This is a great place for a quick lunch. The gyros are pretty tasty and the prices are great for the area.

An Italian sandwich the size of Texas... sign me up!…read more I went into this market when I was exploring Georgetown one day and I naively ordered an Italian sandwich and once they received it I realized it was big enough to feed a family. I found the cutest little park bench and decided to dig in. Needless to say I had left overs but I could have found a way to eat this whole sandwich because it was that good! Every topping was homemade and you could tell. Def a must stop in DC.

I'm a bit torn on this one…read more I stumbled across Stachowski's while looking for a unique local spot for lunch. The sandwiches looked epic and the photos of the place looked adorable for a local joint. We walked over from our hotel in Georgetown and were overwhelmed by the sandwich choices. Caught between the Grinder and the Pastrami, we went with the employee's suggestion for the latter. About 5 minutes later we were handed a wrapped sandwich the size of a football. We found a quiet spot to unwrap and enjoy it and dug in. Frankly, I wouldn't order it again, and I think we would have enjoyed the grinder more. It was just a huge pile of meat on pumpernickel bread with mustard. Flavor was meh. Neither of us was overwhelmed for nearly $25. Props for the cute European goods in the shop, though, and the employees were courteous and friendly. But next time I'll look elsewhere for lunch.

A Milano, some Route 11 chips, and gelato... basically, I had a very Italian afternoon…read more The sandwich, chips, and gelato were all amazing! The Italian Store has so many Italian subs to choose from, but I went with the Milano, their most popular sub. The combination of the sweet and spicy peppers really made this sandwich stand out. There was just the right balance of flavors, and I can definitely see why it's one of their most popular choices. A heads-up when ordering: They typically have several sandwiches pre-made and ready to go, but if you want something made fresh to order, you'll need to order by phone or online. At least at the Lyon Village location, you can't order a made-to-order sandwich directly at the counter. So if you have your heart set on a freshly made sub, plan ahead! Of course, no Italian sub is complete without chips. They carry Route 11, a Virginia-based chip company, and they had several varieties available: lightly salted, dill pickle, Chesapeake Crab, Mama Zuma's Revenge, and salt & pepper. I went with the lightly salted, which was the perfect pairing with my Milano. Unfortunately, the Lyon Village location doesn't have fresh gelato, so I had to settle for the pre-packaged variety. I went with the caramel gelato, and it was delicious! It wasn't overly sweet, which I appreciated, although it was a little on the expensive side. The store was pretty busy when I stopped in, with several people inside and a few others enjoying the outdoor tables. They also sell pizza by the slice, or you can order a whole pizza to take home. I saw several people leaving with whole pizzas, so clearly I need to add that to my next visit. Between the Milano, Route 11 chips, and caramel gelato, this was a fantastic first experience. Definitely coming back -- next time, I'm trying the pizza!

There's a lot of back-and-forth about who offers the best sandwiches./subs in the DMV. My vote is for The Italian Store! Even when you're in a rush, they have ready-made classic sub choices for grab-n-go. This is a great spot to try for lunch one day or even on the weekend. You will not be disappointed. Also, when the workday has been to rough and you don't feel up to cooking, TIS is a great option. Happy eating.

I'd been craving a cheesesteak and figured I'd finally give this place a shot. Why I'd never been…read morebefore is beyond me. The place was packed, almost no open seats anywhere, but I managed to grab a spot at the bar. I went with the full OG Philly and some onion rings. The sandwich was massive. I almost couldn't finish half of it, and it turns out they sell them in half portions, which is the move next time. Everything else coming out of that kitchen looked just as good, and I'm already planning to work my way through the rest of the menu. Part of the fun is the room itself. It's a proper New York deli that's been around since 1975, with caricatures of famous faces painted across the walls and a "Barred Conversation List" chalkboard that's worth a read while you wait. I really enjoy places that look and feel like this. Worth the stop.

EDITED (see below)…read more WAY overpriced. Reuben was good, but meat lacked seasoning. Seriously?! At these prices!!! It was scorching hot when it comes out. Never had to wait for a deli sandwich to cool down before eating. Really disliked having to stare at my sandwich at a deli of all places, waiting for it to cool while I'm starving and the lunch clock is ticking. I got places to go. The thin bread falls apart too easily and combined with the pizza-commercial-like cheese pull after each bite with cheese hanging from my mouth to the sandwich, it was functionally very MESSY and difficult to sandwich to eat. I don't like eating sandwiches with a fork. And dont get me started with $10 small sized milkshake. It was an absolutely average milkshake. With a thin straw easily clogged. These prices are INSANE!!! I knew the prices were high going in, but I thought the quality and portions would match. There is a significant disparity between them, and I should be getting twice the amount of sandwich for these prices. Lastly the whole flow is very weird. The interactive website-menu is a disaster and confusing. It took over 10 minutes online just trying to find the menu before I arrived thinking I'd order at front counter and instead was told to take a seat. This really doesnt call for a waitress, an unnecessary markup (tips) to an already insanely expensive meal. Its like pseudo restaurant but its really just a deli sandwich shop. EDIT to owners reply: For a deli sandwich to be piping hot is unnecessary and its not a good thing. It suggests poorly trained cooks. It was a warning for other customers so they don't burn their tongue like I did on a freaking deli sandwich. Instead of leaning into the free customer feedback, they chose to brag about their flaws. So the problems are admitted features, not flaws, and further supports my evaluation. "Tiny portions relative to price." Does that make it more clear? While owner glosses over the huge portion sizes in photos on website/menu that are false advertising, and photos were only reason I thought the high prices might be justified before coming here. I only saw the actual (tiny) portion size when my food was delivered that I realized menu photos online had deceived me and the prices were insane for that reason. $21+ for a 1/4 lb half deli sandwich!?!? Insane! And centimeter-thick bread slices are also considered tiny portions. Nobody disputed weight of meat. Strawman. And it wasnt obvious the weight of meat on the already mentioned difficult to read website. Nobody's reading the fine print on a menu!! If it wasn't clear for me its likely unclear for others. should not have a cheese pull that requires utensils on a sandwich. Should not need utensils to eat a sandwich. Deli sandwiches shouldn't burn your mouth. And nobody disputed your sandwiches weren't "cooked fresh". Strawman.
