    Calamari...quite a kick!
    Charlie R.

New York Restaurant in Catskill is one of my favorite lo al places. Consistently top notch from service to food to ambiance. We haven't been here in a while, so we decided to go. So glad the quality has remained high. We were greeted and seated promptly. The ambiance is intimate and friendly. I started with the calamari, quite unique in its flavor and sauce, but delicious. For entrée I went with the pork schnitzel, it had quite a spicy kick to it. I like spicy so it was fabulous. Dessert was shared between my wife and I... She's a chocoholic and thought it was fabulous. Reasonably priced, you can't go wrong with New York Restaurant!!

Aaaamazing! Sweet potato Kale perogie was fantastic with sautéed onions, watermelon feta salad was the best we've had in a long time, stuffed peppers were good but the spinach cheese ravioli were the absolute best. We had a reservation but got there a half an hour early and Jen got us seated. Thanks Jen. The service was great, atmosphere wonderful and food was absolutely wonderful. Nothing was less than delicious. Make reservations on Resy!

Here's the thing, I've read all the reviews to try and understand why so many people seemed to like this place. I've gone back and forth about this and wrestled with whether to give this four stars (because my husband thinks I should) and three stars, which I settled on because it was really just a three star experience. Was there anything particularly bad about this place? No. But there also wasn't anything particularly memorable or great about this place. It was really just middle of the road average. Ambience wise, it's a cute place with the tables spaced apart for COVID protocol and social distancing. The service was pleasant and nice, though not overly attentive or absent. I had the onion soup, which I love. This was pretty blah. I felt like I was having Campbell's soup (i.e., straight from the can) with a piece of cheese melted on top, It was blah. The hubbie had the winter salad which would also have been bland and blah had he not asked for slices of blood oranges for his sparkling water and added it in. That was the boost it needed. A happy accident. We also ordered the pierogis. We lived in a very heavily Polish neighborhood in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, where pierogis are a staple. We have friend who used to make these for us from scratch. These those were not. The ones here were a bit overcooked, or rather over microwaved. We also shared the scallops which were good. The herb risotto was delish. I don't normally like risotto but this was the highlight. Would we go back, no. Would we recommend? No. But we also wouldn't not recommend. It was just forgettable.

Lovely place for brunch, good price for the food, some German influence in the menu. I had the sausage on the bun. It was delicious paring with the homemade mustard. French onion soup was hot and flavorful. Couple tables outside on the street spaced out. Service was fast, only concern was seeing all the violations on Yelp. In general was a good dining experience.

    Croque Madame.

Very charming restaurant in quaint Catskill town. Food was good, service was good. I love the outdoor seating - just divine. I ordered the Croque Madame, but to my surprise it came covered in gravy which is not what I recall from living in France. It was just alright - maybe a "brunch" version that Americanized. In hindsight I would have rather order Avocado Toast. My suggestion to the management is to remind people about the gravy and/or put it on the side. I certainly would have enjoyed the meal more.

Nice visit for Brunch on a Saturday. The village was bustling but we were able to get a table for two near the bar so we were pumped. We have had delicious dinners here numerous times but this was our inaugural Brunch visit. We started with a couple of bloody Mary's which were tasty and just the right amount of vodka. I also got an Equilibrium IPA because who doesn't need two cocktails at once? My wife added a cold Irish coffee to her drink order so we were both well hydrated. This is a Polish Restaurant at heart so we had to get the Pierogi appetizer. We chose the truffle pierogis. They are served with sour cream and an onion and bacon chutney. (Not really sure what chutney is but this was delicious). Whatever flavor you get doesn't matter, just make sure not to miss this star. We both went for the eggs Benedict. I got mine with ham and she got Florentine. Go with the ham as it adds a crispness and salt component to the rest of the dish. It was served with a salad with a nice light dressing. There was a polish breakfast on the menu which will be my next meal there. Their kielbasa is a specialty here. We will definitely be back for brunch with some more friends to enjoy with. Parking is available on the street or in a nearby municipal lot. Cool bones to the building and great bar. Owner is amazing and inspires the polish family recipes. Friendly staff and located in the heart of the village of Catskill.

This restaurant has good Polish food. I had not eaten Polish food before so got the Tour of Poland which lets you try a lot of different Polish foods. I definitely recommend ordering this. The salad was also good - had caramelized nuts in it. Pork schnitzel was also very tasty. The portions are very large - I could not finish the whole thing but you can take extra food home. They also had pumpkin beer which was good. The atmosphere is cozy and warm and we were able to get a table just walking in without getting a reservation first. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you are visiting Catskill.

The only place I can get real cauliflower "wings" in the area (as opposed to the gross super breaded ones). Their salmon is also always delicious. The new spring menu has a lot of new delicious veg options.

Came here with a large group the night before my sister's wedding. The servers were absolutely wonderful and attentive. They took care of our group with grace, and were super accommodating to any and all needs. The drinks were awesome; they had plenty of options of cocktails, beers, and mocktails. I had the passionfruit margarita and it was delicious. My sister in law got the Fox Fire and my husband got the same, but added Casamigos. It was so refreshing, and a great summer drink. The food was fantastic and they were so consistent with timing, which we truly appreciated. For appetizers, we got the Crispy Calamari and the Truffle Pierogis. They were so perfect for sharing and tasty. The calamari was cooked perfect and came with a super complimentary dipping sauce. The pierogis were top notch, which makes sense why they're a staple on the menu. Side note, make sure to get the truffle fries with the truffle dipping sauce; they are out of this world! I could have cleaned the plate!! For dinner, we shared a Flank Flatbread, Spring Risotto with Shrimp, and a Kale Caeser Salad. We got the Flank Flatbread on cauliflower crust which was crispy and perfect with the steak. The Kale Salad was fresh and flavorful, with a great caeser dressing. The Spring Risotto was my favorite. It was cooked to perfection and the mix of veggies were seamless in the mix. Shrimp was an awesome addition to it, as well. I only took one star off because it was super humid inside the restaurant; the windows were initially open which would have been great if it wasn't so hot out. Once they closed them, it was much better. Nevertheless, I definitely recommend checking New York Restaurant out!!

By day, you know it as the Mercantile, the small coffee shop/bakery attached to Wm. Farmer and Sons. Though small in size and in what it offers, Willy's is a formidable venue. The cocktail program was created by the guy who created that of Wm. Farmer and Sons, which is probably the best of its kind in Hudson. As you'd guess, all drinks are rum-based (feel free to order from the adjacent bar if you're not feeling rum but in my opinion, only pop in here if you're looking for some funky rum cocktails). I'm not typically into rum, but I can be swayed if a drink is good enough. Such was the case here, and it didn't surprise me. Come here for a pre-dinner cocktail or a nightcap and learn a bit about a spirit you might've not thought much about prior to visiting. Welcome to the scene! Came here with my bf on a Friday night. We were getting dinner at Wm. Farmer and Sons but arrived a bit early for our reservation. Our gracious host recommend that we hang by the bar, OR, try out Willy's, just through the entryway. We apparently visited on its opening night, and I hope it enjoys a good life here. The hostess informed us that the cocktail menu there was different than that at Wm. Farmer and Sons--all rum-based--but if we weren't feeling rum, the bartender could still whip anything up from the restaurant's main menu. As I mentioned, the space itself is teeny tiny. Standing room only--more of a place to stop in as opposed to posting up and staying awhile. Just like its parent restaurant, the vibe in here is cozy and welcoming. Let's get to the important stuff: drinks. Everything at Willy's is rum-based. Even if you're not a rum lover, don't just assume you'll prefer the cocktail menu at Wm. Farmer and Sons better. I usually go for whiskey or gin, but I was thrilled with what I tried here. That said, if you come here and for some odd reason decide that you want to stay in this space but order from the other bar, you can indeed do that. I just don't suggest it, because what's the point? Between me and my bf, we tried the Mai Tai (Jamaican Rum, Bajan Rum, Rhum Agricole, Fresh lime juice, Curacao, Orgeat, Overproof Rum float) and the Fish House Punch (Jamaican Rum, Cognac, Peach Liquer, fresh lemon juice, soda water). Both fun tropical drinks, nice for the beginning of spring. Expertly crafted and impeccably balanced. I suppose I preferred the Fish House Punch slightly, but they were both fantastic. I thought the peach/cognac pairing was quite nice, rich but still refreshing. They also offer a Daiquiri and an Old Fashioned here, with your rum of choice. I'd probably recommend exploring that route if you want to explore different rums and understand a bit more about what each type brings to the table. I know lots about gin and whiskey and don't care to know too much more about rum (plus I don't like rum-based, spirit-forward drinks so the old fashioned would be a no-go) so it wasn't for me. That said, the bartender here is as knowledgable as they come and I somewhat regret not asking him about his selection to learn a bit more. They've got some fun stuff here that's worth looking into. Cheers!

I also have to say -- I genuinely do not understand some of the comments saying the waitstaff were rude or uninviting. Every female waitress we encountered was beyond gorgeous, cheerful, smiling constantly, and so kind to both me and my older great aunt. We got so many sweet compliments throughout the day and everyone made us feel very welcome. Michelle behind the bar was especially lovely and pours a STRONG drink, which we appreciated Honestly, I'm surprised they weren't busier for Memorial Day weekend, although maybe the bigger crowd came earlier in the day. Food-wise, the appetizers and seafood specials were very satisfying and obviously fresh. We ordered the crab cakes, soft shell crab special, their clam special (half clam casino / half clam oreganata), and a Bloody Mary topped with what had to be 12 shrimp. The crab dishes especially were fantastic -- those crab cakes were PACKED with crab and tasted incredibly fresh. I do want to leave a couple honest criticisms though. I was not impressed with the mussels in white wine sauce, despite multiple waitresses recommending them. This is a dish I order frequently in NYC and Long Island, so maybe my standards are high, but the sauce was unusually sweet -- my great aunt noticed it immediately too. It almost tasted like a sweet white wine was used, which just doesn't work for this kind of dish. The wine either tasted low quality or maybe wasn't cooked off enough. One other thing that disappointed me: the drawn butter is definitely not real butter. It tasted like a vegetable oil-based substitute. For a seafood restaurant serving fresh crab and lobster, I really think real butter should be standard. That said, I would absolutely come back here for the vibes alone. Beautiful waterfront setting, friendly staff, strong drinks, and fresh seafood made for such a relaxing holiday afternoon.

We were sat at a large table on the huge patio, and it was good, even though the live music ended a bit early. Our server was lovely, her smile never faltering even when my mother insisted we sing for a birthday boy at the table. Personally, I want to eat seafood anytime I'm near the water, and this was no exception. We shared oysters (solid, but very pricey), baked clams (quite small, but tasty enough), sesame crusted ahi tuna (solid), a beet salad special (well balanced and one of the best things we had), and fish and chips for my kids (solid). In the future, I'll probably stick with starters because those were a better bet than the mains. We shared the Cod Mediterranean and the Honey Soy Glazed Salmon. Both dishes were undersized, underseasoned, and overcooked. That's a bad combination. If I have anything to say about it, and I usually don't, we'll be back for drinks and apps but forego the mains next time.
