Change just for change never seems good. We hope the recent dropping of rice pilaf is temporary. We go there at least once a week and as much as 3 times and always get a side of that rice. Recently is was dropped in favor of bland white rice. Because the possibility of a potato of any style besides fries isn't an option, we always loved the pilaf. Hope this changes soon. The ambiance is amazing, the food is hands down amazing. The employees genuinely care about what they serve you, and want to be sure you enjoy every last bit. My party of five had a variety of meals. Pierogis, kielbasa, arugula salad, wings, stuffed cabbage. Wine by the bottle. Everything was incredible. The dessert was so good, I built a barricade so my friends couldn't eat mine. I'm a fan of this place! I've been three times and each time has been great. A solid selection of Polish food with some basics as well. I got the burger with cheddar cheese and bacon each time. It's good, they cook my bacon extra crispy, and the bun it is served on is fantastic. On the side were garlic parm fries and WOW. Do yourself a favor and order them with your meal!! I also got the cookie sundae for dessert. I don't know what topping they put on the cookie but it is good!! It's a giant chocolate chip cookie, warmed up and then topped with the delicious sauce, really good vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and a cherry. So, so good. Service is great. Mike the bartender is super friendly and attentive. I most recently sat at the bar and service was a little slow (it was a Saturday evening, the kitchen was a little slow) but Mike kept checking on the food and giving updates. The spinach Perot is were the star of the show, although the kiddo was very happy with the kids menu which husband claimed was "above average" chicken tenders. Been coming here since the restaurant opened. We were there with a guest of 5 sitting outside. Two burgers came out raw, and it took a long time for the burgers to come out, and everyone was done with their meal. My burger which went back first was now well done but I just wanted to eat. Sweet potato fries were not cooked and soggy. Overall it was very disappointing. The waitress apologized but there was nothing offered to us. Staff was super friendly and accommodating, food was ready within 30 minutes (we had a large order too) and everything was delicious. Their pierogis were delicious, their kielbasa was amazing. Been there five times in three weeks. Consistent food which is absolutely delicious. More importantly, they could not be nicer. Comfy chairs, nice decor, noise level is fine even when packed. Twice they had live music at dinner. Brunch was superb both on selection and prep. Great bar selections. Menu clearly labeled as to VG and GF and really good selections for both. The food and service were excellent. We arrived a bit early for our reservation and got seated promptly. We were disappointed to have been asked to leave after an hour and 45 minutes when we had not even finished our bottle of wine. We understand that in this is a difficult economy to run a restaurant and every seat counts, so I understand, however it was not stated on the reservation system nor were we told up front. If you only have a specific time for people, it's fair to advise up front. We would have gone to the bar if we were on a time limit. read more

Two stars for the decor and the appetizers (Buffalo cauliflower was tasty but needed a better sear and crisp). But the entrees...chef needs to find some inspiration and a spice cabinet. Hit that salmon with a Cajun rub. A caper lemon cream. Grain mustard. Anything. The New York Restaurant is a Major Upgrade for Catskill. Went with a group of 8 for dinner on a Tuesday night, we did make a reservation (or, a heads up we were coming?) The seating is varied and cozy, atmosphere is just the right kind of dark, and good spacing between tables. First, drinks. I am thrilled to report that I could TASTE the Jameson in my Jameson& ginger ale, and that it wasn't a 8 oz glass full of ice! Nice sized drink, but I have no idea the price since it was bought for me... Pork belly appetizer was good. I, personally, am over the pork belly craze - but it had a nice Asian style barbecue sauce. My 7 companions got burgers. I, naturally, got the Tour of Poland: Kielbasa, pierogi, bigos, golabki. The cabbage roll was friggin awesome - I can't describe WHY, but I've said before in reviews, I love cabbage. The filling was so tender and flavorful, the cabbage was still crisp, the "gravy" (what IS that? I don't care. I love it) and the mashed potatoes....LOVE. The stew (kielbasa, cabbage, tomato, carrots...there was probably more in there) was so pleasant. Not spicy, almost sweet, but not in a sugary way. Oddly enough, the pierogi were my least favorite part - house made and fried, they had a "fried dough" feel and taste to me, and the filling wasn't the smoooooooth potato I was anticipating. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty - the onion compote on top was divine - but the rest of the plate was better, for me. The size of the plate and quality of the food, for $18ish? Solid. My friends order a couple B52 shots. Our waitress came back and said nobody knew what that was, so we said - layered Baileys, Grand Marnier, and Kahlua. They brought it, not layered, but my friends did the shot and said it tasted fine - bill came and the shot was $10 each?! Yowza, that was unexpected. I will say the service was slow, despite it being a Tuesday. That being said, they were packed - are they always this packed? Or was it because it was between Christmas and New Years? Who cares?! I went here once for dinner and thought I would wait until my next visit to write it up since I was only there once but Yelp gave me a nudge and I will write this even though I fully intend that there *will* be a next time. Those who read my reviews may sense that what floats my boat are restaurants that are serious about the food -- from high brow to super-casual. And I'm here to say NY Restaurant is in the YES category. They care about the food here. And it's very delicious. And service is sincere, if humanly foible. I'm not a big Polish afficienado, but when in Krakow and all . . . I ordered the Poland sampler and it was very good. I'm not even much of a meat eater and MAN was I digging that bratwurst! It was smoky and full-flavored, perfectly accompanied by some whole grain brown mustard. The pierogis were very delicious (though I would have chosen spinach over potato if I were given a choice -- that option is posted by the bar -- due to the surfeit of taters on my plate! A cabbage-wrapped rice concoction was sitting atop . . . potatoes! Smashed and uber-delicious! The soup was funky and not to my taste, but I don't begrudge the restaurant for that. It was sour which is not always a taste I dig. Dessert wasn't enticing so instead I opted for a mocktail of mint yuku sparkling lemonade. Delicious!! These people have serious food cred, and run a pleasant, buzzing establishment for end of the office bar drinking and eating. Oh, and it's not a SOHO feel. More like old dingy financial sector. Or a small-town cafe trying to look urbane, so they sport dark walls and dim lights. And then there's a big tacky board by the bar listing the Polish standard items. This is a very difficult review to post. We have been going to the NY RESTAURANT since it's opening. From the start we have loved Natasha and her whole staff. Recently we found out that Adrianna was terminated. She was the first person to welcome us to this restaurant. Since then she has always had the New York Restaurant as a place close to her heart, and always looking out for it's best interest's. This type of dedication is hard to find !!! We love this restaurant, and we love Natasha, but since they lost JJ and now Adrianna, it has lost it's edge. read more

This has to be one of the best restaurants I have ever been to in the Catskills. The food is absolutely delicious. There is something for everyone, whether you're a vegetarian or a carnivore or just love food. The servers are very welcoming and very polite. The only thing I see that could be better is possibly having more servers on hand. As it got busier last night, the service declined which is to be expected as a place gets busier but another server in hand could have made all the difference. The best/only place to go on a Monday and Tuesday in the area. Always a warm vibe and accommodating to my friends and I. They have a good variety of different options on the menu, not always heavy as you would expect. Vegan/vegetarian folks will be pleasantly accomodated. Bartenders are fast but sometimes the drinks aren't strong enough. Make a reservation for earlier. They get mobbed during later dinner hours. There is usually a festive Christmas decor during December and makes the holidays reliably pleasant. The booths are tight, if you can, get a table. read more
