There's a good selection and the people are very helpful. The prices are very reasonable. They would get higher marks if they vetted the furniture better. We bought some upholstered chairs for my son's dorm room. We sat in them and did a cursory inspection for damage and stain and loaded them into the truck. It wasn't until we got them into the dorm room to discover how filthy they were under the cushions. Cat hair, dirty just yuk. We should have inspected them a bit better, but we didn't think to look under the cushions. I'm surprised they accepted such dirty items. I guess that's what you get when you buy from a cheap store. I probably won't go back to that store if we need any additional items. I ended up spending a lot on cleaning supplies to tidy them up. It would equal more expensive, cleaner items. read more

I headed over here since my Facebook Marketplace items weren't selling. I brought a couple dining room chairs, decorative pillows, trendy artwork, and a crystal candlestick. They offered to take everything for $21 and change. I took the crystal home and they gave me $18... If you are looking to sell, they will only take "like new" items in great condition. Which is silly because after walking around the store, there was tons of garbage and dusty crap. Almost everything looked old, dusty, and not very well organized. I probably won't be back. A receipt to Goodwill is probably better than $18 and an hour of my time. Extra star because the employees were nice! read more

This store is always filled with good finds, especially if you're able to find a "color special" item. They rotate colors and whichever color is on special is a percentage off. For example, "White tags are 25% off today." I've always seen 25% off, but I don't know for sure if they change the percentage. The selling process is typical frustrating. Having worked in a resale bookstore I understand the used buying process and always assume I'll receive little to no money for my items. Today, I sold 7 items: wall decor film slate, two paintings (unknown artist), two Chinese hanging lanterns (new with tag), one Harley Davidson metal plate wall decor, one large table cloth (new with tag). I received $5.50. There is a Good Will 5 minutes away on Aurora Ave and Foothill Drive. The items New Uses does not purchase I drop off for donation right around the corner, which is convenient. Overall, it's a good resale shop where hidden treasures can be found. It is definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. My recommendation for management is to advertise tags in advance. Today, I saw many green tagged items I liked. If I knew when green tags would be on sale/special, I would come back the day of the green tag discount. read more

Who is New Uses good for? EVERYONE! If you're stocking a new place (think: students, first apartment, random bohemian) and don't mind a mishmash, furnish your pad in one fell swoop! If you're looking for a particular item, you'll probably find it with ease: there is a LOT of stock and it's well organized. (Collectors, take note.) If you have stuff to sell, you'll get a reasonable price (my mom and I had a variety of household goods and we weren't sure they'd want all of them or what'd we'd get -- we figured we'd donate to SVdP what they didn't take), but the nice guys at the front explained the routine and took our odd amalgam of items, so yay! I was surprised how good the prices were on everything (only slightly higher than a Goodwill) and at the range of items (they even had DVDs, etc.) The displays opened up your imagination -- not just holidays etc., but the "man cave," etc. This will definitely be my first stop for housewares in the future. read more

This place in Aurora is hit or miss for buying. Staff is always friendly. You have to search through a lot of things, and they seem to have a lot of old stock, it could use a cleaning out. On the plus side, I have been looking for small accent items to buy for staging a house for sale and found several pieces here. I bought a small piece of Art, Candle Holder and a tall slim vase. I have also bought a Vintage Glass and Metal Drink shaker (looks like 40's or 50's deign) and a metal aluminum pitcher with Art Deco design. They have some furniture, but you need to be lucky to find good pieces. Green stickers on price tags indicate that the item is half price. I would give it a higher rating if their prices were a little lower, and they got rid of old stock This is a place you need to go to frequently, there today, gone tomorrow. Decent place. The concept is good. People sell stuff they no longer want or use. Make a couple bucks, and hopefully someone else can make use out of it. The problem is, this is "For Profit", meaning the store needs to pay as little as they can for your items, and turn around and sell it for as much as they can.....thus, making a profit. As I walked through, glancing at what they had, I realized that the prices on these used items are as much / if not more than something new. I don't think anyone wants to buy used stuff, but people do because they can't afford new stuff. I walked out without buying anything. If they want more business, they should be competitive on price....as it is used. Now, on the other hand, you have thrift stores which are mostly Non-Profit. People donate used items. Non-Profit places still charge you money, but the prices are usually cheaper than resale shops. Many people who can't afford new can go to the thrift shops and buy at a decent price. Seems to make more sense. read more

Managed to grab a vintage KitchenAid mixer from the 60s for $40, my friend grabbed some fall decor, and we saw a really cool chair that we would've bought had we had the space. There are many good things to discover in this store. I went to my friend's house and saw a lot of interesting decors in their house and I cannot stop myself but compliment it and my friend shares that she bought those from this store. I was really interested that I did not hesitate to pay this place a visit. There are various choices and every corner has an interesting and unique item. I am not really good with designs and all but I am really interested with decors that I can put at home just to make it better and definitely not boring. The people inside the store are very friendly. As much as I wanted to buy a lot, I just bought for I think two to three items and the prices are very cheap plus the items is in in a good quality and it looks really nice. Actually, I would rate the store 4.5 stars only because I think some items in the store are overpriced for the quality IMO. On the other hand, you can find some good pieces for a reasonable price. That's the way it goes I suppose. The first time I visited, it was 10 minutes before closing and I was looking for a dresser for my daughters' room. I didn't find a dresser that met my needs, but I am still shooting myself in the foot for not buying a piece of art that was gone by the time I decided I couldn't live without it. I still look for that piece whenever I am in the store, hoping that it was just "lost" so that I can find it. I have had good experience selling my things to them-and I sell to them a lot. There have been a few things that they have "passed" on which in some instances surprised me since I would still buy used items with certain imperfections; however, it's their business not mine-makes sense that they are selective and buy what will have the best chance at selling/turning over quickly. That being said, it still blows my mind that they didn't pass on several gaudy lacquer 80s and 90s furniture pieces. As I have told both Ryan and Kyle-managers at the store-I am really impressed with their well oiled machine of an operation that they have going on there. On top of it, they have some of the best attitudes and customer service that I have come across in awhile. It is my pleasure to buy and sell with them. I like the way they do business. read more

I would stay clear of this place in the future. The official line is they sell for 1/3 retail, and they give you 1/3 of that. Well, they sell for much more than 1/3 of retail and give you pennies. You also end up running much over to Goodwill after they have cherry picked it. I feel their practices as such are dishonest. Ok...technically, I would do 3.5 stars. (I know, I know... but sometimes it really is the best fit!!) If I'm not mistaken the owner also has Clothes Mentor, Once Upon A Child and Platos Closet branches, so if you understand the concept of those stores, you will understand New Uses. New Uses focuses on home goods and you can either bring things in to sell (which I have not yet tried) or shop. I have been here on two different occasions. Most recently there was a sale this weekend, and with the new location of Clothes Mentor right next door, the parking lot was a mess. However, the employees were out and about to try to direct traffic. The store was also much more crowded but it was interesting for me to hear other people's thoughts on the place. There is a LOT of merchandise. They do have some good markdowns. For comparable pieces however, their prices are higher than some other thrift stores or Goodwills in the area. I was not in the market for large furniture pieces but I would look here occasionally if I was on the hunt for something. On the whole, it is a welcome addition to the empty storefronts that have been surrounding the mall. Pop in and see, they may have just what you are looking for. read more

Downside: I was unaware of exactly what kind of items New Uses will buy the first time I came in. I brought 2 old desks, a microwave, and a huge box of home goods (kitchen items, decor, etc.). Out of all of that they only bought a canvas picture & an ice bucket...all for a whopping $4.20! Needless to say it was a waste of my time to lug everything over there. This is a fantastic spot to furnish your first home, give refinishing or Pinterest ideas a try, or to continually visit in search of treasures. On our first trip, we easily saved ourselves $150 by purchasing two kitchen stools used ($16 each!). Unlike most thrift shops: the furniture is in abundance, and they also partner with Ashley Furniture (therefore they have some lightly used and some still boxed items). For thrift stores, this is the best in the area! I've never gone in and not made a purchase. There's always always always a "good find" of some sort! With the exception of clothing, they literally have everything you can think of.... from furniture, to decor, to nick nacky things, cd's, candles... etc And I love that they buy items, too! When this store first opened it was much more organized. Some of the isles are too cluttered with the same junk that's been there since the store opened. The staff never seems to be on the floor making things look any better either, they usually just stay behind the counter. Furniture is pretty pricey for a second hand store. My wife and I go into this shop about once a month and can't believe how high they price their furniture. All that said, you can pick up some cool christmas knick knacks and such for a decent price if you dig through the clutter. read more

New Uses is on my monthly visit to the thrift stores in the Naperville/Aurora area (New Uses, ReStore-Habitat for Humanity, Savers, Goodwill and Crate & Barrel). Their items are slightly higher in quality, and their prices are slightly higher as well. They aim for 30% of new prices, and buy at essentially liquidation prices 10% of new. What they take a "pass" on, I just drop off at Goodwill for the tax write-off. Love Goodwill! Resale shops are disorganized by nature, but this is better than most. Lots of furniture for good prices. Best collection of frames, mirrors, baskets and lamps. Also, have collectibles (not my thing) and nice seasonal items. Plus, tons of dishes. Beware the parking lot (almost been hit twice)! I'd hit one of the restrooms in the fast food places way before I would go to the Shell Station on 59. Wonder if Great Escapes has a public restroom? Worth checking out. Cindy M. read more

I went there today, first time, to sell some items. We had 2 tv carts, a wooden coat rack, and Westinghouse roaster. Young man was finishing prior transaction while I looked at store. Without looking up from register during prior transaction asked, "what do you need bud?" I told him we had items and he said, " bring in whatever you have and put it on the rack". I told him it was furniture items that wouldn't fit on any rack. I asked if someone could look at the items before I unload them, which would not have been very easy for me, and he said no, he was the only employee there at the time. I stood for a second, figuring some alternative would be offered, like when it would be possible for someone else to look at what we brought. I figured there were no other possibilities when he went back to completing the other order and never looked up. We took everything to Goodwill where someone actually offered to help empty the car. I agree with the review Erin K. gave for the most part...although after today I might have lowered my rating to 2.5 This was a second trip to the store for me. I hate using public restrooms and would never make that choice unless it was absolutely necessary. I was very disappointed when I asked an employee about a restroom, and the answer I received was a very loud, flippant 'IT'S ONLY FOR EMPLOYEES" Now this was a relatively young man, (tall w/dark hair)... I guess I hoped there was the leeway most business's have, so I also checked with a young woman. She suggested the Shell station on rt 59. By this time I was embarrassed and left the store to return home. I realize that by law they may not be obliged to provide facilities but between the ridiculous parking lot mess on a Sat. afternoon, and no bathroom. Seems they are somewhat defeating what I would think they would want....people to park and enter, as well as happily remain to shop. Until today I fully expected to stop in, and continue to tell friends about the store. Likelihood of that would be reduced at this point. read more

What an amazing difference! You can certainly see that they are taking more time with displaying their merchandise. It is not a cluttered as when they first opened and they have certainly lowered their prices! Great job at responding to customer feedback. The presentation is so much cleaner, neater and visually appealing. Found a wonderful wing back chair for only $80 and they loaded it my vehicle for me! Great trash Great treasures. The aisles are packed with a lot of junk, but also lots of great hidden gems. I love this store when i have no money and i want to buy a couple fun things for cheap..like picture frames, or glass vases. The store itself is messy, but fun to look. This is just a place to go to get rid of a lot of stuff you have crowding your garage or your home that you don't want to donate to The Salvation Army. You will not walk away with a lot of money, and they are picky about what they accept. It's a great place to find a used microwave, vacuum, heater, mirrors, art work, etc. The furniture they sell is way overpriced when compared to The Salvation Army. Browse carefully for odds and ends. I have gone there a lot and they have been great at helping me get rid of bulky space hogging things that I don't need any more, but they don't offer much, beware. read more

Store has lots of glassware (nice) - but you can find nicer at other stores, and a sickening number of picture frames. Love the store for buying BUT everytime I take items in to sell, I'm Told things are too old of a style. So I haul it all back home. While they go thru my items, I browse the store and my items seriously are no older than what I see in the store for sale!! It's frustrating. I won't be going back...not even to shop. News uses is totally awesome! I love the concept! I shop here all the time & every time the store was very clean- which is very rare in thrifting. Not even a funky odor in the place! The staff is always very nice and walking around making sure everyone is satisfied with their shopping. If you have any question they always have an answer it seems! They'll gladly show you where something is or help you pick something out. Some things are a little over priced but all stores are like that :) read more
