You cannot go wrong with their beer. Well described on the menu and you will find one that you like if you are a beer drinker, whether it is a Pils, IPA, Double IPA, etc. sandwiches are good. They have a great pork schnitzel sandwich and great Oklahoma Onion Smash Burger. I am on the fence about their fries, they are okay. Service is fantastic. We stopped in for a beer and the place was packed. The parking lot is on the opposite side of the building but they had signs directing you where to go. The outdoor patio looked great but we opted for the last two seats at the bar. The bartender was fantastic and took great care of us. Their food menu sounded delicious but we weren't hungry so we didn't try anything. While it's a brewery, it's cool to see them offer a variety of cocktails, wine, and cider that they don't make. They had TVs playing the baseball games as well. The dining room was pretty tight in space and every table was taken. It truly felt like a traditional German brewery. read more

Simply fantastic little brewpub! The pirogies were excellent! Buttery, slightly seared, and filled with potato and cheese greatness. The wings were exceptional as well. Crispy and cooked perfectly. Home made ranch was delicious and wonderfully crafted. Now, if the food was excellent, I can't think of higher praise for the beer! My girlfriend had the simple cheeseburger and said it was excellent. I had the pork schnitzel sandwich and it was amazing. You need several buns to eat it as a sandwich so I cut it into quarters, put two of the quarters on the tiny little bun they give you and topped it with the Ayoola and vinegar pickles it comes with then added some hot sauce and it was delicious. Went there with my girlfriend for dinner on Monday evening. It was our first time in the place. The food was excellent and the service was great. Stopped in while biking from Chicago to the Indiana Dunes. Great location just off the bike path. Friendly service. I had the pierogis, which were good. Fresh sour cream and chives dip was quite good (needed more chives though). First beer was their Russian Imperial Stout, which was quite good. My biking buddy and I raved about this one. Toad IPA was nothing special at all. Would certainly stop in again next time I'm biking in the area. read more

The service was decent and the ambiance was nice. What was not nice is how my husband bragged and bragged about the chicken tenders. I went with him and was floored. He swore that his didn't look like mine did, his were huge!! It's sad because the appetizer was 18.00 and I got 4 minuscule pieces of chicken which had more breading than chicken. He was embarrassed. I was angry. I should have spoke up and pointed out the issue with the staff but I didn't. It was slow and it's a small business. I like to be supportive but these were terrible and the price was shameful. They were nothing special. I could have gotten better tenders from Strack and VanTill. That's embarrassing for this place, or should be. I've held off writing my review, I went there in summer and every time I have chicken tenders I have to exclaim that they are at least better than yours and at a more sensible price. I let my husband know that I wouldn't go here again. Paying a lot for a measly portion of bad quality was just too much for me. read more

When I go to a place where "Brewery" or "Brewpub" is in its title, I go for the beer. Everything else is secondary. This means the beer is rated higher than the food. I stopped by here today after walking a good section of the nearby Oak Savannah Trail. I had been here last July during my summer sojourn in NWI and liked the Lager and Pils, and came back today for a half Mass ("Tankard" on the menu) of their award-winning Helles Lager (5.1%ABV/15 IBU). This beer is as close to a Helles as I've tasted in the Region and deserves its two awards in 2017 and 2019 at the US Open Beer Festival for Bavarian-style Lager. It's a crispy light beer to have after walking seven miles. I sat outside on the dog-friendly patio with my dog Zeke. I noticed that one of the bench tables has been removed to comply with the six-foot social distancing during this pandemic, so there is more room between tables. The server wore a face mask. I brought my dog's waterbowl, and the server gave me a second pitcher of water for him without me asking. Zeke was just happy to rest on the cold tile in the shade. I stayed long enough to have two beers and a chicken sandwich served on a pretzel roll. That alone was $11 and worthy of four stars. It was tasty, but overpriced for the small burger and fries portion. There are a few German items on the menu, but I found it a bit expensive. The Brewery is small and reminds me of a German Gasthaus, with its light wooden interior and double deck. One plus for this place, besides its authentic German-style beers: their opening hours have been extended, now opening at noon and staying open till 10pm. I was here at 1:30pm and business was doing well. There is also free wifi for customers. Password is on the menu. read more

Disappointed. Came in with a group of seven on Saturday evening, none of us had ever been to New Oberpfalz before. We were stoked to try it out after reading Yelp reviews. Sat in the lower part of the restaurant. The picnic table-type seating is not the best. Not very comfortable and the tables are strangely narrow, sort of makes it hard for a large group with a lot of food and beer glasses on the table. We ordered beers and food. Our server...ugh. She was just not into it. Her attitude was totally indifferent. She barely made eye-contact. It really felt as though she could have cared less if we ate and drank at New Oberpfalz or not. I have been in many small brewpubs and this was probably the least friendly service I have ever seen. And they were NOT busy. There were a couple of guys sitting by us who seemed to be regulars and a small party in the upper part of the pub. Otherwise, it's not like our server was all that busy. I guess I am trying to justify why she treated us so indifferently. Really, cannot figure it out. The food was tasty. We all liked our food. I had the sliders and spicy corn. All of us had food and multiple beers. I wasn't really fond of the beers. I had a small flight and ended up getting a glass of the Toad Storm. I liked the Toad Storm IPA and my partner liked the Lemon Sesh. None of the other beers were memorable for me. I support small businesses and especially Indiana breweries. Stopped here as we need a place to grab a bite to eat on our night staying outside of Chicago. Came here for lunch as our initial plan fell through. Pretty small place, but the staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was average, not great but not bad. We shared a pretzel, and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese stood out a bit more than the pretzel for me, pretty standard. The beer stood out to me as pretty impressive. We split a couple flights to allow us to try most of their offering and were not disappointed. The Toad Storm IPA and Robust Porter were my favorites. The German Pils also stood out to me a bit for a very solid, traditional beer. Very glad that we stumbled across this place. Food was good enough and the beer was worth the stop. This was our last brewery stop of the day, and by far our favorite. The space itself was small, which required us to have about a 20+ minute wait. We were really hoping for outdoor seating, but there were only 3 tables and no one seemed close to done. We settled down inside, and ordered a flight. Every beer we tried was delicious. First time here. First impression was great! Server was super friendly and attentive. Our food took quite some time to come out, but it was fine because it was a beautiful evening. My husband ordered his burger medium well-he cut it in half and the inside was raw. The server didn't come back to us for about 20 minutes. He told her what was wrong and she said that's how he ordered it-then she checked the ticket and corrected herself. She asked if he wanted another one-we didn't want to wait any longer.
