A surprising find along our traveling back to Milwaukee. That's what I adore about breweries and brewpubs more than almost anything else (the beer). You never know where they may pop up. Especially those intimate/cozy, tucked away spots. In located in an unexpected smaller town. The actual inside of the brewery was intimate with some seating at the bar and a few tables behind the bar. Excellent service with an attentive and knowledgeable bartender. Such a great view of their brewery system on display from this seating. Outside, there was a nice amount of space to sit, hangout, bring is pups(s), and have that community feel. Amber lager, big wow! The most incredible lager I've ever had. Tangy, vibrant, complex in all the right ways, subtle friendly bitter notes and sweetness that gets me needing more. What a bummer I grabbed the last big pint bottle, can't wait to see when they are making more. Bangin' Crown Point, Indiana brewery! This purveyor of all beers (from low alcohol, to dark) is BOTH a brewery and a pizza parlor. It's too bad, this place had 1 bar tender (who was kinda drunk) to pour beers - and waitstaff multiple tables. Each time I stood up, I was knocking into chairs, staff, doors, people and waiters with trays: it is a really cramped bar! Get rid of a table in the bar area. Hire one more bar tender, to keep the evening flowing. The beer I ordered, tasted very fresh and had that crisp-sip bouquet. The nose was grainy. It was cold and that meant storage was good. There were absolutely no beer impurities: that's good, too. Through windows (see pics) you can spot where the brewers makes beer. It was light on foam - which I liked. American grown mid-West ingredients harvested and transformed to liquid brews.. Parking was easy. Prices hit the mark. I just wished, like I said, there had been an extra personality behind the bar, so I didn't have to wait around, while bartender makes change. I go to Crown Brewing every time I'm in the area visiting my family. The place opened in 2008 and it's been 12 years. My stepmom lives 1.3 miles away and I've walked from there many times just to have a good beer late at night. I'm a big fan of their flagship "The Dude" Java Porter. It's an award-winning porter that deserves the accolades. One can taste the coffee but the coffee isn't overbearing. Their Winter Ale at Christmas time is also wicked good. I've tried many of the seasonals, but I always have my Dude Porter. Before Covid, I'll sit at the bar when there's an opening, or at one of their tables toward facing their brewing room. The taproom is small and intimate and can get crowded on weekends. I've also sat outside with my dog but dogs are no longer allowed outside after 4pm and I don't know why. I'm imagining some psycho chihuahua went, well, psycho and ruined it for all other well-behaved dogs. Covid has now forced every other table to be shut down, both inside and on the patio. The brewery has specials Mondays-Thursdays and it varies every day. Mondays are Stein Nights and on Thursdays pints are 1/2 price. This place also has some wines. Free wifi for guests. Wow. Saturday 2 PM. Day before Easter. First time visitor to Crown (Point) Brewing. Five stars!?!? Really? Well, yes, this could be the perfect restaurant for casual dining. Or the perfect brewery and bar. Take your choice. The place is divided into several rooms all of different, let us say, motif. Each area has its own unique appeal. We took the spartan area next to the brew tanks. Nothing fancy, but high tables. Actually the first ever at the perfect height and matched with high solid wood chairs, quite hefty, that allow those of us with bad backs to sit comfortably without adding any pain. The waitress/server/bartender was very pleasant and efficient at her job. The beer, brewed about ten feet from us was great. The ipa was perfect, and the darker Dude beer was excellent if you like very dark beers. Three of us at the table who had beer all agreed. That's very unusual. Even more unusual was the four of us had pizza and agreed it was terrific. We had the Detroit style, which I believe we used to call Sicilian. There was plenty of cheese with some of the best 'sauce on top' that we've ever had. Toppings were crisp and fresh. This Detroit pizza is a must. Return visits to Crown is a must for all four of us. Just can't say enough good about our first visit to the place. How can it be improved? Only one idea- USB cell phone charging outlets at the tables. Update: on our second visit, staff was great. Beer seemed even better.... maybe because we were worn out? We realized we were exhausted when we found we ordered the wrong pizza! We ordered a regular style instead of the Detroit style, and it just wasn't as good. It's funny, second restaurant we've been to lately where their regular pizza wasn't up to their special pizza even though they both use the same ingredients. What a disappointing experience. I really wanted to like this place. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the cool evening air. I ordered a glass of "Special Force's " it was quite enjoyable. That unfortunately is where the good ends. The staff although friendly was very forgetful. We would place an order for an item, it would take a second engagement with our server to ask for a status of the order. The length of time to seemed excessive. We ordered the Detroit style pizza and an order of wings. Super disappointing!!! The wings were so small you would have to look around for pigeons. The moment we tried Crown Brewing's "The Dude White Russian Java Stout" at Winterfest in Indy earlier this year, we knew we had to make the pilgrimage up to visit them propa in Crown Point. Chicago bound from Indy, we plotted our arrival to Crown Brewing around mid-day, and to be honest, we were surprised at the modest tap room in a semi-shared space with a cool, separate little restaurant. Who knew that such amazing beer could come from such a small place? There was a small bar with the taps (3-4 seats around it) and 6ish 4-top tables to the whole joint -- and the dark yet intimate vibe was stellar. Windows in the 'side room' looked directly in to the brewing area but we opted to sit at a table near the 'main bar' to allow us to interact with our server and even some locals sitting at the bar for the afternoon. The wonderful gal working the bar was both knowledgeable and SO cool...totally took the time to 'talk beer' with us and was so friendly. We got 2 flights to sample almost everything they were offering on tap that day -- aside from their IPAs as we are generally not IPA fans. It is rare that we can say we genuinely enjoyed EVERY single beer in our flights during our visit. Seasonals were stand-outs, but the standard offerings were great as well. We were surprised to see that bombers were so reasonably priced -- so much so that we took 12 home. I mean, when are we gonna get back up here anyway? Rounding out our experience was a growler fill of Winter Warlock Spiced English Brown via my Indiana Tasting Society membership coupon. Awesome. So yes. We will make sure we plan to detour to Crown Brewing EVERY time we head up to Chicago...which may be a little more frequently now that we have experienced the goodness of Crown Brewing. HOT TRASH!!! Not worth the drive, wait or cost. I tried 4 beers and not one was worth ordering a full glass. Pretzel app was saltless, who serves a saltless pretzel and served with cheese wiz. WTF you lazy pos. Put some effort and pride into what you serve. Mushroom app came out as a lump of batter completely unacceptable. Fish and chips are Gordons frozen triangles...yuck! Bartender was friendly and knew a fair amount about their beers. Their flights are generous and you decide what you want. The beer was decent. I like Crown Brewing. I visit every time I am in the area. The beer is good, I usually get a flight. I think the prices are reasonable, but then again, I live in California where everything is more expensive than it is here in Crown Point, IN. I like all their beers, from the light ales to the IPAs to the Porters. They have made the beer garden bigger, which is a plus. Yes, it basically looks out over the parking lot, but it's better than sitting inside on a beautiful summer night. Please note: Crown Brewing is not a restaurant. The food that is served in the brewery is from Carriage Court Pizza. It is not great food. Order carefully and you will be okay. We had a decent salad tonight and pizza bread which was not too bad. This brewery is tiny but the beer is delicious. There is a pizza place next door (attached to the building) where you can also eat food and drink Crown's delicious food. Note: kids are allowed in the pizza place. They have a cute little beer garden. We did the Illiana Brew Bus a little while ago and selected Crown Brewing as one of the destination spots to stop. They were the ONLY ones that provided us with cute, complimentary samples. The staff was extremely nice and the beer is delicious. My only complaint is about the size of the tap room: it IS tiny but having enormous high top tables doesn't help. The one directly across from the bar is so wide, it's hard to get in and out of your seat. Having slightly smaller tables would make the taproom much more comfortable. Not all of these beers are available now but my favorite Crown beers are: Bananas Foster Java Porter, French Toast Winter Warlock, St Mungo Scotch Ale, Heaven Hill Barrel Aged Grand Poobah (any variant of Grand Poobah is amazing), The Dude White Russian Java Porter, and their Barrel Aged Sour Raspberry Poobah. We went on a Sunday afternoon, and the table next to us was a group of 60 year old smokers (due to the smell, constant hacking, and frequent breaks) playing Cards Against Humanity...loudly. The beer was just beer, but with fancy ambitions. Still, just decent beer tough. The giant pretzel was steamed. Let that sit for a minute...steamed wrinkly pretzel with cold cheese dip. Crown Brewing has steadily been improving their craft beer game since they opened several years ago. Barrel-aged selections and seasonal beers have filled the gap they once had. One of their most fantastic beers is a Pumpkin Ale known as Ignis Fatuus Ale. It is an absolutely world-class interpretation of this style of beer. Wonderfully balanced - not too "spicy" and not too mild - it's the perfect pumpkin ale (which doesn't contain any pumpkin amazingly). Other selections which are available year round are Special Forces IPA and Crown Brown. While I love IPA's I can't put my finger on which hop is prevalent in the Special Forces IPA. It is a bit too skunky for my tastes, but your mileage may vary. The Crown Brown is a great session beer and goes down smooth as silk. Delicious. After reading some of these reviews I see there is some confusion when it comes to food. Crown Brewing DOESN'T MAKE THEIR OWN FOOD. They merely share a building with Carriage Court Pizza which serves its food at Crown Brewing. You can also eat at Carriage Court Pizza and order Crown Brewing beers. It's a simple concept, but it seems quite unfair to lump a bad food rating into Crown Brewing when it should be placed under Carriage Court Pizza reviews instead. read more

Stopped by here on the way home from Turkey Run State Park. Great stopping point because they have outdoor seating, great food, delicious beer and welcome well behaved dogs on the patio area! The location is fabulous, the bartenders and servers are very friendly, and I love to support local businesses...BUT, the beer is just OK (lately their brews are between 3.5% ABV and 5% ABV) and the menu lacks creativity. My burger was overcooked and the app was really greasy. I was also irritated by the swarms of kids in the restaurant and on the patio. When the rug rats outnumber the adults 3 to 1, I become a bit testy. Although I'm just speculating, I'm fairly certain these little monsters were the reason our meal took forever to prepare and arrived cold. Ugh. I'm not very eager to return to Crown Brewing. I have been here several times and have always had a great experience. The crown blue and java porter are my favorites! Their food selections come from Carriage Court Pizza which is in the same building. Everything I have had was awesome! It is very reasonably priced as well. I recently had my husband's 30th birthday party here and party planning was simple and well priced. I ordered salad, breadsticks, and pizzas with non-alcoholic beverages for $11 per person - all items were unlimited. We had unlimited options for pizzas and did not have to choose just a few combinations for toppings, which was really a unique touch. I did not do any special decorating but that was available if I wanted. The only problem with the party room is that it is upstairs and there did not appear to be handicapped access. I went here even though it is the competition of a family owned bar in Crown Point. I had a flight of beer. I only really liked the Crown Blue. I also had the fried mushrooms. They were huge but very over cooked and had a bad after taste. I got a growler of the Crown Blue. The bartender was very nice, but she didn't seal the growler and all 64 ozs spilled in my car. I took my growler back on a Wednesday for an $8 refill, but the bartender there that day would not fill my growler because she said it was dirty. I understand, but she was very rude and made me feel stupid. I ended up throwing the growler out instead of cleaning it, and I don't plan on going back. read more

We stayed away from the IPAs since we don't like super hoppy beers, but enjoyed the Blue, Mango Saison, (surprisingly since I don't care for wits) the Orange Wit, and the Java Porter: Pecan Pie. I always look forward to going to Crown. Their beers are good. Their food is standard Midwestern fried things (not vegetarian friendly unless you want pizza or fried veggies or mozzarella sticks) and the service is always really friendly. It's quite small so if there's a local event or game on you probably won't get a table. Their little outside patio is nice when it's open. And the historic town of Crown Point is a cute (albiet short) diversion after you've had your food and drink. No, it's not the best beer I've ever had. But it's not bad by any means. The only one that blew me away was their Industrial Java Porter, which I bought a growler of. Their Pumpkin Ale was good too.
