Please only come here for beer. They have a good selection and my fiancé really enjoyed all the beers in his flight. I ordered a cocktail (the birthday drink) and the bartender seemed mad that he had to make it. There is a full bar here and he kept complaining that people shouldn't come to a brewery and order a cocktail. He was a real negative Nancy. Otherwise, the bar was cool, the other patrons were fun to talk to, and the decor was awesome. Brewery/taproom located in Chesterton. Parking lot was a little confusing, but then we found the place. Bartender/Owner Bill was super friendly and described his current offerings. They have a wide variety of beer available. I usually go for ipas, but they had a refreshing sour that I enjoyed. He also shared with us other breweries/restaurants in the area that he recommends. Stopped by again last night when I noticed canopies over the patio and people outside. It was cool enough for my dog to stay in my car with the windows open and parked in view. The owner is serious about having everyone wear a mask when entering the building or when ordering from the patio window. The current tap beers are limited and are on a menu posted outside. This time I had the Hefeweizen and Cream Ale and both were very good. Beer is served in plastic cups. One can ask to sit inside. The counter is taped off and tables are spread apart. Hand sanitizer is by the front door. Restroom door has a foot pedal opening, so there's no touching when coming or going from the rest room. Please support independent brewers! They are hurting for business during this pandemic. Other brewers in the Region have had to close permanently or are temporary closed. Hunter's is still open for take-out and sit-down. read more

I have been to hunter's about 5 times. Every time it has been a good experience. If you are going I suggest that you look at the menu before you go. They have many rotating taps and a handful of their own beer on tap. If you look at the menu before you get there you will be happy with the service, I say this because if you walk in and ask what they have, if they are busy they don't have time to go through the list, but if you walk in with an idea of what they have they will answer any questions, and give you a sample. I like going to places that have unique things. When my wife and I go I really enjoy trying their smoked beers. My wife is a fan of sours. If you like sours they always have a nice selection of things we haven't seen other places. Another thing that sets them apart is if you are with someone that doesn't like beer they always have a nice selection of ciders, as well as a full bar. They really do have something for everyone. I have eaten there on many occasion, if you are looking for good food they have good food. Don't go in expecting a gourmet chef inspired meal, but everything has been good. If you are looking for a quaint place that probably has something you haven't tried before, I highly recommend them. read more

Recently tried this place out while I was in the area on vacation. It's a small brewery and the parking is a bit of a challenge but this place is phenomenal. The service here was very phenomenal! There's no seating at the bar but they had a great selection of ciders and a pixie seltzer I had to try. The bathrooms and atmosphere are clean and friendly. Prices are very fair. Nice little brewery located in Chesterton, IN. About 5 mins off I-94 so not too inconvenient to stop at. They have a small outdoor seating area, 3 tables you can fit 3-4 people at. I got the don't think twice and the threadsplitter, both good. Most beers are available to go as well. They share a big parking lot with the building next door, so plenty of space to park. They have a good socially distant ordering system if you're outside, you ring a bell at a screened window and they'll take your order. If you happen to be in the area and are looking for a brewery to stop at, this one is one to check out. read more

There certainly is no shortage of brewery choices in the Midwest. Hunter's Brewery continues to be one of my favorites. They have an ever choice of beers on tap and there's always something that I like. They carry their 8-9 of own beers as well as 9-10 guest breweries to try. The bartenders are helpful and very knowledgeable about the beer, often encouraging you to try out new things. The atmosphere is very friendly and laid back and the owners are nice people. Hunter's only serves vegetarian/vegan fare. They pass the test with the meat lovers in our group. We all love the cauliflower tacos, black bean burgers, and the Kansas Moon sandwich. Everything, the bread, black bean burgers, dips, and condiments are handmade prepared from scratch. The food may take a bit longer because everything is cooked to order. Went last night for the first time. It was terrible. The guy who owns the place was a dick to my husband and I. It was my husband's birthday! Beer was terrible. I was duck-walking the Sand Dunes at the nearby Indiana Dunes State Park a few miles north of here so I wouldn't get sand in my shoes. That effort was like the thighmaster with two 20 lb. dumbbells attached. Ok, I accentuate a bit too much. But not here, I had the pub cheese with the pretzels...oh, so, good. Then I had a small fruit beer, in-house called LEFT of CENTER:: Cilantro-lime golden ale. Bright juicy lime aroma and upfront flavor that transitions into herbal cilantro notes.. Oh that was tasty...so i went with my favorite beer style, their in-house porter beer with Rich notes of bittersweet chocolate and dark roast coffee from dark malts. Full of flavor but not heavy. ..called the Porter County , which is the namesake of the county in which chesterton exists. I had the Adult Grilled Cheese. Woah, it was a bit sugary but I loved it! menu lists it as: Grown-up Grilled Cheese - manchego cheese, house-made olive tapenade, fig jam (warm) I am so proud of this place. Making a stand for good beer in Northern Indiana, and the food was so solid. If you only get one food item, it is a toss-up between the pub cheese dip and the Grown-Up Grilled Cheese. YUM! Music was too loud and Bartender/owner was rude when I tried to ask about the attributes of a couple different drinks. I was trying to make it quick but i was instantly shot down with " look at the menu and figure out what you want before ordering", I think because he was overwhelmed but still. That along with the music being too long ruined my time. Food was pretty decent but nothing to right home about. Should be noted i have been there before and had a completely different experience when it was less busy. BRING YOUR ID! Regardless of your age, you will get turned down without one. I'm going to make this a very simple review. As a precursor, it's a review on the business, not just the beer. The beer was good, a few great but none were bad. It would have received 5 stars if there was more to the brewery but it was a bar with tables. No tv's, no music, no jello wrestling. Fortunately there was a good truck outside that helped. They sell flights for $11 (8-4.5 oz.) which is a good amount to not have a snack or two. At the end of the day, everything was quality and I will go back. They have a very humble started having only been open for six months so I hope they continue with their passion and continue to produce a quality product. We are always looking for local breweries, we were excited to find this one. We came in asked about the selection and were about to order when my friend needed to use the restroom. The employee stated we could not use the restroom until we ordered first. We found it odd but we said right when she gets back from the rest room we will order. He said "we could not use the rest room until we ordered in this day and age". I'm not sure what that meant but we left. We had picked a table out our stuff down and I was going to stay and look at the menu so we could order when she got back. We both needed to wash our hands and would have been ready to order. We left, we were made to feel as if we weren't welcome. It's a small business and we were hoping to make it a regular stop, one we could recommend, instead we weren't even allowed to order. read more

And then, I was insulted when I asked him about IBU's. His response was, "Who cares? That's not important!" He clearly didn't want us there! We sat outside and only had one beer and then our wives came to pick us up, but we weren't done yet. So, they sat at a table beside us and he comes out and tells them to leave if they're not going to order anything because "there's no loitering allowed"... WTF!! We've been coming here for awhile for the beer (and beer cheese dip) and have always loved it. Beer is delicious (both the home brews and the ever- rotating guest beer selection) and its always fun to try something new. Tonight, we didn't feel like cooking, so decided to branch out from the appetizer menu and get dinner as well. All I can say is WOW. We have been missing out- the food is incredible. We tried the black bean cashew burger and the grown up grilled cheese. Both were cooked to perfection with amazing flavors. We already loved the atmosphere and the beer, now we're coming back for the food as well. Prices were great- especially for fresh, delicious food. I'm giving this place 5 stars because I think if you're in the area you should definitely give Hunter's Brewing a try. It may not look like much from the outside but it's a real hidden gem on the inside. Not only do they have a good selection of their own brews but they complement it with a really well curated selection of guest taps. I liked some of their beers and they definitely brew things true to style which is great because you get what you'd expect from the names but my favorite beers ended up being two guest offerings (one from The Bruery hailing all the way from Orange County and a local Untitled Art/Mikerphone collaboration). The food here is also odd of this world good. They make EVERYTHING in house, everything. The bread is just killer. I shared one of their gourmet grilled cheeses and the veggie burger and the focaccia for the grilled chese and the bun for the veggie burger were out of this world good. A couple up at the bar ordered the ramen and that delicious smell permeated all the way to my table. One thing to note is that they're 21+ (not quite sure why, maybe some odd Indiana laws) so leave the kids at home. read more

Regarding the later, they don't serve anything with meat, and I found their version of a grilled cheese sandwich to be fabulous. So is the beer, and it helped to have an expert pallet guiding me through the choices. It was also cool that Jesse was on a first name basis with the staff and knew quite a bit about this place's history and approach to the beer arts. It used to be that you could slap the title "microbrewery" on any old dump and you'd have yourself a winner. Not so anymore. Nowadays you either need visionary brew or eclectic atmosphere to stand out from a crowded pack. Unfortunately, Hunter's falls disappointingly short on both counts. Occupying the end of a drab commercial building, Hunter's doesn't offer much as far as location. The interior is sparsely decorated with a small bar, some tables, and a few plush sofas in the corner. There really isn't much to distinguish this place from any other suburban lounge or watering hole. The beer at this self-proclaimed boutique brewery didn't quite do it for me either. Now the brews I had didn't exhibited much complexity, and most lacked malt character contributing to generally uninspiring offerings. The stand out was probably their Porter which was slightly above average at best. I feel for small brewers these days. It's a competitive game that demands imagination and panache. Hunter's offers modest brews set in a bland ambiance--certainly not enough to set itself apart from more distinguished breweries in the area. read more

You no longer have to go to Valpo to visit a brewery Chesterton! Hunter's is a nano brewery which means really small batches. That means excellent beer, but the always possibility of them running out of a style when they are open. Their hours are short right now, but they make a good beer so i have a feeling their hours will grow as their patronage grows. There isn't a ton of seating (plenty of standup area with tall tables for your drinks) so if you need to sit, get there when they open or get lucky. Absolutely recommend stopping in to try their lineup. read more

My husband and I visited for the first time for a date night. I was surprised by all the vegetarian options at a brewery - basically the whole menu. My favorite was probably the cauliflower with tapenade, although we split the two grilled cheese options - one with fig and manchego - which we're both delicious. Recommend it highly! Good beer and conversation. Not only is the business model simple, but they back it up with flavorful and interesting options of stand up IPA, ale, stouts, Saison, porter beers. Always ready to help you understand the content of a flight. The names are clever and researched. When the beer says IPA, it tastes like an IPA. When it says Saison, it tastes like Saison, Etc. and I notice they often have another variation of the same so you can compare. I found it interesting. In fact during National IPA Day they had 4 IPA stylings I believe. Since it is a boutique brewery (small batches) favorites may sell out in a day or two. But they always return into the rotation. Kinda felt a bit weird getting carded at our age, but the partners seem very protective of maintaining in good graces with the state of Indiana's odd liquor laws. So have your ID. Hours are limited, but really, I don't need to be drinking beer 7 nights a week. The focus is on making beer. I think, in my opinion, good solid tasting beer. The establishment had more room inside than I anticipated. Dozen bar chairs at the counter, two long hi-tops and couches for socializing. Big glass window to view where the stuff gets done.
