Cute little meadery located just off the square in downtown Valpo. It peaked my interests so I decided to stop it and try a flight of mead. The employees were very nice and chatted with me a bit. They make the mead right downstairs. I enjoyed all of them except the buckwheat which was too biter for my taste. It was basically empty when I went but I hear it gets busy after dinner time. Also, Wednesday's is board game night, bring a game and hang out with some mead!

Misbeehavin' meads: the name alone should tell you it is great !

Ignore the negative reviews. I am giggling at some of the aforementioned. A mead is a strange, exotic beverage. It can range in sweetness and flavor, but it is ever delicious. I love the idea of such an fun, different place in a small town. We were visiting on our honeymoon. The owner was fantastic. I love the aesthetic and did divulge in purchasing some merch. Actually, the owner gave us two free add ons to our flights after talking to us about our interests. Lovely experience!!!

Great options, cute space, nice server, and the beads are delicious! Outdoor space as well for a nice day! They also have a club with this cool horn holder

    A flight.

A hidden gem of Valpo. Excellent selection that is ever changing at a reasonable price. Besides mead they also have hard ciders. I've been here multiple times and they generally aren't very busy. Would recommend.

We had such a fun time learning about meads from Clint. Loved that his tasting room was kid friendly. Really enjoyed the distinct taste of each mead and the detail with which he explained the ingredients. My favorites were the strawberry and orange blossom. He had really unique flavors like a coconut coffee mead. We're from out of town and Clint was also very helpful in pointing out local attractions. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you're visiting the Indiana Dunes area.

A meadists dream. The OB Mead was my fave.

What a gem in Valpo! They have both hard cider and mead (honey wines). The flights are the way to go if you want to try lots of things. Some of their mead was sweet and some was drier. The buckwheat mead should be drank whilst smoking a cigar in a room of rich mahogany. They had a carbonated orange blossom mead with hops that was killer. The owners are super nice and fun to hang out with. I just wish I lived closer..... There's something for everyone here.

Great local meadery & winery. I love the unique flavors they come out with such as peanut butter & jelly and carrot cake . A must try if in town!

Located on Elston a wee bit north of Montrose, Second City Meadery has been open for about 18 months. We tried the Intro Flight, four meads including Session City (grapefruit), Angelic (a "traditional" dry mead), Summer in the City (pineapple and peach mead with coconut), and Barrel Aged Wildflower (Michigan Wildflower aged in a whiskey barrel). Of the four, my love and I enjoyed Summer in the City the most, as it was a sweeter mead but not the sweetest. Our friends went with the splurgier Brewer's Flight. From their flight we tried a sip of the Blue Line (blueberry mead with vanilla and cashew), and we liked it so much that we ordered a glass of it. There was a handy water dispenser for us to hydrate ourselves between tasty sips of mead. While I am still a beer kind of guy, the meads were a fine changeup. Since we live very close by, I imagine we will visit again this summer.

We wanted to try it all so we ordered the Intro Flight and the Adanced Flight. These are all sweet and Hugh percentages, so be careful. They do not serve food there so eat something beforehand to soak up the alcohol, but don't get too full. Even though the flights seem like little pours in the small glasses, but it's actually a lot. I would definitely come back again for some mead.

Every bottle feels like it's crafted with care, and you can really taste the difference. The flavors are unique and unexpected -- from bright, fruity blends to rich, spiced varieties, there's something for every palate. The cocktail bar (the Honeybee Tiki Bar) is suitably tiki-themed, and you can get either mead-laced tiki drinks, or drinks from their tasting menu. I got a 1 oz pour of "Still Dreamin'" melomel made with orange blossom honey, orange zest and vanilla, as well as the 5 oz. "Tangerine Dream" session mead, which was lightly carbonated (tasted like a dreamsicle float, as opposed to the classic style of mead which is more viscous and not unlike a liqueur in texture). Both were very tasty, and this was a nice way to try different styles. My fiance had a mocktail with pineapple and passion fruit that still fit into the tiki vibe. Our server was attentive enough to be helpful but in the background enough to not be pestering us; good balance. While they don't serve food themselves, watch their social media for the rotation of visiting restaurants; we had amazing duck fat buffalo wings and sweet potato fries from Dak Dak Wings in Villa Park! Overall, mead doesn't just have to be at the Renaissance faire! Check out Standard Meadery's creative offerings soon.

I thought it would be more like a brewery where one could spend some time hanging out and unwinding, a "third-place" kind of spot. When I showed up, I found that while there was a patio, it was the kind where you had to be seated by a host. Thus, unless you are at the bar, spontaneous conversations with strangers are less likely. With that said, Eris is a large brewpub with a full bar, including liquor and cocktails, as well as a robust food menu. Wanting only to try some ciders, I took a seat at the bar. I had the opportunity to try a 5-ounce pour each of the E-Phoria and the Van Van Mojo. Both were tasty. The E-Phoria was on the sweeter side, while the Van Van Mojo was less sweet (though not entirely dry) and unique with the addition of blueberries. Neither was mind-blowing, but both were enjoyable in their own right. The bar service was A-OK, especially considering it was a very quiet night. It was friendly and somewhat attentive. I appreciate that there are some closing-related duties that have to be done, and watching the two patrons at the bar like a hawk might make them nervous. Final Verdict: I think the trick with Eris is not to treat it as a "let me get a beverage and hang out" place, but rather a place for a sit-down meal and drinks. With that, I am hoping to return at some point with an empty stomach. However, to be 100% fair, I am not itching to break down the door and come back.
