My fiance and I came here on a recent weekend because...I love mead! So it's exciting to see more meaderies around. The cocktail bar (the Honeybee Tiki Bar) is suitably tiki-themed, and you can get either mead-laced tiki drinks, or drinks from their tasting menu. I got a 1 oz pour of "Still Dreamin'" melomel made with orange blossom honey, orange zest and vanilla, as well as the 5 oz. "Tangerine Dream" session mead, which was lightly carbonated (tasted like a dreamsicle float, as opposed to the classic style of mead which is more viscous and not unlike a liqueur in texture). Both were very tasty, and this was a nice way to try different styles. My fiance had a mocktail with pineapple and passion fruit that still fit into the tiki vibe. Our server was attentive enough to be helpful but in the background enough to not be pestering us; good balance. While they don't serve food themselves, watch their social media for the rotation of visiting restaurants; we had amazing duck fat buffalo wings and sweet potato fries from Dak Dak Wings in Villa Park! Cute place with reasonable prices. I used to think all meads were alike. This place changed my mind. Very flavorful options with lower alcohol content which is nice. They offer 1 Oz pours of their still meads or 5/10 Oz pours of their session meads. My favorite was the slimer which I opted to take home. Inside is tiny. Not many seats available at the bar and there were 2 large groups occupying most of the seating on my day of visit. Staff was friendly. Some parking out front. read more

I had (5 oz each): Both Pina coladas One shot Passion fruit lemonade The place is small and has limited seating. There were 2 large groups that used 50% of the tables, and it got pretty loud. The vibe is modern and hip, and not dull and boring. There's about 20 people here, and the average age had to be 25-30. I saw this Meadery on Yelp. So, I decide to stop in today and check out the menu. This place is Everything. I walked inside and instantly felt a good vibe. The energy itself was a plus for me. Gosh. I forgot the young ladies name. I think it was Karen. She was awesome. I told her to surprise me with two of the best flavored meads. Went to Standard Meadery with a group of friends. Located off the Prairie Path, this spot has indoor and outdoor seating. The menu offers homemade mead on tap and a small food menu. In addition, they have a tiki cocktail menu which also has happy hour specials of $2 off drinks and snacks. We tried The Honey Bee, Ernesto, and Lemonade Was A Popular Drink on top of a glass of mead/chips and salsa. The salsa was fresh and locally sourced (three options of spices). I'm usually not a big fan of sweeter beverages on hot days, but the mead here was actually really refreshing. They're well balanced with sweetness and citrus, blackberry or other astringent flavors so you don't just get a bunch of sugary syrup. The drinks were delicious. Service was prompt and friendly. We came later on a Sunday and they were closing earlier than I realized, so I didn't get to stay as long as I'd hoped. But I will be back! read more

This place is really cute, in my home-town, and has tiki drinks. What more could I want? We came in on Sunday around 1 to check this place out, knowing I've never had mead but also mostly wanting to check out the tiki drinks. The bar is a small tasting room with just a few tables and a small bar. We were easily able to find a table at this time and the bar remained mostly empty during the time we were there. We thought their drinks were delicious and super cute. Among the things we tasted between two of us were the mead thai, painkiller, painkiller with milk, and a mai thai. Now on to me being picky. Service was just honestly terrible. I was there for almost 2 hours and most likely would have had 1 or 2 more drinks (wasn't driving) if I had stayed that long and my server was attentive. It took us almost 40 minutes just to get our check. The waiters and waitresses were mostly just sitting behind the bar talking to each other. I think I would definitely try this place again, based on reviews I would again go during an off time, and just hope for better service! read more

A fantastic little space with equally fantastic mead! We aren't huge mead drinkers by trade, but the beertender at Afterthought Brewing recommended this place to us. After a short drive, we arrived at Standard Meadery and immediately ordered a bunch of tasters of their mead. We were absolutely blown away by their slush-style mead, in particular the Coconut Creamsicle and Pina Colada ones. To be fair, even the quote-unquote "bad" ones were still really good! Not to mention, they were playing some of my favorite jams so my tipsy ass was bopping and sipping the entire time. Pricing was fair and service was great. Do yourself a favor and visit! read more

I've only recently gotten into mead, but in my limited time, I've come to recognized Standard as some of the best mead you can get around Chicago. Their taproom is on the smaller side, but their beautiful bar and windows allow lots of natural lights. They've got a mix of your typical high ABV meads served in 1 ounce pours and the session meads that are on the sweeter side. There are also cocktails that look delicious! The staff are friendly and very helpful. The only downside is the music is...a choice. It's usually super loud and blaring. They don't know how to handle being busy. Nothing says check in or there is a wait list. The waitresses even said they didn't know what was going on. It's a simple fix by putting up a sign saying check in. If you want to go, go when you know they are slow! I love the drinks but the attitude by mgmt/owners is not worth it.
