I love the beer here, especially if they're hazy beer. Four out of five stars for the beer. We got the happy hour pricing for the beer since it was between three and 5 o'clock. I ordered the Smashburger because the server told me it was the best burger in town. It may have been the best burger in town because I have nothing to compare it to, but it was not good. It was the special for the day. It was $15 for the burger and fries. I ordered it without onions. It came with a lot of shredded lettuce and sauce between the bottom bun and the burger. I was not a fan of the amount of sauce that came with this burger. The burger itself did not have any flavor. It looked like there was some pepper in the meat, but I could not taste anything. The brioche bun disintegrated in my mouth after each bite. My experience with a bun like this is it was either frozen or it is stale. Not sure why the bun was bad since it was their special that day. I chose poorly with a burger. Every other time I went, I got the Yakisoba noodles with short rib ribs. The noodles with the short ribs are the best in town and probably the best in Northwest Indiana. read more

Blockhead is a cool find in the little city of Valparaiso. We were staying nearby after a visit to the Indiana Dunes, and we were searching for decent sushi that wouldn't require a drive into Chicago. Blockhead definitely delivered on the food and the vibes. It was busy when we arrived, but we were still able to grab a table for two on the patio. The host didn't seem too friendly, but our waitress made up for that with quick service and solid recommendations. Although this is a brewery, the cocktail menu had so many fun options to choose from, so I opted for the mango sticky rice cocktail (I forget the exact name). It was delicious! My husband ordered the Two Suns of Tatooine, which wasn't his favorite initially, but had a better taste after sitting for a while. For dinner, we tried a bit of everything! The Yuzu Butter Wings had a unique, craveable flavor, although the wings themselves were a bit fatty. The Crab Rangoon Potstickers were stuffed with real crab and just the right amount of cream cheese. If you like a classic crab rangoon, I think you'll really enjoy Blockhead's twist on it. We also split a few sushi rolls, which hit the spot! The Spicy Crunchy Tuna was my favorite, and my husband loved the Krustee Crab. Finally, we shared a bowl of the Night King ramen noodles. Came here for lunch. Not too many people here around 11:30am. The lady at the bar took my order. I started off with the It's the Great Pumpkin beer. It was very good. Has a little bit of spice and has a beautiful orange/amber color. I also ordered their special sushi roll Mon Calamari and the truffle fries. Both were very good! The fries were crispy. This is such a unique place. The name definitely makes it sound like it will be brewery vibes, which it is but also is more of an Asian fusion sushi house. I sat at the bar and just had a drink before going to another event in town and the service was great. I loved that the bartenders left you alone except for when they knew you might need another drink. Though I didn't try any of the sushi, the person sitting next to me at the bar did rave about it while they were eating. I would definitely go back to this place solely for the vibes. read more

Was introduced to this amazing brewery at my local Purdue campus AJSs Burgers via the incredible porter, recently dropped in the real homestead for a sample and four pack of bitter ales which really round out a variety of quality skills this place can brew up. It's a neat ambience, friendly staff, and plenty of parking in the top tier of Valparaiso downtown. We also ordered the seasonal baos that they had. It was like eating an Asian fusion Thanksgiving mini bao sandwich. It was covered in a ton of sauce, and was $15 for the 2 baos. It was good, but i wouldn't order again because of the price with it being like an appetizer. Our server constantly checked up on us which was nice. She was ontop of making sure our drinks were filled and that our needs were met. The only tiny issue I had is that I got Dr Pepper and it tasted a bit flat. Not the end of the world and wouldn't stop me from avoiding the place all together. If you're looking for a place to get some quality ramen or sushi I would definitely check them out. Husband and I went to Blockheads for a date night, to try something new. We went on a Saturday about 6pm, got put on a waiting list (estimate wait was about 45 minutes). It was really about an 1 hour. We got seated and noticed it was quite loud atmosphere. Our drinks took a minute to get made. We ordered the Crab Rangoon Potstickers. The appetizer wasn't a potsticker but I wasn't mad because they were amazing! Hubby ordered the Pork Belly BLT, it looked amazing but the meat lacked flavor. The sauces on the sandwich made up for it. I ordered the Terranoodz with Chicken, the noodles were not cooked well and the dish was a little bit spicy for my liking. Another fun restaurant in downtown Valpo, right next to Greek's. We arrived on a Saturday night at 5 pm, and it was already busy. We were told it was a 75-minute wait, but it was actually around 20-30, so that was a relief. The "main squeeze" bao with lobster salad was definitely the star- really great seasoning, texture combos, and plenty of lobster. The spicy crunchy tuna roll definitely packed some heat. My friend got a noodle dish with fried egg and enjoyed that. The sushi prices seem high, and I wish more options were free of eel and non-fried. what an awful experience. i came in with my friends saturday night after traveling from california, the initial service was awful. i was with a group of friends. initially all of our orders were delivered separately from the most lack luster wait staff i've seen in my life. the ambiance was full of itself and the the "extensive" beer menu was pitiful. the food itself seemed like they took a ten year old and told him to throw ingredients together and called it fusion. what is isreali couscous? how did something that originated from north africa suddenly become isreali? and adding it to shawarma? theres a level of integreity that comes when you do fusion food and this half baked brewery has none of it. also the spicy tuna genuinely smelt like socks and rotten fish, i wasnt too confident of the hygine of the staff, if you want real asian food go to tanuki down the street, dont waste your time! read more

We've been on a 2.5 month long X country trip and somehow landed in Valaspero. We noticed the brewery sign and decided to stop in. Our server Abigail was friendly and engaging, and gave full descriptions of the beers that we had questions about. With that said we both ordered flights. I'm a pale ale and ipa fan, my wife is more lager and Pilsner fan. We both really liked our selections and was impressed with the quality.
