My mother in law ordered the same sandwich and they both agreed that it could use some sauce or maybe even some of their aioli, you could probably order some on the side. My father in law got the pulled pork. He is a picky eater and he said it was good. He didn't like the cole slaw, it wasn't tart enough for him. The ambience is really cute, with plenty of seating and some fun artwork on the walls that gives the place a nice atmosphere. We ordered a beer flight, and I really enjoyed one of their sours, which was definitely a highlight for me. Unfortunately, the food was a different story. We ordered a few things and honestly weren't big fans of any of it. Even though the food wasn't really for us, we still enjoyed the atmosphere and the beer, so I'm giving Burnham Brewing . I'd definitely come back for the drinks and atmosphere, but I'd probably try something different food-wise next time!

I was not a fan of the amount of sauce that came with this burger. The burger itself did not have any flavor. It looked like there was some pepper in the meat, but I could not taste anything. The brioche bun disintegrated in my mouth after each bite. My experience with a bun like this is it was either frozen or it is stale. Not sure why the bun was bad since it was their special that day. My wife and I spent several days in Valparaiso to both visit her sister and introduce me to the…read moretown where both of them went to college. I had always wanted to go there and am very happy to say that I totally enjoyed the visit. While there, we visited a lot of places and ate most meals out. Ironwood was one of them. Most of you know that I have serious OCD when it comes to craft beer. I like to try new breweries, always rate my suds on Untappd, and rarely drink beers that I have already had, unless there are no other options. So, of course I was going to try the breweries in Valparaiso. This one just happened to be owned by one of my wife's college friends. The brewery is in a nice little building. I'm sure it was probably a home before the remodel. It has ample parking in the back next to a small little patch of woods, probably about the size of a normal backyard. There were birds all over the trees, reminding me that I had made the stupid decision to leave my camera in San Antonio. My eyes immediately fell on the flight boards. They are set up with 9 spaces so that they can easily match the beer to a number, as they had nine choices to choose from. I asked for all nine to be on one, and she let me have them half-filled. I love beer, but never want to feel buzzed, if I plan to drive. In this situation, I just wanted to taste them. I liked all of the beers here. My two favorites were the Triple XXX Belgian Triple and the Cricket IPA. I also really liked Goliath's Demise barleywine. Barleywines in general are not my favorites, usually because they are not fresh. This one was fresh and not cloyingly sweet. My wife, as most of you know, is not a beer drinker- AT ALL. For that reason, we left after I finished the flight and a couple of small glasses of my two favorites. The atmosphere was very cozy. The local patrons who came in were all very friendly. One lady at the bar spoke with us as if we were there with her every day. The owner's husband came in and placed a plate with smoked salmon and crackers on the bar for everyone. And, most notably, there was not a TV in sight! Imagine, a place to cozily sit and converse with fellow beer drinkers without sports blasting in your ears!

There in the town of Porter lies Leroy's, roughly a mile east of Exit 22, a place we frequently passed by over the years but never checked out - til last nite. And though a wee bit apprehensive upon arriving, those hesitations quickly vanished upon entry. Admittedly it can get noisy in the main area (wherein lie the bar, band stage, pool tables and some seating arrangements), which you have to pass thru (a bit awkward) to get to the main dining area (quieter but not totally devoid of noise). Compounding the noise factor were a few babies who let everyone know how they felt. But it wasn't too long before they stopped crying and the band concluded. However, regardless, none of it deterred me, my mixed race son or his mom from having a memorable time. Whatever noise existed was compensated by an overall delightful atmosphere. Not quite what we anticipated but it was so cool. From the moment we sat down at the one remaining unoccupied booth (open seating) til departing, all three of us had a wonderful time. The food was just terrific. The combo plate (mine), the chicken con queso (my son's dish) and chicken en mole (his mom's) were all tasty with good portions and fairly priced (the rice and beans particularly tasty). It's also not often you can get a good selection of meals under $15 these days but here you can. The salad was quite notable since all premium greens were used, no head lettuce or romaine. Impressive. The salsa could perhaps use a little oomph but hardly bad. The complimentary chips looked homemade and were good but could have used a bit more salt. We did initially ask for our chips instead of being automatically delivered but they came fast and as soon as we finished the first batch, a second was quickly delivered to our table. We also had to request sour cream as it didn't come with the meals but was also promptly brought to the table and also at no charge. The pop and free refills, served in decorative glasses, rounded out our stay. But as much as the food was worth what we paid for, equally memorable was the attentive service from the git go. We could not have asked for better. Nicole, our waitress, was superb thru and thru, perfect. Same with Brandon, her husband, who looked like a supervisor and came to assist wherever needed (as he did with the bringing of food and drink). He also took time from his schedule to chat with us at breaks and in doing so, hit it off with us. Not something we obviously expected but we loved it. Great guy as well as his wife. Both individuals were the faces of Leroy's and they sold it oh so well. We all don't have that kind of money to eat out that often but with the fine food and unusually good service we will have to find a way to soon return to Leroy's. Despite the noise, very highly recommended and worth the drive, regardless of whether you live in Hoosierville or just passing thru. One of those hidden gems. Ignore all the old whiny reviews. Leroy's is indeed good stuff and for good reason.
