First time trying this place and to be honest the search will continue for a decent Chinese take out place. I ventured here and was surprised when I saw the shopping mall of food. After a long break due to moving, I've tried this place again several times. Unfortunately, the quality & quality control has declined. Breaded dishes like General Tso's are often overly breaded, tough, sub-par meat. The egg rolls are leathery, often overcooked, & pretty bland. Service is still decent. read more

Granted, like most Chinese restaurants in the USA it is really American-Chinese, but the food is prepared well, the spectrum of dishes is broad, the flavor is delicious, and the amounts are very large. We've ate at this place twice and we give it 3.5 stars. General tso and orange chicken were very soggy. If you like that kind of texture then give it a try but I like mine crunchy on the outside and soft tender chicken on the inside. Their fried rice is really good, that's the only good thing I had there. Sweet and sour chicken were crunchy, someone used common sense and made air holes for the box otherwise it would have been soggy. Wonton soup was very salty and the meat inside of it was nasty. Egg roll tasted like any egg roll, cabbage stuffed with meat. We also ordered the triple delight and that was not that bad. The veggies that came with it was very gross. I have been coming to this Chinese food restaurant for 20 years now and I am satisfied every time! For those complaining about wait times, they are in high-demand Friday-Sunday and on Christmas! So I recommend putting your order in BEFORE you get hungry but that's usually common sense for people. I love this place and I've been friends with the woman at the front desk since I was 10 years old, they have great customer service. After being a regular in Dumfries for about a year now, I've had my fair share of Chinese takeout. Friends of mine rave about New Hunan as some of the best Chinese food they've had and I was baffled that I had tried every place but this so we decided to order some last night. Between two people, we ordered beef lo mein (extra spicy), general tso's chicken and plain fried rice. The general tso's was great and very crispy without the heavy breading. It was light and didn't make you feel bloated after. The beef lo mein was great as well but it wasn't spicy at all. I could see a few specks of crushed red pepper here and there but didn't taste anything. Granted, my spice tolerance is pretty high but even my boyfriend thought it wasn't as spicy as you would expect it to be. New Hunan is definitely a place we will be ordering food from now on but I think I will be asking for some extra chili oil or powder on the side to adjust the level to my liking. read more

After moving to the area recently, I've been searching for a good spot for Chinese fare. This was my first time ordering from NH, and first time using the Beyond Menu online app. Ordered seafood combination, shrimp fried rice, egg rolls and a small hot and sour soup. Food was delivered at the expected time, piping hot. Great flavor, so I didn't need soy sauce as I usually do with takeout. The portion sizes were generous, so I have enough food for a couple more dinners. They thoughtfully added crispy wonton noodles and sauces without request or extra charge. read more

My husband and I love New Hunan. We have never had bad food from here. He always gets the combo fried rice which is really good. It's not too greasy like some places, but it is fried rice so some grease is a given :-). The meat and veggies are also plentiful in the dish. With Chinese take-out I normally get 3 things, sesame chicken, orange chicken and general tso's chicken and all are great! Nice chunks of fried chicken, flavorful sauce and good spice level. I didn't care for their egg rolls b/c I found the wrapper a bit tough, but the spring rolls are perfect; nice and crisp and tasty. I would beware of any review by BW; she seems to be a 1 star bomber if you check her history and some reviews she gave without even going to the restaurant. I also checked their health code rating just this year and whatever violations they had were corrected. I've never gotten sick here. I've gone to the restaurant as well and while it wasn't the most up to date, it was pretty clean from what I could see. But lets face it, if we saw what even upscale restaurants really did, we wouldn't eat anywhere. As for service, it's always excellent. If you're worried about any language barrier, don't! They speak very good English and I've never had a problem relaying info or understanding anyone I've spoken to. Delivery is always very courteous and very fast! We do live right in Ashburn subdivision, but still, getting food within a half hour is fine by me. read more

Nice clean location and friendly staff- but the food was not great. We ordered shrimp spring rolls- but it was just cabbage inside. We ordered chicken and broccoli- but the broccoli was undercooked and the cheap plastic fork literally could not pierce it... and the entire dish was super greasy. Had some good ginger flavor but was overpowered by the grease. Also ordered egg drop soup which was delicious but nuclear hot. Came with crunchy noodles- but they were stale. Would love to return because it was clean, the bathroom was nice and the lady at the counter was super nice. But they need to get their kitchen in order first. read more

Normally eating here has always been a good experience. The food has been great and fresh. Tonight we placed a LARGE order and when we got home my Grandma's Chow Mein was the most unappealing thing I've ever seen. It honestly looks like someone ate it and then puked it into a soup container. My husband took it back and I called to explain it and the woman couldn't manage to understand the phone call. I sent my husband a text letting him know he'd need to explain it to her and supplied him with photos of what we should have gotten. She tried to say that the millions of photos of chow mein was in fact not chow mein.... ummm I'm going to go with she has no real clue. I've gone to New Hunan for about 20 years. However, this place has really gone down hill and won't be back after this latest experience. Last night my wife and I ordered the General Tso's chicken and crispy beef and it was such a disappointment. Our order took 2 hours to arrive and I tried to call to cancel after a hour and a half but they wouldn't answer my call. When it finally arrived I was happy that it was at least hot but everything was just super sweet. It all just tasted like syrup and that's not how their food has been in the past. The worst part about everything was that there was a piece of metal in the crispy beef and it ended up in my mouth. It's pretty bad when you have a mysterious piece of metal in your food. My husband loves Chinese more than me primarily because most Chinese delivery restaurants are not consistent, their food if not up to par, not much substance & their fried food is usually dark indicating a lack of oil change. All reasons why I have a dislike of Chinese takeout or delivery until I found New Hunan, their on-line menu was easy to navigate & quite plentiful, many choices like extra meat and able to chose your rice; white, fried to include protein choices; beef, chicken, or shrimp. The food was delivered promptly by Uber I believe nonetheless good delivery time. The food was very tasty with good portions and the fried appetizers were light brown which to me let me know that they were freshly fried in either clean oil or in a wok. Overall I can honesty say that this will be our go to place for Chinese delivery from here on out, maybe even weekly!!! That's saying allot from me because I usually only eat Chinese delivery monthly to every 6 weeks. read more

I order from New Hunan all the time, the food is super good. Perfect Chinese food every time. It feels like they're understaffed though. Always the same lady in the front handling what looks like all the calls, pick ups, order in and delivery hand out. She's a very sweet lady. Their delivery is definitely slower but from what I was told it's also due to being understaffed. Would love to see more employees here, I think would increase how already amazing they are. read more
