5 stars. A + review. Ordering take out for Valentines Day 2024 was flawless. The food was fresh and delicious. This was our fourth to-go order in the last year and everything has always been exceptional. Some favorites of ours are the Sizzling Rice soup (although with take-out the rice doesn't "sizzle" when you get home, but who cares it's still amazing) Prawns in Lobster Sauce, Mongolian Beef and the Chow Fun Noodles. This was not my first choice because it had less reviews than other places in Redding. However, the kids wanted Chinese food so decided to drive the extra few miles out of the way. What a serendipitous find! The line was unexpectedly long and after eating I could see why. The employees were moving fast to get folks there food! We had calamari, egg rolls, cream cheese wontons and beef chow mein. The food was tasty , hot and hit the spot. If traveling through or live in Redding I highly recommend New China. read more

Moved to Redding recently and THANKFULLY this is one of the closest restaurants to my house. Good has been exceptional every time, service is very quick and polite for to go order and walk ins. What can I say? I ordered via their website and my food was delivered in less than an hour (they beat their own estimate). The food was very good, just what I wanted. My guests were pleased as well. I am a San Francisco native and I find New China to be an excellent neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Clean. Good value. Lots of free safe parking in the strip mall on Eureka and Buenaventura. The owners have always been kind and polite in the ten years I have been going here. Once in a blue moon..a meal may not be at the same level as normal (perhaps the regular Chef is sick or gone?). The beef is not browned enough for my taste some days...and a little too much cornstarch is added to the sauce on a couple of dishes(Mongolian beef). Otherwise, this is a top-notch place! Every fried dish is lite and crispy and not greasy. Noodles and chicken are top-notch. Great pot stickers. read more

Probably the best Chinese food in Redding. My friends who live in Redding were quite surprised and felt it was the best Chinese food and we have Bay Area roots and know good Chinese food. I was surprised to see they had a very rare to find seafood/veggie dish called Happy Family. Glad to see they had Chow Fun and it solid too. On top of this, the staff was super friendly. Came here on a Friday night to pick up a take out order. The lady at the counter seemed very overwhelmed taking phone orders and walk in to go orders. Even though I called ahead 30 mins I still had to wait 20 mins extra when I arrived. Food was just ok for us. We ordered chicken chow mein, generals chicken and fried rice. Horrible customer service! Rarely do I leave a one star review, but this place is a disaster. We set a reservation for 12 on Christmas Eve with a full days notice, & when setting the reservation they requested we call back 30 min prior to our reservation to confirm our number of guests so that the waiting staff could prepare. We obliged, although it seemed odd as we had already set the reservation. We called 45 minutes in advance to remind them of our party. Three families arrived from separate areas at the time of our reservation, only to be told that they could not fulfill our reservation. After asking to speak to the manager or owner, I was informed that they didn't have time to speak with me. In the middle of receiving the worst service I have ever experienced, I heard a half dozen other customers complaining of the hour plus wait for their take out and others who had not been sat at a table for over an hour as well. At this point I will never be returning to this establishment. read more

It's so nice when you stumble upon a new restaurant and the food is almost better than your favorite go-to place. This was our experience with New China. The food was delicious and the service was warm and inviting. I saw the previous reviews of this place and wouldn't put too much thought in to them. They're all a bunch of haters. Pay more attention the to Yelp elite who give honest reviews. Our experience here was great. Put more We got the house fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, pepper steak, house special mei fun and general chicken. All were GREAT! The service was great. The stars are for the food. I should have taken more stock in the reviews that said the food was hit or miss. I ordered the hot and sour soup and steamed dumplings. My date ordered the broccoli beef and Mongolian beef. I had great hopes for the steamed dumplings, since our server admitted he used to steal them from the kitchen when he was a kid (which I found totally endearing to hear about). They were soggy, and the pot sticker sauce tasted like old vinegar. The hot and sour soup had strands of what I was told were pork, but the texture was more like fat and had very little flavor. I picked them all out of my soup. I'm a big girl, I love food, and I couldn't bring myself to eat it all. I feel bad because I really wanted to like this place, especially with how sweet and thoughtful our server was. My date wasn't super impressed with his dishes, either. I liked the broccoli from his broccoli beef, it was slightly cooked but still crunchy and a little blueish-green in color, which is optimal for not killing the nutrients and flavor. The broccoli was probably my favorite thing of the whole meal. read more

This place definitely deserves 5 stars. Is it the best Chinese food I've had? No. BUT! They were kind, clean, courteous, and quick. The portions were good and the flavor was very enjoyable as well. Personally I will be continuing to order from here whenever I am in the area. The food is great for a night in AND they were appropriately COVID conscious while remaining open. Not awful, but certainly not up to the standards I'm looking for in a Chinese restaurant. First of all, their prices are very high in comparison to others I've been to in the okay year. Second, I didn't like the wrapper they use for their Mu Shu. They're flour based rather than rice based, so they fall apart. The dish itself wasn't bad, but was missing more egg and didn't have the smokey flavor i look for in that dish. My husband enjoyed his curry, but he didn't say much. The pork with vegetables was very good. However, their egg rolls were doughy and the vegetables inside were mushy. I'm not inclined to go back since they got some very basic things wrong. read more

The accompaniment of tasteless chow mein and "fried" rice makes the mystery soup an explosion of unidentifiable flavor. So disappointed in this Taco Bell of Chinese food. Been eating at this restaurant for as long as I can remember. For sure the best Chinese food in Redding California. Not the best Chinese food ever, but for Redding it doesn't get any better. Today when I got off of work I decided to take my girlfriend and I out to eat for lunch. We were very excited to try this for the first time and left extremely disappointed. Not only were we greeted and treated horribly, but hours later I was having extreme stomach pains which caused me to throw up from both ends. The food is good, portions just right, but they double-charged me on my Venmo card. When I showed them on my statement, she was rudely defiant and held firm to, "my books balance. You were not over charged". I showed her my statement, which she had no interest in seeing. After her bad attitude, I just waved goodbye and was done. I thought, "over $26?" Just drove away irritated that I had proof they did, and it didn't matter. So they called back (phone # on receipt), and she said come back and get $. Pride said no, but budget and principles said yes. Went back, and she said, "I didn't over charge you, but my son says give you $ back." Maybe he understands how Venmo works? At one point I believe it was sold or under new management. at that point, the food went downhill we stopped going however, in the last few years, we decided to give it a try again. Don't know if it went back to the old owners or cook, but the food has been outstanding. Their walnut prawns are just delicious. The wonton soup is fabulous, I love their lunch and dinner specials. So I have been going to New China for many years and they had my business from the word go but tonight was a different story, we arrived we were seated and proceeded to put in our order daughter drinks and then we waited on the obligatory eggroll that they give you. So I see the way to go out of the kitchen with an eggroll on a plate and he took it to a table, it sat there for about three or four minutes and then all the sudden the owner yells at him that goes to another table. The owner removes said egg roll and takes it to the kitchen and I watched the waiter grab it up and bring it to me. We were blown away by this and left for another venue.
