As a tourist who drove all the way from San Jose, California to experience shooting, I originally only expected to try out fully automatic rifles and the 50 Cal BMG sniper rifle at a reasonable price. However, during the shooting experience with Josh, I found that he was more like a long - time friend who was also highly professional. He provided patient and expert guidance on how to shoot, and would chat with me, making the whole process much more relaxed and enjoyable. I think the 4 - hour drive here was totally worth it. The shooting range is his private property, and it feels extremely free and relaxing here. We love JOSH, this is coming from a consumer with high expectations. First we went out to shoot as being from California we do not have access to all of the guns we wanted to shoot. We found Josh and was elated we was able to see us with little lead time- as we called many places around and no one had availability! Just spent the morning with Josh at the range and it was great! We had a private lesson and range time for my wife, mother-in-law, and myself. He covered gun safety and let us shoot a wide sample of guns, ranging from revolvers to semi-auto handguns, to rifles. The whole morning was professional, educational, and fun! The range we shot at was deep in the desert mountains, about a mile off the main road. It was a perfect place to shoot. I thought it would be harder to find as there wasn't an address I could plug into Google Maps, but his directions and map were perfect. And the bright orange flags showing where to turn off the highway helped, too. Can't say enough good things about Nevada Gun Rental and Josh. I can't say enough about the professionalism, the concern for safety & education and the attention to each shooter demonstrated by Josh and his crew. They provided an extremely FUN day of shooting for an experienced and a very inexperienced shooter, and they created a well-managed environment on the range that kept everyone & everything safe at all times. During an annual trip to Lake Tahoe last Summer, I booked a "military package" (with some additions & changes) for 2 -- a range of handguns and long guns in use by the military of the US and/or other countries. I'm an experienced shooter and have owned and fired a range of handguns and long guns, my girlfriend had never fired a gun of any time (though SHE was the one who requested I find a place for us to shoot!) I am SO fortunate to have found Nevada Gun Rental. Josh worked with me every step of the way, making sure the range of weapons we'd fire met our needs and would make us happy. I fired 12 - 15 different weapons, some were "old favorites" of mine and some were weapons I'd never fired but wanted to. My girlfriend received a pretty full education in firearms safety, handing and the joy of recreational shooting, starting the day with a .22 pistol and finishing with a 50 cal and grazing her target from 400 yards. Needless to say, Nevada Gu Rental absolutely exceeded our expectations. We're in Tahoe for a week each year, and we've been looking forward to a day of shooting THIS year since our day of shooting ended LAST year. In a past life I spent a fair amount of time on public & private shooting ranges and military & law enforcement training facilities, and I learned to take firearms safety & responsibility VERY seriously. I was pleased and impressed to find that Josh and his crew do likewise -- not surprising, as their military and law enforcement backgrounds have trained them well to be training and working with civilians to have the same respect and focus on firearms responsibility. Of course, the primary reason people engage in recreational shooting is to HAVE FUN...and boy, did we have fun! As I recall we fired a few MORE weapons than the package we'd booked included, and Josh didn't ask for a penny more. I knew Josh had an appointment later in the day, and I was worried we'd be "rushed" through the experience (as often happens at indoor ranges in Las Vegas, where the goal seams to be "get a gun in his/her hand as quickly as possible, get them to fire all their rounds as quickly as possible, repeat until they've fired all the guns they'll be firing and get 'em out the door") The OPPOSITE was the case...Josh and his fellow instructor/rangemaster (we each had a dedicated instructor by our side at all times) were exceedingly patient and informative, making it possible for both of us to truly savor the experience. Five stars doesn't cover it...I've been shooting off and on for over 25 years, everything from little plinker .22s to to semi-auto and full-auto M-16s, a full-auto Thompson ("Tommy Gun") and many others, big and small...and the day we spent just outside Carson City last Summer was one of the BEST days I've ever spent shooting. I can't WAIT to be back in Tahoe later this Summer...for the beauty of the lake and the surroundings, the clean, crisp air, the fun of the casinos...but I'd be lying if I said that another day with Nevada Gun Rental isn't hovering right around the top of the list of reasons I'm looking forward to our trip to Tahoe this year. Josh was very professional from the moment we showed up at the range. He made our time fun, educational, and safe. He answered every question we had and also added pointers to help all of be better shooters. Our family of 5 just returned from a trip to Lake Tahoe. We had intended to go skiing but had to find other activities given the dearth of snow. Instead of skiing, the undisputed highlight of the trip was our morning with Josh and his crew out in the desert at Nevada Gun Rental. The environment was safe but also a bunch of fun. The good natured ribbing between the staff members who were Army and the one Marine who was on-site was a memorable addition to the day. Planned a Bachelor Party with Josh and his crew. The logistics can be a bit odd to sort out, but Josh was extremely responsive and welcoming when it came to questions and planning. It ended up being one of the highlights of the weekend. They were great at making you feel safe and comfortable around the equipment. There were 7 of us, and we all shot the military package. They were extremely accommodating and would sneak in a few extra rounds. Not only were the guns amazing to shoot, but you have to make sure you chat them up and they'll tell you all sorts of great stories like the history of the guns and how they developed. These guys are top notch, friendly and fun to hang out with. We had some expoding targets which gave it a extra boom. They had everything set up, covered the basic rules and away we went. I planned a trip for my boyfriends birthday and lets just say it was a great experience! He has more experience than I do about guns and how to hold them.As for me I have shot a little gun years ago at an indoor range in Milpitas CA. So I get very nervous when I pick up a gun because I'm afraid it will fly out of my hand or I will fly back like in the movies lol. Specially these guns , they are not something you see everyday. When I first made reservations I was a little worried this was not an actual place because there was no address. But it all makes sense when you get there. Its kind of hard to put a address on a place that's in the middle of the desert. But he gave us directions and it was extremely easy to get there and clear flags you cant miss to guide you through. Its about an hour out of downtown Reno , but worth the drive! When we arrive we see the range and a couple of groups that were shooting as well. Josh immediately introduced himself to us and made us feel comfortable. He even let me shoot a couple of guns and I didn't have to pay! I was hesitant because of my fears, but deep down I wanted to. I am so glad I did and so thankful he gave me that experience. It was a rush and I have something I can remember for the rest of my life! I also love the fact that it was a flat rate. No bull, no tax. If it says $200 its $200. No hidden stuff or extra fees. I will definitely tell my friends about this hidden gem! Definitely something everyone should do at least once. I wish I had the guts to shoot some of the more powerful guns like the AR 50. Maybe one day :) read more

I've shot machine guns at the gun store in Vegas and with these guys. Nevada Gun Rental blows the other guys out of the water. For $160 dollars, we shot a freakin Arnold Schwarznegger Island Scene from Commando aresnal of machine guns. The guys who run it are super laid back and helpful. There is even a Ben "How do you like them apples" Affleck doppleganger with an authentic Boston accent. Did I mention exploding f'ing targets. Hell ya. There only $15 bucks extra and well worth the videos. This is a must do activity for all groups of guy friends in the Bay Area. read more

Went here for a bachelor party two weeks ago and it was the right choice. Josh, his son and the rest of the range masters were very accomodating. I scheduled for a party of 13 and only 6 of us were sober enough to make it. Fortunately, Josh had brought out a lot more than just the guns I requested and let the 6 of us fire the whole arsenal all the way up to a .50 cal sniper rifle.
