Dropped in as I am visiting from out of town. Very warm and welcoming staff. Instructor was knowledgeable and detailed. Training partners were respectful and hygienic. 10/10, would recommend. read more

If you want easy, go somewhere else. Renzo Gracie Reno is where warriors are built. Coach Max McGarr is a machine -- Built like a tank, teaches like a tactician. He doesn't just teach; he builds. Leaders. Fighters. Better humans. His coaching style works for newbies and old dogs like me. The vibe is humble but hungry. The talent runs deep -- from fresh white belts to killers on the comp scene. Everyone lifts each other up. Huge plus: mats and gym are extremely clean. Traveling for work and needed to train. Very welcoming gym and the instruction was detailed. If I lived in Reno I would train here. Great spot! read more

We waited quite a while to leave this review, but as parents and educators, we caution against this establishment for children. They are not welcoming of neurodivergent children, they don't have training or education regarding what is appropriate for certain age groups, and they have poor communication skills. We confirmed with other families over the course of a few months in order to avoid leaving a negative review based on one instructor. Perhaps this place is great for adults. We don't believe it's healthy for kids. read more

We started taking our son here when they first opened a few years back. Unfortunately we had to take off 18 months due to covid but we were able to freeze our account during that time with zero problems:) We've been back a little over a month now and I cannot say enough good things about this place! It's grown immensely in our absence and for good reason because it's a great school with great instructors. Coach Tim is who teaches the kids classes. He is very skilled, hands on and thorough. Consistently helping the children learn the moves during the training drills and all throughout class. I am not yet familiar with all the assistant coaches but they've all been patient and helpful as well. Kids/teens classes are M-F 4:30-5:30 and 9:30-1030 Saturdays. They also offer early morning classes for adults starting at 5:30am, 11am and 6pm. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great jiu jitsu school for either themselves or their children. The building itself is very clean with a large open mat space, changing room, cubbies and has plenty of parking available. Thanks Renzo Gracie! Keep kicking butt (pun intended) read more

Max is by far "The Best BJJ coach" in a 300 mile radius. I have been doing martial arts since 84 and exclusively grappling since 2006. I have trained all over the US and across the world. Max and his coaches are elite. You will learn, you will improve and you will grow while training with Max. read more

Been bringing my child since April of last year. I love how they've recently divided the children's class so the little littles get more "beginner" training. All the coaches are amazing and so patient! read more

I had to take some time off for Covid but have recently returned to training. The school is better than ever. The training is top-tier, the environment feels safe, everything feels clean, and the people are great. The school has developed a core group of competitors and those guys are always fantastic (and challenging) to train with. Max and Tim are still excellent at teaching and coaching. I occasionally am lucky to take a class with Vince, who's a highly skilled teacher and somehow packages knowledge in a way that really sticks in my brain. The school recently added Elias as an instructor. Elias is super knowledgeable on Jiu-jitsu and often has a different spin on teaching techniques. There's a handful of BJJ schools closer to my house, but it's worth it to drive across town to train with the crew at Renzo. I'm convinced that Renzo Reno is the best place in our area to learn jiu-jitsu. read more

Great safe atmosphere to learn world class techniques from world class instructors, meet and bond with great people and grow your self not just physically but also mentally. . Ages range from 4 yrs old to 60+ yrs young. Some of the best people I've ever met in my life where through these doors and on these mats. Jiu Jitsu as a beginner is like witnessing magic. Max and his wizards do a great job fitting the pieces of the puzzle together in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. My family of 4 (two teens--one in adult classes, one in kids') started classes about a month ago and we're loving it. It's the intellectual challenge of chess while increasing strength, mobility and cardio performance. We've found BJJ to be a great compliment to Yoga and climbing to round things out. This is a clean and modern facility in a great location, it has great lineage and pedigree, and plenty of chances for competition and advancement. Check the ego at the door, bring your good vibes and you're guaranteed a challenge and some fun. Great job Renzo Gracie Reno, we look forward to many more hours on the mats. read more

If you want top notch training with great people this is the spot. I have not felt an environment like this since my high school basketball team. Max, Tim and Vince are superb teachers on top of being great people. Can't say enough good things about Renzo Reno, stop in and give it a try, you will not regret it. read more

5 stars doesn't seem to be enough for what Renzo Gracie Reno truly represents. Max, the head instructor, teaches some of the highest level, most effective, and universally applicable concepts in Jiu Jitsu to people of every skill level. He is attentive, approachable, and not only keeps his students safe with the techniques he teaches but he maintains the atmosphere of the gym as well. Each of the other instructors all top notch, Elias, Vince, and Tim bring unique attributes of the game with the same level of detail, attentiveness, and proficiency. Every class is packed with top level instruction. If you are new to Jiu Jitsu, like I was when I started at this gym, I cannot emphasize enough of how great this gym is for new practitioners. The vibe in the gym is welcoming, no ego, safe and often time we find ourselves after class hanging out and catching up on new techniques or life off the mats. If you are experienced... THIS IS LIKE NO OTHER TEACHING YOU WILL RECEIVE. Max's system, experitice, and breadth of knowledge comes from almost 2 decades teaching and learning from the best at the Renzo Gracie Academy in New York with both Renzo Gracie and John Danaher. If you have kids... They simply need Jiu Jitsu. It builds confidence, friendship, and the ability to navigate difficulties in life. If you are a parent you want to have you kids learn from this program. If is safe, fun, and proven to be effective in local competitions. Each time I see the kids leaving class they are all smiling. If you want a gym that is safe, has awesome people in it, and instruction that objectively is the best, this is the gym for you. read more

I cannot say enough positive things about Renzo Gracie Reno. I went from the couch to training a little over a month ago with zero grappling experience. I was obviously nervous about this new fitness adventure but the owners Stephanie and Max were super welcoming and made the whole experience fun and motivating. I'm now down several pounds, my cardio is better and I'm having a ton of fun! Regardless if you are already an established Jiu Jitsu practitioner or brand new to he sport I couldn't recommend this place more. read more

Sure, the place is clean. Yes, there is plenty of brand new fuji designed mat space. Its well appointed layout allows lots of natural light, and there is a changing room with lockers and a bunch of wooden cubbies for gear storage. These features are nice, but thats not where the REAL value lies in RGA Reno. The head instructor comes from RGA New York: arguably the top academy in the country. He trained and coached there for 15 years and produced countless high level jiujitsu practitioners. The system that Max McGarr teaches is well thought out from beginning to end. The concepts and progressions of movements are taught safely and fit well together. The material presented to students is well curated, appropriate to their level and administered by a focused and present coach. see past the awesome facility and check out Renzo Gracie Academy Reno read more

I can't say enough great things about this academy. The greatest aspect of this academy to me personally is the community. The second you walk in you are part of the "Renzo Gracie Fam" and welcomed with open arms. The instruction is top notch and during live rounds there is no "ego." If you are looking to get into BJJ or looking for a new academy, I highly recommend checking RGA. read more

10/10 !!!! Great gym. Strong grapplers. Coach is well spoken and extremely detailed in technique along with being hands on and super helpful. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. 3 slots for classes fits any schedule: morning/noon/evening. Would recommend for any one in the Reno area that interested in training. Honestly can't say enough good things about this place read more

Renzo Gracie Reno is my home away from home The comrdarie between the instructors and students is always positive and uplifting.

I had an awesome drop in session with Vince. His details, sequences, ability and passion for teaching was excellent. I look forward to going back whenever I'm in town! read more

I cannot speak highly enough about Max, Stephanie, and the rest of the team at the Renzo Gracie Academy, Reno. I have been attending the academy for the last four years and am truly impressed with the level of skill not only amongst the staff, but also among the students in attendance. Max teaches an innovative form of jiu jitsu which unique to the Reno area and has surrounded himself with a world class coaching staff that are all active competitors/ champions. Whether interested in self defense, fitness, martial arts, or high level competition, this academy is worth your investment and you will not be disappointed. read more

Renzo Gracie Reno is a world class jiujitsu gym. I've trained at many places over the years and the knowledge transfer and focus here is off the charts. Max McGarr is a walking encyclopedia of jiujitsu and trained/coached with/under some of the best ever (Renzo Gracie and John Daniher to name a few). The gym is both laid back and intense which makes things fun. The level of talent in any given class is high and constantly getting higher. The culture is competitive and everyone pushes each other but also takes very good care of each other which is extremely important. Very grateful to be part of the Renzo Gracie Reno family. read more

Renzo Gracie Reno is by far the best jiu jitsu gym that we have had the pleasure of partaking in the 9 years that my daughter has been training. We have been here for 3 years now and my daughter goes to the kids and adult classes. Tim, the kids coach is very attentive, PATIENT, understanding and always professional. Max Mc Garr, our Professor is all that and a bag of chips! They both teach in a manner that keeps my 13 year old engaged and wanting to learn more! We love everything this gym is putting out! read more

It was a no brainer for me to choose Renzo Gracie Reno. I know I was a huge fan of Renzo Gracie and Danaher's death squad before meeting coach McGarr, but after meeting the Professor and after training few classes, I understood why it was such a no brainer for me. The fine details and techniques he has shared with me so far has already been game changing for me and I am so excited to see where my jiu jitsu journey takes me here at Renzo Gracie Reno. Soo grateful that coach McGarr chose Reno, NV to open up his school.. now we have a chance to learn from one of the best instructors from one of the top competition schools in the world. Can't thank Coach Max and his wife Stephanie enough for being so kind and making it all possible. read more

Work had me up in Reno and I stumbled across the Renzo Gracie academy. I went in for a drop in and was blown away with the gym. It was the cleanest gym I've ever been to and the instructors were amazing. I spent the first day with Vince at an open mat and he showed me a few things that were really next level. Then I had the privilege of meeting Max and Stephanie and they made me feel like I was family and part of the team even knowing I was just visiting Reno. Max's instructing is beyond what most gyms provide and his dedication to his students was obvious from the first minute I watched the interactions. I've been doing Jiu-Jitsu now for about 7 years and how he broke everything down was so amazing and I would highly recommend if you live in the area to definitely give Max an opportunity to show you why you should train with him. Thank you again Max, Steph and Vince for the amazing hospitality and hope to see you guys again soon! read more
