Nerai was a very elegant restaurant, slightly pricey but you know that going in. A great spot for a nice date night. I went with 2 of my friends who ordered the fish and shrimp pasta. The fish was very bony but yummy and the pasta was filling (per them). The risotto pasta was delicious with a pesto flavor and very creamy. The falafel was yummy and not dry at all. For the appetizers, the such union chips came in a big platter. They were a little oily but still had a good crunch. I was lucky enough to be treated to a 5 course dinner accompanied with wine pairings at Nerai on Monday - the experience was superb. Nerai is a classy Greek spot in midtown east with an atmosphere that could lend itself to an upscale business lunch, a romantic dinner, or anything in between. We were started with a phenomenal, fresh greek salad complemented perfectly with a drizzle of olive oil. Next, a dish of tender octopus, served with santorini fava and caramelized onions. For the secondi (is this term appropriate in Greece?), a lobster pasta with squid ink linguini was served. This dish was a crowd favorite - the portion size of lobster was generous and the pasta was skillfully al dente. Our main course followed: a lamb chop with glazed carrots and oregano jus. This was my favorite dish of the night, as a loyal carnivore. The lamb was cooked medium rare and melted in diners' mouths. The savory carrots were accented nicely by the jus. Lastly, a dessert of pavlova and white chocolate mousse. With an assortment of berries and meringue perched atop a light and airy mousse, the dessert was an excellent finale to an overall excellent dinner. Service was excellent - wine glasses were frequently topped off and the owner was eager to answer any questions. After our first course, we were treated to an informational speech about the vineyard from which the wines we were drinking were sourced. The staff was clearly very passionate and knowledgeable, traits which were evidenced by the fact that the wine pairings were all perfect throughout the meal. Multiple waiters came by to ask what wines or cocktails we were going to order. When ordering the food, the waiter keep pushing us to order sides or appetizers. Then at dessert, two waiters came by with dessert menus -- one after we already declined the first one. It was either really passive aggressive/ aggressive or the waiters are really disorganized. I had made reservations around the corner at another restaurant, but upon my arrival their doors were locked and I discovered that my reservation had been canceled several hours earlier. Thank god for Nerai, the lovely staff here saved my business meeting. My colleague and I were seated without a reservation and they were very gracious allowing us to place the last order before they closed their kitchen for the afternoon right at 2:30pm. I just wanted to say thank you to the host and to the staff who stayed an extra 30/45 minutes to make up for the mistake made by the "competing" restaurant around the corner. The food was delicious, the wine was excellent, and the service was unparalleled. I brought my gf here for Valentine's Day because tiktok said it was good... and it was really good. My favorite dish, among all the great dishes we had, was the lobster pasta. We had a great dinner here. They have a few tables outside and we sat at one of those, which was great. The tables are close together so we made friends with the people sitting next to us. I had the Persephone cocktail, which was very refreshing. We got the spicy feta and tzatziki dips to start and they were delicious. Very well made. Nerai was quite a fancy place to go for dinner on a Wednesday work night, so I would definitely consider this to be upscale. However, the food we ordered was amazing and well worth the fancy dinner occasion on a random night. As an appetizer, my friend and I shared the Red and Yellow Watermelon Salad which was a very light and refreshing dish to start with. The yellow watermelon was less sweet than the red, but getting yellow watermelon was interesting enough as I had never seen this before. It had a light white balsamic-honey vinaigrette which did not overpower any of the other flavors in the dish, such as the feta and the cucumber. Overall a great starter to order. I ordered the Papia Moussaka, which is a pan seared duck breast with lentils and fig jus. It also came with duck moussaka as the "side". When I read this on the menu, I was immediately intrigued by the pairing of fig jus and duck. I had had a cherry compote with duck before in Los Angeles, so I thought it would have a similar taste and effect. Let me tell you, it did. The fig jus was not super thick, but thick enough that when I took a piece of the duck breast and picked up some of the fig jus, it covered the whole piece ready for me to eat. The idea of a sweet sauce paired with duck is a match made in heaven. The lentils added a salty contrast to the sweet fig, allowing me to cleanse my palate. The absolute cherry on top was the side of moussaka, one of my favorite Greek dishes. I normally can't order a whole moussaka because I am unable to finish it, but its small size on this plate was the perfect portion to enjoy the creamy, duck Greek specialty. My friend ordered the Pastitsada and he left no piece of pasta or meat on his plate so clearly he really enjoyed his dish just as much as I did mine. Overall, Nerai is a wonderful upscale Greek restaurant that I would highly recommend for a special occasion or when you simply want to treat yourself. In one word: overpriced We tried a few appetizers. They were all just okay. Nothing special. In particular, I thought that the octopus was mediocre, so I was surprised by all of the positive reviews. The biggest disappointment though was the lamb. This just wasn't very flavorful... the lamb itself didn't taste very strong, and also it seemed pretty underseasoned. At $44, I felt that it was a major rip off. The waiter recommended the bread pudding for desert, and this basically was in line with the preceding courses: very average, and overpriced. First, there was the attitude from the waiter, unnecessary and unappreciated. Cocktail - weak and not an ounce of alcohol. We started with the octopus appetizer and it was one of the worst I've had. Chewy and tough, didn't smell or taste fresh. It had so much sediment in it, it felt like I got bits and pieces of rock under my teeth, not good for your teeth and fillings. My friend was ok with his salmon, but I ordered the Dover sole at $72 thinking it will be amazing and will blow my mind - instead it tasted like a previously frozen, defrosted, soggy, falling apart piece of tilapia. Either I don't know my fish well or I got a piece of tilapia and got charged $72 for Dover sole. Dessert (baklava) was also a disappointment. More attitude from the waiter after giving him 20% tip on this outrageously expensive meal. No water refills. I'm not sure why this place has so many good reviews, perhaps they're bogus reviews. I found just about everything about the food disappointing. Super satisfied with my visit, the service, and my food at Nerai! We were celebrating a friends birthday...started the day off at the Spa and headed over to Nerai for our reservation. For the main - my 2 friends order the Lavraki, I opted for the Kakavia, and another friend had Octopus, with Lemon potatoes. We all know we eat with our eyes first right? So when the Lavraki came out, I was already excited. It looked delicious! I was bit saddened I didn't order it. Anyway, my Kakavia arrived. Very simple presentation, but I was all in. I began eating and it was great. There were a few pieces that I didn't enjoy and Greg resolved it for me. He brought me out the Lavraki and I was in heaven! Soooo good! We dined here last night and started with the Traditional Tzatziki, Hummus & spicy Feta Spreads, a Greek Salad and the AMAZING Saganaki pan fried kefalograviera cheese with fresh lemon. YUM! I loved my Falafel salad and side of steamed Spinach, mister polished off the Seafood Orzotto, and our friends enjoyed the tasty Dover Sole and succulent Lamb Chops. We chose a delicious bottle of red to pair with dinner but I can't remember the name of it. Though we sat inside because of the humidity, I would definitely opt for their outdoor seating on a cooler, drier day because the set up is so lovely. The service was attentive and top-notch. Came here for lunch on a Friday at around 1:20pm. My friend and I didn't have a reservation but the wait was short (~5 minutes). Most of the customers were heading out at that point (mostly business professionals heading back to work), so we were able to be seated at a spacious corner table. There was a Prix Fixe option for $39 (Meze & Lunch Specialty) or $49 (Raw Bar or Meze & Entree), but we chose to go à la carte instead. So we ordered the Fluke Marinato ($18) from the Raw Bar selection to share, the Organic Chicken Skewer ($26) from the Lunch Specialties for me, and the Salmon Burger ($24) from the Lunch Specialties for my friend. After we ordered and our waitress took our menus, she asked if we would also like to have some spreads for the table. We obliged, but when the check arrived at the end of our meal, I realized that her offer was her way of slyly adding more to the bill. She charged us $20 for the Traditional Spreads found under the Meze selection. Even worse was that she did not charge us for the Prix Fixe price even though the new addition should have counted towards the Meze & Lunch Specialty Prix Fixe option. This type of behavior by our waitress was echoed later in our dining experience, too. When it came time to order dessert, my friend and I said we would just like to have two cappuccinos, but our waitress frowned at us and said we must have their house-made baklava (Saragli, Desserts Menu, $14). We told her that we were too full for dessert, but she said that it is just two bites and that we must absolutely try it. My friend, who did not want to continue the back and forth, gave in. I forgot to take a picture of the dessert because my mood was so bitter at this point. What was originally supposed to be a relaxing and light meal ended up being an very expensive and uncomfortable experience. The good food is the only reason I did not tick off more stars. read more

Wow! I went here for a work lunch with a colleague, and we were both thrilled with the food and the experience. During COVID it's hard to find a restaurant that not only has outdoor seating, but seating that is beautifully decorated and further off the street. Nerai meets all the above! With fans circulating to keep you cool on a hot summer day it really is a wonderful atmosphere. The food was also to die for! We had the trio of dips (phenomenal!), tuna tartar, and the Greek salad to start. All were delicious, fresh, and gave me nostalgia for my time in spent in Greece. For an entrée I had the short ribs, which were incredibly flavorful, but quite heavy over a bed of orzo in red sauce. I think it would have benefited from a lighter side. The only minor negative I'd add is that we did feel a bit rushed. So I'd recommend spacing out your order of appetizers and entrees to give you some more time.
