Dr. Yu is very kind and although the staff has changed throughout the years , everyone seems accommodating ! The office is clean and the selections are great as well as priced great too ! They offer top brands and styles for both glasses and sunglasses and there is always someone asking you if you have been helped . Dr. Yu is very generous and will give you new contacts and a case for your contact lens exam. It's been a while sinceI have gotten my routine eye exam and my contact lens exam. I was running out of my contact lens so I needed them ASAP. I called first to figure out the pricing. I was worried that they were going to charge me A LOT. I'm a recently graduated college student and definitely need an exam that would be of low cost. I called them, and the girl I talked to was VERY informative. I told her what insurance I had, right then and there, she was able to tell me that my exam would be covered by my Molina insurance and that I would have to pay out of pocket ranging from $40-70 depending on my prescription. I've been calling optometrist around Mira Mesa all morning to find the best deal. JUST over the phone, I was very satisfied with the help and $40-70 for exam IS SUPER affordable.My last exam cost me way more than that. She was able to schedule my appointment for the same day. At the appointment, it was amazing! There was no delay and I was seen right away. Dr. Yu is perfect and she is so patient with me especially during the contact lens fitting. I went here from 2019 to this year for contacts and glasses. Service was good until this past year. Ordered glasses in January and had to call 3 times over the course of 6 weeks to finally get them. Made the mistake of going here for my annual exam. Spent just a few minutes doing the exam, in which she reduced my vision power in each eye differently and I wear multi focal contacts. Went back 3 times physically to the store to tell her that the new prescription was impairing my ability to read and to work! She did not care. She refused to change my prescription back to what it was. Then she went on vacation. Had to spend $125 to go to a different optometrist so that I could get contacts that allowed me to see again. read more

A lot has changed ever since the pandemic and many businesses are struggling with this "new normal" of face masks, social distancing, and sanitation practices. I was hesitant to visit my eye doctor but I was down to my last pair of contact lenses and didn't really have much of a choice. Booking my appointment over the phone was easy because Dr. Yu's assistants are very polite and professional. When I got to the clinic, it was immaculately clean and I was the only patient they were attending to of course because of social distancing. As soon as I got inside, George sanitized my hands and checked my temperature. We then proceeded with the tests to check on how my eyes were doing which were thorough. They even have a camera that takes a picture of the back of your eyes which I thought was pretty cool. Dr. Yu then does my eye exam to see what contact lenses would work best for me. This will always be my go-to optometry. Everyone here is always so nice & helpful! It's also really easy to get an appointment in! I called and was able to get in later the same day! My visits never take too long and I never have to wait to be seen by the doctor. Many other places even though you have an appointment you'd still have to wait 30mins-1hour! The visit itself was quick and thorough! I came in for my annual exam and contact lens fitting. My prescription decreased as well; which was pretty cool to know. Through my insurance I paid around $70 for my contact lens fitting! I usually order my contacts from this location as well, they usually come in around 2 days. I also appreciate that I get trial lenses as well. Overall my appointments here are always quick, nice, and efficient. This place sucks. The optometrist and the staff here are extremely rude and pushy. I came here for a visit and all I wanted was to use what was offered through my insurance plan. The doctor kept harassing me about purchasing more than what I wanted. She was very negative about everything. She kept saying that I would eventually have to come back and purchase more and would waste more time. I do not appreciate places such as Neovision that solely operate to rip people off. Phone number listed on Google Places is incorrect and rings through to a busy tone. Correct # is listed on their website. Once I got through to schedule an appointment there was some confusion regarding my vision insurance. I wasn't in the systems that they tried looking me up on so I asked if "out of state" insurance was a problem as I have BCBS from another state which I'm certain my vision insurance is provided by. In response to that they said "this has never happened" and that my appointment would not be covered by insurance. Sorta went in a couple of loops in the conversation with things going nowhere + no clear resolutions. Canceled the appointment due to poor experience on the phone as it was clear I wasn't going to be covered if I wasn't "in their systems." Would have appreciated a clear "we don't accept your insurance" vs. the confusion that ensued. read more

I used to come here for my CRT lenses because it was close to my childhood home and there's no optometrist on the east coast (where I now live) that prescribes CRT. But my last experience was terrible so I stopped going. I came in for my annual checkup, got a new pair of CRT lenses ordered. Within a week I could feel that something was wrong, so I came back to Dr. Yu to adjust. She told me to wear it a bit longer because there is an adjustment period. I told her my concern was that I had to leave soon for the east coast. She told me to just send it back if it doesn't feel better after a month. Once I went back to the east coast, where I continued under her instructions and didn't feel any better, so I sent it back. That was when she told me that she wouldn't be able to accept it because it was after the 30-day return period. I had just paid over a thousand dollars for these lenses that was now useless to me! This sounded fishy because she was the one who told me to keep on with the pair she prescribed me for a longer period. So now even though I have moved back to San Diego, I'm no longer a patient here. read more

They said it will take up to 2-3weeks for him to get his glasses.We've waited enough and we didn't heard from them we gave them a call. My brother has been going to Neovision for years and always had a great experience! While I haven't needed glasses/contacts myself, I thought it would be wise to get a checkup just to make sure everything was okay, since it was only a $10 checkup fee. Naturally, I went to see Dr. Yu as well, and have had only positive experiences! Setting up an appointment was super easy - I called to make an appointment the day before my checkup, and was easily accommodated on a weekday right after 5. When I got into the office, I don't think I waited more than 5-7 minutes or so, and used my time perusing the different frame options - which they have plenty of! Best of all with the options, they have the frames organized very well, with particular sections accommodating different insurance options. The actual checkup was also very easy and smooth. Without needing glasses/contacts, I haven't had a need for many optometrist visits, and sometimes get a little freaked out by the air things...but Dr. Yu is a pleasure to work with! She'll chat with me throughout the whole process, making it so easy for me as a patient! There are a few people saying they felt rushed in the reviews below, and I personally didn't feel that was the case at all. The appointments I've had have been fairly quick because Dr. Yu is very efficient and runs a very smooth office. I'm a dental student and whenever I've asked her to explain more of the details of my changes throughout the years, she is thorough in making sure I walk out with an understanding of my needs and what my options are (since my eyes are no longer 20/20, but not in dire need of contacts). The frames I've ordered in the past (and also regular sunglasses) were a very reasonable price, and convenient to pick up! I choose to try Neovision because of the reviews and pictures I saw on yelp, and was not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the office was clean and had a large selection of frames. The process of me being there moved quickly which was nice because no one wants to spend more time then they have to at any doctors appointment. But I felt that I was fully taken care of and any questions or concerns I had were addressed fully and completely without the feeling of being rushed. DO NOT GO HERE!!! The optometrist is RUDE, & doesn't know how to do her job. Went for an eye exam to get glasses. Was super excited about getting my glasses, as soon as I put them on everything was magnified and was not comfortable for my vision. I called back and was asked to come back so they can look at my prescription. She put glasses on me and tried to adjust them but none of them felt right. So rather than her trying to see what's best for me she walks out the room(VERY RUDLY) & tells me she's going to just refund my money and everything, I can just go to another eye doctor. She was VERY RUDE, NOT ACCOMMODATING to her patients needs. Do not recommend going here. read more

I first came to Neovision Optometry over 10 years ago, and even though I've long since moved away from San Diego, I always make sure to come here for my annual checkup when I'm back visiting family. When I first came here, Dr. Yu recommended that I try out CRT lenses. When I started the process of wearing them, she was extremely helpful over the course of several visits to make sure that my eyes were adjusting properly. It worked out great, and ever since then I've been happily wearing CRT lenses at night, and being completely free of glasses or contacts during the day. Every year, I go in for my annual checkup and Dr. Yu adjusts my prescription as needed and orders me a new pair. The office is very responsive and friendly, and I never need to wait long when I arrive for my appointment. The appointment itself is always efficient, and I always end up with a new pair of lenses that lasts me for the year without any problems. I've never had any issues with my insurance either (I have VSP). Overall, I'm a very satisfied long-time customer of Neovision Optometry. I went to this optometry location for the convenience around a year ago, and I will not be coming back. My experience was not good. I felt the eye exam with the optometrist herself was very rushed without leaving me enough time to ask questions about my eyesight. It didn't feel like the doctor cared too much about the service being given but rather she just wanted to quickly get through every patient. Additionally, I was suggested to take a look at a few frames but didn't like them too much. I sensed the pressure the doctor and the receptionist were giving me when they kept advertising the frames to me even though I said I would like to think about it. read more

*BRACE YOURSELF, LONG REVIEW* I wish I would've read the reviews before I decided to come here. Seems like the only customers/patients here that are treated well are family friends who have been bringing their children, and their children's children over the last 10 or so years. Anyhow, I lost my glasses on vacation. Needed to get a new pair. Nothing crazy or fancy just a basic pair of glasses. I literally just googled a place who took my insurance. Also called to confirm that they took my insurance. Scheduled an appointment for the same day. I walk in and I'm greeted by a younger Hispanic lady. Fairly new I'm guessing, but she was nice, very helpful on which frames my insurance covered. Helped me choose ones that fit my face perfectly. BUT the optometrist, jeeez why is this woman so mean?! First I'm sitting here waiting and she's literally yelling at the receptionist in front of customers. Telling her "don't forget to mention this or that, or how much it's going to cost, or what blah blah blah means" she continued on and said "why did I hire you if I'm going to have to do your job, you should know to answer these questions" okay right, she probably should know. But did you have to call her out like that in front of everyone? Then the optometrist proceeds to call me in for my exam. It was awkward, she just had this "hurry up and get out" tone and body language. Finished that, went to the front to process everything. She comes out and tells me "you have to pay $$ (don't remember how much) for your exam and another $20 for your frames" uhhh?? Why? You guys said my insurance covers all of this. Then she says "well what if it doesn't go through? We can bill you now and then if the insurance goes through we'll refund you" I was still confused, I asked her (the optometrist) why wouldn't it go through? And she told me "well I don't know how long it's been since u billed your insurance for your last exam" I told her its been over 2 years since my last exam and I didn't even use my insurance I just went to Costco and paid cash. she continues to push me and say ARE YOU SURE? We will refund you, I didn't care bout the refund. But I specifically chose this place because they said my insurance would cover it. I was super annoyed at this point, I only put up with them because I really needed glasses if I was going to be driving around and stuff. If I was going to have to pay for my exam. I could've went to Costco or LensCrafters like I did for my last pair. Anyways, continuing on. That's not even the worse part, the optometrist walks into the back. Now the Hispanic and older Asian lady at the reception area was just telling me oh we'll put the order in. And if your insurance goes through we'll go ahead and process your glasses if it doesn't we can bill you later. It's just going to take a week or two longer than if u were to pay now. I told her, yeah sure that's fine. THEN the damn optometrist comes out AGAIN, and goes "YOURE STILL HERE? Go ahead and bill her later but she won't get her glasses for two months!" Both receptionist stayed quiet with this scared look on their faces. I was like REALLY B**ch, I've had enough patience for this, I'm better than that to cause a scene. But she made me so mad i took a copy of my prescription & I left. A week later they called me and told me my glasses were ready to be picked up. Like okayyyy.... All that trouble. I also used to work in the optical industry for over six years during which I have dealt with many optometrist and I can say from experience that she is thorough in her professional approach and thoughtful with patient care. However, the management ( middle age Chinese lady) and the optometrist ) are a handful. Always pushing to try to make a sale or to upgrade something. Bottom line, I can't image that they have been in business as long as they have. Management here also yelled at the employee in front of customers. Extremely unprofessional and uncalled for. So recently, I found out that I am farsighted. I was getting frequent headaches. Plus, I'm leaving my current job soon, so I decided to make an appointment. I found this optometrist through the VSP webiste. Through the exam, my doctor concluded I am farsighted. Today I got my glasses and I am satisfied. They took a little over a week to arrive. Plus, they are transition lenses, so I can replace my sunglasses with them. Hopefully. Overall, I recommend this place because it is very small, personal and homey. I changed to this eye doctor at recommendation from a friend. My first experience was good. My second pair of glasses has the lenses pop out constantly. I took them in and they popped the lenses in and handed them back. The lenses popped out as they handed them to me. Now I go back again today with the same issue and they are closed and their voicemail does not accept messages! I will not be going back. read more

I've been coming here for 3 years now and have been generally happy about the service I've received. There used to be this rude beezie working the front desk but I'm glad she's gone now. The current staff members are great. Dr. Yu is pretty efficient, her exams are fast and I sometimes question whether she's being thorough enough. I haven't had any major issues with my eyes and my visits are just for exams and updating prescriptions. My mom on the other hand has been having vision problems, but Dr. Yu hasn't recommended a specialist or anything, which makes me question her judgments at times. (2nd opinion is definitely needed). The last time I went, I was seen by a Dr. who was filling in as Dr. Yu was on vacation, she did a much more thorough job and was really careful about the exam, taking her time to make sure I got the right prescriptions. The selection of frames here is decent for such a small establishment, I appreciate the fact that they work within my insurance limit and I there are lots of frames for under my limit of $150. I ordered a pair of glasses and less than a week later they arrived and were perfect, I can see much better now. My mom was able to get a pair of sunglasses with her insurance. They have sales once in a while with discounted frames. I had some delay with getting a pair of trial contacts, they ran out of the prescription I needed and had to just order a trial pair for me. That took a while, I mean I appreciate the fact that I get a free pair of contacts but the delay was a bit annoying since I had a limited stay in SD. All in all decent experiences here and no complaints yet. The place is not too busy and you can just walk-in with no appointments, which is pretty good if you're in a rush. read more

The staff of Neovision Optometry is very unprofessional, with bad phone etiquette, and not very accommodating service. They failed to explain anything and looked confused when I asked them questions, so I left even more confused than when I arrived. The doctor seems to try to get as much money as she possibly can and didn't give me my prescription even though she told me she would give me a full estimate for contact lens. It was a real hassle to eventually get it from her, probably because she didn't want me buying glasses anywhere else. Even with my insurance, the frame prices are so inflated, I could get the exact frames for a cheaper price elsewhere without insurance. The doctor's contact lens consultation is very poor. She doesn't explain the process but expects you to know at follow up appointments. When you do something wrong, she gives you attitude and talks down to you. If you want to be patronized, this is the place to go. I, however, will be changing optometrists right away. Edit: I have had a new optometrist since this experience and he's my best friend. It was crazy but at my first eye exam with my current optometrist he was appalled at how ill fitting my CRT lenses from Jean were and saw that they were too uncomfortable for me to wear. I've been going to this place for over 10 years! The office is always very clean and organized. The employees are especially helpful and succinct. I found it always to be easy to get an appointment. And if I was on time the whole exam process was pretty swift. I've gotten glasses, soft contacts, and hard contacts here! I've never had a problem with any of the things I've bought. Every time I walk in Carrie and who ever else is working always say hi and make you feel very welcome. I never feel rushed or taken advantage of. And Dr. Yu is by far the best eye doctor I have ever had. She cares about your eyes and won't let you leave there unhappy. I never have to wait long for new contacts or glasses. This place was terrible! I just looked them up online cuz I was new to the area. I got ridiculous service there. No one ever knew what they were doing. The doctor spent about 5 minutes with me, and then when I asked her what my prescription, as she was pushing me out the door, she said, "You said it was 5.75. Isn't that what you told me?" She basically went off my old Rx and didn't even bother to really re-diagnose. Then the office didn't order my contacts when they were supposed too. After 2 weeks, without a call, I called them, and OOPS.. they were never ordered. Then when I come to pick them up, she hadn't even written out my Rx, so I had to remind them that I needed it. Then, to make matters worse, her staff goes into her office to have her sign it, and she uses a pen that is out of ink. Her staff goes back in, she sends them away by saying it was fine. I basically, had to demand that she sign the Rx over, since it was BLANK!! I have never had such a bad experience with an optometrist office before. STEER CLEAR of this place... They have no idea what they are doing. read more
