Tasty taqueria! Stopped here with my sister for lunch today. There were about 8 people waiting for food around noon--always a good sign! My sister got an order of birria tacos and I got an al pastor torta. The wait was short, the service was friendly, and the food was delish. I think this place has the best birria tacos I've tried in town. This was my first visit and it surely won't be my last. Next time, I'm looking forward to trying a burrito! read more

Terrible food ""If your gonna use a Microwave I suggest you master it" .I will not come back here for multiple reasons and I have lived in the neighborhood for going on 12 years! Food burnt in a microwave"OMG" and when I called to communicate the issue the other half treated me like an idiot questioning me like I have motive that ridiculous! I had a hard time finding a restaurant open for dinner on New Years Day, but it was worth it to finally land on Nelson's for my takeout order. From their friendliness on the phone to how welcome I felt during pickup, everything was first rate. Genuinely great customer service goes a long way with me, as well. I'm especially happy with a restaurant when the food is great to match. I'm a sucker for neon and a beautiful bar, so I loved their casual retro glam decor. I've lived in the neighborhood where this Taqueria is located. Nelson and his crew have consistently been so great and reliable for delicious Mexican cuisine. This review is for staff and customer service. As sometimes can happen at even the best dining establishments, we did not have a good dining experience. Indoor seating was crazy cold - felt like that if they had a working heater, it was only turned on right as they unlocked the doors for dinner service. There were also a couple problems with our meal. They were quick to try and fix things and make sure we were satisfied. They were also proactive with adjusting the bill - even though we didn't ask them too. More restaurants should give this kind of customer service. What a great surprise. We had never visited any of the other establishments that took up residence in this space but it's so cute! Bright and cozy, but could use a bit better heat on this cold night. The margaritas were amazing, lots of options. I chose the habanero and my husband had the coconut. Both were great. I had fish tacos, tasty but a little fish-sticky. I love myself some Street tacos. Nelsons was the first Taqueria I ever went to when I first arrived here in Eugene. I've tried several others, but yet I always end up back at Nelsons. The food is authentic. The help is fantastic stop and spend time to take a little nibble on a couple of the picnic benches that they have outback. You won't regret it. I was not impressed with their food. I got a wet burrito and it had a really strange taste to it. I would not recommend this place.

It has been a long time since I have found a really good street taco in Eugene, especially one that can make a really good adobada. These are legit one of the best I have had in a long time. I don't think I would go any where else in town for adobada again. I will have to try his other flavors of meat. I tried the beans, and rice along with the taco plate and they are great as well. I have been to Nelson's four times now and it occurred to me today that the experience is always marred by something. The food itself is good, although it is not better or worse than many of the fine options available in Eugene (Nelson's uses the smallest corn tortillas I have ever had, however). But the problem comes in with the overall experience. This visit, I came and got some food for my aging father and he wanted nachos. When getting the food I asked if there were utensils and napkins and was told "everything is in the bag". Well, that meant two napkins, no utensils, and what was to become a huge mess. My father tried to navigate a pile of nacho chips and a congealed mass of meat and cheese all on top, morphed into something that could not be eaten by hand. We didn't discover this until we found a nice place at a nearby park. We then had to pack up and go try to find utensils and napkins, this for someone with walking challenges. It was at this moment that I realized that my experience at Nelson's has always been marred by something like this. So, the food is good but just make sure you have all you need to navigate the food and the circumstances, including looking in the bag for yourself. read more

This is pretty good Mexican food. And that is a lot for me to say since I have been cooking it for over 40 years. The Whitekar Burrito would have been killer but I didn't know you had to choose everything and got pork instead of Carne Asada. It was good though. Hubby asked for salsa when they got there and girl said did you press the button and would not give him salsa. Gotta work on customer service and this place will rock. read more
