Neiman Marcus is very laid back and slow-paced whereas Saks is always crowded and pretentious and Barney's resembles a night club thereby sacrificing selection. Enrico was my shopper and he got a little antsy after 5 hours of shopping BUT still a gentleman to the last ounce. Tony the tailor is amazing, he's a little man (Italian?) who I think may have been drunk? Or maybe he's just always happy. I also had my makeup done at Bobbi Brown for a formal event and I looked great. My friend had hers done at Chanel at Saks...she looked better so go to Chanel at Saks. My one complaint is that they only take Amex cards. read more

I didn't feel as comfortable here as I usually do at Neimans. Some of the salespeople were standoffish, and the ones that tried to help me at the make up counter were super pushy and they seemed so fake. One guy told me that beauty week was coming up, but as soon as I said I wouldn't be in Boston for the sale, his demeanor completely changed. It's a really nice store. I bought a dress here, and it arrived damaged. I had to return the dress and get a new one VERY quickly for a wedding. We managed to get a new dress and do a refund, but they bungled the refund and ended up charging me twice for shipping instead of refunding. It was all a big mess that took 3 trips to sort out. Then this past weekend, I went to the lingerie dept and asked if they carry Natori. The sales associate said no and then added "because their bras are not good quality." I could have sworn that they had Natori in one of their stores, so I check online and BINGO - they carry Natori. If you don't carry a product fine...but don't BS me about how what I'm looking for isn't *worthy* of your store, especially when you're completely wrong. Otherwise, I love the location and selection. I like coming to Neimans, because its organized. Staff is usually pretty friendly. I revisited the store on 7/9/13, because it was hot, my makeup melted off my nose and I was going out for the night.. I went to the Trish McEvoy counter, and I was going to purchase a new concealer for the occasion. I've been to this Trish counter before and had made some previous purchases. You know...I'm normally a big fan of Neiman's..I mean HUGE. What can I say, I dig the shoes and like to buy them there. So what's the problem you ask? The sales associates at the Boston store SUCK. I cannot tell you how many times I've walked out without a coveted pair of Blahniks because the shoe department was too busy chatting eachother up to help customers. Sad but true. My sister in law, who works at Neiman's corporate in Dallas was even shunned on a visit to Boston...yep, witnessed it myself. Thank goodness Saks 5th Avenue and Barneys offer the same expensive shoes that I can't resist despite my husbands cries for (financial) help! Maybe there are just enough tourists running around Copley that commissions are easy to come by without much customer service. Go figure. read more

I've had nothing but wonderful experiences at Neiman's. I'm still a bit intimidated by how posh they are in the clothing and shoe departments however, I have three strong reasons to go if you're looking for something besides a $1400.00 Chanel silk shift. 1. Their cosmetics department is great. I purchased all Bobbi Brown makeup for my wedding a few years back and the women doing my face were incredibly helpful and sweet, and I find their makeup amazing; very well-made and long-lasting with a range of great color palette. The saleswomen weren't pushy or critical, very laid-back, which I love and probably influenced my decision to purchase products I didn't need. 2. The perfume department is lovely as well. Yesterday I was there looking for a citrus scent and the three people working at the counter were especially helpful. I didn't get their names but one woman was especially helpful and let me try on lots of different fragrances from Annick Goutal to Jo Malone to Vera Wang. At no point did she rush me. My only regret is that the perfume I fell in love with wasn't available in a smaller size so I ended up empty-handed. They have an incredible assortment of perfumes and colognes, so if you're a scent-fiend like me. Check it out! 3. Lingerie. Not only are their variety of silk robes, pajama's and underwear so beautiful but the woman who assisted me was very tactful and had a great sens of humor (which I think is mandatory when you're dealing with underwear). I'm at the age when Spanx are needed and I purchased my first pair yesterday. I aint too proud to admit it! Oh, another bonus is they often host fashion shows. Yesterday they had some kind of Eileen Fisher event and I bumped into a model, which was an other-worldly experience. They really do look like aliens. Only 4 stars instead of 5 because I always notice that the salesladies in the clothing department tend to follow you around in an indiscreet manner. Ugh. read more

So I like Neiman's, and I really like the new store in the Natick Collection. But a few things that REALLY REALLY annoy me about them: They close at 8pm , when the rest of the stoes/mall are open until 10pm They don't take MC/Visa - they take AMEX or Neiman's card. Who doesn't take visa? The shoe dept is very good: Manolo, Prada... the usual suspects. Staff is really helpful as well. I don't like the clothing selection quite as much as the shoes, but I've definitely found some items I liked. It is an irritation indeed that they only take American Express or a Neiman's card, or checks (who buys retail with checks?!). I have been going to this Neiman Marcus for a few years and haven't gone to the new one in Natick yet, so I will update this review when I have basis for comparison. For now, this Neimans carries a lot of merchandise (for men at least). I always like going to Saks and comparing prices for the sae product here. If you are on a budget, I recommend coming here during sales. I've come out of here with some great deals on denim and Prada. It's always less crowded than the Saks and there aren't many sales people hounding you either. I was appalled by the way they handled things at this location (handbag section). My husband had purchased a Balenciaga bag (metallic edge city bag in red - Store Inquiries: #1647795) from Neiman Marcus in Natick, but upon seeing the item, I noticed the tips of the tassles on the zipper were rather worn and there was a slight oily mark. So, I went to the location at Copley Square yesterday (9/8) to exchange it with another one since the online information stated that this item was in stock at this location. When I went, the salesperson (Rocio Pena) made remarks like the bag looks fine, it will not ship from the factory anyway (naw, really? - sarcasm), and how she doesn't think they have it I asked for her to check, and she only looked at the little closet behind the mirrors. Since the neiman marcus website stated that i could purchase it and pick up the item at the store on the day, I figured it would be in the stock room. Well, she told me there was NO stock room. Nothing made sense, and I returned the bag, then asked her to order it for me. She refused first and told me to order it myself online. *Wow* When I went to the customer service floor, the lady there told me there was nothing for her to find out - if the manager of the handbag section tells me if it not available then that is it for me, nothing she can check or help me with. Ok.... So I went back up after finding out the name of the manager... I asked the salesperson to order it for me again since the website said it was in stock for me to pick up. She then took the manager to what appeared to be a stock room and returned. I heard the manager ask her if she checked the stock room, and she made an expression that it wasn't available. And she still didn't order it for me. And the manager, Tracey, didn't bother looking for it or checking the inventory either. Well, CLEARLY, the salesperson did not want to help me in any way because an exchange would not give her the commission. Rather than not helping, even lied that there was no stock room, and avoided ordering it when I asked her to order it both times. It seems obvious that she didn't want to get caught lying? If it really was out of stock, they could have checked their inventory and showed me. SIMPLE. So, thanks for ruining a gift because you (Rocio Pena) refused to exchange it or even bother helping in any way, and Tracey, a supposed manager, just walking around. Well, I guess Tracey checked one of the cabinets under the cash register machine, but she could have checked the inventory herself. And what sort of customer are they providing on the customer service floor? I will never return to this place to purchase anything. Off to the Natick location for me, which is an experience on the opposite side of the spectrum, or the website. read more

Get ready, I am NOT happy with Neiman's Last weekend my mom, who hasn't been so well this past year, really wanted to take me shopping for my birthday, but she doesn't have a lot of stamina for walking about, so we decided to go to the Copley Mall. I usually go to Saks for my cords (love their sales), but because of where we parked we opted for Neiman's. We got to the junior miss, or whatever they call the trendy clothes department, and I looked everywhere but the only place I could find for her to sit was this wickedly uncomfortable plastic seat. She grinned and made the best of it, while I asked a lounging sales girl, who was chatting with the other lounging sales girls, if they had any cords. She sort of waved in the direction of the sales rack and muttered something about how they had gotten in a couple of pairs of Seven's, and she thought they were gone, but maybe I'd find something there. I looked through the rack, found several pairs of Juicy cords (not Seven's), tried on a pair and decided to buy it. I asked if they could hem them and they called the alterations lady, who pinned them up and then handed me a bill for $12. I was surprised, but she said that was standard for jeans on sale. When I got to the register, I decided to have them taken in, for the same price, at the neighborhood tailor, so I wouldn't have to go downtown to pick them up. Surly girl number two shrugged, "whatever" and took the pins out. When I got them home, I discovered that one seam was torn out along the waistline. Needless to say, they went back, and no, I don't want them fixed, and no, I am not going there again. Why? Well, let me tell you... Here's what I'm used to at Saks: I walk in, there are numerous, soft surfaces to sit on while waiting for someone, and a sales assistant approaches and asks if I need anything, then walks me to the racks and helps me to find the item I are looking for. If I want something altered it is included. Sale items, too. And they will even post it to me, if I like, when it's finished. Done and done. The Neiman's punchline: I returned the pants a couple of days ago. I took them to customer service, rather than going to the department where I felt I was treated rudely. I explained to the assistant manager what I felt had happened, she apologized and, when I said I really just wanted to be done with them, encouraged me to return them at the customer service desk next door. When I went to do that I was told, bruskly, that I could only return catalog items there. I did ultimately return my pants (they are sending me a check, because they don't take credit cards at Neimans... excuse me?) but the surly woman who did it told me in the process that they ladies at the junior miss department are "always like that". Well, maybe they are, but who needs it? Not me, thanks! I am amazed they are still in business. Back to Saks I go, tra la! read more

Okay, I am glad to see someone else mentioned how they only take Amex (thanks Robert G.) Wtf? The only other place I know that only takes Amex is COSTCO. Neiman Marcus... COSTCO. Not in the same league. I can understand Costco not taking Visa, MC and Discover, probably in an effort to keep their prices low for their customers, but Neiman Marcus, I don't think they are too concerned about saving their customers money. I was just in total shock. I know a lot of places don't take Discover, but what place doesn't take Visa or Mastercard? Thankfully, I have Amex so this was not a huge deal, even though the salesperson suggested I run across the street to an ATM (wtf?). I can't complain too much about the store itself because it's always clean and nicely laid out and I got excellent service there last week at the Chanel counter, but please, why only Amex? Oh how I love this Neiman Marcus. I've spent more time here than any store in Boston. Love the cosmetic department (Ask for Gina or Cathy at the Trish McEvoy desk... they are fantastic), shoe department (although Saks has better sales), men's clothing and accessories (always neatly organized and easy to navigate. For womens, they have a great Theory selection and other mainstream designers... Fitting rooms are a good size with just enough lighting. Sales reps are helpful and not too pretentious. This is definitely one of my favorite places to shop when I'm in Beantown, but not my #1. read more

Their staff is very rude. I went to their perfume department and the woman at the counter was really rude. She had zero customer service skils. I told her that I liked a perfume and her response was 'I need to see if I have it before you like it'. I was taken aback by her rudeness. I ended up bying a perfume that was almost $200 (I wish I could have bought it elsewhere but only NM had it) and she never even thanked me for my purchase, nor did she give me perfume samples like all other stores do. As of right now, I can only speak of the shoe department at Neiman Marcus. However, if the customer service I received in the shoe department is any indication of the customer service level of the entire store, I will definitely be back. I came in one afternoon looking for a specific Manolo Blahnik heels I saw online. As I wandered the department admiring the beautiful selection, sales associate Geoffrey asked if I needed any assistance. When I informed him of the shoe of my dreams he was quick to find my size and assist with anything. He offered sizing suggestions and was not the slightest disappointed when I told him that I would have to think about the purchase and that I would be back the next day. (It's not everyday I drop mad cash on a pair of Manolo's afterall.) Since the pair were the last in my size, Geoffrey offered to hold them for me until tomorrow. When I arrived the next day, Geoffrey recognized me right away. What a way to make a girl feel special! He quickly brought my shoes out for me to try on again and speedily rang up my purchase. Overall, the process was a delight. Geoffrey has a way of making you feel like you're his best customer. I will certainly be back to bask in the glory of the Neiman Marcus shoe department. read more

What happened ? This place used to be my go to for all my skin care and make up. I came in this Friday expecting to find great service and knowledgeable staff as always. All!! Every single one of your cosmetic representative was face down in their cellphones. Only department that looked attentive was fragrance. I love the store and the products, but I felt extremely uncomfortable the entire time I was in there. I went in simply to get a face moisturizer, so I was walking around comparing different products when I noticed a manager staring at me, so I looked at her and smiled. I got the most amazing cashmere sweater here & I gotta say I have fallen in love, wish I could wear this every day! I've washed it a million times and it still holds it's softness! Neiman Marcus is definitely a higher-end, brand happy place..most times you pay for the name, but like with anything, you get what you pay for. I couldnt care less about namebrands but i am a person who appreciates quality, and their stuff has held true to quality for me so far! Customer service is pretty good, someone always comes up and asks if I need help though I wish I wasn't attacked right when I walk in that's my only reason for not giving 5 stars, would love at least 2 minutes to walk around on my own but hey at least there is someone there to help if you do have questions, right? Great service in Cosmetics, in fact the Fragrance department was voted Best for 2011 by Boston Magazine. Ann at the Fragrance counter knows everything there is to know about Fragrance.
