The hubs and I decided to split the Big Elvis donut with house made peanut butter icing, fresh grilled bananas, grilled bacon and honey). What is not to like about this combination of ingredients? This savory donut's base was Gourdough's (play on words) signature sourdough donut and then layered with each of the ingredients. The layering of ingredients and flavors created a 5-alarm palate explosion. The donut was delicious...better and better with each bite. Wow, wow, wow! Crunch...flavor...smokiness...crunch...flavor...smokiness! We have not had a donut quite like this one. Maria, our donut chef, boldly told us that it was going to be best donut we had ever eaten. Such a bold claim...however, Maria came with "receipts". Total donut nirvana... Gourdough's is in a food truck park with ample seating outside and a few of cushioned love seats. Superb experience...

I prefer the mini but they're sold out a lot which shows you how spectacular this place is. My go to is the nutty valentine. The donut is always warm, fresh, and crispy. And the toppings of Nutella, cinnamon, and strawberries adds dimension & the perfect story. There is plenty of patio seating and lots of parking outside. There can be a line on the weekends and they tend to sell out so keep that in mind. The staff is friendly and service is quick!

My boyfriend and I enjoyed the Taxi Driver dessert so much that we ordered a second one and seriously considered a third. Our server didn't judge us one bit, and honestly, we definitely had room for another! We also tried a purple yam milk coffee drink, which was delicious and something a little different from what I'd usually order. The seating area is really cute and cozy, and it's just such a nice little spot to sit and enjoy a meal. Definitely wish I'd discovered this place sooner!

The Chickpea "Chick'n" Salad Sandwich was really good and packed with flavor. The portion was so generous that I ended up taking half home for dinner! My friends enjoyed both the Fajitas Ricas and the House Special Omelet. For dessert, the Blueberry Cornbread was delicious--not overly sweet, which I really liked. The Cinnamon Roll was just okay; it was a little doughy for my taste. Overall, the portions are generous, there are plenty of creative vegetarian and vegan options, and it's definitely a place I'd come back to try more of the menu.

Whenever we're out and about on South Congress (shopping and/or brunching), we like to stop in for a little treat. They even have an old-fashioned soda fountain where you can get egg cream soda. Now, I'm an expert of sorts on real NYC egg creams and I'll say they do a pretty decent job of it. I love the Italian cream soda! You can get scoops of ice cream, sundaes, and banana splits too. The candy selection is crazy big. Bins and bins of penny candy, gum, chocolate, nostalgia candies...too many to name. It absolutely feels like time has stood still in this marvelously sweet shop. The slices of cake were good. The carrot cake was excellent and moist. My only complaint was the pieces of carrot were too large. Would have been better puréed or put through a food processor before being put in the batter, but overall 8/10. The red velvet cake was too dry. I'm not sure if the pieces we got were a bit older but definitely recommend eating this cake at room temp day of baked if possible. 6/10The cupcakes on the other hand were nearly perfect. One was a chocolate c cake with a java flavored buttercream.outstanding! 10/10The other was a white cake with a coconut buttercream. I'm not a fan of coconut and since it had coconut shreds on the top, I just ate some of the white cake, which was perfectly moist and delicious. 6/10 but only docked points for the flavor selection. Cookies were good. I ate both of them. I prefer my cookies a bit crispier than these were. 7/10. If you're in the Westlake area, or near their other locations, I'd recommend stopping in for a treat

I didn't sample the bakery food this time, although everything looked tempting. I opted for iced tea, and they absolutely got it right. A generous glass of excellent tea, which is surprisingly hard to find at coffee shops these days. The folks behind the counter were genuinely friendly, service was quick, and the whole place had that wonderfully eclectic, slightly funky South Austin character. Nothing fancy or pretentious, just a comfortable neighborhood hangout with plenty of personality. You can tell Captain Quack's has earned its place in the hearts of the locals. Great atmosphere, good people, and a little Austin weirdness in all the right ways. I'll be back, and next time I'm trying something from that bakery case.

There is also an expansive outdoor sitting area so you can enjoy the sunshine, in addition to the tables in front. Service is excellent, on par with their other locations. And the desserts are really amazing. I recommend trying their decorated sugar cookies. They have specials every day where you can get one style for $1(?). Also the pies and cakes and lemon bars and etc. should all be tasted. I do wish they had better breakfast and lunch options when it comes to savory food. And also one of the rooms is super dark. Maybe build in some extra windows? There is plenty of parking. You can order your cakes to go and bring one to your next dinner party, as it's a full bakery in addition to a coffee shop.
