I love the food at Nectar Cafe! Any time I find myself in Auburn I try to make a stop here for dinner or lunch. I am a vegetarian and it is such a great feeling to go into a restaurant and order anything on the menu. In the Roseville area where I am from there are a lot of vegan restaurants, I enjoy these as well but I LOVE cheese. Cheese is one of my favorite foods. when it is not part of my meal I feel like something is missing in my life. That is the beauty of Nectar Cafe, it has dairy products for those who like to enjoy them and vegan options for those who don't ..... Best of Both worlds! I have tried the enchiladas, lasagna, and southwest wrap.... all delicious. My meat loving dad raves about the vegetarian Ruben sandwich and my mom enjoys the taco salad. My one complaint about Nectar Cafe is their service...... DO NOT Come here if you are in a Hurry. Every time I have been here it takes forever for the food to be delivered to the table.... it boggles my mind because most of the items aren't even cooked! It was super busy when I stopped in today (Sunday around lunchtime), so I only ordered a bowl of soup. It was handed to me quickly, and I grabbed one of the few remaining tables. By the time I finished there was a line waiting for seats. The soup was a tomato based soup, plenty tasty, but could have been hotter and should come with at least some crackers or a roll for the nearly 9 bucks I shelled out. This is pretty steep for soup that came without any veggies or grains. All in all, I'd like to come back when they aren't so jammed and try out some of the other menu items. I really liked this place. I went there with my mom on a Friday a little after lunch. It wasn't to busy!! I ordered the California burger my mom ordered the chili verde enchiladas. My burger was really not good at all. There was not a lot of flavor! I def wouldn't ever order a burger there. However the enchiladas OMG where to die for sooooo good!! They saved the day. Wow: *great* find! My wife and I stopped here for dinner on a Tuesday, early evening. We'd hoped for a quick meal and then to get back on the road, but it seemed like that wasn't to be, since they appeared to be short-staffed. We were pleasantly surprised! Besides our dinners arriving quickly, the service overall was very pleasant, friendly, well beyond cordial. We shared a Mediterranean bowl and a tempeh curry bowl. Both were wonderful (though I might have preferred pita chips to the tortilla chips with each of these, or even a rice-bean chip if they wanted to keep the dishes free of gluten), but that's my ONLY suggestion, and it's very small. My friend and I went to eat lunch here today. The food was good, but not over the top. She specifically told the cashier not to give her any cabbage, but when her taco came it was piled high on the taco. They won't be getting any prizes for the service. Why do you have a tip jar if your customers have to bus their own plates and go to the counter to get another tea refill? I'm not sure what's up with young people, but there doesn't seem to be any manners or concern anymore. Someone here needs to retrain the staff. I'm stumped as to how so many rated this café so high. What a spectacular meal! My family is not vegan or vegetarian, but we were not disappointed. The cauliflower "wings" were amazing. The burgers were easily the best veggie burgers I've ever had. They are generous with avocado and everything that is supposed to be spicy delivers (unlike lots of Auburn "spicy" food). Everything we got even met my low sugar diet which is such a stress relief. Stopped by for my first visit, the staff was extremely nice, the food was amazing, I got a vegan taco plate. One taco was vegan chorizo, and the other marinated portobello mushrooms and I was in disbeleif the amount of flavor both had. These tacos have more flavor than a Mexican restraunt with meat chorizo. After living in Auburn for almost a full year, visiting this place has sent me back to Yelp! I recently swirched to a vegan diet, so I stopped eating out until someone recommended this place to me. I decided to try a wrap and only slightly dissapointed after getting it to see it contained cheese. No huge deal, just know its actually a vegetarian place so you can order accordingly. I did notice they even offer raw options too, so they seem very willing to cater to your special requests here. The food was really good. I tried the Santa Fe wrap and had an Arnold Palmer with Hibiscus Tea, it was delicious and refreshing. You can actually bring your meat loving friends here too, its that good. I cant wait to go back, and Im so happy to found a place I can go out to eat at without too many special requests and questions. Food takes a while to be ready, but greatness takes time. Nectar is now open on Sundays! The food is always fresh and fantastic. Some of my favorites are the Portabella Tacos, the Mediterranean Bowl (with quinoa and house made hummus), and the Tempeh Reuben Sandwich. Among my husband's favorites are the Santa Fe wrap, the Chile Verde Enchiladas - and despite the fact that he's a "hamburger guy" - he loves their vegan sweet potato burger. The cashew vegan cheese is wonderful, but if you'd prefer dairy you can choose the organic Swiss, Jack or Cheddar depending on what you order. They have great dinner specials, but they change nightly. The Mushroom Risotto is scrumptious! Eating healthy never tasted so good! They have a great drink selection, and a "Kid's Fare", as well (which I don't typically see at a restaurant that serves organic food). If you want hot foods - something off the grill or baked- the menu states that it could take 15 to 20 minutes and advises you to ask for an estimate of time. This is not a fast food restaurant. They make the delicious organic food when you order it. If you don't have time to wait for hot food there are many fantastic cold options inlcuding their wraps and bowls and the delicious Mediterranean salad. read more

My husband and I stopped here on our way to Reno when I was dying for a cup of coffee. I get tired of the chain coffee shops so I was really looking forward to finding a local coffee shop. We found Nectar Cafe and it seemed perfect for us. Then the craziness happened. I ordered two lattes. Simple enough, right? Apparently not. The girl working the counter asked me two times what size I wanted for the lattes. I said large and she looked at me weird. Then she asked what milk I wanted and I noticed they had cashew milk. I am a fanatic for anything that has to do with cashews so I ordered cashew milk in my latte and ordered regular milk for the hubby. Again, I was asked what size I wanted for my drink. At this point I was checking her eyes because she had to be under the influence of something to forget what I said two minutes ago. I then went to the bathroom and when I came out the owner or manager was waiting for me and asked what size I wanted for my drinks. This seriously has to be some huge joke they play on all their patrons. At this point I practically screamed, "large"! To which the gentleman responded that they only had one size for the lattes. If I wasn't in the midst of paying I think I would have walked out. If you only have one size then why was I asked so many times what size I wanted??!! Let me tell you it was smallest cup of coffee I have ever had. Our two tiny lattes cost a whopping $9! To be fair, the super expensive tiny cup of coffee was really good and the whole experience led to a plethora of jokes all weekend. The food look good if you are vegan. read more
