This was by far the best Chai I had on the trip. It was flavorful and smooth. The Service: The worker was extremely nice and answered all my questions regarding the chai before I ordered. My girlfriend and I were visiting from the Bay Area, and we decided to try this place out for our daily coffee run. We saw a gentlemen holding the front door open, with his road bike and bike gear on. As we approached and tried to walk inside, he let us know that they were actually closed for the day. But! He kindly offered to bring us a menu and make our drinks anyway. Turns out he's the owner. Sadly I didn't ask his name. Clean coffee shop to enjoy a weekend morning. The pine wood floors, white granite bistro tables, red velvet bench, and black tulip cups are the standard modern coffee shop; all done exceptionally well at Neckar. The shop is quiet with soft music playing and not too loud guests, a perfect place to have a nice work sesh or conversation. I asked for a flat white and the barista suggested a cordata based on the description. The drink was close but lacked the micro foam of a flat white, though it was still a very good drink. Not a good experience. Thought it was going to be good based on the reviews but it wasn't. The worker was rude, didn't even greet us when we approached, and wasn't very knowledgeable about coffee. We ordered a couple simple drinks and they didn't know what it was. I said that wasn't a problem and ordered a plain coffee. They continued to then make us feel bad that they didn't know the coffee we tried to order first. It wasn't a pleasant experience. read more

I'm not surprised to see a place like this pop up in Boise, but as soon as Blue Bottle swoops in, they'll be done. It doesn't matter if your cafe looks like it belongs in Seattle or San Francisco if the service sucks. Took four people about 10-15 minutes to make one espresso drink with zero other people in line, and I was served a heavy dose of pretentiousness that I didn't order. Even that would've been somewhat tolerable if they hadn't completely scorched the milk in my cappuccino. Gave an extra star because the beans are good brewed at home. All bark and no bite. I have never had a bad, bitter or burnt cup of coffee at this place. The coffee is always so smooth and delicious. I have had the pour over and the Americano and both can be enjoyed sans my usual cream because they are so smooth. The decor is modern and sleek, a mix of mediums and Joanna Gaines worthy potted plants. The baristas have always been fast, courteous and professional. I have enjoyed every interaction. Indigo & I love Neckar Coffee. I have an appreciation for marble and empty space. It's sort of a trend with coffee shops nowadays and I'm not mad at it. Neckar has the aesthetic I like so, naturally, it's one of my favorite places to grab a drink. I usually order a chai latte. Making a chai latte isn't difficult to do, it's just incredibly easy to get it wrong. Neckar doesn't get chai lattes wrong. I've had consistently good ones here, they're never drowning in sugar. Indigo likes to order the hot chocolate, iced. I've had a sip and it's something I'd order for myself. If you like chocolate, try it. My favorite thing about this place is the people. The owners and baristas make an effort to get to know their customers. Sit at the counter and have a chat, they won't bite. Neckar is like the effortlessly quirky hipster of coffee shops. It's baristas are quirky, it's instagram page is quirky, the sign outside is quirky, and its customers are quirky. My pro tip: Sit at the marble bar. Indigos pro tip: Hot chocolate on ice. read more

I first tried out Neckar Coffee a few years back at the Boise Farmers Market. My friend brought me here to try their coffee float - nitro cold brew over Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream. We drank every last sip of those things and left no ounce of ice cream behind. We also wandered through the farmers market with coffee float mustaches painted across our faces. Zero shame. I was super excited to find out they opened a store front recently! A few weeks ago, I rolled out of bed on my day off craving a decadent coffee and this place popped in my head. I drove here and ordered my favorite coffee to indulge in - a mocha - it was wonderful. I'm trying to come up with a list of words to describe it, but I'd say the word that suits this drink best is smooth. It was so easy to sip on that I could have drank it in a matter of minutes. But it was also so tasty that I wanted to savor it and drink it slowly. And that is what I did! Twelve ounces of pure bliss turning my Sunday morning into something like a dream. Their menu is very simple and has a list of about ten different drinks you can order from. I like this simplicity (mostly because menus with lots of words on them stress me out - anyone else with me on this?!). They also have a few pastries available here from Sable Bakery. I didn't try any, but they looked delicious! Prices here are comparable with other coffee shops of this caliber - I think my drink was around $5. The inside of this shop has a clean, modern design with dreamy natural lighting, white walls, wood accents, and little pops of green here and there from plants! Along the right side of the shop is one long table that spans from the front to the back of the room with bench seating on one side and chairs/stools along the other. They also have stools along the coffee bar - similar to how old school dinners do. I thought this was both clever and visually pleasing - modern design meets a classic concept. I took my coffee with me to go, so I didn't get to stay and enjoy their shop for more than 5 minutes. I'm excited to come back, crack open a book and order another one of their mochas! read more

Okay, this is the cool new place to be in Boise! First off, the space is so clean and pretty inside. They have a long maroon velvet-y couch that lines the entire side of the coffee shop and a bunch of simple tables and chairs to go along with it. A sleek long marble countertop with some cool leather stools makes for a nice place to sit and watch them make your coffee. This place really accomplishes the "trendy yet elegant" vibes without seeming like they're trying too hard (like some other coffee shops in town)-- I love it! It also doesn't look like it was generically furnished with couches and knick knacks from TJ Maxx. It's trendy, but uniquely simple and has an overall well thought out design. As for the coffee, they roast their own beans in house & the espresso has a really nice bold flavor. Nothing too bitter, yet flavorful and strong enough to keep you going! We ordered a cold brew and a hot latte. The mugs they serve the hot drinks in are so adorable-- a clean white with some cute speckles all over it. Both the cold brew and the latte were wonderful. The latte had the perfect amount of foam, and the foam itself was well prepared: not too bubbly, but thick and creamy. The employees said they get pastries from Janjou Patisserie, but we visited on a day that Janjou is closed, so they only had a few mini muffins to choose from. The employees also said that they plan to serve more food items as they get more established, and I'll look forward to tasting those as they roll them out. The service is overall really wonderful-- super friendly and warm employees, but not overly talkative and annoying. They also served our drinks very quickly (although we were the only people in line, to be fair). Overall my favorite coffee shop in Boise by far. Excellent, and I mean it when I say excellent, dirty chai. They make and spice their own chai in-house and nailed the proper flavor. -- I should know, my mother-in-law makes it from scratch every morning, could possibly do it with her eyes closed. -- This flavor, plus espresso, came mighty close. The pastries were bomb; whatever bakery this shop is currently using is knows how to make an almond croissant. Only complaint that it was nearly too quiet, but that could have simply been the hour we chose to visit. I'd definitely advise picking a Spotify station that totally encompasses the cool vibe of this very tasty spot. Quality coffee for certain. Atmosphere checks all boxes. I am not always a fan of hipsters, but I love hipster coffee shops! I got an americano and it was wonderful! It was very light in color and had a ton of flavor, but didn't have the overly floral nose that I am often not a fan of with light roast pour overs. Oh and did I mention they have legit French pastries? I went with a pain at chocolate and it had wonderful layer of crispy pastry dough, just like the best bakeries in France. My new favorite coffee spot. They also have a good amount of desk space and TONS of outlets if you need a place to work for an hour. read more

I'm from NYC; have lived in Philly, DC, and Miami. I had the best Americano of my life this morning at Neckar in Boise. This is a wonderful, friendly, clean and modern/hip coffee shop....... A neat, trendy coffee place. The long coffee counter with bar seating looked very appealing. As well as the velvet covered bench along the wall. For non dairy milk, they only have almond or oat milk. I tried my hot mocha with the oat milk. Although I could taste a slight oatmeal flavor, I didn't mind. It was quite satisfying for a cold day. My spouse on the other hand wasn't impressed. He wanted a white chocolate mocha, but they don't have any other flavors. My daughter had hot chocolate. She was bummed about no whip cream, but loved seeing the coffee art in the mochas. They also have a small case for baked goods, but unfortunately it was empty when we arrived. I do want to return and try their cold brew float and hopefully some treats! read more

I chose Neckar for the good reviews but I was very disappointed. My girlfriend and I got an iced oat milk latte and a mocha. If you like oat milk I do not recommend getting it from here, the oat milk really clashed with the flavor of the espresso and made it pretty undrinkable. The mocha was okay but not special. The place had a cute aesthetic which is why I think it has so many good reviews but I really wouldn't recommend the coffee. read more
