I liked the dark aesthetic and interesting shape of the shop plus all the outdoor seating. The baristas were very welcoming but it seems like one of those places that could be intimidating if you don't really know your coffee (or tea, if that's what you're there for). I came because they had some seasonal drinks that sounded interesting. I think they were each named after a song to celebrate a local music festival. I had the Idaho Alien, which was matcha with calpico and pistachio syrup topped with matcha foam. Very good and unique! The different flavours didn't overshadow the matcha. I was a little disappointed to receive my drink in a plastic cup even though I requested for here, but that is a small detail in an otherwise very positive experience. read more

While looking for a place to get a cup of coffee before hopping on a plane back home I stumbled across Slow by Slow. It's located in a beautiful part part of Boise. The inside was cozy, and had a large 'dining' room. Unfortunately for me, I was in a bit of a rush; I wish I could have taken a a moment and drank my coffee here as it seems like a great place to do so. There is a nook in the ordering area filled with cool little goodies to peruse while you wait to order/receive your coffee. They roast their own beans here, which is always exciting to me as I love to try new and hard to reach (from Phoenix, AZ) coffee! I absolutely enjoyed my latte, it was not overly sugary or milky. It was coffee forward and the brown sugar paired well with it. If, or when, I visit Boise again, this is where I will be stopping by first! read more

I want to start this review off by saying that the coffee was good however my issue was the general ambiance and the customer service. I am a young mexican girl so I've always faced racial microagressions throughout my life and when I came in here I didn't feel very welcome, not only because of my skin color but also the fact that the workers didn't greet me or my mom when we walked in. When I walk into buildings primarily dominated by white people, I often immediately feel out of place so the fact that me and my mom were looked over made me feel even more different and a little excluded. On top of that, when we were waiting in line to order it kind of felt like the looks we were receiving were judgemental rather then simple, harmless glances. These things may have not been racially motivated whatsoever, but saying hello to your customers would go a long way and maybe prevent them from feeling the way that I do about my experience here. read more

The most luxurious coffee experience of the year ... in Boise, Idaho! Who knew? Slow by Slow is amazing. I had the Christmints Latte, with house-made peppermint syrup and served with fresh mint. Bougie! I got to smell it every time I took a sip, and somehow that makes a difference! The latte was ultra smooth with just the perfect amount of decorative foam. Terry opted for the seasonal drink, Sumac That. And yup, you guessed it! Sumac infused goodness with cranberry, orange and sage - dusted with crushed sumac berries - and not too sweet. Best coffee we had in Boise! They sell Heart Roasters beans, one of our favorites from Portland, so I knew they'd be good. This was the only coffee shop we visited twice during our four day stay in Boise, so you know they're legit. The baristas are so nice; they remembered our order when we returned two days later and even asked "are you sure you want the 12 oz? You got the 16 oz on Saturday." Listen... one of the best crafted lattes I've ever had. I usually like to go to coffee shops that roast their own but they source their coffee WELL and they make an excellent drink. I love that they make all their syrups in-house. Even though they're super busy they remained pleasant to work with. They brought me my drink and it was wrong, and they immediately made a new one and were so pleasant. That first sip was the most impressive I've had in a long time - ever if I can remember! I opted to get an "old fashioned" latte and was shocked at how all the flavors were perfectly balanced and so delightful. Yep, there's a reason they're so busy, even at 3pm. But we've been a couple of times and I really appreciate a good pour over but I can't say much more about them other than the place is cute and folks who work in their area, ok but upon more introspective questioning about beans, roasts etc, they were a bit less "Boise" then other places. A local Boisean recommended I check out Slow By Slow Coffee Bar. I believe the name originates from their slowly poured yet delicious pour over coffees. It is in a super cute part of downtown with historic buildings, including the Idaho Candy Company across the street. Bring change for the parallel street parking meters. Jenna Rose welcomed me and was a doll to chat with. I ended up getting my basic Iced Oat Milk Latte. However, they had some fun syrup/sweetener options. I ended up going with the Old Fashion syrup--literally similar to hints and flavors of an Old Fashioned cocktail but without the bourbon. Instead it had orange peel, maple syrup and perhaps cardamom? Either way it was delicious and hot the spot. My other half had the House Cold Brew which he said was mellow and with hints of chocolate. Perfect spot for a morning or midday pick me up! read more

We tried both the Columbia & Seasonal Blend and enjoyed them a lot. Chocolatey and nutty Columbia based cortado was like a warm hug to your mouth. Fruity, bright and lighter tasted Seasonal Blend based cortado was a refreshing, delightful, more unique cup of espresso based drink. The two baristas were both cool and nice guys. Very casual place. People seem to gather there and work from their laptops, and hang out for a bit. I don't blame them. It's a super chill place to just chill...and the coffee is great! My favorite coffee place in Boise. This is because they actually make their lattes and such from scratch. They come up with some incredibly good flavor combinations. My all time favorite, so far, is the Bedford Falls. I highly recommend it!! It's a just the perfect amount of sweetness, and I usually have mine in coconut milk. It's perfect, especially on a chilly day. Soooo comforting. If I lived closer, I would go here every day, so it's probably good I don't live next door or I'd go broke. Anyway, I highly recommend you give them a try, and even more importantly, I urge you to try something you've never had before. That's their specialty. read more

This is the thick as thieves of coffee in Boise- feels like a cocktail bar experience. If you want a typical syrup-based sweet latte, this isn't it. I love how original their flavors are and the craft that goes into each one. The butternut spice latte is fall in a cup- it's one of the best lattes I've ever had. The old fashioned latte they had over the summer was amazing as well. Plenty of work space and very friendly staff. Drinks are on the more expensive side, but it's clear as to why that is. Poor customer service. We wanted to buy a sweater in a size that wasn't hanging. Employee said she was too busy and to come a different day. We responded that we're from out of town. She said she was too busy to go get it. The response should've been "since your drinks are for here, do you mind if I go get the sweater when I have a moment?" I'm a retail manager and that wouldn't fly with me. They were steady, but they were not that busy. And at one point, there was nobody in line and drinks were all made. Then I needed regular sugar but there was only stevia available. So I ask. I'm told it's the bottle of simple syrup next to the stevia. There's maybe a tbsp left. It looks like they need to be better prepared before opening. The matcha latte was 2/5 stars and lukewarm. Fritter was cold and unappetizing. read more

TLDR: Not my wife's cup of coffee. So there are two main types of coffee bean, a bitter kind and a sour kind. My wife prefers the bitter coffee bean. Another thing about this coffee shop is that it rotates their coffee blends. Not sure how often they rotate it, as we were from out of town. On that day we visited, the shop's two blends were of the sour kind. My wife is a discerning coffee drinker... she can get past the main coffee flavor to detect the subtle notes and hints of flavor. Me? It all tastes bitter and disgusting. What does this all mean? Well, you'll see. I forget the exact name of the blend we ordered, but I remember distinctly it said it had a sweet, caramel, syrupy hint to it. Now, my wife always has her coffee with no sugar at all, so I was curious if a coffee bean could naturally be sweet. So I waited for her to sip it for a while, before I asked her if she tasted the sweetness. Result? No, at least this coffee bean wasn't naturally sweet. My wife didn't really care for the coffee, as it was the sour kind. However, that's not really the fault of the coffee bar. Perhaps they could try to rotate their blends so there's always one bitter and one sour? Also, it seems to come off pretentious when they mention the "subtle notes" of the coffee roast, as if it were some kind of wine. But maybe my wife is too pedestrian to notice. I dunno... you'll have to try it for yourself. I'd suggest ordering it blind, and then see if you can taste any hints. Then look at the description to see if it matches. So although she didn't like it, we're still giving it 4 stars. The coffee is still way above "Diner Coffee", which itself is above "Coffee Water". read more

I had an awesome iced vanilla latte which is my "go to" coffee drink as summer kicks into full gear. I had a good almond croissant as well which I always enjoy in getting when I see some for sale.
