BEWARE OF HIDDEN FEES. While the food here was generally good, the hidden fees left a bad taste in me and my friend's mouths. To eat I had the fish and chips with the Pacific Halibut per our server's recommendation and it was pretty solid. The fish was fried well and the fish was juicy and fishy in a good way. The portion size looked small initially, but this was actually a filling dish. My friend got the fish tacos with swordfish also per our server's recommendation and it was also pretty solid for her. However, when we got the bill we were surprised with all the hidden fees. I asked for regular water, but was charged $1.25 for it. For my friend's taco, she was charged an extra $2.00 for the "blackened" fish which she did not order. Lastly, we were charged a 3% credit surcharge for using a credit card. I wish our server was upfront about these fees, it just felt like a greedy money grab of tourists. I would not come back honestly. Just bring your own food to the island.
We loved this place so much we ate here twice while in Catalina. The fish is fresh and delicious! Had to try the quail egg shooter and it was good! The ceviche is outstanding. A decent portion for the price. The scallops were good too- but I'd choose ceviche if you're waffling. Fish tacos, sushi- just go!
Love places like NDMK fish house. Great fish, great food in general, great staff and great location. Not boujee enough to out price people visiting the island. And well worth it. I wish I could've ordered more
Two cousins wake up at 4am to go fishing to deliver the freshest sea food. Loved this little restaurant in Catalina island. The staff were so friendly and it was nice to have a sit down meal. They have traditional sea food dishes or Asian fusion meals. My fav was the fish and chips as since they caught the halibut that morning. I highly recommend!

Stopped by here to try swordfish. Swordfish taco was an interesting experience. It taste like fish but it had texture to it. I'm not a fan of fish like cod where it falls apart. The shrimp was delicious. My biggest problem is that they charge you $1 for water. And it's a water bottle. I get it you're trying to keep a business but at the price we're paying for food. A water bottle should come with it.
My friend and I strolled into NDMK at around 7:30/8 on a Thursday and could not be more delighted with our experience! There are only a few tables and one server but she crushed it for being so busy. We ordered a cup of Lobster Bisque to start and it was absurdly good. Salty, buttery, and rich. My favorite one I've had so far. We also ordered two different sushi rolls that were fantastic. Super fresh and some unique flavor profiles. This is a quaint spot hidden on a side street of Catalina that is local and family owned. They catch most of their seafood daily! If you go anywhere on Catalina Island, let it be this spot.
Service 5/5 -friendly staff and food came out quick Food 3/5 -1/2 dozen oysters $18, tasted fresh and ponzu complimented it well -Rattlesnake roll $18, tasted the best out of the three, but nothing to write home about -Offshore roll $17, pickled red onion was interesting but get tiring after a couple pieces -Rainbow roll $16, least favorite of the three, the imitation crab mixture tasted drier and less flavorful than most that I have tried and made the roll taste dull -Salmon poke bowl $23, decent portion size but don't expect authentic poke, salmon is just diced and sauced at the time of order, refreshing overall -quality is not amazing but I think this is the only or one of few restaurants on the island that actually has sushi Ambiance 4/5 -Space is open and comfortable with plenty of bar seating around the perimeter that's great for people watching, there were a couple flies that lingering throughout the whole meal
Food: Our group ordered a few things, but I can only speak to the Fish & Chips. My friend and I each did an order: one with pacific halibut and another with white sea bass, which were pretty decent. My ONLY nitpick is for the fish to have been a bit more moist. Also, the fries were a shining co-star! It was a table favorite. Service: No complaints! We were seated promptly and our food came out at a reasonable time. Ambiance: Casual, nautical.
Worth the Stop in Avalon? Let's Talk About It. Q: When did you go and what was the wait like? A: Monday, fresh off a cruise around noon. About a 10-minute wait-completely reasonable. Q: First impression? A: I've been to Catalina Island more times than I can count, and somehow this spot never crossed my path until now. That alone surprised me. Q: What did you order? A: Fish and chips-and listen... it was slapping. The mahi mahi was full-bodied, flaky, and moist. The batter? Perfectly seasoned, which is rare without heavy breading. The fries were seasoned and jammin'. If you're a fry person, this combo delivers. (All local fish not available so don't get your palette to water. I preferred bass but I ate the mahi). Q: Why not something else like sushi? A: I considered it-but sushi is easy to find. Fish and chips made with mahi mahi instead of cod? That's a different conversation. I was here for it. Q: How was the service? A: One main waiter with support-but honestly, he was doing everything: host, server, cashier, manager. Easy on the eyes and efficient. Didn't miss a beat. Q: What about other food you saw? A: I was watching plates come out-everything looked worth trying. That's always a good sign. Q: Anything unexpected stand out? A: The fountain coke. No joke. I only drink fountain coke, and this was one of the best I've had. Q: What's the vibe and seating like? A: Small eatery. One table fits about 8, others are 2-4 tops plus a counter. Intimate, not cramped. Q: Accessibility and parking? A: Parking will be a challenge (typical Avalon). Wheelchairs can get in, but motorized chairs may struggle. The hallway to the restroom is tight, something to consider. Q: Price point-a little surprised? A: You might think it's a little pricey in the moment, but afterward? I didn't think about it at all. I'm general eating out is making me stay at home. Thank goodness I can cook. Q: Final take? A: Support this local spot. Solid food, efficient service, and a menu worth exploring. I'll be back. Hot tip: Cash is still king 3.5% charge for card -----"Local businesses are the lifeblood of any community."
We stopped here while on catalina island. I ordered the fish tacos and a salad. My favorite was the mahi- mahi. Service was ok. They were pretty busy. So we had to wait for seating. It wasn't to long before a booth became available. We also ordered the shrimp as an appetizer. It was all delicious and plentiful. I would recommend the tacos. If back on the island. I would stop here. The two tacos was very filling.
Great spot for fresh seafood! The seafood sandwich was delicious, fresh, flavorful, and really satisfying. Service was fast and everyone was friendly and welcoming. Definitely a great place to grab a quick seafood meal in Avalon.
Went on my first cruise and they dumped us here for half a day lol. Wandered around Catalina Island and decided give to this fish house a try! It's pretty small inside. Got the fish & chips, Rattlesnake roll & watermelon passionfruit drink. The sushi was surprisingly good, fresh ingredients topped with sweet eel sauce. It was pricey for a canned drink tho... $10! I thought it was going to be a hand made drink. Anyway, would def return to try some more dishes!

Excellent food and service that is reasonably priced. We enjoyed the food so much we ate here twice in a 24 hour period. Kenneth and Christian were both excellent servers. We had multiple rolls, hand roll, ceviche, burger and a kids meal. We would absolutely return. read more

Firstly--the food was great! My partner and I also really appreciated the fact that the food is locally and ethically sourced. The atmosphere was alright, and the location was very convenient. The staff did not get my order correct, which led to a $10 up charge. Other than that hiccup, the experience was good! read more

The food was bomb and perfectly cooked. The server helped us order with their fresh catches if the day. The fish tacos had hella fish in it it was so good and hearty! The fries are the perfect crunchiness to support malt vinegar. The sashimi was deliciously fresh. The bathroom was also super clean which is a big plus in small towns like this. 10/10 all around. read more

Eh. Came for lunch, Menu looked good but place was pretty average. 2 of us, Ordered one water and one soda but never got our water, actually we never saw our waiter besides him taking our order and then not again until we ended up paying , and we had to flag the guy down after waiting card in hand for 5-10 mins after eating.... And no it was not busy We got Swordfish tacos because the waiter hyped them up, the meat was good but idk $10+ per taco seems a bit steep for how little meat was inside. Side Salad lettuce was pretty brown too, was edible just not my cup of tea. The edamame appetizer has a good chili oil on it, highlight of the place (even though it's a jarred one and I only know cause it's my favorite) Overall glad I tried it but probably won't be back, at minimum gotta have the waiters check drinks.. ask if we like the food, offer us napkins or put them out for us to grab - so many other reviews are stellar for the sushi and the service but we got the opposite today. Was around $70 with tip for 4 tacos, 2 side salads, one edamame and one soda, we probably paid for the water we didn't get but don't even know, no receipt, no breakdown. read more

NDMK fish house is great. I work on Catalina Island six days and I spent at least three dinners there. Great view of the water when eating my favorite dish is the spicy Poké bowl with salmon. Staff is super friendly. Food is fresh locally sourced if you're gonna come to Hadley Island make this one a spot for lunch at dinner food is phenomenal so is the service friendly with a smile read more

If you want fresh, well-prepared fish, this is the place for you. At the advice of 'local' Chuck, bartender at an Avalon sports bar, we visited NDMK (the original, not the topside) on Sunday evening. The server was knowledgeable and provided great information and recommendations which we used when placing our order. It was really hard to make a choice because there were a number of enticing options. I ordered a cup of lobster bisque to begin, the yellowfin fish collar appetizer as an entree, and I added sides of seaweed salad and broccolini. My sweetie ordered the Pier Salad with halibut. We shared a bottle of quite reasonably priced Pinot Grigio. The lobster bisque was a creamy prelude to our meal. It was rich and full of little bits of spiny lobster. It had the taste of a sherry float (IYKYK) on top, although that was not part of their description! The yellowfin collar was lightly breaded and fried...and fabulous. It was beautifully presented with an abstract of dynamite and eel sauces on a gratuitous bed of cabbage. The broccolini came out warm and seasoned with sesame. The seaweed salad was tasty. The Pier salad had a variety of chopped veg and edamame. The tuna wasabi dressing could have been drank with a straw - it was a perfect viscosity and flavor combo for the salad. The halibut chunks on top were divine. They were perfectly charred on grill grates and cooked precisely. The owners have elected to put their investment in the fresh fish they offer. Listen- it is HARD traveling with a toddler. The service here is some of the best we have ever received. Family friendly with delicious food is always a winner! She was so patient, and gave us recommendations and accommodations before we even asked. We ordered one sushi roll and the fish and chips and both were absolutely spectacular. I also ordered a side of white rice for my child and she brought an extra round low plate that wouldn't break. It has a casual vibe but the restaurant is well kept, clean, and looks like it was recently renovated. It is close to the ferry so if you arrive starving or want a bite before you go, this is the place!! Did I mention that the fish and chips gives you the choice of type of fish? I had never seen that before but I ordered the halibut per the server's suggestion and all three of us loved it. read more

Had to wait even as there was plenty of seating. I was also alone. Very bad service. Tons of employees just loitering around. Took nearly 15 minutes to get a drink. Kitchen doesn't seem to work ahead scooping a bowl of soup takes 30 seconds but it took them 20 minutes. Fried Fish was ok was a bit overcooked. Oysters and soup was good! Took a long time to get my bill almost just left cash and walked out. read more

Went here on a Monday at 230 pm and there were seats available. The waiters were nice and informative! The food was good and they sell some beer! It is a casual spot. Considering all the food choices at Avalon, I would rate this as one of the better restaurants. I would come back to this! read more
food was decent but we waited ~45 minutes for it which was fine because they notified us that there would be a delay before we ordered but it was still surprising since it was later into the night and there were less people. fries were super good, not soggy at all. buffalo burger was tasty & not dry. poke was good as well! fish tasted super fresh unfortunately some items weren't available because they sold out so definitely come earlier into the day just in case! read more
was recommended this place by our tour guide. it was crowded even after lunchtime so you know its a good restaurant. ceviche was ok for an appetizer. the waiter recommended the halibut with lemon butter and capers. it was so delicious and the fish was so fresh and flakey. chefs kiss. read more

Meh. Catalina is not really a foodie's island anyways. Disappointing miso soup (that cost wayyyy too much), okay sushi, and oily seaweed salad. But, I think that you shouldn't come to Catalina expecting stellar Japanese food. The fish tacos, however, met expectations. Good fish and vibrant flavors. Well done. The restaurant doesn't accommodate parties over 6 very well, so if you have more people I recommend trying another place. read more
If you're roaming around Catalina Island and need a good seafood fix, NDMK should definitely be on your radar. It's one of the top three spots to eat in Avalon, mainly because the food is so good. We had the swordfish and the ahi tuna poke bowl, and both dishes were super fresh and tasty. Even though all the fish they use is not local a good part of it is. The place itself is alright - nothing super flashy, but clean enough. The service is pretty standard; nothing to write home about but it does the job. The prices aren't too steep either, which is always a plus. All in all, NDMK's great food makes it totally worth a visit while you're on the island. read more

No lie - it's a new favorite. We are here twice in on weekend, and eating in restaurants is our main activity when we come to Avalon. The quality of the fish was amazing, and they really live up to their ethos. Definitely recommend the ceviche - it's top notch! read more
Food: Portions were pretty small. Blackened Mahi Mahi was about 33, can't remember the exact since they don't show you pricing on the menu for plates. Blackened is two extra bucks. Fish was super fresh and good though, but barely enough for one person. Tuna poke bowl was a better size, since it had rice. Tuna was also pretty fresh. Sushi roll was ok, could do with or without it. But because portion sizes were small, we did need some appetizer. They only had like three appetizers available from their menu, which was shocking. Also half the sushi menu was salmon, and they didn't even have that available. You'd think a restaurant on the weekend during dinner service would have most of their menu available... Service: the service was ok, the waiter helped us order and got us three bottles of water since they don't have water in cups available...? Didn't check up on us during the meal, which is fine, but as we were paying and the tip option came up, the server tapped on 20% himself. That was the first time a server ever decided what to tip himself automatically. Overall, food is good but the service, lack of availability on menu, and portion sizes was subpar. read more
