After watching The Great British Baking show the other day, when they make bagels, I have been craving a toasted bagel with cream cheese. Since I was picking up my cat's meds in the same shopping center, I decided to try Naval bagels for the first time. I got an everything bagel with cream cheese. The bagel was toasted perfectly and I really liked that they had coated the whole bagel, not just the top, in the everything seasoning. The cream cheese was generous, which I also appreciated, but it was in a big clump in the middle, so a bit messy to try to spread it out a bit for eating in the car before my next errands. The staff seemed in a hurry, because they were closing soon, but having never been there before and not knowing their hours before walking in to, I didn't appreciate the comment about how they were closing soon that was clearly a bit annoyed. However, the service overall was mostly friendly and the weather is crappy today, so I can understand them wanting to get done and get home. read more

I used to love Naval Bagels. They make a tasty bagel, have a nice atmosphere and nice employees. And I love a good chewy bagel which I felt like they had perfected. But the last 3 times I have gotten a dozen bagels here, they have been very dry! Maybe I have been too late in the day ( noon on a Sunday?) but the bagels tasted either stale or overcooked. I have had to toast them to make them taste fresher, which is disappointing. Something I would do for a grocery store bagel, but not with a good, fresh product. I hope it is fluke rather than slipping quality, but I 'm concerned because my most recent trip was the driest they have been. When I tasted them I wished I had saved money and bought the day old bagged bagels because it seemed that the quality would be similar. Maybe they just don't have enough turnover at this branch to ensure a really fresh bagel? read more

I've been coming to Naval Bagels for YEARS, at least once a week most weeks! Naval Bagels is my all time favorite breakfast spot, and I've recommended it to everyone I know. Most of the staff at the Arnold location is BY FAR the nicest, most respectful staff I've seen in just about any business. A few of them have memorized my order and are just so sweet to me when I come in, it really makes me feel like this quaint bagel shop really cares about their customers. One of the best bagel places around. I stop here EVERY TIME on my way to the Eastern Shore. The bagels are fresh and delicious with a lot of variety, all sandwiches are full and fat with fresh ingredients (say that 5 times fast...), and everyone is friendly. Naval Bagels is my weekend (and sometimes weekday morning) savior! After a long night of being out or before a long day at work, Naval Bagels is just what I need to get me through the day. It's been family owned for years (the original is in Annapolis by the Naval Academy) and this is a semi new addition to the Arnold Station. Great service, I am always greeted with a smile (even at 6am!) and have gotten to know the staff pretty well now. You can call orders in minutes or days in advance and they will have it ready when you need it. While you are waiting for your order, you can read some of the newspapers they post daily on the walls, or learn a random fun fact from the daily news white board. Always entertaining. They have your typical breakfast sandwiches - any combo of bacon, sausage, ham, egg, cheese you could want. Very yummy! They have really good lunch bagels and also have premade salads in their fridge - my favorite sammies are the Avocado Delight and the Naval Bagel. Delish! read more

If you are looking for "commercial blah" bagels this is NOT the place for you ... also keep in mind they cater and do a great job! Made the mistake of going here a second time because of the good reviews but same result. I ordered a breakfast bagel with bacon and cheese. It was dry and doughy with some kind of processed cheese (Velveeta?) and the non existent bacon was basically granulated and mixed with the egg. The whole thing was a dry tasteless lump that I tossed out after two bites and the kicker was they use STYROFOAM CUPS! for thier coffee. You would think a local company this near the Chesapeake would be more environmentally conscious. I recommend avoiding at all costs read more

We've eaten here for years. Today at 1:15 we came in. Two people ordering. Already staff is sweeping, rolling up entrance mats, no selection of bagels left, service was slow, brought in outside tables and chairs at 1:40. Couldn't sit outside so ate in car. Bagels got a B-. A sliver of cheese on my bagel. At 1:45, 5 people walk in. They close at 2. Closed sign up at 1:50. I'm ok with imperfect bagels but I can't stand apathetic unwelcoming employees. Clearly they are not interested in working and don't want customers. However there is a silver lining: since the employees couldn't wait to get out of there, we suspect they bagged a lot of their bagels early and threw them in the "day old bagels" basket. 6 for $1.50. We bought 18 bagels for a great price and obviously they were baked that day! So if you show up at 1:45 on a Sunday and see hardly any selection but a full basket of day-olds, you can get a great deal!! read more

My kids go to Arundel Pediatrics, so I stop in here whenever we have a check up. I'm a sucker for a good Jalapeno bagel, and of all the ones I've tried, this place has the BEST! I've tried a few of their own creations, and loved them all, but the jalapeno bagel will always have my heart. Yeah, $3 and change for a bagel and cream cheese is a little steep, but it's definitely a better choice than the McDonald's for breakfast. read more

Tucked into a strip mall next to a liquor store and behind a McD's, you may be tempted to pass this one by or miss it altogether. Do yourself a favor, though.....make the effort and stop in! This place is truly a local gem....with a board on the wall with high and low-tide info, quirky facts for the day, celebrity birthdays, etc. Their breakfast sandwiches are fantastic, and you can call ahead and they'll be ready when you get there if you're in a hurry. The Bagels are good and so are their bagel sandwiches. That said, make sure you go early because they very quickly run out of different flavors and almost always seem to run out of plain. My last three visits they've run out of plain. I stopped going there in the past because they would run out. Maybe it's just me but I think if you have the name Bagel in your name and Bagels are what you do, you should have the most basic Bagel available. I can only speak for their breakfast sandwiches and bagels- and they both never disappoint. The sandwiches are always full, and I almost always grab a bag of day-old bagels whenever I visit. They usually have a pretty good selection with these as well. Their lunch menu looks good and I have had friends say they love some items I've just never tried it. I'm only giving 4 stars because there have been some instances in which my bagel sandwich was definitely over toasted. read more

Great local bagel shop, they have a wide variety of bagels and recommended favorites and can also make anything custom you want. They are usually pretty busy so calling ahead helps skip the crowd and wait times. A little $ but ok for once or twice a month. read more

How is this place busy? I get it, we are not in NY but the bagels are horrible. Ordered 2 toasted bagels, one w/ cream cheese, one with butter. Waited for literally 25 mins to receive my order. The bagels were under undercooked, flimsy and not toasted. There was about 8 inches of cream cheese and butter slapped on them. Who would ever eat it like that? Not edible. Waste of time and money. Somehow this place seems to have a crowd. Someone should open a bagel place next door - a half decent effort would blow this place out of the water. read more

This place gives bagels a bad name!! The most amateur bagels I've ever had. I got the blueberry bagel and the cinnamon apple bagel. Niether tasted like their name and the blueberry one was literally just colored blue! It did not taste like blueberry at all!!! They also put a 10 inch slab of cream cheese on your bagel which is complete overkill. If your going to go here I suggest turning your car around, going to safeway and buying a $4 bag of Thomas' bagels. They are much better. read more
