SLICE ME I was having a moment. It was after 10pm and West Fest had just closed. I needed something in my belly to keep my Tito's company. As I was walking by, I noticed a sign in the window for a $2.25 pizza slice. I know it was not the healthiest choice but I could hear the voices in my head encouraging me to just walk in. So I walked in and was greeted nicely by the staff. I asked for a slice and I was informed there was one pepperoni left. It looked lonely and sad on its glass Merry-go-round pizza tray. I was doing that pizza slice an honor by eating him. My slice was quickly tossed on a piece of foil and then into a brown paper bag. That totally classed up my dinner. I also received containers of Parmesan cheese and pepper flakes to go. I quickly sat at the table to dress my slice up with the toppings and took a bite. Honestly it wasn't bad and was exactly what I needed. Was it the best pizza ever? No! Would I go out of my way to order a whole pizza here? Probably not. But in a pinch I would definitely come back when I needed a late night snack. So after a few bites, I tossed my pizza into the bag and jumped on the bus. As I rode home I could hear the pizza calling me, so I opened the bag and took a few more bites. The crust was good but not thin at all. I would call it more of a medium crust. I really love thin crust or deep dish. Medium crust, which is what this pizza was made of is just to bready for me. The sauce was tasty but there was not a lot of pepperon on it. I love it when my pizza has pepperoni in every bite. So I was happy to find this place when I needed it most. Bookmark it for future West Town visits because a slice of pizza can hit the spot after a day of festing in Chicago.

I gotta admit that I didn't have high expectations for this place due to the pictures on the wall. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the pizza and the value here. Slices are less than $3 and filling. Sauce has a sweet taste to it and the crust is a hearty medium. Straight cheese was better than pepperoni in my opinion. The pizza reminded me of something that I can't really identify but it's worth a try if you are in the neighborhood. They also sell just about any fast food item you can think of and whole pizzas if it's for a group.

Note that, signs…read moreindicate to only enter this location from the curbside, as the pretty patio-side in the plaza area is not an entry. So, from the curbside entry, there is a waiting room with benches on the left and right side, and a greeting desk ahead in the center. When called, we ascended on the far left and entered the dining area. It was quite busy. We were shown a table and took our seats. We chose a classic deep dish pie and a gluten free pizza - all to share. We also ordered an Italian salad to share. Highly recommend the Italian salad. It is a chopped salad and highly flavorful and fresh. This is the first item delivered to our table. They offer a thin 12 inch GF crust, and we always try GF when available. The menu indicated that several sauces are GF. I can happily report that the pizza was quite enjoyable. The toppings were fresh and generous. The edges were crisp but the rest was soft while also not getting too mushy. The deep dish was the final food arrival at our table. The menu and waitstaff are clear about it taking around 40 minutes for the deep dish to cook. The wait was totally worth it. Also note, the 10 inch may sound small, but it's unlikely that many people would want to eat more than two slices of this at a sitting - the slices are like two inches thick! Because we had already shared salad and GF pizza - we had a lot of leftovers. Totally worth it. Now, the one hitch here - the womens restroom was beyond atrocious. I mean, diapers, pads, paper, and debris piled up and overflowing from every tiny trash bin in every stall - Add to that non- flushed messes and more mess on the fixtures and floors - And an empty paper towel dispenser. Frankly, they need a big trash barrel in there- the volume of diapers alone was too large for the available recepticals. Clearly, many menstruating folks are trying to dispose of used products, and if the teeny tiny stall mounted trash pockets are stuffed with diapers and other used items... Well. Reader, you likely see where the his is going... I cannot even fathom the reason for the rest of the mess. So, restroom hard no. Generally - if you have a business that encounters a large number of stroller folks- expect related mess and account for it. Especially in busy Chicago where strollers are obnoxiously present everywhere - just read the room!

The pizza was very disappointing and greasy, and for the price, just not worth it. I ordered the mozzarella triangles, and they were like 16$ for a few pieces. Service was fine, not super present but they did check in at the right times. The pizza is the star here. Easily one of the best crust textures I've had. Super thin, super crispy, and holds up without getting soggy. 9.7/10. The pepperoni + hot honey combo was perfect. The flavor was amazing and everything just worked together perfectly. 9.8/10. The Italian beef + giardiniera half was good too, more savory and heavier, but the meat had more of a pulled texture than actual than expected. 7.5/10. The seafood skillet didn't really land for me. It had too much wine flavor and the breadcrumbs got soggy fast. 4/10. Overall, come here for the pizza only. That's what makes this spot worth fighting for reservations.

The onion rings, though, were absolutely fantastic. Service was top notch, and we were so well taken care of. I honestly can't imagine how they handled so many customers that night--kudos to the team. And the bathrooms were super clean, which I always appreciate. I'd definitely go back for a pint and to watch the game.

Service is excellent and our server was attentive, making the birthday celebration of the evening extra special. The food....out of this world. One of the best tavern pizzas in the city. Food reviews: Truffle and mushroom tavern--light and well balanced. Delicate sweet notes from the red onion balance out the earthiness of the mushroom, truffle and charred crust. Cheese doesn't overwhelm the pie and compliments all ingredients with a salty bite Spicy vodka and sausage--so different than the first pie but equally as delicious! Vodka sauce has a deep flavor with only subtle heat. Sausage packs a ton of flavor. Heavier of the two pies since it had more cheese on it but my husband enjoyed Chocolate peanut butter sundae--birthday celebration treat brought by our server! Wow it's a must order. The puppy chow was an insanely smart ingredient to add for texture and bit of chocolate. Can't wait to return to try another specialty pie!
