The crust is VERY crisp and a bit charred. To my taste, there's not quite enough cheese but that's a matter of personal taste. The pizza is minimalist - just crust, mozzarella, tomatoes, and a bit of seasoning. No toppings, don't even ask. The owner is a great guy who really knows his stuff, a pizza nerd in the best possible way. This is a Pink Line station. You're not coming here for the fine dining atmosphere. Simple, no frills pizza shop right inside the 18th street pink line stop. Owner makes good pizza. And it's worth the $5. Extremely light and crisp slice. Reminds me a lot of the extremely popular Ceres pizza in NYC (except the catch with Ceres is you're dropping like $50+ for the whole dang pie). Owner is super friendly. Gave us some blue berries he got from Michigan which he says he does on the weekends. So that was nice, too! Would definitely recommend if you're in the area! read more

Came all the way from Rogers Park (well, I was in Lincoln Park when I decided to come down) specifically for the pizza here. As someone who lived in NYC for a few years, this really takes me back. Even the attitude of the place feels NYC--there's only two things here: cheese pizza and coffee. Period. And the pizza itself takes me back to NYC, the charred crust, the balance of the sauce and cheese. There's obviously a lot of attention to the quality of ingredients here. I'd come back to Pilsen for this again. It's kinda crazy that this place is IN the 18th St pink line station, which is beautifully decked out, easily the most vibrant station I've been to. I have been trying to get my hands on a slice of this pizza for a long time but because of my work hours I was never able to. I finally got one yesterday. They have 2 different pizzas, the regular cheese and their special. I forgot what the special was but I opted for their cheese. We also got a free cherry with our order, which was the first thing I ate and it was extremely fresh and crunchy. As soon as I saw the slice, I knew I made a great choice. The crust was so thin and crispy, the sauce was sweet and perfect. Everything I love in pizza was on this slice. I will definitely be coming back now that I'm on summer hours. Now this is a no frills pizza spot, for real pizza lovers only. You come in and you get a slice, you can eat it right there at the pink line station and you can just enjoy the classic flavors of a fresh cheese slice for just $5. We came in and got a slice of the cheese and a slice of the special. Both were great but I'm always impressed when someone can do a plain cheese slice and make me want more. The crust is crispy, light, has the right amount of char to it. The cheese is light too, just like a classic slice in NY. The sauce - we kept talking about the sauce and the owner told us how simple the recipe was - either he was being modest or he just has a special touch because the sauce really did make this plain cheese slice stand out. If you've ever been on pizza tours across the US, this is reminiscent of a New Haven slice as well. Just overall good and simple concept. I don't think it needs to be over complicated! read more

My wife is from New York and impossible to please with Chicago pizza. She does not like Chicago pizza. It will lead to our eventual divorce. I'm Southside Chicago through and through. I got her a slice from Chomp and she thought it was closest thing to NY that's she's had in Chicago. We've tried a lot! She actually like it. The guy working was cool and likable. He told me had some unfortunate interactions with earlier customers. Which adds to the "character" of grabbing a slice inside a slightly sketch L stop. Don't be afraid. Pull up. Who knew you can get a legit ny slice in Pilsen! Stopped in yesterday after hockey in need of a slice. Walked in the 18th st pink line station and it's right on the left. Quality slices, beautifully fermented dough cooked with a lovely char that balances all of the flavors (with this type pizza you want a little char to accentuate the dough's deliciously fermented flavor and texture. I recently took the short Pink Line ride from my office near Clinton to the 18th Street stop to check out Chomp Pizza, which has been blowing up on my Instagram feed. Kinda out of nowhere. I went with a coworker, and we were both highly impressed. Definitely the best NY style slice I've had in years (and I live near Zazas so that's saying a lot). This is a serious operation. The owner, Travis, clearly possesses an extreme amount of technical knowledge regarding dough and general pizza making. His passion for the craft is obvious, and the results are excellent. He was also incredibly friendly and welcoming. I also noticed Travis wearing a Janie's Mill hoodie. They mill their organic grains to order. So super fresh stuff! I use their flour myself and know the quality is top-tier; seeing him use a high-grade, local product solidifies his commitment to making the best pizza. Will be back. Regularly. read more

Using Janie's Mill flour, he's crafted a crust that's light, airy, and has a perfect shatter-crisp crunch. No frills, no crazy toppings, just a massive 20-inch NY-style pie served on a paper plate that puts the NYC legends to shame. So light, so good.... This is the best pizza in Chicago and is on par with with John's on Bleeker in NYC which is amazing. I believe this man to be a true artist. Some online reviews are complaining about no toppings - he is keeping it simple and perfect. A slice of plain for $5 (yes PLAIN as cheese on pizza is a given, asking for a slice of cheese is idiotic as cheese comes on pizza) is a beyond a reasonable price for this.
