UPDATED REVIEW:
Okay, so I decided to edit my original review of Natomas Optometry for several reasons:
1. They responded and reached out
2. An explanation and solution was provided and agreed on
3. They followed through and followed-up
4. Product received was amazing in quality and care
My glasses arrived about a month and a half later. I ordered them on May 1st, and received them on June 16th. But hear me out, they have absolutely no control over your insurance's lab. Unfortunately, I learned that VSP (my insurance) has been backed up and it took them ages to get my order completed. However, Dr. Ryan Nakamura from Natomas Optometry reached out and provided a respectful and thorough explanation of what was going on. He also was very generous and offered me a free additional set of lenses on the house (which he definitely did not have to). He also assigned a staff to be my main point of contact for correspondence. She is a wonderful liaison - Stella. Over the course of the following weeks, since I talked to Dr. Nakamura, Stella and I spoke to each other almost every week to check-in. She helped me pick out my additional frame for the new lenses. She also worked diligently to request a partial refund from VSP due to the delay. I am incredibly happy with both of my glasses. They are beautiful.
I changed my review from 2 stars to 5, because I feel situations are very circumstantial. What a business owner decides to do in these scenarios are very telling of how they operate their business. And of course, as a customer, we should also be respectful on our end. Dr. Nakamura and his team did not have to provide a free additional set of lenses, request a partial refund from VSP, or even dedicate as much time for correspondence and care. They could have just said "sorry, we can't control this", which would have been fine too, but it's just the extra steps they CHOSE to do that really changes the experience.
Thanks, guys. I will be back. And I will recommend.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I put in the order for my glasses on May 1st, 2020. A few months prior to this, I had gotten my eye exam and picked out my frames so the process on May 1st was fairly smooth. They told me it should take a couple weeks or maybe longer, because of everything that has been going on with COVID-19, which I understand. Three weeks later I called to check, because I have not heard back from them, but still no glasses. I called back a day or two later to see, still no glasses. They called me back and let me know there was a scratch on my lens and it would have to get sent back. They told me it should be finished by next week. A week later (now four weeks in), I called to check - still no glasses. An incredibly sweet and empathetic receptionist called the lab and the lab has not even started the process yet (because of the memorial weekend). She told me it will most likely come in next week. So now we will be five weeks in - over a month. I still have not received my glasses. I paid over $300 for these and feel like I have been just waiting and waiting. Given the reviews I see, it makes me feel that this is a rare circumstance, but still, I am frustrated.
I did appreciate that they did a thorough check on my glasses and saw that there was a scratch and sent it back to the lab to get it fixed. Again, more waiting, but I understood the process. I'd rather they find the scratch and send it back, versus me not noticing it and it damaging my vision. The customer service is a hit and miss. And don't get me wrong, I've spoken to several of their staff. Some are really friendly and incredibly empathetic, some were rude and very short with you. At times, I felt as if I was an inconvenience to them by calling to check on my glasses.
Another thing I forgot to mention was awhile back when I was in the process of selecting my frames and lens options (I forgot her name, but she was an older white lady) I am pretty sure the person who helped me was judging my education and status level by what I was wearing, and was really condescending. I think I was in a hoodie and some leggings. I get it, but I was just lazy you know? I didn't want to dress up. We've all had those days. But she was pushing me to select a more expensive lens option. And when I said no, she kept asking if I was sure... "Are you sure? Do you know what AR means? Anti-reflective. Do you know what anti-reflective means?" I told her yes, and she continued to give me the definition of it anyway... then she went on to continue to define other terms to me. Then she brought up research articles and asked if I understood research (research regarding the benefits of certain products)... lady, please stop.
Overall, I don't necessarily not like them, but I don't love them either. This is solely based on my experience. I am sure if things had gone a different way I would have given them at least 3-4 stars, depending on who I interacted with. I hope this helped. read more
