This hidden gem has a great menu, which includes hearty homestyle favorites, like the incredible hamburger steak. It also has seafood dishes, including sone great shrimp and catfish options. Then there are the po-boys, sandwiches and wraps. There are full meal and smaller salads for grazing. And one of my favorite features is the side dish selections. One can customize one's meal with these to be hearty to healthy or a combination thereof! The finest though is the homestyle baked macaroni and cheese, at least in my humble opinion. Service is friendly and attentive, and the prices are fair. You should try out this little local place for a satisfying experience in Slidell.

More than just friendly, the staff are always cheerful. The shop is a little small and the tables are close together so it can get crowded at peak times. Sometimes the music is loud, which makes a crowded restaurant that much worse. The restaurant is always clean and brightly lit. One of the people who got a po-boy said it wasn't regular mayo on the po-boy, but rather either tahini or tzatziki. Now mind you, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but could be jarring for someone not expecting it. The falafel and baklava were mine. I thought that the falafel wrap was good: flavorful and saucy. It was a bit messy, but I seem to always make a mess when eating falafel sandwiches. I was excited about the baklava, but unfortunately it wasn't very good. Maybe it had been sitting for a while, I don't know, but the flaky pastry had lost some of its flakiness/crispiness and had become a bit chewy instead. One odd thing is that you get your food bagged at the checkout counter, which is separate from the food counter. This doesn't sound bad in theory, but meant I ended up carefully holding 3 hot sandwiches, a small takeout container, and a menu while waiting in line at the checkout counter. For our first visit, we chose seats on their spacious patio, where turtle and bird watching abound. The lunch was fantastic. We tried the Brazilian steak bites, which were fantastic. For our entrees I did the poke bowl and my date tried the brisket Mac and cheese. Everything was delicious! We also tried their cocktails: the pink pony club and the gin cocktail. Both were great! We had such a great time we decided to return less than a week later to try the brunch. The passionfruit jalapeño mimosa is what's up. We like to sit at the bar in restaurants and chat with people. Last night, we enjoyed chatting with the bartender Carol and her friend who is another local. I started off with a killer dirty martini! Carol knows how to make a good one! She, the cooks and entire staff are so appreciated! They were a lot of fun. Carol was so nice, very attentive and saw to every need of her customers. They offer Happy Hour 3-6:00 which included OYSTERS, raw or chargrilled! So I had both...raw and chargrilled. Terry stuck with the grilled. The raw oysters were amazing! Plumper, meatier, creamy and mild and less briny than East Coast NC and VA oysters. These are the kind of oysters you also want to fry! They were so perfect and so delicious! Next came out the Chargrilled Oysters...drenched and grilled with a melted Parmesan, Garlic, Herb Butter Sauce and served with slices of warm, garlic French bread to sop up the hot butter sauce that pooled at the bottom of the tray. Oh my oh my oh my! Shut the front door OUTSTANDING! Terry and I relished every single bite, I may have been moaning as I kept saying how delicious they were. Perfection on an oyster shell. We shared 2 doz chargrilled plus I had a doz raw with cocktail sauce and freshly grated horseradish. I seriously think I could have had more oysters! Terry also ordered their fried mushrooms, best we ever had! We ate like Kings and Queens. Dragos is on our list to go to but if we don't make it there this time, I'm so happy with NOLA Southern Grill's chargrilled oysters, I'm good, I don't need to go.
