Got a gift card for this place so decided to try it out! I liked the thought of sitting on an upper porch balcony right next to the bayou. My boyfriend and I started out with a couple appetizers (everything sounded good lol). We got the bacon scallops and the crab stuffed mushrooms. Both were really tasty although I didn't taste the crab. We also got a cup of the chicken and sausage gumbo and that was very good and favorable! I would get that and the scallops again. For our entrees we got the trout almandine that came with a side of snap peas and the oyster platter that came with their fries and Texas toast. Both were really good (don't usually care for toast though). For an oyster platter you'd think you would get more then 8 oysters but they were very good! Really liked their fries too. For dessert, we got the creme brûlée and the chocolate lava cake. They were both pretty good although I've had much better creme brûlée so I don't get it again from here. The lava cake was a little too sweet for me but thats just my taste. I can say that we will be returning! read more

I'll preface by saying I've been in the food service business for over 40 years. My daughter got married in the sprawling city of Picayune, Ms on a Saturday in September. A small, small ceremony and she didn't want a reception but wanted to have family and a few friends for dinner afterwards. There are really zero places in Picayune suitable for a small group of 20 that were appropriate for the event and Slidell was the closest town. We reserved a small room for 20+ on Saturday at 5:00 PM. We ended up arriving nearly 40 minutes late. She had heard of Nathan's (and especially their bread pudding) so I contacted them and talked with Andy, the manager and a very good person to deal with. From the first call they did everything they could to make this a simple and pleasant evening, and it was. They set up a cake table in a small private dining room. The room was just big enough for a long table for 26, with a view of the bayou the restaurant is situated on. It also had an exit to the balcony which also serves as a smoking area. This is a nice little place, with seating for I'd guess about 100 or less, with a main room, bar, and two small(ish) private rooms. Quiet (except for our group) with a nice wine selection and linens, to give you an idea. Also, the restaurant is elevated about 10 feet so there's both a wide exterior staircase and an elevator for guests. The restaurant looks out over the bayou and so there is a nice view. The menu is a mix of Louisiana fare, steaks, some other "American" dishes and so on. We just used a limited menu for the group. We had their chicken gumbo which was first rate and rivaled most that I have had (or prepared during my several decades as a chef). We had a reisling, a cabernet, another wine that I don't recall as well as a Brut champagne for a toast. Some had bar drinks and everyone was pleased. I know that of the items ordered, some had the fried seafood (excellent), the rib-eye (also got positive comments), the Alfredo chicken with angel hair pasta. I had the bacon-wrapped pork loin with mashed potatoes and haricot verts and it was great. The mashed potatoes were creamy and rich rather than fluffy and with just enough tiny lumps to let you know they were the real deal :-) The pork was tender, moist, flavorful and very well prepared. Green beans were prepared from fresh and were tender but just crisp and flavorful (al dente :-) Got raves about the bread pudding too. Service was outstanding. Our server LIsa must have logged five miles running around taking care of us and did an excellent job. Prompt, attentive and fast as well as being low-key and unobtrusive. Food service was fast (in the context of a relaxed service style) and they expedited meals for the 4 kids (3-9 years old). I noticed that, when half of our table went outside to smoke, it was very nice and relaxing and quiet inside. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience from beginning to end and will plan on making a trip there when I travel through Slidell, which I do several times a year. This is a sort of little hidden gem that you may want to check out if you get the chance. Have some bread pudding for sure! read more

Pleasant atmosphere with a view of the bayou if you like. Delicious food from steaks to seafood.

This is the second time eaten here. Both time food has been great. Service was on the spot warm and friendly. The room temperature was slightly cool, bring a light jacket. The main dinning are was a little noisy. We had a table next to the window and the noise level was perfect. The fried oysters, wedge salad, ribeye, and drinks made for a perfect evening. Very disappointing place. Reviews on there website must be friends because this place in no way ranks even one star. Very expensive especially for the low quality of the food and drinks. My ordered the surf and turf. Her steak was rare after she ordered medium well, her soft shell crab was cooked to a crisp. $12 dollars for an order of about 6 onion rings. The shrimp with my meal were frozen imported. Drinks were very small with barely any liquor. read more

Ate here last night with friends. We all ordered the Wednesday special which is Surf & Turf. It consisted of a 6oz filet, small soft shell crab and a twice baked potato. Three of us ordered a side salad. The blue cheese dressing on the salad was the real stuff. Steaks were done as ordered and the crab was fried to perfection. Seating was COVID distancing. I definitely love the view at Nathan's. I tried the Southwest steak wrap. I personally thought it was good. It was greasy so it may not taste good to everyone, but I liked the flavors. It had tender steak, bell peppers, onions, cheddar cheese, and a sweet and spicy salsa. My only complaint is our waitress forgot to bring our appetizers out, but in her defense it was really busy. read more

Ate there early yesterday evening. Had a dozen chargrilled oysters that were very good. Ordered the broiled stuffed redfish. The fish was well cooked with a very nice sauce but the shrimp stuffing was very salty and the shrimp were very over cooked and hard as rocks. Fortunately I used a restaurant.com voucher so my $55 bill was really only $30 plus tip. The meal would have been worth $30 but $55 was a bit rich. The location is fine for lunch and the lunch specials are generally very nice and priced well. I hadn't eaten dinner there in three years and doubt that I will for at least that long again. read more

The food and staff are just amazing. Started off with the fired eggplant sticks, and the fried calamari, Both were amazing. Order the Filet with a side of Alfredo noodles, and a side salad with homemade honey mustard dressing. The Chef Ross is a monster in the kitchen, everything was cooked from scratch. The restaurant has an amazing view over the bayou with a great deck and a marina outside. Gena the waitress was great she's one of the owners. Family owned and family ran this is a great place for a lunch special, or with a group of people for a dinner party. read more

Got a chance to try the other night. Had the seafood platter, and "I believe" a shrimp manicotti? The platter was a typical 6 fish strips, 6 oysters, 6 shrimp, 2 stuffed shrimp, and a stuffed crab ?, atop a bed of fries. It was alright once we separated it from the fries. They were a bit much, but the onion rings were on top, and were much lighter and crisper. The seafood manicotti really "didn't look like much"- but boy was it ultimate.. bite after bite was a full shrimp stuffed, cheesy, creamed spinach and crab with a rich creme sauce in every bite. We ate that thing for a while. For dessert was a warm brownie with ice cream on top. The couple next to us was from gulf shores, coming HERE to visit?!?! I told my wife "maybe they'd be interested in a house swap???" I guess everything gets old sometimes. Because we talk about going to (Lambert's/fairhope/gulf shores) all the time. It's just a fun area. But those people decided to drive the hours to come here and the waitress told them place after place to go. The southern hospitality was flowing out of her like speech does after a strong wine ! Hopefully we'll be able to return soon. The meal was so filling and rich I almost fell asleep while driving the 30 miles home ... I couldn't move for a few hours. We scraped the bottom of the bowl almost eating the tips off of our fingers. When we got home it was easy to fall out after all of that heavy, thick, creamy sauce, shrimp, crab and spinach..... it was ultimate..... read more

Am frankly surprised at the negative posts on Nathans. Having heard it is under new ownership (we were disappointed by previous visits under the original owners), we decided to give it a try for Mother's Day. From the appetizers to the entrees (delicious filet topped by oysters, broiled stuffed reddish, wonderful grilled tuna), we could not have been more pleased by the food and service that were both impeccable. Will definitely return in the near future. read more

My husband and I decided to dine at Nathan's on the first cool night of the season because we wanted a romantic atmosphere. It was nothing like we remembered. We sat in the enclosed porch area where the lights were bright, there were no candles on the table (reminder, this was a Friday night) and I think 101.9 was playing. :-/ I think Piccadilly has dimmer lighting than they did. I ordered a salad, which in the end I got comped, I didn't eat my gumbo bc it was way too salty , I don't know if they comped that or not. My boyfriend got a shrimp and eggplant dish that was not as good as the last time we dined here, which is the why we decided to go there (tasted more like quick Campbell's soup mix). Waitress wore no make up and hair was in a messy bun (not a cute pinteresty one either). I know the owners just opened another restaurant and they may be overextended, I just hope that they hire the right people to take care of Nathan's bc I would hate to see once good food and atmosphere go to waste. Will go to Michaels, Young's, or Palmettos the next time romance is in the air. read more

The location is good and it's fun to get to via boat. The balcony dining is good but limited by the lack of larger/nicer views. The service (especially by Andy) is 5 star. The seafood is where I'd stick to on the menu. I'm not a fan of their steaks after trying the filet and ribeye. They look like good cuts but the charbroiled style isn't for me. I've always enjoyed the seafood: oysters and fish. Bar is nice and has a good selection. The dinning room is also pretty. Good, finer dining in Slidell. read more

Really fantastic fresh seafood and great service. The fish almondine was incredible as was the redfish with shrimp stuffing. Be sure to finish the meal with bread pudding and you won't be disappointed. This is a new favorite and we will definitely be back! read more

We really enjoyed our meal tonight. I had a ribeye which was cooked exactly the way I wanted it. My wife order the fried oyster platter which she enjoyed but she didn't care for the fries so the waitress immediately brought her a twice baked potato which was delicious. Nice view on the porch , but pretty pricy for lunch , and all of our food could only be termed mediocre or worse. Nobody really liked it. I think they need a new chef badly. Wouldn't really recommend. read more

We've dined here on many occasions over the last few years. Last night we met old friends from New Orleans for dinner. Our friends were very pleasantly surprised to find such delicious food at a restaurant in Slidell. Or, should I say, at a restaurant outside their city! Two of us had the special Buster soft shell crabs, one had the lasagna, and I had the Trout Amandine. We all started with a Caesar salad. The Caesar was fresh, crisp Romaine, perfectly tossed with a tangy, creamy Caesar dressing accented with shavings of Parmesan. Yum! The only thing missing was freshly cracked black pepper. The trout was fresh, perfectly prepared, and perfectly accented with melted butter with toasted almonds. Everyone else was very happy. The only complaint we had was our absent minded waitress forgot a few things and forgot about us a few times but the other waitress took care of us. The bartender could also learn how to make a better Cosmo but maybe I'm the only one who doesn't like my Cosmo sweet like syrup. I prefer no sugar added to my drinks. I'll know next time to stick with a glass of wine. Very, very nice night! read more

Yum!!! Went here for Father's Day. Had the calamari and fried eggplant sticks for appetizers. Delicious! I had the fried shrimp platter for my meal and everyone else with me had one of the specials. We all raved about our food. I wasn't overly impressed by any of the desserts. We got the bread pudding (way too sweet, in my opinion) and the key lime pie (nothing extraordinary). read more

My wife and I ate dinner here last Saturday and it was incredible! The smoked oyster appetizer was absolutely delicious and flavorful. Our entrées were perfect. She had the surf and turf(scallops and steak) and I had paneed pork loin covered in butter and crabmeat and both of our meals were outstanding. The highlight of the evening was the sweet potato hash served as a side with my dinner. Do yourself a favor and order this absolutely delicious dish. The service was not great but the quality of the food by far made up for any deficiencies in service. I cannot recommend this restaurant strongly enough. read more

Nathan's fails to deliver both in quality and service. As a supporter of locally owned restaurants I was excited to give Nathan's Restaurant another try. A friend had been a couple of months ago and she reported a fantastic meal and we were looking forward to experiencing that same magic last night. We arrived to a restaurant that had one other table in its dining room and an ample serving staff for the two tables in its dining room. We started our meals with a cocktail and conversation. I ordered an Old Fashion from the bar, the bartender had a heavy hand with the simple syrup and the drink was too sweet. My friend who also ordered an Old Fashion fixed hers with another shot of bourbon, I fixed mine by ordering a beer. We finally ordered our appetizers, I ordered a half dozen raw oysters and a half dozen chargrilled. The oysters were on the small size and priced at $9 and $11 respectfully was a little high, it lead me to believe I was going to receive a better quality oyster. I understand we are in August and out of season, with oysters in August it is a "you get what you get and don't throw a fit situation". The chargrilled oysters came out very nice and were a pleasant surprise as I have not found a place that does a good chargrilled oyster in Slidell. Unfortunately this would be the end of good surprises for the rest of the evening. Our server had a problem with keeping drinks full and in front of us, as we are all having wine and beer with dinner it should be easy when you have one table to make sure the people have drinks. She also came across as not wanting to be at the restaurant and was very short and sighed a lot. I ordered Nathan's surf and turf and my wife ordered his Ribeye, both are were ordered medium rare. Both steaks were cooked past medium rare, the ribeye was more medium and the fat content saved it. My filet was more medium well and I had to send it back. The waitress then took my plate, including my potato and asparagus to the kitchen leaving me with nothing to eat while the rest of my party ate. When the new steak came out it was missing the potato and asparagus and was cooked to a rare akin to tartare. The chef simply charred and plated this steak. At this point I had given up on eating dinner at Nathan's. The chef had instructed the server to remove my plate from the bill. After paying the bill I went to the bartender to ask if the owner/manager would be in tomorrow so I could call him and discuss my dinner with him, I had just paid over $100 to leave a restaurant hungry and wanted to bring this to his attention. A patron at the bar said that the owner was in the kitchen and I asked the bartender if I could speak to him. The owner/"chef" Ross Eirich came out to speak to me. Before listening to our complaints about the service and the meal he asked me if I made mistakes and what I did for a living. He continued to berate me in his dining room in front of the other table dining at the time. I am taking time today to warn everyone that falls for the "I had a great dinner at Nathan's" line, my third time to this restaurant ended like the other two, disappointed with service and overpriced food that does not stand out from any other menu in Slidell. If you want a nice meal in Slidell go to Michael's or Asunta's. read more

Reserved the private dining room for a bridal shower and had EXCELLENT service all the way from setup (perfect linens, assistance with fresh florals) to our own waitress. The owners wife served the party of twelve with perfect timing and attentiveness. We found the menu and pricing per person to be exceptional and all our guests raved over their experience. Wanted soup and salad was told soup wasn't made!! Got the Caesar salad as my entree, my friend asked for a side Caesar, when I got mine I thought wow this isn't very much for the price I mean after all it's mostly lettuce!! Well they brought my friends "side" salad and it was almost the same size as my "entree" salad!! I definitely walked away hungry. Service was very slow, we didn't mind as we were catching up, but you wouldn't want that if you were on lunch or had somewhere to be!! We were told the kitchen was slammed but it wasn't packed. My friend got chicken salad and said there was nothing in it, no grapes, pecans etc barely any mayo, mostly dark meat?? Anyway wasn't a great experience, but I'd try it again just get something different. read more
