The fries looked promising but definitely missed the mark on being cooked. The fries tasted like they were not seasoned, sitting in a cold pan and definitely not cooked to their cooking time. The hot dogs were your typical hot dogs. I got mine plane but the toppings that you could add like cheese and chilli looked like they were sitting around way too long. Our family loves Nathan's Franks. In fact I was born in the shadow of Nathan's in Coney Island. We have watch the company transition over a lifetime to a national chain. Of course that means higher prices and shrinking product. It's sad to see what a jumbo frank has become but we never expected what we saw last night at a rest stop in Aberdeen, MD. I came to this rest stop to eat lunch. Decided on Nathan's for hot dogs and chicken. Hot dog was dry, like it was left on the warmer for way too long. The corn dog was ok. The fried chicken was like the whole bottle was poured in the batter. I ordered a 12 piece chicken, and the man putting orders together looked at me then shook his head. Now I know why. I had to peel the skin off all the chicken just to eat it. There was enough salt in one piece to give someone a heart attack. They also ran out of hot sauce somehow, but they barely look at me to tell me. The fries were big crinkle cut style. Not too bad, it was soft though. I feel like this business is a prime example of appropriately managing your expectations when anticipating a product. Yes, it's an expensive rest stop hot dog and the quality of the lemonade probably isn't the best. But is it filling? Is it easy? Is it tasty enough? I'd vote yes for all three. The cheese dog had a good crunch, the bread wasn't stale, and I enjoyed the sugar boost from the lemonade. I even had a good laugh with the cashier. I was exhausted and anxious en route to my home state in prep for a big life change, so when she asked if I wanted ice in my lemonade, I spelled out my last name as the response. So bad. Unfortunately, Nathan's breakfast menu is very, very limited only three items egg and cheese sandwich on either or a bagel or a muffin, sausage, egg and cheese or bacon, egg and cheese with a small hash brown and a juice. On November 11, 2021 in the mid-afternoon, my husband and I made a stop at the Maryland House on I-95 for a quick lunch. First, there was no one at the front to take orders or greet you. As a matter of fact, there were no customers either, just us at the time. After waiting around a couple of minutes, two people emerged from the back and came forward. The young lady unlocked the cash register while the young man put on plastic gloves. She left immediately and he approached us for our order, which he then rang up on the register. My husband then politely asked him to remove the gloves as they were no longer sanitary after touching the register. The waiter vehemently denied that he had touched it and that the girl had put the order through. THAT WAS A PLAIN LIE! We never spoke to her. He got very upset and more words were exchanged. He then refused to fill the order, removing his gloves and folding his arms across his chest and leaning against the wall. At this point we asked for the manager and he refused to get him/her and just ignored us. We left at that point. He was so rude and had the attitude that we were there to serve him! The entire experience was not a favorable one. I understand it was a busy Saturday night and things take time, but it appeared that it was understaffed. Only 3 people working, one taking ordered and two filling the orders. When we entered the line, it took 10 minutes to get to order, and another 10 minutes to receive the order. The food quality was very poor. I ordered a Crispy Chicken Combo. The bun of the sandwich was very dry or stale. The chicken was good though, nice and flavorful. The French fries were a not good. I know potatoes are not the most flavorful foods in the world, but these fries were soggy, lukewarm, and flavorless. This was my first time at a Nathan's. They had 30+ dogs on the grill and a kid on a ladder spraying windex or whatever cleaning substance directly over the dogs on the overhead vent. Whatever they were spraying was setting down on ALL the dogs. Plus whatever he was wiping with that dirty rag.
