To start with... Our family of 4 walked in to the most unfriendliest staff I have ever been around!!! Got our food which consisted of sausage, ribs, chicken and sides that included pinto beans, mashed potatoes, black eyed peas, Mac and cheese and potato salad and a stuffed baked potato. Meat was fatty and did not have flavor, and was room temperature. The sides had no flavor with the exception of the black eyed peas which were the bomb however, if I have to soak everything In the Bar-b-Que sauce To eat it...it isn't good! I was invited here for lunch by a colleague. He said it's amazing barbecue! He also recommended another location further up the highway but mentioned they are only open on the weekends. This was a Monday just after the lunch rush, around 1pm. The place was pretty crowded upon our arrival but thinned out. This was a repeat visit for my colleague but first visit for me so I followed him through the line. He suggested the pork chop which apparently has been their signature. It did look delicious but I was eyeing the brisket. The line staff was super friendly and the owner present and greeted me as well. Always a nice sight to see a restaurant owner present in daily operation activities! My one meat plate came with two sides and I was offered a choice of bread or cornbread. I chose the cornbread muffin. Definitely not the typical dry cornbread you find at most barbecue establishments. It had a sweet taste....so yummy! The brisket was very tender with an amazing flavor and little fat. Definitely recommend checking it out! I also had a side Mac n cheese and barbecue beans. The brisket, burnt ends, and sausage were ok. And the sausage was nothing special. Where they get the 3 stars are from the sides and the corn bread. I had the broccoli slaw and potatoes and couldn't stop eating them so they were gone first. I then had my burnt ends and they tasted like burnt fat coated in charcoal and my sausage seamed like it was boiled and not crisped up on a grill. My son had the man n cheese and said it was ok with a few bites of chicken. My husband had the rest of the chicken and the brisket and it looked gray. I usually start with the service but it's a BBQ place and as normal it is a service line setup so not much to say about it. What did I order? Well figured since it was my first visit I'd try a couple things so went with the two meat (brisket and hot sausage) plate with potato salad and coleslaw. I mosied over to the counter to get some BBQ sauce and when seeing it immediately thought to myself that it looked suspicious but got some anyways figuring why would I come to a BBQ place without trying it. As I usually do when visiting a new BBQ restaurant I took a piece of the brisket to taste without sauce. It was a bit dry and a little tasteless. To be honest this may have been more related to the brisket being lean but I was expecting more flavor. Ok now to the hot sausage first bite and to say less flavorful then the brisket is an understatement. What about those sides you ask? Potato salad...blah, not much else to add to that while the coleslaw was ok. Let's see if the BBQ sauce makes the difference. Underwhelmed would be a good statement. Sure has a strong ketchup taste reminding me of some that I tasted in Memphis. When I began eating I was only slightly unimpressed but as I worked through the meal it became more difficult to finish as it seemed to get worse and worse as I went along. Thankfully the tea was good and provided the ability to wash it away. All that cost me almost $20 which is kind of high. I believe it may be obvious that I will not be returning and I am truly hopeful this is not indicative of BBQ in this part of the state. Came to visit Brenham attractions and this showed on my recommendations. I needed a place that was able to sit seven people comfortably and also reasonably priced. Little did I know this barbecue spot is connected to the gas station and the parking lot is shared. The staff were friendly and willing to answer all our questions before placing our orders. We wanted to have lots of beef brisket and some sides and drinks. Maybe it was the lighting inside but the gloomy atmosphere didn't help. The barbecued meats were all sitting under what looked like heated areas and not too much glory. We were not super impressed by the quality or taste of the brisket but enjoyed the fried okra and the potato salad. The drinks were the typical cola products plus sweet tea...but the water was very metallic in taste. I thought it was just me but when my party agreed alongside other diners at the time, we deemed the water undrinkable. All in all, I think this place has a lot of potential but I'd rather take the chance of heading elsewhere in Brenham for better 'cue. read more

The brisket had barely any flavor. The cornbread was dry but sticky wet on top. Potato salad is from H-E-B. Coleslaw tasted rancid. The regular sausage was dry and flavorless. The mashed potatoes are boxed with cheese and bacon. The pinto beans are not homemade either. Even the TEA was bad. How the heck you make bad sweet tea at a BBQ place. The entrance from the road is a bit tricky to navigate as you have to noodle your vehicle around the U level cement drive, gas station pumps and behind the quickie mart called "B". The actual meat station is a very simple process almost cafeteria like I'm fashion but less friendly. Next up, pick your sides and settle your bill. Drinks are found behind you in an expansive beverage center complete w fixings bar. BBQ was tasty, ribs, sausages, and brisket that was not dry but fairly yet benefiting from BBQ sauce. Went to Brenham with a couple of friends for a girls day and we came across Nathan's. We were not disappointed the grilled chicken breast and Mac and cheese were awesome. I don't know if we came on a bad day or if this place just sucks for dinner or what but this was some of the worst BBQ I've ever had. Like to the point my husband actually complained, which we very rarely do, and all we got was a "so you want something else?" Bleh. Anyways so we had the ribs, they were so dry I couldn't even stand to eat them. It reminded me of a chew toy I'd give my dog. The brisket? Also dry. Sausage? Dry. All the meat, super dry. Also obviously precut (hence one of the causes of the dryness I am assuming). Like my guess is this bbq was precut for the lunch rush, and then sat all day, and was awful by the time we got there at 6pm. I'm giving it two stars because the sides and the pie were good. My husband and I stopped here on our way from Austin to Houston and we were glad we did. All of the barbecue we tried (ribs, pork, and sausage) were outstanding and the sides were to die for! We tried broccoli slaw, cole slaw, black-eyed peas, and macaroni and cheese! All were wonderful. This is a place where a vegetarian could actually eat well! In town for a few days. Needed to lay down a good lunch before hitting Blue Bell Creamery. Enter Nathan's BBQ. Meat: Chicken was tender, good flavor. Crispy skin was tasty. Hot Links firm but flavorful. Brisket good smoke on it, good chew to that first bite. Burnt ends rich and chewy! Pork Ribs had a good tug on them, moist, full flavor! Vat of self-serve warm super yummy bbq sauce. Sliced sweet onions, pickle slices, jalapenos. Sides: Cornbread moist with good crust. Mac&Chz firm noodle, cheezy creamy. Black eyed peas were firm, flavorful, broth was tasty. Broccoli Salad is So fresh, So tasty, So interesting you need to get some just to feel good about yourself! The "spicy" sausage wasn't; goodness knows what the bland stuff tastes like. The potato salad appeared to be just potato & dressing, with nothing in the way of pickle, onion , & celery to give it some crunch & interest. Nathan's was recommended to me by a local, and since they had respectable reviews I opted to located this gas station BBQ and give it a shot. Not too shabby! It's connected to a large gas / convenience store, the outdoor sign is not as large or clear to see so you could easily miss this place. The blonde gal at the cashier was really nice, I told her it was my first visit - - and I bet you're gonna tell me that everything is good here, right? "You betcha" - - she said. Well, I can't eat everything....I mean, I'm no Fat Bastard from Austin Powers....am I? The 3 plate meal is $12.49ish and change, a tad bit premium but let's give it a shot. She suggested: chicken, ribs, and brisket for meats, and cheddar mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese for sides. The pork beans and green beans looked good too, but I went with her recommendation. She said the grilled chicken is marinaded overnight so it's quite juicy - - and you know what, she was right. I took a bite of the sliced chicken and it was very juicy and tasty - - awesome. The ribs and brisket were pretty good, not too much smokey flavor or seasoning. The ribs were not your typically fall-off-the-bone, not sure if they're pressure cooked, but even though there was no smoke-ring the ribs were still pretty good. The brisket was somewhat bland, but still good enough to eat. I absolutely loved their BBQ sauce - - it's in a large pot and it's hot, a bit sweet and it's thicker consistency - - it was so good that I had to ask for extra to take home. Hot diggity! The sides were very good too, lesser on the seasoning but still tasty. If I make it back here I'm going for their sausage, chicken, some beans, and a gallon of their awesome BBQ sauce. Honestly some of the absolute worst BBQ I've eaten in 5 years living in Texas. The brisket was like tasteless rubber, I had to use BBQ to give it any taste. The worst thing of all is I cut it into small pieces for my 4 year old and he almost choked on it. I had to slap him on the back to thankfully clear his airway. I flew into Houston on red eye flight that was delayed. I picked up the rental car to drive to Austin and was so tired and hungry on the way. I decided to look up BBQ spots and noticed Nathan's was right off of the freeway and had great reviews so I stopped. This place has seriously the best BBQ I have ever had! Not exaggerating. I got brisket and sliced pork. Both were excellent. Juicy, tender and seasoned just right. The crust on the meat was spectacular! I've never had pork with that kind of amazing flavor! I saw Nathan the owner walking in the dining room and told him how happy I was and how much I loved the food. After eating everything Nathan brought me some ribs to try for dessert! Holy cow! Even though I was stuffed I ate them all and they were even better than what I had ordered! Do yourself a favor and stop here. Nathan and his BBQ are both so awesome! So I was like I'm always down for Bbq, especially in a small town in TEXAS. 13 bucks for 3 meat with two sides. I got potato salad and mashed potatoes, both solid. Now onto the meats! The brisket was moist and very flavorful, the sausage was ok, reminded me of breakfast sausage, and the ribs were perfectly smoked. They kept the sauce in a big kettle on the side that kept it warm.
