I met Nate at a local park while walking my dog, Otis. The one thing that caught my eye immediately was that he was walking effortlessly with 5 dogs, most of them were not on a leash and staying within a foot or two from his side. I have had many dogs in my life, taking each one through obedience training but nothing ever stuck. After having tennis elbow surgery years ago from trying to teach my Mastiff mix to heal, I called a popular training franchise that used small "bags" to throw at the animal when they were misbehaving. Needless to say that didn't work. Years later I moved to Arizona and that's when I met Nate. He came to my house the first session to assess Otis' behavior, the environment and my approach to training. We had a very long discussion on canine behaviors. From there Nate gave me a several things to work on with Otis. The results after one month were amazing. Each session we had after that was tailored to what Otis and I needed to work on; totally personalized training to our needs and behavior issues. Nate approaches training with a different approach than standard obedience schools. He addresses canine behaviors and helps you understand those behaviors by explaining where they are coming from, and how to work towards correcting them. I now for the first time in my life have a happy and calm animal that actually listens to me! The coaching I received from Nate not only helped shape Otis but also gave me more confidence in being the pack leader. I have also boarded Otis with Nate after having a couple training sessions. When I picked Otis up he was calm, happy and adjusted. Something you rarely find. I recently accepted a new job that is a very long commute. Nate graciously offered to help me by boarding Otis during the day so he is not left alone for long days. Nate has a genuine passion for animals and lives out this passion. Nate and his pack are amazing! I contacted Nate after taking on a 3 year old French Bulldog that had come out of a bad situation. Introducing Ava to my home was a challenge because she was aggressive, fearful and anxious. This is on top of her being a tenacious breed, which is new for me because I have always had docile Cavalier Spaniels...so this was a challenge for me to take on. She was very aggressive towards my 9 year old Cavalier Spaniel and reactive and aggressive to any dogs that she saw while on walks. I was at a point where I wasn't sure if I would be able to keep her. I searched and searched and talked to other trainers who I didn't care for their training approach or they wanted to immediately heavily medicate her. I came across Nate's Dog Training and watched his online videos and reviewed his online reviews and decided to contact him. I could tell immediately that his approach is what I wanted for helping me and Ava. His schedule was busy but he made time for me and during our initial call he spent quite a bit of time to understand the situation at hand and explain why Ava was being the way she was and gave me tips for handling her until our first session. He rearranged his schedule to get us in for our first session and that first visit resulted in a change with Ava and my other dog. He also helped me to handle the situation better. We have had 4 or 5 sessions now and Ava has come a long way. She is now able to walk by other dogs without reacting, shes playing with other dogs during group sessions with Nate, shes walking along with my other dog, seeing me as her pack leader and shes learning she doesn't need to resort to her old protective behaviors anymore. My husband and I were beginning to see some some aggressive/possessive behaviors in our 7 month old Parson (Jack) Russell Terrier (Ralphie). The behaviors were concerning enough on their own, but we were also set to get a new puppy in a few months. It is hard to choose someone to trust just by searching the internet. However, all the positive reviews for Nate made me feel confident in choosing him. I did actually call one other company, but they did not return my call soon enough- I had already decided to go with Nate. Ralphies behavior seemingly changed the second he met Nate. - that's to say, Nate knows how to act/react to dogs so well, that he had no issues correcting Ralphies troublesome behaviors while teaching us the same. And by no means does 'correcting' behavior equate to harsh or harmful treatment! After 2 sessions with Nate, our neighborhood friends started to comment on how much Ralphies behavior had improved, and how good he was now walking on the leash. Dog training involves a lot of 'Owner Training'. Without knowing it, we were contributing to Ralphies maladaptive behaviors. Training a puppy is not as hard as we thought. But it does take consistency and patience, and knowing the right things to do. Nate has his own dogs that he will bring along to help with training , and you can clearly see how much Nates dogs respect him and what good girls they are! Nate has been available through text to answer any questions I have had. Our last session included our new puppy, and was a lot easier, as we had the foundational knowledge Nate had taught us a few months earlier. I know we will continue to work with Nate if any new problems arise, but also just because we liked him so much, he is so great with the dogs and has such great knowledge to share!!! read more

Highly recommend! Worth every cent. We have a now 11 month old lab retriever. We reached out to Nate because we couldn't open the front door without him darting. We couldn't walk him, because he was dragging us. We couldn't easily maneuver around our kitchen because he'd lay in our way. We couldn't have him sleep in our room because as soon as we stirred he would jump up & down & think it's playtime. We couldn't have anyone over because he would maul them with over eager enthusiasm. We couldn't have rugs because he would eat them. We couldn't sit on the couch and watch a movie without him trying to climb on us. Everything we did, he was super nosy and in our space. He wasn't along side us, he was "on" us. Until Nate. Our only regret, was not reaching out to Nate sooner. I wish we had called him when our puppy was 4 months old. Although he is still full of puppy energy, he now waits politely to be let out. We can now open the front door & he won't come until we nod OK. He knows come and stay. He waits politely for his food to be put down. He's learning space. He settles & knows when it's time to play. He no longer climbs on us. He doesn't beg. We're still working with his social manners as he still gets very eager when he sees others, but that too is work in progress. My favorite part of my day now, is our walks. I LOVE walking him. He now walks alongside me rather than dragging me. We've reclaimed our peaceful home. Thanks to Nate. Nate trained "us" how to give our puppy what he needed and how dogs think. Valuable information. We contacted Nate after our 8 year old BC mix (Bailey) was diagnosed with Kidney Failure and she had developed an aversion to eating due to her sickness. We also have an 8 year old yellow lab (Duke) that also needed some training. With all of the attention Bailey was receiving due to her needs (or so we thought) Duke began acting out and destroying things around the house and at one point eating all of Bailey's medication. Duke has always been good on a leash (except in the presence of yappy dogs) and Bailey not so much. Both dogs also obsessed with always feeling the need to be near us. After one visit Nate figured out our dog's situations and developed a plan of attack. First was putting our dogs on a regular schedule as far as exercise, feeding, quiet time, etc. Both dogs reacted so well to Nate's training exercises and regimens that they are now both excellent on and off leash, don't always feel the need to be near us and on the top of the list, Bailey has gone back to eating more regularly. Just last week while on our nightly walk we were surprised by an out of control, yappy little dog and Duke and Bailey just sat down and watched calmly as the owners struggled with their 15 pound beast. The best compliment that we can give is that Nate actually cancelled our third training appointment because both dogs reacted so well to his plan and our execution. We called Nate several days after adopting a male two-year-old English Sheppard mix who started growling and snapping at us, apparently for no reason. My husband and I have had dogs our entire lives and thought we knew a lot about dog behavior. We feel strongly about adopting rescues and have always ended up developing great dogs after the initial period of training. Even after trying everything we knew, and everything we get could cull from the internet, we were at a total loss as to how to correct this new dog's behavior. If we had returned him to the shelter, he probably would have had to be destroyed. Nate is truly a great dog trainer - within 5 minutes of meeting our dog, he completely understood the dogs personality and was able to give us concrete methods to modify our behavior - and therefore the dogs! Huge progress was made in every in-home session and we were diligent in continuing the training in between sessions. It all comes down to understanding the dog and how we interact with him. There are many, many, details but Nate worked closely with us over several months and was 100% committed to us ending up with a great family pet. Nate was phenomenal and so happy to have found him. I recently adopted a 3 year old Pitbull mix from county shelter, that came with some "issue", that I didn't know how to address. My dog suffers from separation anxiety, pulled on the leash during walks and would whine and pull if another dog walked by. I called in a panic after my dog had broken through a wooden fence when left in the backyard. I text Nate and he responded quickly to my request for more info, asked me a bunch of questions, and then followed up with a call to ask more questions. I think he could hear the desperation and despair in my voice and was able to take me on as a client. Nate truly saved the day!! I had grown up with dogs my whole life and had just gotten my first dog on my own and expected everything to run smoothly, as it always did. My husband and I moved into a new house and my dogs behavior began to change. She became aggressive when we were outside together and even cornered me once. I felt like I had no control and was extremely anxious when I was around her, a feeling I never wanted to feel with my dog. We had tried multiple trainers before our local Pet Planet recommended Nate Dog Training. We rescued a German Shepherd/Queensland Heeler Cattle Dog mix. At 5 years old he was still extremely leash reactive, suffered from anxiety, had been attacked, and felt like he needed to be on alert at all times of the day and night. Nate is amazing. We called Nate because we rescued a 3 year old Cattle Dog/Black Lab mix (we think) and he had some emotional baggage. This dog was very anxious and insecure which caused him to be frightened of other dogs and of some people. Hoping for the best, Nate was able to help us change his behavior and show him that he could be confident and trusting of us. Axle has turned from a shy, scared rescue dog into the sweetest, most laid back dog I've ever met. Axle is trusting and confident and now plays well with other dogs. My husband and I can't say enough about Nate and his dog training service. Eleven months ago, we had a 4 month old beagle puppy who was displaying dominant behavior and was head strong beyond belief. At times he'd lay down and refuse to move when we would take him for a walk. Other times, when we walked him, he would jump on us and try to nip at our legs or pant legs about 90 % of the walk! Additionally, our beagle became possessive of his food and toys. He would growl when we approached him while he was eating. Furthermore, Bubba was not socially accepted by other dogs. I found Nate after spending hours researching and interviewing different dog trainers in the valley. Nate has literally no competition he is by far the best and there is nobody that can even get close to what he can do to train your dog. I am a very organized person and I had Nate, the vet and the groomer, well researched and lined up before I even found the right breeder. I didn't want to be that person who has the super annoying dog that barks non-stop, jumps at every guest and has no manners. Nate has been so incredibly amazing for my dog Marley! Marley is a 1.5 year old Dachshund and when I rescued her, she has incredibly dog reactive. She was so dog reactive that it was hard to bring her anywhere. She lunged and growled at every dog we saw. We were referred to Nate through our Vet at Baseline Animal Clinic. Our dog is 14 months old, a mix of lab, mastiff, and shepherd. He is super loving, but we called on Nate because we were dealing with a lot of chewing, barking, and pulling when walking. We needed to establish that we were in charge, but not sure how to do it. He took to Nate right away and was receptive to everything he was teaching him. Nate explained, demonstrated, and then worked with us on our implementation of the new system. Nate is a fantastic trainer! I rescued a pointer mix female and she is a year old. Beings rescue, she was very nervous so needless to say she was not great on the leash. Nate helped me get some really important basics down and even recommended a different style of leash from what I was using which made all the difference in the world! Also, my dog was not doing well around other dogs prior to starting the training with Nate. After training with Nate and his pack, she is so much better and relaxed around other dogs. I have a 2 year old large great Pyrenees male who I couldn't walk on a leash because of his aggressive nature along with other behavior problems.
