I've been partial to their coffee and environment since Max and the team established permanent roots here. Always something interesting and delicious at the bar. Recently they've added an expanded food menu so of course I will work through that over time! Today the poached egg on buttermilk biscuit sounded great. The dish was simple and very tasty. They don't use chocolate syrup, they use melted -- premium quality -- chocolate, and then they sweeten to your preference. Wonderful! Try their pour-over too. It's a specialty of the house and to die for! In a hurry? There's a self serve honor bar where you can pump drip coffee and self pay on a Square kiosk without going to the main counter. I have been to this location before and the service and products are mediocre at best. I wanted vanilla flavoring and they were out, how does a coffee establishment run out of the most common flavor for all lattes??? There were two young ladies working and there was one drink I had of mine. I waited 14 minutes for a 16 ounce latte with flavoring and once it was finally completed they realized they did not put any sweetener in my latte. The coffee was very weak, the temperature of the coffee was at past 110°. I'm very disappointed and will choose to go somewhere else the next time. I'm giving you one star but you actually do not deserve any stars. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. The coffee is so flavorful and delicious, the atmosphere warm and inviting and the cookies are to die for. Location is easy to find and parking on the street is abundant. The coffee was delicious. I am a mocha girl til I die and it was not only so yummy but also beautifully presented. My boyfriend got the filter coffee and I got a taste of it and wow! It is PACKED with flavor. Each sip a little different than the last. I also treated myself to a sea salt chocolate chip cookie and it was absolutely heavenly. I will definitely be back for more soon. It was warm and gooey and the sea salt gave it the perfect mixture of sweet and salty. Max, the owner, is such a kind and good natured guy and is so welcoming, such is his cafe. I'm in love with this place. As a previous barista, I take my coffee very seriously, and so do these guys. The baristas are very knowledgable and obviously love what they do. They take pride in the drinks they craft and it really shows. Beautiful place to hang out, work, or sit at the bar and chat with your barista about their new favorite coffee. All of their beverages are great, and so far their waffles are amazing, as are their baked goods. They also sell local beer, which I would love to stop by in the evening for a drink. If you're in the area, I recommend you stop by and stay awhile, because you're going to love it. read more

Compared to the Evil Empire, Narrative isn't convenient. It takes them a little while to craft a drink. Also, I wouldn't come here hungry. But if you've got the time, there's no better coffee drink in Snohomish County, that I'm aware of. The salted chocolate chip cookie is the shiznit, too. I've been to many coffee shops in my lifetime and this has to be one of my favorites! Narrative is ran behind a mastermind @Maxwell Mooney, a former Spotted Cow employee which is a popular nearby coffee shop. Anyways, the team here is phenomenal! Nobody cuts corners and Maxwell hired the right people to do the job. Highly recommend and also the inside design is insane!! read more

This review is based off a couple of visits. The location is really a gorgeous space. Very well rehabbed but with the few modern touches that really make it shine. Ample seating and a really nice layout. The location is in the heart of downtown and very walkable from my home. Within the two visits I've had one drink which I enjoyed and a breakfast sandwich that was served after I finished my coffee and very average. Based on that alone I would return. However.... my first visit was a bust. My wife and I walked in the door and it was fairly empty. No greeting, acknowledgment or offer of help by any of the 3 plus staff behind the counter. After waiting for a good few minutes of uncomfortable silence we parted ways. Unfortunately, although our second encounter included actual sustenance, it came with a fair amount of local, hipster attitude that blended with the first visit was just really off putting and gave the impression maybe that's the norm there. When I walked into this place I had to remember I was still in Everett, not Seattle. I ordered a decaf latte with oat milk. It was wonderful. Usually decaf espresso is flat tasting at most places. Not here. This place would have been a regular hang out for me if it were around when I used to live in Everett. The employees are nice. The shop itself is beautiful, with sunlights, exposed red brick and wood. The pastries look delicious too, but I'm gluten free so I can't try them. read more

I went recently with my husband for coffee and breakfast. I had the eggnog latte and as someone who doesn't normally drink coffee I can say this was the best coffee drink I've ever had. Not bitter, great flavor, and really pleasantly festive. We also had the breakfast sandwiches with bacon and they were delicious. The biscuits were perfect and flaky, the bacon was not greasy, the eggs were perfectly runny and the arugula and aioli were excellent finishing touches. I haven't been up to Everett in some time and was surprised to find this great cafe. For a city with a historic downtown I was always wondering why there weren't more great coffee shops in the area. Came in on a Sunday afternoon and had a Mocha. Surprisingly it came served in a glass but the temperature was just perfect where I could handle it and drink right away. It's looked great and tasted amazing. One of the better espresso drinks I've had in some time. The cafe is also a nice place to sit down and read a book or chat with a friend. By far, the best coffee shop in Everett. I've been here 8 times and figured its about time to leave some positive feedback. This place has been very consistent in their quality. It is evident that a lot of thought and passion has been put into Narrative. The cafe design is a great mix of old brick/timber with modern. The coffee roasters have been carefully selected to offer some excellent beans. The baristas are talented and have been consistently friendly. This is a key aspect of what makes this place special. The quality of the coffee could very easily lend it self to a snobby environment. However, the baristas seem really down to earth and approachable, regardless of your coffee knowledge as a patron. Thank you! Their "Honor Bar" is a great idea. If the line is too long for espresso in the front, you can get some great self-serve drip coffee in the back. There is a tablet next to the carafe where you can pay on your own. I like to see that they trust patroons to use the "honor system." This little piece adds to the overall environment. The food menu isn't super extensive, but what they have they do well. *See attached food pics. It's nice to be able to grab some great food along with some stellar coffee. They also have some bomb pastries to offer, and they even have a good beer selection for an afternoon pint. read more

Fantastic single origin cap. I was able to choose which espresso I wanted and hot damn that natural Guatemala did not disappoint.

I've been to this spot a couple of times, and one thing that just drove me away from coming here was the very Smokey smell (almost like burnt waffles times ten), but to my surprise it was a lot better this time around (don't get me wrong it's still there). I got an iced caramel latte, and couldn't be more pleased. The barista really cared about how I liked it done, and provided me with a healthier choice for breakfast. Although I can't honestly say that this is my absolute favorite spot, it is not something to avoid. If the smell was taken care of completely, I'm sure this would bring it up a notch for me. read more

Expensive, limited menu, but people seem to like being able to pick your own roast/ beans. The atmosphere is unlike most of Everett: very hipster: I've spotted people on antique typewriters here. The crowd that wears tight black jeans and only uses a Mac mixed with court officials and police since both are nearby this location. My husband prefers The Loft about six blocks away for more affordable coffee with a better business philosophy. read more
