This is one of those reviews where I think if they could get some help, they could quickly raise their rating. The food I had was quite tasty, but when the sushi chef is having to wait tables as well as make the food, it is too much to have high expectations. I decided to give this place (along the SR 267 corridor that crosses over I-70 as the first exit to Plainfield) a try. I pulled in for lunch in front of the restaurant and noticed a "help wanted" sign, which I've learned should immediately lower your expectations. Fortunately, most places seem to manage in the short run. When I entered the lobby, a sign directed me to the main dining area by the bar. I saw a couple of folks dining but they may have been employees since they ended up going back to the kitchen area and exiting a side door. Anyway, one of them let the waiter/chef know I was there. He was soft spoken and I wasn't sure if I heard much of what he said the entire meal. I grabbed a menu off a table since I had decided to sit at the sushi bar. He brought my water and I ordered a bowl of veggie Tom Yum soup to start. Later, I ordered a 2pc Nigiri Sake (salmon) and an Eel Avocado roll. The chef (before I knew he was the chef) began working on some "to go" order before bringing out my soup. When the soup, which was full of flavor, but not spicy hot like I've had elsewhere, arrived without a napkin for me. I mentioned it and I was given the chopsticks, napkin, and a dish for soy sauce. The soup was good and piping hot but the shape of the spoon made it hard to get the vegetables, especially the broccoli over the lip of the spoon. Before I finished the soup, the chef had finished the other order and brought out my entrees on a plate. Everything looked and tasted really good too! However, I had to ask for the soy sauce since he had forgotten to bring it as well. See the pattern? Again, I enjoyed the food and when I was finished, I was quickly able to check out. Note that I was the only dine in customer at the time. What must it be like if a large group or several tables of customers had arrived? I don't know that I can give this place any higher rating despite the good food until they get someone who can help fix the service issues so that the chef can simply cook. Review #3592

Very 2 1/2 stars. But closer to 2 than 3. The place was very dim lit. It was kinda dungeon or bar feel. It was certainly not a welcoming environment. You walk into and empty unmanned host podium. You have to figure out for yourself to walk into the back of the place. It seems to be built uninvitingly. It is backwards. You walk past the kitchen and bathrooms to the dining room. The atmosphere was so dreary that I didn't even feel like having an adult beverage with my meal. The food was adequite. Unimpressive. Not bad, not good really. It was just meh. The place was very slow. I can understand why. It was not a positive dining experience. I recommend avoiding the place unless you are in one of the immediately located hotels and have to have Japanese food.

We were driving around Plainfield looking for places to eat after 9pm. Most places were closed. I didn't want Fast food and chanced across this place. The place looked deserted but a friendly face quickly showed up and assured us it was open. She seated us in a booth and quickly gave us menus. We ordered sushi and Hibachi chicken. The service was excellent and the food came quickly. We ordered miso soup on the side .The food was delicious and well presented. The salad was the typical lettuce with ginger dressing. Miso soup hit the spot and the food was perfect. I am surprised that this place is not busier. Good size portions. I couldn't finish mine so had to box it up.

The rooftop is a hidden gem, lovely if it's not too hot to sit outside. I was with a group and we got to sample a number of menu items. The shrimp cocktail with little pops of mustard seed was great, as were the short rib egg rolls. Also enjoyed the sirloin with chimichurri and the sesame-crusted seared tuna. Do not miss the "Sticky Foot" dessert - a slab of DELICIOUS date bread pudding with caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream and popcorn on top. YUM. If you're a cocktail fan, I loved the butterscotch/root beer old fashioned. Order it smoked if you're fancy.

Our server Emily was cheerful and informative. A parking garage across the street served us well for dining at this restaurant and attending an event at Hendricks Live across the street. The shrimp cocktail appetizer featured fresh large shrimp with dollops of horseradish on the plate and a nice sauce. I enjoyed the steak frites entree, a generous portion of steak perfectly cooked, served with a delicious broccolini and tasty fries. My sister ordered the chicken marsala and noted that she would have liked more sauce, and the truffle potatoes were delicious. My brother said his huge pork chop was perfect, and my sister in-law recommended the sirloin steak. We had reservations and were seated at a high top table, which is not my preferred way to dine but the restaurant was full so we didn't ask to be moved. We had a bit of a wait for our entrees and chalked that up to it being Saturday night. There is a separate bar area and rooftop dining with igloos available.

I was looking for the perfect "treat yourself" dinner, and Akira absolutely delivered. First off, the staff are SO incredibly friendly. My waitress was funny, kind, and we ended up talking about travel which is just another reminder that you really can make a new friend anywhere. Then came the hibachi chef, who was great, efficient, and a stellar grill master. I stuffed my face, enjoyed the show, and honestly had the best time. Service was a 10/10. I started with their complimentary soup and salad, plus added a California roll. Soup was delicious and the salad was good but opt for the ginger dressing over the sesame (pro tip). Also are we allowed to eat lettuce yet? Anyways didn't get sick from iceberg lettuce-gate so a win is a win. Also as a shocking note....Indiana isn't known for their sushi so skip the rolls. No offense. On to the best bites though! The filet mignon and scallop combination was calling my name...and YES, it was the right move. The filet was tender melt in your mouth and the scallops were cooked to perfection. Each hibachi dinner comes with soup, salad, a shrimp appetizer, and of course I upgraded to the fried rice because...obviously. Super good and tasty. Large portions and for $50 a person for dinner with the prime steak option, well worth it (cheaper options if you just get one protein though). Hibachi is simple, but sometimes simple is just SO GOOD and this was easily one of the better teppan spots I've ever been to. Also...did I consume approximately a GALLON of the pink sauce Absolutely. If you know, you KNOW. And if you're flying into Indianapolis: Akira is only about 20 minutes from the airport in Plainfield, making it a pretty easy stop if you're in the area. Couldn't recommend this place more, don't let the low yelp scores fool you, for once reviewers got this place wrong (in my humble opinion).

I had the filet hibachi and it was tender, tasty, and FILLING! even without the appetizer, easily 2 meals worth. Our waiter, Yancy, was absolutely amazing and the main reason I wanted to leave this review. (Hoping I spelled that correctly). He was full of character, amazing suggestions, and all around fun to be around. He made us some combinations of his favorite sauces to dip our sushi in and we ended up chatting about some of our fav kpop singers, like he was a friend we hadn't seen in years - chattin and catching up. What a pleasure he was and I hope management knows what a gift it is he is working for them!!

Disappointing Experience at Peking China Buffet 9/16/2025 at 11am…read moreRating: (1/5) Visited Peking China Buffet in Plainfield, IN for lunch with two friends--and unfortunately, it was a letdown from the moment we walked in. The dining room was dim due to multiple burnt-out bulbs, and the stained ceiling didn't help the first impression. Our server showed us to the table with no greeting or smile, just a quick drink order. The buffet itself was sparse and looked tired--most trays had only a few items, and very little appeared fresh. I tried to stick to the newly replenished dishes, but even that felt like a gamble. The moment that sealed it: my buddy accidentally dropped an egg roll on the floor, placed it at the end of the buffet bar, and grabbed the last one. Minutes later, I returned to find that same dropped egg roll had been put back into the serving bin. That raised serious concerns about food safety and cleanliness. After taking a closer look around, the place felt dirty and poorly maintained. Later that afternoon, all three of us felt ill. Between the high prices, stale food, and questionable hygiene, this is not a place we'll be returning to.
