So first off, let's list what I do like. This place is beautiful. I can't think of a better place to sit outside on a summer night. The hookahs they use have ice chimneys all throughout the stem and it makes a huge difference! They give you a set of tongs without you having to ask, and they use naturals by default (I use 3 kings quick lights for preference, but I recognize that I'm a monster who is wrong about them. You can get them, but there's an up charge.)They are byob, and I think they are the only ones in the area. What I don't like. I feel like the hookah is more expensive than it deserves to be, 16 is a bit much for the area. They only have 1 bathroom, so sometimes a line forms, The falafel was terrible, tastes like nothing and it was all just a paste inside. Presentation was nice tho. Mediterranean cocktail was delicious. Dbl apple was exactly as expected, it's hard to mess that up. The coals they use are huge, and even if you only use 2, they burn hotter than I would like, I'd prefer they used smaller ones and changes them more frequently, but that's a small gripe. The inside feels a bit clubby for my taste, but it's got its own charm. If you want a night out with lots of people, this is your place. If you want to sit on your computer and work on something while you smoke, give it a pass. I'll come back again and try the falafel again and also something else to see if this was a one off. read more

It's been almost a year.... time for an update! I've learned something important about Narah Cafe, and that is, I'd rather not go on a Friday or Saturday night. What's great is that they're open until 3 AM and the kitchen is open until 2 AM (awesome to have something besides fast food when you're hungry and it's late). But whoa, Narah Cafe gets super crowded on weekend nights, and that means super smokey as well. Great for business and the hookah lovers, not the greatest for me. Last time I came in here on a Friday night, almost every table was full, and most of the guests were very young - under 21. So, definitely loud and smoke-filled! I know it's a hookah bar, so of course there will be smokiness. But the whole room was so hazy, I couldn't take a bite of my food without inhaling someone's nearby exhaled smoke. Just a bit much for me. The food is stellar and my new favorite thing is the lentil-lemon soup. It's thick, fresh, brightly flavored, and extremely hearty. It could be a meal on its own. I also tried the lamb kabobs which packed a ton of flavor. It came with a bed of rice, and I was a bit irked because I asked, "is your rice just rice, or are there noodles in it?" I was told "it's just rice!" However, it's clearly rice pilaf (although the menu doesn't say so). So if you're gluten-free, avoid their rice. Looked fab though. The kabob meal also came with some grilled veggies: onion, jalapeno, and tomato. Delicious! And a light, wonderful tahini sauce to dip everything in. We ordered the lemon-mint hookah again - great flavor. Like a citrusy gum... it's nice and cool. However, with all the smoke around my head, I wasn't digging it. I just wanted to eat! Narah Cafe is BYOB, but there is now a $5 charge per person. That's not too crazy, but I'm not sure it's worth it. Overall, I'm still a fan of this restaurant. Pretty good prices, friendly staff, great food, and a fun environment. I'll probably come on a weekday next! read more

Just a big FYI they do charge $5 a person for BYOB, because of religous reasons, they would have to pour your drinks in the back. One big complaint I had, was me and my friend bring our OWN drinks pre-poured and we still got charged $5 a person. It was completely stupid. (I think it was more because our server just wanted to make things harder than it really is.) His excuse was "the owner is here". Another thing, our service was CRUD. I think it was more of our server being a complete inconsiderate jerk. But, the other servers were completely fine and super nice. I never got the name of our server and when i asked for a receipt he didn't give me one. But he wears glasses, a bit on the heavy side. He stood and spoke to other customers while we had to get other servers attention for assistance. But as soon as we did he would pop up and ask "did you need help?". I asked for more sauce and he never came back with it! Our hookah became cold, and we couldn't even smoke anymore! The food was decent, but it would've been better if it was hot. (Temperature wise). The reason why I would give this place 2 stars is due to the service from my specific server and how the rules are. In all honesty, everything tasted like it had been frozen and warmed up in a microwave. I ordered a gyro and it had giant chunks of raw onion and a mushy tomato, like it had been frozen and thawed. Overall we were not impressed by our food. Arlington has much better Mediterranean places. The decor inside was once nice, you can tell someone invested a lot of money opening this place, but there seems to be no upkeep. The "manager" said we had to pay for byob, and that the fee would be waived if we purchased $10 or more per person. So we kept asking about food and she said they didn't have it. So then we ordered our food, waters and hookah. Waters never arrived, some food arrived, and neither did our hookahs. I haven't been here for food before but this is my friends and I got to place for Hookah, we've always gotten great service with our hookah. The only food I had here was once I got the pita which was really fluffy and soft. I didn't get any hummus with it because at the time I was a broke barely out of high school student.
