You see, last Christmas I gave you my heart and the very next day, you gave it away. This year, to save me from tears........no, no. This never happened to me but Wham's "Last Christmas" which was written by George Michael, is overly played during the holidays in Japan. On a serious note, last Christmas I was jonesing for a yule log. I saw posts on IG and when I attempted to order one at a bakery on S King St, I was advised it was too late. At a Japanese themed bakery I was offered the option of a Christmas cake but wasn't in a mood for strawberry shortcake. I was on a mission. I recall attending a Christmas dinner at my cousin's a few years back where someone brought Yule logs and found that they were from Elvin's Bakery (EB). I also did a search on EB's photo gallery and saw one posted so I gave them a call. Placing an order via telephone was literally a piece of cake. It was confirmed to a tee and was also advised their closing on Christmas Day so pick up would be on Christmas Eve. I made payment over the phone. All done. The Yule log was a hit at Christmas dinner where it was visually stunning and tasty. It was not overly sweet nor dry. Well executed and decorated beautifully. So why not 5-stars? Picking it up was a shocker when the Yule log was placed in a cake box that clearly was meant for a 1/2 sheet cake (?) size so you had to be extra careful when transporting and storing. There was no support nor fillers in the box for the quite empty box as the Yule log was not meant for the box provided. In closing, I'm grateful EB came through with an amazing dessert for our holiday dinner but was caught off guard with their boxing. I'll need to think twice about ordering a Yule log again from them and will definitely order earlier and seek the options on Oahu before deciding on where to go.

Lol I was surprised to see the name change and only one size being sold now. Guess it's been a while since my last visit. The "Honu Bread" was available in 2 flavors: Original $12 & Ube $14. Of course, I had to grab one of each since I hadn't tried the ube before. I wish I only grabbed the original/buttercream tho because the ube was okay at best. It did have a subtle ube flavor if you really searched for it, but overall, it wasn't my fave. Service was fast and friendly. The bakery only had a few other customers around noon on a Tuesday. I was expecting to see more baked goods sold, but I guess it wouldn't matter since my only purchase is the Honu Bread anyway. As far as the bread - it doesn't taste the same as it used to. It also had quite the oily mouth feel, which is something I don't recall experiencing years before. Bummer... still a decent indulgence tho! Teenager approved. :)

I love how Napoleon's Bakery has monthly specials!…read more From August 30 - October 3, 2021 their specials are strawberry gelatin cream pie ($14.35), orange chiffon tube cake ($7.75) and banana walnut coffee cake square ($2.40). Yesterday, I went on the Zippy's app and ordered the strawberry gelatin cream pie and 2 apple napples for my mom. It's super convenient to order through the app because I believe the pick up time is only 15 minutes from when the time you order. You can also choose what time you want to pick it up. Another tip I suggest is, if you don't want to order the whole pie and just want to have a slice. I think you can just buy it by the slice at either the restaurant side or at the counter. The strawberry pie is so wonderful! I think they used to have it on their permanent menu years ago, but maybe because it wasn't as popular, they took it out? That's what I'm assuming. I love jello and pie so this is the best of both worlds! The crust is a little buttery, and I think there is also a layer of chocolate, then it's filled with a custard cream, topped with a layer of strawberry jello and the edges has a whipped cream. OMG, so heavenly! I hope you'll try it and enjoy it as much as me.

I am updating this review so I'm hoping my earlier one-star review shows up as a corrected- starred…read morerating of this Napolean's Bakery. The one-star review started out because I purchased two bakery items: a donut and a cake and both items had foreign material in it: a hair on the donut and a plastic/nylon or other strand of scrub brush or equipment in the cake. I would have just let the hair on the donut go, because in all my years of eating, there has been a hair, here or there. I have found pretty disgusting things worse than hairs in my food, so I was ready to let it go, but then my son found what appeared to be a plastic strand in his cake, so it was time to take action. I didn't want to be out $16 for donuts and a cake we didn't want to eat. I called the Napolean's Bakery location in the evening and spoke to a really nice manager who was really apologetic about the whole thing. He was very sorry and offered me complimentary items for the hassle of having to come back to the store to return the items, but I said there was no need, I just wanted my money back. I told him I'd be coming back the next day with the items, so they can see for themselves what I've found (I took photos but decided to let Napolean Bakery figure it out, so I've taken them down voluntarily). The next day I took the products back to the same store and had to deal with different manager who was not well-versed in customer service. I won't go into detail here but let's say it was not a pleasant experience at all and I left feeling perturbed. I got an email from two managers asking me about my experience so I let them know what transpired, from the time I found the things in my baked products to the service I got, and they were concerned and addressed some of the problems. I knew then Zippy's/Napolean Bakery takes their Yelp reviews and things like this seriously. I'm upping my review rating here from a one-star (eeks! I think not!) to a three-star (A-OK) solely based on the fact that Napolean's Bakery reached out to me and they really were concerned. I would have thought a company so huge that has cornered the local market couldn't be concerned with just one complaint, but they do take all matters seriously and that's all right in my book.

When I inquired if we could get two of the same item (giving the example of two double scoops) the nice Asian lady gave us the cost and said it would be a little less to just get two. How honest! She had been nice when we went in before, too. But we really wanted the items so we used the offer coupon. Hubby and I each got a double scoop in a cup and I also got a small Mangonada. The mangonada had a generous amount of Tajin drizzled along the inside of the cup and tasted amazing. Our double scoops were decent sized. This location is always clean and service is generally good. It's also fun to watch when they decorate an ice cream cake. Today we saw them making an ice cream pie, they put in 5 very generous scoops of ice cream to make the pie. Made me want to buy one! B-n-R ice cream may not have as high a fat content as gourmet ice cream places but we appreciate the large assortment of flavors, the prepacked pints and the ready made half cakes that they can just add your writing. Holiday treats…read more.. Not that it's the only time I visit but they certainly do help make the holidays right with seasonal flavors so it's never a dull moment whenever you visit any of the bakeries. This Waipio location was an unexpected visit as I was just a block away at the Hawaii Okinawa Center as they were having their craft fair and since I was parked right across the street from ZIPPY'S I just had to take a peek before leaving the area. First of all what a lovely spot walking in I usually find that the Napoleon's area closed and you need to order at the take out counter though here it was going strong and with a lot of treats as their display case was filled with items including the one that mom loves is the Jello Squares which I rarely see these days so I had to get one and the Pumpkin Bread Pudding which was a bit sweet for me but was nice a moist with a hint of the yummy pumpkin, I did like it but was difficult to eat it all in one sitting...mom on the other hand loved her jello square and had to restrain herself from eating it all lol! The service here is so nice and friendly packed it all ready for travel which I appreciate and having all the yummies even at the later time of the day. Thank you!
