I am thoroughly impressed with the Nanuet Diner. I was in town on business, and decided that it was worth the 15 minute walk in the cold to check it out. The restaurant is, in fact, a 24/7 Diner, but that description does not do it justice. The menu is incredibly extensive, and the staff is very nice and efficient. I ordered the Seafood Platter to go, and waited at the bar. Everything was freshly prepared, and as you can see from the picture, was extremely worthy of the price. I will try them for breakfast the next time I'm in town. read more

Flew in to NY to celebrate a birthday, visit family, and do a bit of sightseeing; wanted to eat at a "diner" and chose this place. We were warmly greeted and seated immediately. I have been to this diner many times over the years. Good lord I don't know what happened. I'll start with the good. Our waiter and the manger were very friendly and accommodating. The FOOD was actually disgusting. I had a Rueben, the corn beef tasted old and on the verge of expiration. The 1000 island was yellow and had no taste the sauerkraut was dark brown out of a can. I couldn't eat it. We also had a Tex-mex salad, the shell was greasy and the chicken was not chopped, it was big strips and very hard to cut. My friend ordered a side of blue cheese no flavor like a 1.00 store product. Silver dollar pancakes were dry and flavorless. The Greek wrap had huge chunks of feta and the Taziki sauce had no flavor. The food at Nanuet Diner is decent -- classic diner fare that's good enough for a quick bite, and the service is usually fast. However, as a teenage girl who has eaten here alone, I've consistently felt extremely uncomfortable during my visits. Every time I've been there, certain staff members have made inappropriate comments, flirted with me, or said things that crossed the line. On one occasion, an employee even asked for my hand in marriage, which was completely uncalled for and made me feel unsafe. While the food is fine, I wouldn't recommend dining in if you're a woman eating alone or with other young friends. If you really want something from here, ordering takeout or pickup is a much better option. read more

They frequently gave the wrong order, didn't tell us when they ran out of something and still charged us for the stuff they didn't give us. The food I got was raw and tasted horrid. This is a diner in all the classical sense. Picture a diner in your head and that is what this is. Big menu which is standard. The food is decent. Soups are made daily and had a few options. Avoid this place! (Not just because the food is mediocre). On Saturday afternoon, when the place was virtually empty, our extended family of 7 went for lunch. When it came time to pay, our waitress brought us the bill, and we handed two credit cards and said "please split it evenly". She came back and said "we don't accept separte credit cards, it must go on one credit card". We were caught off guard as we were not each carrying enough cash for our share of the large meal. I asked to speak to a manager, and the waitress came back and said "she said to tell you there's no manager here". It was obviously a lie, and I saw "she" (the manager) on the way out, or at least someone acting in a position of authority, and "she" had no interest whatsoever in talking with me about the policy. There are much better diners in the area including Orangetown Classic Diner, and City Line Family Restaurant, with more extensive menus, better tasting food, AND they accept multiple credit cards. My boyfriend and I were hungry late at night and we were sick and tired of fast food. We wanted to try to eat a healthy home cooked meal- and the food available in Nanuet at 10pm is sub par and never that impressive .. we saw Nanuet diner and figured why not? At least it's something to eat. We ordered a roasted chicken with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes and gravy. We were BLOWN AWAY by Nanuet diner! The roasted chicken came out perfect.. it was flavorful, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Another delicious factor - the vegetables were cooked to perfection & the mashed potatoes and gravy was prepared as a great side dish. It's important to note the presentation - it is comparable to an upscale restaurant, not a town diner. Five stars on the service, the atmosphere and the taste of our fabulous meal. Not sure if there is new management but they definitely are doing something right. Nanuet diner is our new date spot and we look forward to coming back! Atrocious place that ruined our family get together. By far the worst small town diner I have been too because it actively treated us like garbage. It was after our group saw Elvis at the Palisades that we decided to meet back up here. Some of us haven't seen each other in months so it was a great opportunity to catch up. Immediately when entering the diner there were red flags. The place smelled like mold which was disturbing. As for the waitress she was on her phone and not once acknowledged us except to direct us to our seats. It was quite rude but that level of service didn't stop there. The booth we were assigned was between 2 other already seated booths. Mind you this is a tactic some diners deploy so that they don't have to make long walks from the kitchen. However there were plenty of others places they could of seated us for some better privacy. The place was nearly empty. What's worse the members of our party sitting on the left had to deal with the horrendous odor coming from our leftward neighbors. That with the moldy smell made some of us completely lose our appetites. Only half of us would order anything. After seating we also came to realize there was barely an AC. This was during a 95 in Nanuet and it still felt like a 95 at our booth... though if we were outside at least we could have had a breeze! If this was a good or conscientious diner the staff would of warned us the AC wasn't working properly. But of course not, they were too busy on their phones to speak to us. The only chill we got the entire time in the diner was from our server. He took our orders in such a cold and monotone way I thought he came out of a cheesy comedy movie were he was playing the waiter who hated his job. Maybe he did for all I know. Of course our orders also took a while, maybe 40 minutes, so we had to suffer all of this while waiting. The entire time we were not in the talkative mood with each other and with no privacy we couldn't even complain about the whole thing either. But all of that wasn't even the worse. No no. After we payed the check and were leaving some of us went to the bathroom. We sat in the right wing of the diner while the restrooms were on the left wing.... and I shit you not.... there was working AC in the left wing. Working AC with the vast majority of the tables in the left wing being empty. Working AC were the bar is AND THE STAFF SIT AT. I don't know what to say. This place wasn't just rude but MALICIOUS to its guests. The staff did not give two shits about us the entire time and I think I don't give a shit about this place. If you manage or own this place I think you should be ashamed of yourself. Your staff either need to be retrained, fired or paid better. Went here for the first time on way home. Will be my last time. The picture is their idea of stuffed clams with crabmeat. Did not know clams now look like foil tins with pieces of shrimp in them. The seafood bisque soup should have been my first warning. Fishy slop with no cream base for a bisque but maybe corn starch thickener? The final straw was the bill. My son ordered an early bird special, they brought him a dry piece of cake as part of the deal, and them they tried to charge us as if it wasn't an early bird special. When I asked for the manager a women came over who previously told me she was NOT the manager and asked what was wrong. Went there with a friend a few days ago for an early dinner and had a very enjoyable one! The broiled haddock was perfectly done and plentiful The soup had a lot of solids and was well seasoned. Service was prompt and friendly - and the price was definitely right. It's right across the street from the Shops at Nanuet on Rte 59., and they are open late. We weren't hassled even though we spent hours gabbing away. We'll definitely be back It may not be as spiffy looking as the Shops in the mail, but it's a much better deal! read more

The Nanuet Diner, ...truly a place worth avoiding! There were three in our party on this blustery, overcast average day just north of 'Gotham City' in the Rockland County hamlet of Nanuet. With a 1hr commute north to our residence still facing us around noon, we decided to find a place to eat. Nothing crazy was the consensus, and with a White Castel just 100 yards off the I-87 exit, the choice was a very simple one to make. The exit ramp was just long enough for us to debate the merits of splitting a 30 pack of White Castel in the car during a 1-hour drive home. When stopped at a light, the Nanuet Diner was spotted and seemed a better choice than 30 belly bombs. When we opened the door to this dilapidated diner we were greeted, or should I say, we were received by a female, approximately 50 years of age wearing a mid-drift black shirt exposing her 'ample' belly. Aside from the disturbing and completely inappropriate attire worn by the 'Hostess,' it was just the beginning. It gets 'better', without saying a word she pointed to her left as if directing a car through an intersection. We looked at each other before following her silent directions to an available booth. After we seated ourselves she returned with two menus for three people, flinging them on the table before walking back to the lunch counter where she had been watching Spanish TV at an outlandish volume level. My son suggested that we leave, but we didn't. After a few moments, our waitress showed up. She apologized for the wait explaining that she was the only one on duty for the entire restaurant. Well, I know that anything that happened past this point would be strictly my fault, as I was the husband and father responsible for protecting my wife and child. However, I wasn't at the top of my game this day, and contented myself with making a bad call figuring, how hard is it to screw up 2 burger deluxe's and a grilled chicken salad. During our wait, we were treated to what was probably the Jerry Springer TV show in Spanish. The 'Hostess' was completely entranced with viewing her device that she didn't know or care just how loud it was. When our orders arrived, the dishes seemed to be okay, that is visually. I took one bite of my Grilled Chicken Cesar Salad, instantly wishing that I had taken NO bites of it. It wasn't the rubbery texture that immediately alarmed me, actually, it was. I gave the second piece a visual inspection before executing a quick sniff test to determine if the Chicken was raw, which it wasn't. I was quite hungry, and the burgers seemed to be tolerable, so I decided to not say anything and soldier on with the Nanuet Diners version of a Grilled Caesar Salad. Now let us get into the actual salad. Aside from the 'chicken', the lettuce was Iceberg in type and rotten in nature. I always figured that Green was the preferable color for lettuce, however, the white, brown and wilted yellowish hue of my salad added an almost alien ambiance to the foliage which dwelled under the six slices of foul fowl. I picked away three of the slices which contained all types of secondary Bio-structures such as nerves, veins, and tendons, leaving myself with two that appeared to be solid meat. Since the cook must have used a teaspoon to measure out the dressing, I figured to request an additional portion of the murky goldish fluid. Not seeing our waitress, I motioned to the Hostess. Boy, was that a mistake. She flung her arms apart while flashing me a scowl reminiscent of the ones my mother wore before attacking with a wooden spoon. It was clear that the raising of my hand while muttering, "Excuse me, madam," must be some sort of insult back in her home country, where ever that was. Her retort to my request came in the form of screaming out at the top of her voice for our waitress in a Spanish dialect. I felt guilty for asking her to bring some additional dressing, so I just asked for a refill of coffee, which by the way was the ONLY redeemable item in this place. Needless to say, it was time to leave, and as quickly as possible. I asked for the check, paid in cash, and left with 60% of our 'food' still on the table. We'd only been driving for 5 minutes before that 'Not so good' feeling hit me in the stomach. I was driving a Dodge Charger with a Hemi engine and was able to cut the 1-hour drive down to 45 minutes, breaking the land speed record to my toilet. After, well, you know 'What'' I was able to extricate my lunch from my 'stomach' without much effort. Thanks to the Nanuet Diner, and 7% inflation, I was able to cleanse both my intestines and my wallet of $41.00 for two burgers and one Grilled Ceaser Salad, and a few pounds of bio-waste. As a 24 hour joint I'm sure there's hours to avoid like the plague. I guess if I have to complain it seemed like the homefry portion was a bit lacking, but I still walked out stuffed, so whatever.
