i've eaten at this establishment before and am a fan of their offerings! the national harbor location is situated in the heart of their downtown. the interior is the same as the others i've been to, family style round booth seating mixed with proper chairs. we came for lunch on a friday and it was moderately busy. i ordered my favourite, the rainbow bowl with grilled boneless chicken breast, plainish seasoning. all the colours of the rainbow are really represented here, with tomatoes, hummus, avocado, cauliflower...with a beautiful breast of chicken sitting atop these fresh colourful veggies. it took me some time, but i thoroughly enjoyed my plate, eating almost every bit of food that was on the plate. service was very good, at one point they even moved us b/c our initial table was a bit wobbly. the second table was very nice in that it was tucked in a corner, and quieter, away from the door too. i wish we had this where i live in california, but until then, this will always be on my list to eat whenever i'm back in the dmv! read more

We stood in line which took about 10 to 15 minutes. Once we placed the order we stood by the pick up counter, expecting it to come out rather promptly. No lie, from the time I ordered, based on my receipt, to the time they called us, It was 31 minutes! We saw the sandwiches sitting there for 10 to 15 minutes waiting to be wrapped. Other orders were done before ours. Mind you, the bread was soggy from the condiments and the lettuce and tomato chillin on it. I didn't understand why someone else had to wrap it and put it in the bag. As expected, my chicken rainbow bowl was cold. The rice was cold and dry. Couldn't even warm it up because of the avocado, hummus and tomatoes in it. We had missing sides. One of the sides given was incorrect. We had to go back to ask for the missing sides. You would think after 30 minutes, they would have our order correct. The manager was nice enough to understand the frustration after the employee tried to correct us and said she did put the correct sides. No one is trying to lie for coleslaw...... I was staying at the Gaylord and should have come here for every dinner instead of the overpriced mediocrity at the hotel. Service was friendly and kind. The restaurant itself was very clean which seems rare for "fast food". While I was there a tour bus of about 20 kids showed up. The employees worked together to make the experience great for everyone. I ordered chicken with the cauliflower. It was great. I ended up buying several bottles of their sauce for souvenirs. The interior is a really cool design and it's very clean and very well organized, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and attentive . Our food was full of flavor and priced right for this location . If you're in the area, it is worth stopping by and trying it. They do have various menu selections to choose from with many many options. We came here since we were hungry and wanted to eat before riding the Ferris wheel. The concept is fast casual which mixes fast food with a sit down restaurant. A host sat us and we had to order and pay (and tip) using a QR code on the table. We had to get our own utensils and water but our food was brought to our table when it was ready. The concept was a bit confusing since there were no water cups and plates at the self serve area so I had to wait to ask an employee who gave me some cups. We also had to ask for crayons to fill out the kids menu. When I went to the bathroom, there was only two stalls and one wad out of service. The available one was absolutely disgusting, pee and toilet paper everywhere and it was unflushed. I asked an employee to clean it and when I came back later although it was clean there was no toilet paper! Also when my mom asked if she could grab a plate since they were not at the self serve station, the employee snarkily said "well you touched it so yeah" It felt pretty cold and unwelcoming yet we still tipped 15% because we didn't know if the employees relied on tips so that clarification would have been nice. I ordered the garlic bread CLT which was absolutely delicious, my first time trying this restaurant. The chicken is so moist and flavorful and served a good portion. I used a sauce from the self service area which made it taste even better. We parked at the parking garage which is across the street and only $5 for 1.5 hours or less. read more

This Nando's is a mess, and our experience this year only confirmed the issues we had last year. Came here for dinner on a Wednesday as we were in town for MAGFest. Despite them being busy, we had a table in around 10 minutes. Everyone ordered using their phones, with one us trying to use the app to order a cocktail, but could not due to the app having faults. The Macho Peas have been removed from the menu since our last visit to a Nando's, a great disappointment. Half our table received their orders in 10-20 minutes and finished eating before the other half were able to even start. A staff member even checked in and came back saying they were backed up. It took 40 minutes in total for everyone to finally receive their orders. That was bad enough, but worse my boneless Chicken Brest came with the Hot flag despite ordering Lemon & Herb. I promptly sent it back and flagged the women who appeared to the manager and nicely complained. I finally received the correct order a few minutes later. The food when it finally arrived was good. Something in the last two years has changed at this location for the worst and it needs to be corrected. The only other positive thing I can add, is we came here for lunch another day, and I had my order in less then 10 minutes. Everything about Nando's is fantastic! I am overdue on this review from September, but I had to highly recommend. The people are amazing at Nando's! We received such great service and care during our sit down meal. I had the Brussel sprouts and lemon chicken. The chicken was incredibly moist and fell off the bone. I also had the custard dessert which was fantastic. The restaurant was lively with decorations giving a nod to South African roots. Plenty of booth seating, pick your own sauces, and lots of space. I loved the sink outside of the bathroom to wash your hands. I went back a second night to buy chicken to take home! I've been to Nando's in London as well which was equally delicious, but I am so glad I went here! read more

First impressions are very telling! I love Nandos but this location needs some revamping. My grandmother lives on the National Harbor and when I come to visit her I usually bring her food. This day I was starving and only brought food for her. So I decided to try out Nando's for myself. Upon entering there was a foul smell, like mold or an old basement. The restaurant was pretty empty. I placed my order at the counter. The guy that took my order was in no hurry, seemed to be a little spaced out. When ordering he told me several items were out. Corn, Brussels..... which made me want to cancel my order. I was hungry so I said ok I'll just get the rice and coleslaw. As I was leaving I checked my bag some items were missing. It took almost 27 min to get my order. Again the restaurant was empty. As I watched the kitchen staff make orders I noticed no gloves were used, 3 of the employees in the kitchen were touching their phones then back to touching food items. I was all the way turned off due to this experience. Once u made it to my grandmothers house I opened my items and was disappointed. We had lunch at Nando's both days that we attended Magfest at the Gaylord Convention Center. Both times we barely waited more than 15 minutes for a table of 4, which honestly, was not bad at all considering people were waiting upwards of 20 minutes for chicken tenders inside the convention center. If you can make it for their lunch specials, they're really good deals. Otherwise it does get a little pricier. It's still a better meal and deal than eating inside the convention center though, so I still would recommend venturing out to Nandos. I had a chicken breast sandwich my first time and then the bowl with rice and salad on the second visit. Both were good and hit the spot. It's all digital though, so you do look at the menu on your phone and then order on your phone. They bring out your food when it's ready. read more

While it was very well spiced, I will say that it wasn't very spicy (I got the very hot). I got the Portuguese rice and Macho peas as my sides and they were both impressive -- packed with flavor! The staff were wonderful, and the South African Sauvignon Blanc they had was crisp and an easy drinker (I'm pretty sure it's unoaked, but I haven't fact-checked this statement yet). So amazing that we went to the Potomac location the next day and right out the gate the ambience, service and food 10's across the board!! I've added them to my honeycomb hideout list. Back to damn, damn, damn... National Harbor location do better. Food was less than subpar. I'm so unimpressed I can't even finish eating so I'm exhausting my time by posting this review. And my liver still hasn't arrived with the rest of the food. We ordered at 1730 and my liver didn't arrive to the table until 1802; this was after the charred soggy cauliflower; wait how can soggy cauliflower be charred. I'm sick just trying to process that. The liver is dry and pasty, tastes nothing like the two other locations. I'm familiar with the fact that food texture taste can vary between locations, this is so bad. Came back after a few years to give this place another chance. That was a mistake. Not only was the service just as bad as the last time we came in, the food quality also diminished. We came in with a large group and we were told to return 30 minutes later. When we were notified to come back, there wasn't even enough space to seat our party... like 5 chairs short. Another table near us also complained that the table they felt squished at the location they were seated at. They now allow for customers to order through the app instead of standing in line. Once the food came out, the "servers" placed the food at the end of the table and told us to distribute it ourselves. When we directed them to the correct person who ordered the dish, we were met with eye rolls, attitude, and "we're just trying to get the food out as fast as possible." That was so wild to me given that there's one less job they had to do. The food was just ok. I ordered The PERi Chicken Rainbow Bowl. It sounded delicious, but wasn't as great. The protein to rice ratio was off. In the picture, you can see that tiny piece of chicken for all the rice. The food wasn't even warm when it arrived and the rice was very watery. I have not been served and hosted the way I have when I came here today in a long, long time. As soon as we arrived, a very nice lady greeted us, asked us where we wanted to sit inside the restaurant, gave us menus and told us the flow of things. We ordered at the counter with her where she was very professional and repeated our order back to us. When the food was brought out, it was hot, fresh, and very, very flavorful. The chicken was to die for. So moist. During our dining experience, we were checked on multiple times by different staff members, brought napkins, and even had our drinks refilled. A nice man asked my husband whose drink was running low "what are you drinking sir? I got you." He didn't have to do that. There seems to be an attitude of "I don't have to do that" at many establishments, not this one. Everyone took ownership. The place was very clean, well lit, staff was all around making sure the place was running smoothly. I can tell the staff takes pride in their hospitality. Truly an 11/10 experience. So happy with the food and my experience. Will be back. I wish I had the names of the staff members who helped us to give them a personal shoutout. True professionalism. We were in the area for my dad's birthday on a Saturday night. We wanted to see national harbor and the Gaylord center. We parked our car and walked around. Most of the restaurants in the area appeared to be packed, including Nando but we decided to do Nando and also we believed my dad being a vegan can find something on the menu. We had to wait 15 to 20 minutes to be seated. We were then told to order our food online by scanning the QR code. At first it was confusing and it was hard to find someone to ask questions but we did figure it out. It was pretty busy in there and we could tell that the staff were overwhelmed and we didn't want to add to their stress so when they told us that something that most of us ordered is not available and it would take about an hr to get ready, we just ordered something else. We didn't want to be difficult. Overall, the experience wasn't too bad. We wish it was better. The foods were good. I know they specialize in chicken and most of my family ordered chicken but I got the chicken Caesar salad wrap because I wanted to try something else. It was okay. I really don't like having to order using my phone. If we weren't with a group of people, we would have just left. I also don't like being asked to leave a tip before service has been rendered. A friend recommended this place since they really liked their chickens so we tried. Got scolded by the staff for seating down at a table when it is a self service restaurant. They didn't like that they had to clean the table while we were already seated or they just didn't like that we asked them to clean the tables? Not sure which one. My son asked if we did something wrong after us being scolded. The food took 20 mins after ordering. The chickens are spicy even if you selected plain options. There's cross contamination of sauces as I watched them cook the chickens on the grill. My wife is extremely sensitive to spiciness and could barely eat any of the supposedly plain (non-spicy) chicken. I got a veggie burger wrap with a half an avocado suppose to be inside the wrap. I think I got a quarter at best. The wrap was dry and some parts of the veggie burger was extremely difficult to eat due to crunchy hard bits and some large pieces that were also hard and crunchy. The drinks never came and upon finishing our meal I had to cancel the drinks. That took 15 minutes and I'm not sure if the numbers are right. Seems a little off. During this time of waiting I just stood there and nobody acknowledged me while the manager was in the back. Nobody told me the manager would come get me at the table or that I could take a seat, for example. I didn't want to leave just in case this would extend the wait time since I didn't receive direction and wasn't told how long the wait would be. The manager was nice but his staff needs a better work ethic and treat customers like customers who are paying for not only food but an experience. Even paid tips for self service. The manager thinks he needs more employees.
