What an amazing experience I had here. My expectations and reality were the same here. I heard it would be perfection and it was! The food was spectacular, there was street parking, ambiance was cozy and the service was outstanding. Nancy cakes- 5/5 Holy cow this blew my mind. The salmon roe was suuuch a nice touch. Beef fat rice- 4/5 The flavor on this was so good and the various textures were exciting I just expected the portion to be bigger although between 2 people we brought home leftovers. The drink- 3/5 this was a good drink but it wasn't a great drink. The flavors were lemon and lavender. Portion was tiny. Fries- 2/5- Honestly they were dry and not salted properly. I wouldn't recommend them unless you need fries with your burger. Maybe it was an off day. The aoli was a nice touch. Brown butter cookie- 4/5 This cookie was good, the flavors were unique, and it came warm but it wasn't the best cookie I've ever had. Burger- 1000/5 I saved the best for last. This is a MUST try. Do not doubt the powers of a burger at a spot like this. I was like oh I'll get the braised beef that came with the rice but it was 102$ MKT so I went with my second choice which was the burger and wow I am SO glad I went for it. The grilled chicken was good had a nice flavor, the texture of the nancy's cakes were nice really soft and fluffy but the butter it comes with is a little salty because of the caviar. I came here for a late dinner and shared the Nancy cakes, an octopus dish, a pasta dish, and a dessert. The menu changes often, but the Nancy cakes are consistently there. The Nancy cakes were soft with a dense cornbread crumb; they also had a nice crispy exterior. They were nice to try but not sure if I'd get them again. I enjoyed both the octopus dish and the pasta dish more. The octopus and potatoes were very tender, and I enjoyed the capers that came with the dish. I did feel the portion of the octopus was pretty small, even for a shareable dish between 2 people, each person only had a couple bites of octopus. The pasta dish had perfectly al dente pasta with soft chunks of meat and a really savory salty sauce. I also enjoyed the texture added by the crispy parmesan. I've spent some time traveling, and a good amount of time eating, and I'll tell you - sometimes there's a restaurant, well it's the spot for its time and place. This one fits right in there. That's Nancy's Hustle. The first time was a party, all thrills. Wine and cocktail program is refined but modern. Also accommodating allergic-types, and they're not marking up NA bevvies like so many other trendy spots. Table service is indoor or outdoor, space for walk-in & wait out front with a drink - not too bad if you come early. I prefer the bar because there are many more opportunities to learn about the concept and their food - Daniel was a sweet dream of a tender. They earned their Michelin recognition for the food, and that's largely locally sourced, inventive, but still accessible to traditional palates and wallets. This visit had a Duck Rillette on the menu - obviously rich, cut by pickled (think kraut-y) mustard leeks and goat cheese, served on a bed of crunchy potato hash. Paired with their grilled asparagus with shades of char, crunchy anchovy breadcrumb reminiscent of Caesar blended with gobs of béarnaise - pretty much all you need in a meal. Of course there's more, a warm sesame brown butter cookie paired with vanilla bean ice cream and almond chili crisp may shift natural laws of attraction beyond comprehension, but sweet gratitude! They also had outdoor seating but it was cold the night we went so we were happy to be inside. The hostesses were lovely. They gave us a list of other restaurant recommendations in the area which was awesome! I love seeing small businesses supporting other local businesses! Noah was our waiter and he was great. He suggested the squash dish which we absolutely loved and wouldn't have tried if he didn't recommend! I was hesitant about the burger, because what's so special about a burger, but the melty cheese and other toppings, it melted in your mouth. The gem salad was also great to start with. Overall, the hype is real. The food is worth coming back for, the ambience is worth choosing for a weekly/monthly date night and the staff is the kind you stop from filling your water too often. My boyfriend has been wanting to go to this restaurant for two months and he wouldn't stop talking about how amazing the burger is supposed to be. We finally make it there after a week of looking forward to going there specifically for their burger and it was incredibly underwhelming. He told us while walking away that the kitchen will not cut our burger in half and that is what the knife was for...I know this sounds petty and it feels ridiculous to bring up, but what's even more ridiculous is the fact that they wouldn't cut our burger in half for us... like seriously??? What the actual f***... I really hope its not because they didn't want to ruin the " beautiful presentation" because the burger came on a small plate with an olive and tooth pick in it ... ??????? Michelin rankings have come to Houston and this spot is well deserving of their Bib Gourmand status! The restaurant itself is located just east of Downtown Houston. There is a good amount of street parking but signage is minimal. Inside, the restaurant has a quant and cozy vibe with warm lighting, open kitchen, a handful of tables, and bar area. Reservations were not hard to make but I recommend doing so at least two weeks out if you are looking to sit in the dining room. Our group got a variety of cocktails throughout the night. The Tire Swing and Corner Pocket were both the fan favorites being so unique in flavor profile yet continuously enjoyable. We also tried the Silver Lining, Ruby Slippers, and The Colder Room. The recommended starters were the Dumplings and Nancy Cakes; we also tried the Croquettes. Please note that for small plates, as they become ready staff will serve them immediately. The Croquettes came out first which had the perfect crunch, gooey inside, and balanced the savory yet creamy taste I was hoping for. Next were the Dumplings which offered a savory meat filling paired with a bright, dill forward sauce. Last were the Nancy Cakes which was a group favorite. The cake comes warm and fluffy to pair with the fresh churned butter and roe. Each bite was a perfect bite. All appetizers we ordered came with 4-5 pieces to share. For entrees we each got a main and continued to share sides. I ordered the Cheeseburger which was a bit messy from the cheese and aioli but was surprisingly filling and had a great flavor profile. Others in my group got the Duck Breast which they raved about and Octopus which was a bit more spicy than expected. For sides, we shared the Fries, Beef Fat Sticky Rice, and Sourdough. There was not a dish that we weren't impressed by! Cody was our server and did a wonderful job pacing our food, checking in to see if we needed more drinks, and went above and beyond for service. The Michelin bar was met with constant water refills, new silverware when transitioning from starters to entrees, and even having the table wiped. I wasn't a fan of the dim lighting at first, but after a few minutes I realized that we were here for an intimate and personable experience not just to eat. I recently moved from LA and chose Nancy's Hustle to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday after lots of research. The food? Incredible. But the service and vibe were not on the same level. We arrived 18 minutes late due to rain and parking. The staff said they'd still seat us -- which I appreciated -- but we were placed outside in what's basically the parking lot. A car's headlights were shining right at us, and my boyfriend had to get up himself to ask the driver to turn them off. That should've been handled by staff. It killed the vibe for a celebration. Our waitress was dry and disengaged from the start -- no warmth, no acknowledgment of the occasion. Bugs in our bread (replaced but not comped), no birthday dessert or mention, and the outdoor fans left my boyfriend feeling sick. To top it off, when I was trying to find my umbrella in the rain, the hostess told me to just take any of them -- which felt careless after everything. We ate here in late September, and it was amazing! The parking is not good, but there is some street parking on a pretty wide street, so not terrible. Inside smelled amazing, we did see the patio, but with the soccer games going on next door and the street noise, I think inside is the move. Food: We tried five items and a dessert. I've ranked these chronologically. 1. Oysters in escabeche This was almost like a Mexican style oyster with less emphasis on the cold, fresh, briney taste of oysters and more on the escabeche. The sauce had more of a crunchy chew to it which somewhat messed with the oyster itself, and it was lukewarm. It was good, but we would skip it next time. 2. Shrimp and beef dumplings This is the unsung star of the meal in my opinion. The dumplings are moderately densely packed with shrimp and a light dough wrapper. There are some mint and jalapeno herbs to add some freshness through the very rich sauce, but the real star is the beef sauce with flecks of meat throughout. It is more sinewed meat and we found ourselves scooping up the rest of the sauce at the end. 3. Nancy Cakes These are everyones #1 item, and while they were very good, I would say they played second fiddle to the dumplings. The cakes are very basic cornmeal, but fluffier than a cornbread. The cultured butter was almost sweet and airy, and it melted on top of the cakes. I think you have to get them here as they are well known, but I would recommend them second in a pinch. 4. Roasted Chicken This was really interesting, because the skin and bark had all the hallamarks of a roasted rosemary chicken, but the sauce was almost citrusy, cutting through the fatty chicken skin. The white meat was a bit dry, so would not recommend getting multiples for larger groups. It came in 4 pieces for us, which I believe was a half chicken cut. 5. Beef Fat Sticky Rice This is basically just fried rice with crispy scallions and capers. It's a good filler, but we would probably skip it next time. Good texture and cooking, but at $8, probably not worth the calories. 6. Baked Alaska This is a toatsted merengue on top of sweet corn ice cream and a chocolate wafer base. I cannot stress enough how much you need to like corn to like this dessert. I was not ready for it and did not enjoy it as much, but the toasted merengue on top was delicious, just like a marshmallow! Service: Our server was excellent and the dishes came out at the pace we ate at. All in, we only took 70 minutes and they constantly cleaned our tables and cleared our plates. 10/10. Ambiance: I love the vibe inside, which is half open kitchen so the smells of the cooking can permeate into the dining space, and half seating. We were at a smaller table, and though I was initially disappointed, I think getting to people watch and see all of the food runners added to our experience. There is a cozy area in the back too for additional seats, but it would have felt less "upclass" in that area. The noise level is moderate. read more

We came with some friends to Nancy's Hustle and loved it! You definitely need to make a reservation, because they get busy. They have a small patio outside as well. Cocktails were tasty - if you like spicy cocktails, I definitely recommend the Spicy Boi No. 3. All the food was fantastic- you of course have to get the Nancy Cakes. But we really enjoyed every single dish we got - the cucumbers came with a great crunch, eggplant was delicious, okra had an Indian feel to it, squash and mushrooms were very unique and tasty, octopus was cooked perfectly, and branzino was yummy! I wasn't the biggest fan of the desserts, but they were still good. We'll definitely be back over and over! read more
