So let me start by saying do not come here if you aint got no money or time . I live in bowie md and lemme tell yall .... The prices over in BOWIE MARYLAND are high but coming to this shop in dc is outrageous the reason i came back here is its convenient at the time . The first time i came i got my toes color changed and big toe fill color change and i wanted a fill in because i already had a set on but the guy ended up taking my set off and putting a new set on and colored powder.... My design i wanted... i got 4 nails design and spent 140 .... So their thing is to make you feel like they are hooking you up but no that is not the case. They overcharging US GUYS . 2 weeks later my 3 of my nails started lifting so i ripped them off .... so i go back and get them to do a fill and put 3 nails on ... i wanted 4 nail designs as the first set but once i heard the price im like .... Naw GUYS IT WAS $90 for all of it ... i told them no lets just keep it basic just gel polish ... $70 I do hair so i cutt like 6 nails down . The next week i come and get them to do i file and polish change ... she said she can charge $60 for a fill in as well... Long story im like okay... as long as i get my polish and shape everything im cool cuz i got 6 short nails and 4 long nails (braiders nails) I arrived today at 7:00 asked the lady is it going to be long because i have to leave to pick my man up from football practice . She said no it wouldnt take long to get me serviced . Plus i have my 1 year old with me .... I sat there for 30 mins pissed cuz i couldve went next door ... soon as im starting to leave the lady says oh baby we do it now ... This establishment does not open on time. The window reflects a 10am business beginning time, the lies...I arrived at 10am and returned around 10:28am, they weren't ready to make money. One elderly man assisted another lady with starting her pedicure and had to call to get an estimated time of arrival for the other staff member. I asked him when someone is expected to arrive and he responded 15 min. I understand traffic and unforeseen circumstances, but, I've heard of this experience happening at this same establishment. This place is the definition of mediocre. I was initially told that I wouldn't wait long. Ended up waiting 40+ min for a basic pedicure. I got a French pedicure but the dude who performed the service forgot to put the base coat on. Literally only put the top coat on. And then he forgot to put oil on my feet/legs. I had to remind him. I called the shop to make an appointment with Crystal on June 8 at 12:15 p.m. I was told she was busy and would call me back in 30 minutes. I received a call back at 1:18 p.m. The appointment was made for June 15 at 11 a.m. I was in the shop at 10:45 a.m. Another person came in for Crystal for an 11 a.m. appointment with the same name as mine. Stephanie texted me to confirm the appointment the morning of the appointment. I confirmed I had an appointment with Crystal. Keep in mind that this is my second time going to this shop. I only knew Crystal's name. Stephanie asked me to have a seat in her chair and went to do someone else's feet. She gave me attitude. After Stephanie said she would take care of my service, she left me at her station for 20 minutes and said nothing. Mimi said she would service me, and she did a great job. There were many people who walked in without an appointment. The people who had appointments were waiting. Every time I had an appointment, which was every two week I had to come back the next day. A nail would break I would tell her, but she would say my nail was soft. I would tell her the broke 2 hours after I left her. Today I had an appointment at 11 am, she had just started a customer when I arrived, did not say anything to me then did a walk-in eyebrows. Went here for the 2nd time today. I finally got service done after an hour of waiting. In fact, a customer who came in after me without an appointment either was helped before me. And service happened to be prompt for everyone who came after me(lucky them, or, bad on Nails Etc staff). Also, if you can't communicate or understand what customers are saying, that gives rise to problems and a bad experience. This was genuinely the worst nail salon i've ever been to. The employees and the store don't even deserve one star. My friends and I had appointments for gel/dip fills and we were there almost 2 hours. The store was disgusting with bugs everywhere and fly traps hanging from the ceiling giving a very non relaxing vibe and environment. My friends and I left covered in bug bites. Note - this isn't a "spa" it's a nail shop, that's on every corner in every neighborhood - this one just happens to be the best of the best! Nails Etc is one of the few places i like in my area to get my nails done. The actual building isn't as nice but once you're inside the peopel are super nice and will cater to whatever you need. What I like most about the place is the extra fluff that other places try to up-charge for evey little thing. For instance, there mani's and pedi's always include a scrub and paraffin wax - that's usually like a $20 up charge at other places. In addition, they always offer a 15% discount on ALL service, so it's super cheap. (I think a pedi is $24 and a mani is $12) - where in DC can you find these sorts of prices? Oh and the eyebrow wax is $7 - wowzers.... If you stop in, tell them I sentcha cuz that's how much I'm in this place.... read more

Minh was great. I called first to make sure they could take me b/c I had a short window of time. I had a 1:00 business meeting not far, and I arrived around 12:00. I only needed a polish change, but I had to have it done quickly. When I arrived, I was quickly seated and Minh got to work. He asked me questions about how much travel time it would take me to get to my meeting b/c he wanted to ensure I was not late. He did a fantastic job, especially considering the time crunch I was in. Let's start by focusing on the positive, shall we? Nails Etc. includes a complimentary paraffin dip with all manicures and pedicures. That's a really classy touch, and it's generally an add-on. 1 star for that! And the whole "wrap your leg in some nice-smelling stuff with warm moist towels" thing was lovely. Also, they were able to take me pretty quickly as a walk-in on a summer afternoon, and almost everyone was friendly. And, of course, their mani/pedi summer special was pretty inexpensive ($36). Except that it was also the hands-down worst manicure and pedicure I've ever gotten in my life, so it's still not exactly what you'd call a good deal. Well. ahem. As you've no doubt gathered, thus ends the positive portion of this review. When previous reviewers say that this place is filthy, They're Not Kidding. It's . . . unfathomably dirty. It's where dirt goes to die (I used to think that was Binghamton, NY, but now I know otherwise). Don't get me wrong: at this price point, I was not expecting a spa-like environment. And frankly, I have a pretty high tolerance for a little crust around the edges -- it's character building. But Nails Etc takes dirty to a whole new dimension. In addition to being really effing unclean, they were incredibly unhygenic. My terminal gross-out point came when my technician grabbed a soggy loofah out of the pedicure tub next to me and started to use it on me. Blech! And, y'know, I don't expect anyone to be mesmerized by my feet, but the man who did my manicure and pedicure was so DISinterested I wasn't sure I'd ever get to leave. Throughout the pedicure, he: * took several long breaks to watch/discuss key plays in the Ravens game, * answered his cell phone and stayed on the call for the rest of the pedicure, * got up and left the room with his phone for at least five minutes (twice!), presumably to speak in private,** and * got up and walked away (twice!) before starting the manicure to do who knows what. So all told, I was in the mani/pedi chairs for 2 hours and 40 minutes. After all that, he was really sloppy with the nail polish, fingers and toes. Sloppy enough that I had to take it off by that evening. No base coat, no top coat, and the color was glooped on so thickly and unevenly that I could have done a better job myself (Note: this is a VERY low standard). Bottom line? Never ever going back. ** In fairness, I did worry that the call was related to some type of emergency. Family comes first, life happens. If there's a crisis, I don't expect my stupid pedicure to take priority. But he told me at the end of the appointment that a friend of his had called several times and he thought it was easier to take the call than to put her off. read more

I came in here on the day of the earthquake. I guess I was a little shaken up because this place is a little dirty on 1st look. Ok, it's a LOT dirty. Even the male manicurist (who didn't work on me by the way) had dirty feet. I mean working in the yard dirty. Yuck. I should have left. The $36.00 summer mani pedi special, the proximity to my house, and my dam near desperation for nail attention kept me here. But honestly, after about 10 minutes here, I noticed they were a lot lax on the disinfection and I was scared for my skin. Fortunately, anytime I suggested One (my pedicurist) clean something or do something different, she JUMPED at the chance to do so. I liked that in her. Anything I wanted, she would do it. The pedicure was actually fantastic. It was in the typical massage chair with my feet in a hydro-jet bowl of blue, soapy water, and they clipped and filed, and sanded my tootsies well. But that is where the typicality ends. They also give the most intense foot-calf massage I've ever had outside of a real spa. It is with some citrus sugar scrub and warm oil. After that, they hot parrafin dip your feet and put hot towels around your clay masque covered legs and the plastic bags containing your parrafeet. Nice. Very nice. Spa pedicure for half the price. The manicure was weird. A different employee worked on my hands simultaneously. Yes, during my pedicure. So, in a sense, it was overstimulation. But I managed. The weird part was extending my left arm all the way over to where she stood (at the right side of my pedi-chair). She never changed places, she just firmly pulled my arm to where she could reach it. Ugh. Not comfy honey. Anyway, I managed through that, too. In retrospect, I wish I hadn't because three-days later, I had hang-nails galore. Ugh. Nails Etc. is A-Ok for the pedicure only. The old addage, you get what you pay for rings true at this place! I ran across the other reviews and I thought this nail salon would be fabulous. I'm not sure if I went to the same place as the others but the Nails Etc I went to was FILTHY! There was two layers of dust, plastic nails, and food on the floor, the garbage cans were over flowing, and the nails stations disgusting. I'm mad at myself for not noticing all this before I sat in the tub for my pedicure - which is a whole other story of nasty. These people do NOT do a thourough job of cleaning the tub between clients. When I saw one of the tech( I use that term loosely), swish water around to clean the tub after the person, she was working on I knew I wouldn't be back. They don't clean their instruments, AT ALL! After they work on one person's feet with the clippers, cuticle pushers, etc, they just sick them back in their little carry kits, not rinsing, or even running water over them. Then we have the dreadful paraffin wax treatment. They have everyone getting a pedicure stick their feet in the same wax tub, without even changing the wax! It's a wonder no one has caught an infection here! Goes over to the color and brings back a different shade... Well what good is that gonna do!??? I LOOOOOOOOVE having my nails done! Have been serviced all over the US! In airports and all. (Most people don't go to nail salons in the airport) I have NEVER EVER not had OPI GEL POLISH stick to my fingers!!! The color she was trying I HAVE HAD!!!! Whatever!! You should know I despise giving bad reviews, but when a girl's tips and toes are at stake, you gotta do what cha gotta do. With that said, I've recently been prompted to knock off a few stars from the gleeming review I gave Nails Etc. last year. It appears as though they have not only slacked on their cleaning duties, (as it gets dustier and grittier with each visit) but also on the quality of their products. In the beginning, I would leave foot loose and fancy free, knowing my nails wouldn't chip, scratch, or budge a bit. But lately, it seems that they must have purchased a cheaper gel product, and have possibly been thining out their polish; because my last fill-in (gel overlay) didn't even last a week before corners were chipping and I was nicking my hoisery. All-in-all, the staff is still just as bubbly as the day I walked through the door, and are some of the sweetest people I've ever met. Absolutely horrible. I have been getting full set gels for a good portion of my life. I go to new nail salons when I can and this place is absolutely horrific. One they advertise $35 full set gel and for some reason my total was $40, no explanation. The lady who did my nails rushed so fast, she barley filed my nails correctly, improperly glued my nail and did not clean underneath. I was here a couple months ago and seriously debated whether I should review it or not, because I hate giving small business bad ratings. Unfortunately though, I paid $30 for an OPI Axxium manicure that completely peeled off within 3 days. I had previously gotten one in NY that lasted a month and I only got it taken off because my nails were growing out, so I know it's them and not my nails. I got the mani on a Monday though, and by Friday, the polish was completely off and my nails looking horribly damaged. I almost gave them 2 stars because they were nice, and they're probably perfectly fine for a basic mani/pedi if you're not looking for the soak-off Axxium, but my only experience was with the Axxium, and I can't give them more than a star for that, as bad as it makes me feel. read more

Yelpers have let me down! This place is the worst nail experience Ive ever had. I called to make an appointment at 5 and the lady keeps rushing me off the phone. Im asking her dont you need my name?!? I go and she says there is no appointment for me. There is people every where complaining that they have been waiting 2 and 3 hours to be serviced. So after talking with the lady and showing her my call log on my phone proving that I did call much earlier she started on my pedi in about 10 min. I had a guy and the pedi was ok. If I make an appointment, there is NO reason for me to have to come and sit for an hour or two. This was the reason, I stopped coming. At first they Stephanie was good and then after that all went down hill I was getting my nails done and then one by one the nails started to come off ! I was in search for a new nail salon and decided to give Nails Etc. a try. I have acryllic nails and rarely can find a place that can do them they way that I liked. There are alot of inexperienced nail technicials out there that don't know what they are doing. Kim did my nails and I love the shape and she did the design that I asked. I went to CUA and this was the closet nail salon and I loved it! I've gone to other places near the Hill and they rip you off and its way over priced for the service. I have moved away from Brookand but still stop by every two weeks to get a fill-in. Granted the prices are a bit higher than I'm used to growing up in New York City, but the place is clear and they remember you. I went again today for a second time. The previous time I got OPI Axxium, which lasted 3 weeks! It took a very long time to take off though. I tried Shellac instead this time and I love it so far, it's thinner and more natural looking then OPI gel manicure. I am surprised that my manicure did not include any paraffin wax or massage. my nails look very nice but it does not have that extra touch now that i'm thinking of it. last time i had paraffin wax on my feet, it was probably the best pedi i've ever gotten, i wish the mani's were on par. read more

Literally the WORST! SLOWEST! Nail salon in business. I was in this place 4 hours for them to still mess up my nails and can't do a decent pedicure at all. When it came time to pay they started making up prices adding extra charges like I didn't know what the actual price was. There is only ONE good nail tech in this salon, but if and there're only a total of 4. You come in for a pedi they send you straight to the chair and have you soaking for hours so you can't leave bc they don't wanna miss out on money. read more
