I am in Boulder for business and needed a pedicure badly so I found Gina and saw 5 star rating so made an appointment for a Green Tea pedicure! OMG! Best pedicure I have ever had! First of all, Gina's chairs are not the usual massage chairs but rather a comfy seat to sink into and relax and I truly did! I took a nap through most of my service! She starts off with a green tea mask on your legs that is wrapped in cellophane and wrapped in a warm towel while your feet soak and then she gently trims and scrubs feet! Gina's massage is like foot reflexology! It was amazing and thorough from knees to toes! The whole treatment was over an hour long! A pedicure by Gina is amazing! What sets her apart is the massage she does to the calves and feet. She spends at least 10 minutes on each side. Deep tissue massage, then some pounding, then hot stone massage, then hot towel wrap and more massaging. She pays attention to every toe! AND, it is a tiny salon-just her and two chairs. This business has changed dramatically for the worse, definitely don't recommend anymore, and it's wise to look elsewhere. Some of the issues include: - Lack of sanitization of instruments/basins or even hand washing - Lack of punctuality or honoring time allotments - Strong preferences for some clients over others - Rough and harsh treatment (cuts, scrapes) - High prices - Old items used between clients (not even cleaned more than a rinse off) I used to love coming here, and I've had quite a few pedicures and sometimes manicures here for the last nearly 5 years, but recently and especially today her services have taken a sharp turn for terrible. ---------------- Today's story (sorry its long): I showed for my appointment a few minutes early and waited in the hallway. After being already 5 minutes into my appointment time she was still working on the lady before me. She filled the pedicure basin so I could come in and get my feet soaking, but it looked like it had not been cleaned so I asked and she told me that her current client was only a manicure and that she'd cleaned it earlier. Mind you, I walked in and there was stuff strewn about like it was used recently and not fully cleaned up. Its over 10 minutes into my appointment time before the other woman is finished up and Gina begins to start things for me. In the previous timeframe I gathered that the other woman bleed at some point during her manicure, and Gina was not wearing gloves while doing her nail painting (or more) and then even soaked a paper towel with a bit of alcohol to put on where the woman was bleeding from (nail bed it appeared). When Gina was cleaning up and then getting out the things for my pedi, she never washed her hands and then started putting on new gloves one of which she also dropped on the floor first and she picked it up and put it on. I asked her to wash her hands and get new gloves and she adamantly refused several times, saying 'she is hygienic and the bleeding was earlier' and that she'll wear gloves for my appt. I should have left right there, end of story, but I was trying to do something nice for myself on an anniversary of a really major surgery that changed my life. Instead I ended up leaving with a terrible experience overall, thanks for destroying my day. Hopefully I do not end up with any foot fungus or worse due to her lack of hygiene. Then at that moment her next appointment (only 10-15 minutes into my appt, but should be 45-50 min after mine) stops by and says he wants to show up early (as early as possible), therefore effectively taking even more time away from my 1 hour appointment. She greets him and starts to say ok, to which I say what about my time, this is short changing me, and she says ok show up at his as booked appointment time (so still taking away from my time). I should point out in the past there have been a couple times I showed late and that time was taken away from my appointment, and rightly so as it was my fault. Instead in this instance she wants to take from my appointment, because others were late (or got longer treatments than allotted) or they want to show early and the guy was super rude about it, completely not even acknowledging my existence in this little room with only 2 people. Then after he leaves, she proceeds to give the most half-assed and even angry/cruel pedi. She's filing my toenails so fast and carelessly not saying a word, not looking or talking to me at all, and keeps hitting my skin all over scraping and even cutting me. She also barely trimmed my cuticles, but even during that time she poked me multiple times. She never cleaned under my nails either, nor did the full massage as usual. She spent less than 10 min doing the functional part of a pedi (trimming nails, filing nails, pushing back and trimming cuticles, and then scrubbing/removing dead skin on the bottom of my feet)... it should have been more than double that and all with kindness and care. She also short changed the massage, of which it felt half-assed too. Clearly she did not want me there, and her treatment of me was definitely hurtful. I have never been mean, have always been a good and gracious customer, and also always tipped well... maybe she was having a horrible day, but with such terrible and gross negligence in her treatment... I will never go back and advise others this could be in store for them too for no reason at all. I would not let her use the same nail polishes she used on the bleeding woman and was glad I brought my own. Still she dipped a brush in acetone to clean up some of the polish and then put it right back in the rack, not cleaned at all. Disgusting and unsanitary! Appointment finished 10 min before the next appointment's start time, which means I had a 40 min total appt out of a 1 hour appt, of which part was spent doing cleanup of the previous person. I used to have such good experiences here, indeed I was a 5 star reviewer too... but will never be back. read more

I haven't had a pedicure in almost a year and between a move to Boulder and a new job it was over due. Since I wanted a high quality, unrushed spa-style pedicure, I was having a hard time finding a place in town that felt right. Thankfully, Yelp steered me right to Gina's place and I made the appointment through the bookeo link on this page(easier than yelp's booking app). Gina's salon suite inside Phenix is so cozy and she greets you so warmly upon your arrival. The previous client came out raving and told me how pleased she was, too...Setting the bar for service very high :) I was here for the works, I so I choose the karatin sock pedicure....my feet literally look and feel LIKE BUTTAH. So worth the splurge! Gina also has great massage skills that just helped release the tension in my calves. She was also so easy to talk with, but she allowed me to also zone out during the more relaxing bits. I am hard pressed to think of a better pedicure service I have received elsewhere (Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis).
