This is my second time in this salon, and I've resolved to not come here again. The salon is clean, but the service is subpar. If anyone plans to come here, early morning and afternoons are empty during the week. Fill ins are $17, coffin or stiletto shapes are an extra $5, and French is an extra $11. My nail tech, Jenny, was on her phone the entire time. She rushed through my nails and when she smudged the glitter with a top coat, she appeared annoyed when I asked her to fix it. I brought my own French nude and topcoat because last time the nail polish chipped the next day. I believe this time the top coat was applied incorrectly because the salon's black polish is already chipping on four of my fingers. The lines are freehand and sloppy, which bothers me to no end. Overall, the color selection is small, and most of the bottles look very old and are separating. I also would not recommend getting eyebrows done here. For the amount I spent on mediocre nails, I'd expected a better outcome for my brows. Alas, she shuffled me into a room that looked unclean and swiftly slopped wax onto my face and ripped it off. No combing or shaping, scissor cutting, and minimal tweezing. I do a better job when I maintain them myself. I strongly felt the impression that I wasn't welcome, so I will find another salon for nail services. read more

Wow! I've never been to a salon that gave me a gel mani that lasted 3 weeks exact (Jan 17th - Feb 8). It could have lasted me longer if I didn't care about the large unpainted gap between the gel and my cuticle. Steven was attentive and was excited that I found out about the store through positive reviews. It's hard to find quality salons in the Bronx mainly because natives aren't used to writing about their experiences (though that's changing). So the fact that the store had more than 3 reviews equaling 5 stars meant something. Back to the excellent work: I swam and sat in a Jacuzzi the second weekend I got this and the gel was not phrased. I do a lot of dishwashing and work around the house and my hands get dry and hard... The gel was not phrased. Lastly my hair is mainly kept as an afro meaning to maintain it, nightly I massage my oils and my Shea butter. So my hands are drenched in oils and still... The gel was not phrased. No chips! This is what a gel should be but it's a shame, a lot of shops aren't skilled or equipped enough to carry out proper technique, so I shouldn't be amazed as I am here. Nonetheless. I'm glad I found out about Steven and his store. I haven't done anything else yet but just the selection of quality nail polish is unseen. I definitely have never seen that in Manhattan. I'd give this place 5 stars but I have to duck 1 point because the shop does not open on time. I drove 2 miles this morning only to arrive at a shop that was not open yet. The door sign said "Open a 9am -Saturday" it was 9:37 and they were just opening their doors to a toll of 4 people ahead of me. This place is dirty the place is never cleaned. Dirty floor / nails. Workers are rude always speaking in their language. Steven doesn't cover his mouth when he coughs - he coughs on you no manners. Sometimes the nail clippers and other tools used on your hands and feet are not being sterilized. I got a very bad infection and the salon acted as if I didn't get it from them. Only place I use. Nail technician took her time and did a beautiful job. This place is fairly priced for work. Only down fall is the extra charged for my natural oval nails. Since I wrap my nails w/ acrylic, I was charged for the extra fee of having "pointy, oval or coffin style" nail. I'm writing this review just as I'm leaving the establishment. I came here for a pedicure, $13 dollars isn't bad so I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt but that's exactly what I got, a $13 job. They weren't very polite or cordial, didn't ask what color I wanted or how I'd like them shaped, just weren't very friendly overall. The only plus is that the girl who did my toes was able to remove my ingrowns. Besides that, my feet were barely scrubbed and the pedi in its entirety lasted about 25 minutes. Another con is that who I'm assuming is the owner was extremely rude to me. Upon sitting down I asked how much the sandals were if I wanted to take them to go, they told me the price, I said alright. I did NOT say I was going to buy them but when I went to pay they charged me for them anyway. I'm not going to fret over the dollar but he was extremely rude with how he went about it. He told me I said I was buying them (which as I stated previously, I did not) so they already brought it out and tore the plastic, therefore I had to buy them because he can't use them again. Scolding clients with hand gestures is not a good move, nor is waving their change back at them. I considered returning to this place because the girl was able to take my ingrowns out but service is EVERYTHING. Maybe this is how they are on Sundays, or maybe not, but I'm not going to find out. Came here my trial of local nail salons route. Pros: Location (if you live nearby) Cons: -OUTDATED -no light in the bathroom hence why the door is not being fixed as it doesn't close at all!! -long long long wait -antique techniques: my gel color was soaked off in a metal bowl of acetone that was placed top of a portable stove top burner. I was asked to turn it on and off depending on the temperature of acetone. -fumes (guessing from the acetone being boiled all day long) -the acetone is re-used. My soaked off gel was filtered out from the acetone and placed back into the acetone bottle. -rude owner. If you looking for a quality mani/pedi--avoid this place. Doesn't seem sanitary nor customer service oriented. read more

When I went there I want to get a pedicure and acrylic. My pedicure was alright but my acrylic was terrible, my friend and I was treated terribly. They constantly kept skipping me and he had been disrespectful to my friend and I. When I accidentally put my hand up he was mad. I actually don't know it's because we are younger so he skipped me and my friend but I really thought that they deserve a one star. After two days both of our nails were in pain . I came in yesterday with nails that was done about a week ago at the nail salon in palisades mall. It was sloppy; too much acrylic and polish was applied which made my nails thick, roundish, and a bit lumpy. I left #1 Nail Salon with a job well done by Steve. He shaved off most of my acrylic, which took a total of 10 mins to do while the machine was on max speed. Steve is the best, but he might not be everybody's cup of tea. He's a no bullshit type of guy and will tell you how it is, which is what I like about him. And some people might find it as being rude but I love it. Great job Steve. I would've gave 5 stars because it was clean, had a great selection of nail polishes, and my nails came out great... However, it was a long wait. I came in around 6:30 pm and didn't leave till 9:10 pm, so that is the only downfall. But nevertheless I absolutely love my nails. read more

I started going to this salon last year since it is close to my job. Yesterday, i went home (40 Mins) to get my 5 year old and drove back to this salon to have mommy and daughter mani and pedi's. The lady that always does my nails was busy so the owner was going to do my nails and my daughter got my lady :-) My daughter was very happy. The owner kept telling me that my nails were going to look stupid with french design because they are really short. So i told him ok your the professional just make them white.. he said no a color.. then he said are you sure you want french over three times... finally he said ok i will do french.. He did and they came out to my liking. After my nails were done, i was getting my french pedi. My lady again was busy so i was going to the next available lady since it is late now. Before i went the owner suggested i pay for the services first and i agreed. Because i was paying Credit Card they charge a fee so we figured out how much it was for the service and for the tax and tip. I explained to him i wanted to give 6 dollars for my daughter's lady and 4 to him and 4 to the lady who was going to do my french pedi. So i paid and went to sit down and my lady was done so i was happy she told me to sit with her and she will do my french pedi. I then looked at the owner and said ok so now give her 10 and you 4 ok? I don't know what happened. He cursed me out and told me i don't talk to him like that and he's the owner and started talking in another language. My daughter just looked shocked and didn't know what happened, i didn't know what happened. The lady told me not to pay attention and i asked her what did i do wrong? Was he unhappy with the tip? Did he misunderstand me? What happened? Did i say something wrong? She just told me to ignore him. He kept on and i was so embarrassed but i didn't say anything because i didn't want to scare my daughter anymore then she was already. I was so upset that he reacted that way and he did it front of a little girl my daughter. As an owner you don't treat your customers like that. He threw my tip and said i don't want your f money. I am so shocked and disappointed that my special time with my daughter ended up like that. And, then the lady asked me to pay 3 dollars more for french mani because he didn't charge me and since he didn't want my tip to give her 3 dollars out of it to pay for the service. I been going to this nail salon for about 2 years now. And I swear I'll never go to another place again. I've been to like every salon in the Morris park and Tremont area and they all sucked and over charged me. I used to pay 50 bucks just for my nails and 20-30 on feet!! I know crazy ! Not only I would pay that much but my gel would last for for like a week and a half! So one day I just decided to try this place out and boy was I happy not only did the manicure lasted 3 weeks but Steven ( shops owner ) is literally a perfectionist!!! With #1 nails inc I pay***drum roll*** 42 bucks for the best gel manicure and pedicure!!!! If Steven isn't available, the other girls do just as good. He must have really trained his staff to be as good as him. I am very happy I found this gem in the Bronx. This place is clean, professional, they know what their doing, and listen to you! My nails last up to 3 weeks and they still look fine. The owners are very nice and are the best at doing the acrylic tips. The pedicures are equally done perfect. I visited #1 Nail Salon on August 8th, 2014 and I was abysmally disappointed at their services. I was really excited to try this salon because of the great reviews found here. I thought for sure I had found my match. I have not had very good experiences with nail salons since my lady at who gave me my favorite pedis stopped working. But anyway, I arrive here at around 6:30 p.m.... I did not leave until 9:30 p.m. I was literally the last person to leave. So, I'm waiting (and waiting) but I'm still brimming with anticipation for the services. I get to the pedi with some lady who was not one of the recommended people in these reviews because I was told everyone is good. The pedi is not all too bad except she leave my big toes looking really uneven when it comes to each other. I reasoned that they were my feet anyway, no big deal. I did however tell her to leave them all a little short and rounded natural-looking. She cut down on my big toes way too much and left all my toes square (which is part of the reason the big toes look stupid). Then I went on to the mani. She starts cutting away at my nails and leaves them looking like I'm a perpetual nail biter and have no nails and she did this weird thing where she filed away shorter on the top of my nail than on the bottom. My nails are basically slanted. I brought my own matte top coat and told her to use it at the end. She did. But she super packed each coat of the mani so it took forever to dry. So much so that both my thumb and pinky of my right hand messed up. The Matte coat did not dry and, again, it was packed on. I will not be returning! read more
