I've been in the Bronx for 3 years and still hadn't found a nail salon that I loved when a Yelp search led me to Lumi. I was warmly greeted by the owner Pricilla when I walked in. The place is nice and clean and after I found out they had recently moved into this location from across the street so this was a facelift. I've only done pedicures so far but each time they have done a great job. The massage chairs are cool if you like that during your visits. Everyone that comes in is greeted the same way by Pricilla and for me that's a big deal. I've been to other spots where when you walk in they either don't greet you so you're confused as to who to talk to or they just rush you to say what you need done. I noticed a lot of ppl coming in and speaking to her like they were old friends which says a lot about how they run business at Lumi. Lumi exceeded my expectations. I came here after my primary nail tech was booked solid. I just needed some place that was close to home, reasonably priced, and decent service. Well, I got all of that and more during my visit. I found Lumi via google. I called them up on a Thursday to make an appointment for that Saturday. The person (I'm assuming she's one of the owners) picked up and scheduled me for a regular manicure and pedicure; no problems. She was very personable and kind on the phone, so I was looking forward to this service. I arrived on time and was greeted by the same person from the phone. She even thanked me for coming and I was immediately serviced. My nail tech was very meticulous and did a superb job. Pricing was reasonable, I paid roughly $40 (no including tax/tip). There is an option to pay with cash or card. They also offer an incentive program for return guests; after 10 visits you are eligible for $10 off. All of the staff are very sweet and attentive. Everyone wore masks and there was ample hand sanitizer around. When I was done, the owner thanked me again, then gave me a gift for being a first time customer. Very sweet! I have returned again and service was consistent. At the time of my first service, I had gotten care at their older, much smaller shop. However, Lumi just moved to a bigger, modern space, right across the street. They have a large selection of nail colors including gel, powder, and regular polish. Went to Lumi nails last minute after reading reviews here. I called to see if they were taking walk in or only appointment. They are mostly a scheduled appointment type place, but Priscilla told me if I showed up within the half hour, she would take me, and as promised she did. I received a gel pedicure and it was one of the better pedicures I've ever received Carmita did an excellent job, removing old gel first with a really quick method and groomed and shaped my nails with such care. She is excellent. Priscilla is the gem of the establishment, warm , friendly , and funny. Covid protocols are in place, and they do their best to make sure everyone is comfortable. I called and was able to get appointment the same day. This came in clutch because we wanted to get pedicures as soon as possible. My boyfriend and I came to this establishment and received refreshing customer service. Please do not judge a book by its cover for if you do you'd miss the beauty within! While the establishment doesn't look like anything fancy or special to the eye the service is why I'd come back again. Since covid is still a concern I was worried about going to a new place that I have never seen or personally been suggested to me. As soon as we walked in, the owner greeted us and had us sign a waiver acknowledging the risk we are taking as well as confirming that we haven't traveled or knowingly exposed to anyone with covid. Hand sanitizer was available for us after we signed in. For our pedicures since we came together we were allowed to sit next to one another though there was still a transparent barrier between us. I noticed that there was something in the foot tub that either disinfected the water or served the purpose of ensuring that we wouldn't get an infection if we had a cut on our foot. The girls giving us our pedicures didn't engage us in conversation which neither of us minded. They didn't try to gentle suggest or push any upgrades or additional services on us either. (Though I clearly could have benefited from a callous pedicure.) Once my nails were done oil was applied so my nails wouldn't smudge. The owner explained that she doesn't use the typical driers because of covid so she offered to have the fan blow dry my nails. (Thank you because I appreciate you taking this into consideration.) All employees that were with customers had on masks and face shields. There were barriers between manicure booths to separate customers as well as barriers between the manicurist and customer. The gentleman at the cash register had in a mask as well. It was nice to see that the Asian owner speaks her native tongue is as well as English and Spanish. She was having full on convos with her employees and even stopped by to talk to my boyfriend and I. She gave us a lotion as a gift for being first time customers and walked me out. So I am updating this review: I have been coming to Lumi since November with no real issues however my last three gel manicures have peeled off within days of getting them done. They will fix them with no problem. However when I came to have my nail fixed today, the owner Priscilla tried to tell me that I was the problem and that I could find somewhere else to go if I did not like how my nails were being done. When in fact I never said any of that she was upset because a customer sitting next to me was also saying that she had experienced the same thing. I have spoken to other people who actually recommended Lumi to me as well and said they had similar experiences and if you look at some of the older reviews you will see some of the same complaints. Today was the first time Priscilla has been nasty and I am disappointed. She tried to make it seem as though I was speaking negatively of the girl who did my nails and that was not the case, each time she fixes my nails I still tip her as well. What Priscilla tried to do was say I needed to switch to dip powder which is significantly more expensive. I definitely will not be coming back here. Today I went to get a gel manicure for the first time after the lockdown and as soon as I walked into Lumi Nail salon I was welcomed by Priscilla, the owner, who is very friendly and caring. They're taking all the precautions to keep customers and staff safe during this COVID19 situation: temperature check, hand sanitizing and a signed waiver, everyone wears their masks, they have plastic curtains between the stations as well as Plexiglas protecting the manicurist and the customer. After I finished my manicure, Priscilla handed me a thank you gift (green tea hand cream)!! Wow, that's what I call exceptional customer service! The nails were fairly long and when the nail technician put the tips on, she kept complaining about how long they were, asking if I've ever even had long nails before,etc. Not only did the shape come out terrible, but the ombré could've been done better as well. I asked for the shape to be fixed a little and she attempted to but I saw it was hopeless. I had to go home and shape them MYSELF after paying over 60 dollars for something I strongly dislike. I like the salon. It is spacious and clean. Appointments are required specially on busy days (holidays & Saturdays). If you're running more than 10 mins late, the owner will call you to cancel your appointment. In terms of the nails, they do basic nails which is why I gave them 3 stars. I have tried different nail techs and have never been 100% happy, specifically with the way they shape the nails. My nails always end up looking lumpy and are never smooth. I have been searching for a clean place with skilled nail technicians for a while. This place was recommended by a coworker. My first visit there was great. The techs that worked on my hands and feet were great, the place was clean, the owner seemed nice, and I met a long time friend there getting her nails done too. More validation my search might be over. I even recommend Lumi Nails to 3 people. I got UV gel tips and after about 2.5 weeks the nails started lifting and one fell off. I went back to get it repaired but couldn't get the same tech, which was fine. This other tech was horrible. She applied the gel so thick and tried to reassure me that when she filed the thickness down everything will be fine. Well, it wasn't despite me continuously voicing my concerns about my nails. Each nail looked different, some went to the left, some went to the right. She tried to fix them but I had to leave. The owner reassured me, next time I come back she will "take care of me". 2.5 weeks later, the same nail falls off again. I make another appointment to soak them all off and just get a regular gel manicure. Something important came up and I had to reschedule the morning of my appointment. Well, who told me to do that. The owner got mad and told me that I must understand that cancellations are bad for her business, so don't make anymore appointment just walk in and I never have to worry about canceling again, then gave me a sing-song 'bye-bye' and hung up the phone. They were both friendly and gentle with my feet, and that was a relief as I'm usually tense throughout the entire process. I am very disappointed with my experience. I made an appointment for a gel manicure. As they won't take walk ins. I showed up for my appointment and waited 20 minutes to be seen. When I finally got in the chair instead of soaking my nails the correct way she used a machine and ripped up all my long nails. They are now very weak. She literally did my nails in 15 minutes. They only use one UV light for both hands and the light kept shutting off. I told the girl and she said it didn't matter. I am 4 days with my nails done and they are all broken and chipping. I am very upset with my experience as getting your nails done should be a relaxing moment where I felt they were just about making there money and getting you out fast. my friend and I went on Wednesday the 7th and today the 12th my nail started lifting and came off. I got a acrylic full send and was there for 3 ish hours.
