I'm surprised I haven't written a review for this place. I've been going here on and off for four years now. They are the best and most consistent nail salon I've found in Minneapolis. The places in uptown will charge you at least 50% more and make you schedule an appointment every time. This place is clean, the people are friendly, they do a great job on your nails, and the price is very reasonable. Love this place. Every time I go back I wonder why I ever tried to go anywhere else. Only downside is street parking. But, if you go during the week there is usually a nice street spot right outside Candyland. read more

I just had my nails done here while on a layover. Fill in/ gel polish. Heidi did a beautiful job! Also had a salt scrub pedicure, which I highly recommend. 1) I called at 10am and made an appointment for 4 people at 5pm - ample time to prep. When we arrived there were only 2 people working to do all of our nails... Would've been nice to know beforehand. 2) Kind of weird, scary location. You'd never know it was there if it weren't for the janky street sign out front that's clinging for dear life every time the wind blows. 3) The playlist. Yikes, almost brought me to tears. Mandy Moore, Shania Twain, Rascal Flatts. I left feeling like I just broke up with my middle school boyfriend. 4) I know nail salons don't have a reputation for stylish interior decor, but this just didn't make sense. One bottle of nail polish sitting in each glass cabinet. I don't even know how to describe it. Maybe they're just low on inventory right now... 5) The tip situation. Only cash tips, which is totally normal. All I had was a $20 so I asked for change, but when my nail technician brought back my change, she tried to only give me back $15 and said "what tip?" Which forced me to say, "Ummm can I have all of my money please?" I'll be the one to decide your tip woman! 6) A very weird Spanish fashion show was playing on the TV the whole time. This is irrelevant, but it did have an impact on our experience, so I thought I'd include it. BOTTOM LINE: My nails turned out great, but the experience was sub-par. I would not go back. read more

I got a good pedicure here, and the staff is friendly. Clean and reasonably priced. I didn't have the best experience at first, but ultimately I was happy with the final result. I came here with a friend when I was in the area on business. We wanted Mani/Pedis, so when my friend got there (a few minuted before me), she made walk-in appointments for the both of us and she let them know I would be there shortly. I arrive not even 5 minutes later, they sat me next to my friend in the pedicure chair..great! However, I then waited almost an hour for someone to get to me for my pedi. My friend had both her mani and pedi completed and dried before anyone even came to start my services. Since I had to wait so long, I did not have time for both my manicure and pedicure. No apology for the wait. Granted, we were walk in customers and did not call earlier to make appointments so i can understand waiting a bit. On the same token, they had multiple nail techs and not many people were there having services done while I was there, so I am not totally sure as to why my wait was so significant when it did not appear that the entire staff was busy. I am not a nail tech, nor do i play one on TV, so I could be missing something and misjudging, but at the time, I felt like one of the people sitting around could have been helping me. On the bright side, when my pedicure finally did start, the person doing it was awesome. Good massage, good job on the painting of my toes. Very friendly. If you have the time to wait, or don't mind a wait, they do a good job. If you are in a hurry, maybe call ahead to let them know, or try somewhere else. Worth coming to if you have an appointment, and I would come back to give another fair chance if I am ever in the area again. read more

This place is a solid 4 stars, above average experience. I needed a mani ASAP before a wedding later that evening, so I called in advance and was told I could walk in. Walked in I did, and within 5 mins I was attended to. Service was pleasant, my basic mani was fine, and pricing was reasonable (another Yelper posted a menu). I can't say my polish won't chip within a week but it did what I needed it to do. The salon is inside a depressing mall but having spent only a few hours in Minneapolis this seems like the norm on weekends from what I gathered. read more

Not a great service at all. Once you walk in you don't feel welcomed. Furthermore they want to up sell everything, sometimes they ask and sometimes they just do it and let you know when the work is done. I did acrylic nails and did 2 refills, and each time I wasn't feeling welcomed. Each of the times they ask me if I have been there before. I think after 3 times seeing me they should know. I personally have worked in cosmetic promotion and if you care about your customers you recognize at least their face. Unfortunately the three times I did my nails, spending a lot of money for it, after a couple of days always a nail just fall off. I am actually not really complaining about the price (even though it is expensive for what they do), but if they would have done it right and kindly it wouldn't matter. I am from out of town and desperately needed a pedicure. I was about to walk to 'Elegant Nails' when I saw a review for this place just a few blocks further. They were able to get me in at lunchtime for a pedicure and I am so glad I went! The foot massage in the normal pedicure is to die for. The attention to detail is great. I got a gel mani/pedi and love the color. I don't know the nail tech's name but she did a great job. 4 stars because some of the massage chairs weren't working, but they moved me to one that did work. The place looks run down and not very clean. I always wonder how can the employees sit around when there are no clients when there's so much dirty surfaces waiting to be cleaned? I had no time to find another salon so got regular mani and pedi which came to $45. My husband and I stopped in here after work so that I could get a pedicure. It was early in the evening, so we were the only customers. The employees were very accommodating and allowed my husband to use one of the massage chairs next to mine while I got my pedicure. The pedicure was okay, but I think they could have done a better job with smoothing out the bottoms of my feet (I wear sandals pretty much all summer, so they definitely need it!). When they moved me to the drying station, I wasn't sure how long I needed to dry, and by then business had picked up, so it seemed like they forgot about me. I guess I wasn't done drying quite yet and I ended up bumping one of my newly painted toes on the drying area as I went to get up. I've been to other places that use a quick dry coat that will help avoid this. All in all, this is a convenient place downtown to get your nails done and they do a nice job. read more

My third time trying this place out since it's so convenient to my work & apartment. It's very fast, and affordable. The women who work here argue with how I tell them I want my nails done though. The woman today told me my nails would look bad with what I asked! So rude. I told her I wanted to try sparkles as a top coat on my ring finger, since I just got engaged and wanted my ring finger to stand out more. She then proceeded to tell me I better like it because she wouldn't redo it. So I just skipped it, which bums me out. I tipped her over 20% the minute before and I really wish I wouldn't have. I've really tried to love Nail Cops... It's so conveniently located and the prices aren't that bad... But it seems like every time I give it another shot, I'm disappointed in some way or another. This time was the last straw and I will never be returning. Saturday I got a sea salt pedicure and acrylic full set by Hannah, who started off okay but totally took a turn for the worst as my services were being done. Between literally arguing with and trying to force me into getting a service I did not want to giving me attitude when I refused and basically saying "I told you so" when I had to return to get a nail fixed less than 30 minutes after I left [due to her telling me my nails were dry when they really weren't] I was just shocked. Not only did I receive subpar service but I had to deal with her negativity on top of it. Then, last night I happened to look down at my toes only to see that my pedicure is smudged / chipping... Literally one day after getting it done! I called the salon to briefly explain my frustration and the lady who answered, Jennifer, did tell me that if I came back she'd be glad to fix it for me, but at this point I have no desire to even step back on that place. I thought it was terrible too. First she cut all of my nails off to the skin without asking me if I wanted them short before I could say a thing! They were gone! What the? As the Ximin reviewer said, then she put nail polish remover in the jar to thin it in mine too. She also never used a base coat with RED polish. So my nails looked horrible when I left smudged and nicked, but I didn't have time to be a spaz. I had theater tickets. I had to ignore the nails. But worse yet, when I went to take the polish off my nails were red from no top coat, but she also dug into my nails when she did my cuticles. So I have deep ridges now I have to grow out. I can only wear clear polish or it is totally noticeable. What a terrible place. SAVE YOUR MONEY! Do your own nails. You can't do worse than this place. read more

Nail Cops is very conveniently located and that's unfortunately the best thing I can say about it. I have been to this salon three times and each time the cost was different. I was told I had a very bad job done on my nails which surprised me because it was their salon that did my gel nails. The women who work there constantly say snotty things in front of their clients because we cannot understand them. However, it does not take a rocket scientist to know when you are being talked about. My nails looked good the first time, but second and third time ended up looking like I could have done a better job myself. Also, I chose two colors and was ended up given the wrong color BOTH TIMES and they told me yes, this is the color you wanted, and acted like I was trying to pick up fight with them!!! They asked that their tip be given to them in cash and I was not able to put everything together on my card. Way too much drama for the convenience. read more

I've only gone to Nail Cops twice now but so far so good - for me. But I heard a big customer complaint while I was there that I will explain. I work in downtown Minneapolis so it's convenient for me to walk there during my lunch break. I did have both my pinky acrylic nails fall off after about 1 - 1.5 weeks before I went back in today, but I will say as a habitual nail biter (aka not used to having any nails) I am not exactly used to being careful with nails. I'm a work in progress. While I was in there though, a girl who sounded to come in frequently wasn't happy with her manicure from the week before. She had a light color on and it had faded within a week. She kept saying that she had asked for 2 coats of color and didn't get it, and I do believe she did ask for it, however, to get her nails fixed today, she was being charged the standard $25 for polish change. She even knew the nail stylist's names, proving to me, that she frequents the place. I was disappointed that they did not do anything customer service-wise to appease her. They just argued with her. She was not being that rude, but she let it be known she wasn't happy. And understandably, she just couldn't justify having to pay an additional $25 when she paid the week before for an unsatisfactory job. I'm happy with my manicure, but I saw the other girl's nails and I could understand her frustration. The manicurists even acknowledged remembering her from the week before. In my opinion, that's not a good way to retain your customers. Just for comparison's sake: I bought a brand new pair of prescription glasses on Nov 30. I went to work as usual on Dec 1 but left them on my office desk that night because I had a Christmas party to attend and didn't want to wear them. I came to work the next day and they were gone. I called VisionWorks and explained what happened and after calling my insurance for options (which there weren't any), they still offered to give me 40% off a new set since my insurance wouldn't pay for new glasses for another 6 months. That's customer service to me. I've been happy with Nail Cops, but I've not had an issue, but being there in person as this was going on, they should've offered their customer some sort of discount. Another thing that perplexed me, was when I went to pay, I handed her my US Bank debit card. She handed it back to me saying there was a US Bank ATM right outside their door. This was true, but I didn't understand why they wanted me to go out and get cash instead of just swiping my card. After thinking about it - I think they wanted cash tip/payment. $35 total and the least I can get out of the ATM for total/tip is $40. She was guaranteeing herself at least a $5 tip (which I would've given anyway). Bottom Line: I was impressed with this place until I saw them handle an unsatisfied customer. They even told her to shop around but that she wouldn't find prices better than theirs. I also don't like to be forced to get cash to pay a tip. I don't remember having to do that the last time I was there and I certainly gave a tip, as always. I think because I heard the whole scene with the unsatisfied customer, she asked if I wanted a 3rd coat of gel polish. She said, the standard is only 2 but they would be willing to give me 3. This place is terrible. I should have known when I saw their nail polish - and most of them had oil sitting on top. Which shows that the polish has been sitting there for a LONG time with no usage. Fast forward. I pick some colors and ask them to try it. The lady had trouble opening the bottles bc they seemed stuck. RED FLAG. I should have left by now but I was desperate for a manicure. Last straw was when she put thinner into the polish. 15 mins later when the nails should have been done after UV Light and fan. I got up to leave and 6 out of 10 of my nails where smudged. THE NAIL POLISH properties were RUINED FROM THE THINNER. When I confronted the lady she denied everything. But thank god I never left the store. I asked her to redo my nails - not apply an extra coat (yo the polish is ruined!!!!) You can tell she was annoyed and then she became extremely rude by yelling to her coworker in Vietnamese. I don't understand your language but I know you are bad mouthing me. Excuse me but for 25 dollars I am not going to leave with chipped nails. I hope these guys go out of business soon. I really don't recommend this salon at all. I went for a quick french polish change by seeing the address in yelp,as it is very near to my place, that was my first time there. The girl din't even applied a base coat. She directly had french polish on my fingers and for that they charged me 15$, which I can get a manicure as well for extra 5$ at my regular salon to which I go in Richfield. On the other-side their prices are too high, when compared to other salons. They want their tip in cash and they don't let us to keep on card. She saw cash in my wallet and was asking me directly to give cash which is very ridiculous. read more
