Wednesday 8/14/2024 I've had this spot on my list since last year and now I'm finally able to try it. The customer service was very good: the lady working was nice and friendly. I ended up getting a cinnamon roll, apple fritter, carrot cake, bread pudding, and raisin cinnamon roll for a total of $18 which is pretty good pricing if you ask me. - The cinnamon roll was MASSIVE and decent. My lil cousin had some of it and he really enjoyed it. - The Apple fritter was also MASSIVE and quite decent as well. - The Carrot cake was hyped up very much by the lady working as she proclaimed it as having the best cream cheese icing but I gotta strongly disagree with her on that. The carrot cake was a bit of disappointment as it was just average and the cream cheee wasn't anything special. - The Bread pudding was solid but nothing impressive as I've had better. - The Raisin cinnamon roll was underwhelming when I first had it: the bread was dense instead of soft but it did taste a bit better when warmed up tho. I love this place and have been back multiple times since I started getting pastries there. Today, I picked up an apple fritter, which was pretty burnt, but I am going to write that off as a fluke as I have had nothing but good experiences up to this point. There is often a line out the door, and for good reason: good pastries for cheap prices. It very much has the vibes of a mom and pop bake shop, which I quite enjoy and it feels very homey. Literally for 10 years, my family has been ordering from this place. Going physically into their store brings back lovely memories.. This is great to bring to any gathering big or small, even just for yourself because I do that too... I "grew up" at CHKD in the hospital as a child and Nas glazed donuts were my favorite to get/ eat whenever I got to pick something special and to this day there is not a better donut than the naas glazed !!! read more

A hidden gem along Tidewater Drive in Norfolk. Open as early as 6a and closing at 3p to allow you to get your sweet tooth just what it craves. You can call in your order the day prior to allow for grab and go the next day. Not just a modest mom and pop doughnut shop, they also do cakes for weddings, birthdays, divorce parties etc. Located in a small strip shared with other businesses, the parking is generous and I had no issue finding very close parking. The inside is a bit dated and they aren't hosting dine in customers at this writing. I found the options to be plentiful, fresh and larger in size than some chain doughnut shops. I'd bookmarked this place to check them out and I'm glad I did. The owner and I chatted and she is a sweetheart. I picked up doughnuts for my co-workers and they loved the selection and agreed that they needed to check out Naa's as well. I look forward to returning and trying other options. Naas is an old fashioned no-frills bakery that has been around for years (I remember my grade school bus riding past this bakery every day). They've recently had a resurgence of popularity around the local foodie community, and I must agree this bakery does live up to the hype. My favorites are the cinnamon sugar twist donut and the apple fritter, both are huge, light, airy, and absolutely delicious. As a heads up, you'll have to get there at the crack of dawn to try their elusive apple fritter, because they're always the first to sell out. Hell, the only reason I was able to get my hands on one was because a friend of mine who lives nearby was able to score a couple for my birthday. It should also be noted that Naa's makes an assortment of different pastries and cakes all of which look delicious; furthermore, their baked goods come in generous portions and their prices are fairly reasonable. I recently moved to Norfolk and one of good friends that helped me move told that I lived down the street from one of the most amazing bakeries. So me and my daughter went the next morning. The smell when you walk in will have your inner or outer fat kid skipping around and smiling. I walked from one end to the other not knowing what I wanted. The choices are amazing from your standard size doughnuts to the almost plate size you see in my picture to cannolis, turn overs cookies and scones. This place is one of those hole in the wall legit locally owned and operated old school bakeries. They only sell what they make so they don't make a ton every day. It's all fresh made each morning. This review will be against popular opinion of this place BUT I will say that this place is just OK from my experience. I've gotten donuts from here on two occasions now and can write a more detailed review. Donuts: I've tried their glazed, cinnamon sugar, apple fritter, and boston creme and I wasn't too impressed - the donuts here seemed on par with what you can get at your typical grocery store. The flavors were good but not great and the texture of the donuts was extra fluffy and a bit dense? I just don't get why the donuts here are that good and so many people rave about them. Customer service: I told one of the workers that this was my second time there but still not sure what to get and I asked for recommendations and they stated: "it depends on what you like" - it wasn't what she said, but how she said it. She didn't offer any recommendations or anything at all and didn't seem to care and wanted to get my transaction over as quickly as she can. This place is an old fashioned place with no extra bells and whistles. There isn't a public restroom and there isn't any pricing either. I did get five donuts for a little over 5 bucks which is a good deal. Ultimately, this place isn't for me and I'll just stick to my other donut options in the area. read more

So like everyone else, I am sheltering in place... however, the cravings have gotten the best of me and the curiosity/food envy piqued on this little bakery! I have read so much about this family owned shop and was determined to try some of their donuts and other offerings (apple fritters were high on my list). This bakery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 6am-3pm. I arrived at 5:58am. I was approximately the dozenth person in line. I was pleased to see all people were social distancing about 6 feet apart, and many people had masks on (myself included!). I also noticed they have two doors, for entry and exit, and you can push the door inward with your body weight - so you don't actually have to touch the door with your hands (bonus for my germophobe self!) The bakery only allows two people into the shop at a time, so we all patiently waited. It took about 30 minutes to bust into the shop. Admittedly, I felt a lot of pressure to choose quickly due to the growing line outside - much to my dismay, they had no apple fritters, so I hastily chose 3 glazed, 2 Boston cream (chocolate on top with creamy custard filling), apple filled with cinnamon sugar, lemon filled with powder coat, pineapple upside down mini-cake, a bowtie (large glazed pastry with a slightly creamy/glazy middle), glazed twist, and an eclair to top it off. My favorites were the pineapple upside down cake and the glazed twist. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach! And the donuts were bigger than my head! I hadn't had anything from Naa's in a while and needed cupcakes for a work supervisor, so I made the early morning trek over there. It was Tuesday morning, after they had been closed on Monday but they had some cupcakes in the case, so I got a dozen. I think these were left over from last week, they certainly were not fresh, but I was charged full price for them. They were pretty and the frosting was, as usual, excellent, but the cupcakes themselves were very dry. Of course we had to get donuts from Naa's before we moved and I was able to place an order for pickup on National Donut Day. I ordered a lot, including 2 fritters, 2 twists, and I believe 8-10 donuts to help fuel the move. Everything is pretty big and I would consider their donuts to be near colossal size. I recommend people try Naa's at least once as I've only had them when a co-worker brought them in. I will say it's a little hard to miss if not familiar with the area. I appreciated people social distancing inside and wearing masks. The staff was very friendly and allowed me to add more donuts to my order as I was picking up. Everyone was smiling and taking the time to speak a bit louder because you can't hear perfectly with masks on. I picked up around 9 and was in and out in 5 minutes. I believe I paid $21 for everything and wish I had brought cash for tips. There's more than just donuts in there and you can order cakes from them. I'm in LOVE with the little bakery. It doesn't look like much from the outside, I would easily have never given it a chance if I have not seen the reviews beforehand. There are these wonderful friendly ladies that work in this bakery that remind me of my grandmother. As soon as you walk in you are hit with the amazing smell of freshly baked donuts. My three year old inhaled and said "wow it smells so good!". We came at 7am on a Saturday because I had read that they sell out pretty quickly. I was really surprised to see how busy it was on a Saturday morning. I can tell this place has loyal regulars that know about this hidden gem.
