There is a myth about Mythos. The food is actually awful, despite the pretense of fine dining. The kitchen is lazy, uses institutional product where it can, and has little regard for texture or depth of flavor. Frozen product, fake gyro meat, tasteless gummy pasta, canned this and boxed that. Be wary of what they call Chilean Sea Bass- it's bound to be a cheap switcheroo. Save your money and try the other number of real Mediterranean restaurants in the area. read more

Four of us ate here last night for New Year's Eve and enjoyed the service. The food was hit or miss. We wondered if it was due to the busy crowd? The Grilled Oysters were fabulous and the loaf of very hot bread that came with it was some of the best bread I have had , except in Europe. The Wedge Salad didn't fare as well. The blue cheese dressing was so so and the wedge had a big brown spot in the middle of it under the dressing - unacceptable! the sea bass dish was again simply fabulous. It had lots of muscles and scallops and the sauce that surrounded it and every bite was just perfect. The lobster bisque, however, was not perfect - way too bland. The filet medallions with prawns was exactly as it has been in the past - one of my favorite dishes! We will come back because these guys have never disappointed us before last night. But hope they up their game the next time they have a night like New year's Eve! read more

Mythos is a tremendous find. I've been coming here for months, so I'm somewhat of a regular. George, the owner, has put together a fantastic oasis amid all the chain restaurants on Range Line Rd. The menu can be big and imposing, although I've yet to find an item that's been unsatisfactory. The staff is knowledgeable, trust them to point you in the right direction once you've given them an idea of your tastes. The wine list is fairly expansive, some bottles I'm truly surprised to see in a smaller town and I mean that surprise as a compliment. The specials are constantly being rotated so there's always something new to enjoy. My personal favorites are the Saganakia (flaming cheese) and their creamy tomato soup. Yes, it's overdecorated. Yes, our waiter did not seem to know how to pronounce "compote" among other things (it's not com-po-tay). Yes, you could very easily call me an out of touch, elitist so-and-so for criticizing. And you would be right. Because, simply put, the food is quite good. Especially for the area. The service was excellent as well. Having eaten here twice I was suitably impressed. So while it may not rate among the top spots I or you have enjoyed in other cities, that doesn't really matter. Mythos is in Joplin. And while it may seem to be suffering a little bit of an identity crisis (Greek? Swanky steakhouse?), it doesn't really matter. Mythos is in Joplin. My absolute favorite restaurant in Joplin! It's definitely not traditional Greek cuisine by any standard and quite frankly it's more of a steakhouse with a Greek twist. But it is located in the Midwest which isn't exactly crowded with people lining up to eat dolmades, spanakopita, or even hummus. I applaud the owner for knowing his market! I have been to Mythos many, many times in the past, most recently this weekend. I really enjoy this restaurant. It's one of my favorites in town. It has a really good menu where I can order something different every time I go. The restaurant itself is in a very pretty building, appropriate for a Greek restaurant, but not over the top like a Greek-themed restaurant. Inside, it's nicely decorated, not too dim (but not brightly-lit either), with the main dining room perhaps about 20 or so tables. On busier nights, they do open up their banquet room which is where my husband and I sat this weekend. Our service was impeccable. We had a server named Sarah, and she was very attentive and friendly. Very informative of the menu. As far as my previous visits, I don't ever recall having bad service. The food has always been pretty good as well. They have a mix of Greek, Italian, French and American food, so there should be something to please everyone. One of the best things to get for appetizers, if you want to get the full-on Greek experience, is the Tour of Mythos. You can get it for two or four people and comes with classic Greek bites: gyro meat, spanikopita, dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), tyropita (feta-stuffed pastry), taramosalata (caviar spread), skordalia (garlic spread), olive tapenade, pita bread - even includes shots of ouzo. So it's kind of fun and a little festive. However, It is pretty filling, so beware if you plan to eat a full 3-course meal. I always try to get different entrees when I go, although my absolute favorite is the Mediterranean Chicken with spinach, artichoke, tomato and feta aside a delicious orzo. This past weekend I got the Parmesan Tilapia, which isn't necessarily Greek, but I still liked it. The breading was on the edge of being too salty, but the fish was cooked perfect. It was paired with basil pesto gnocchi, which were wonderful. My husband's selection, on the other hand, was definitely too salty and he could not finish. He had the veal piccata, which he's ordered before and enjoyed. If it hadn't been for the salt issue, it would have been fine. But the stellar part of the whole evening? The server asked if he did not enjoy his meal, and he was honest and said it was too salty. She was very apologetic and said she'd let the chef know - and they promptly removed it from our bill AND offered us free dessert. Now that's service! (We did not take them up on the offer of free dessert, however - we were too full from that Tour of Mythos!) Desserts here are sometimes a hit and miss. They are always out of the Strawberry Shortcake, the Tiramisu is not a traditional version (although tasty, but for those expecting a classic, theirs is not). The Death by Chocolate is pretty good, and that's what my husband gets now because it never fails. They did have a cream cheese bread pudding on special this weekend, which sounded heavenly, but we passed. Kind of wished I would have gotten it now though. Sad face. We will without a doubt go back to Mythos. I'm not done making my way through the menu yet - the Chicken Madiera sounds fantastic, the Mussels Pernod app is on the list. Plus, I love a restaurant who takes pride in their customers. A great big OPA to them. read more

We drove through Joplin on our way to Branson and needed a good lunch stop. Mythos fit the bill. While the outside was a bit cheesy, the inside atmosphere was clean and quiet. Mythos isn't really a traditional Greek restaurant, but it's definitely worth visiting. Their menu is chock full of delicious vegetarian options. I stopped by for lunch with a friend on a Tuesday afternoon. I ordered the portabella burger, a tasty selection with guacamole, caramelized onion, lettuce, and tomato. It was very good. The side I chose was the house salad with the white wine vinaigrette. Also very tasty. The service was prompt and the place has a great atmosphere. read more

This restaurant is not only about high quality food, but about a high quality experience. To start, the ambiance is wonderful, and our server was kind, friendly, and provided great service. Probably the best service in all of Joplin. Speaking of Joplin, when you walk inside you basically forget that you're in SWMO at all. We started with the Tour of Mythos as an appetizer. I couldn't give that dish enough stars! Everything was incredibly delicious and seemed authentic (although I don't know much about Greece). The gyro meat was incredibly tender, the three different humus options were a delight, and the other items were equally as thrilling. I especially loved the creamy lemon sauce. If only we would've ordered the Tour as our complete meal... our entrees were nice (steak for me and seafood pasta for my husband) but we didn't thoroughly enjoy them. It's quite possible we just aren't acquainted with Mediterranean cuisine, but it left me slightly disappointed. If we would've ordered a Tour for 4 as our meal I would've given this a for sure 5 stars. Next time we plan to do that, and save room to try the baklava! read more

Any place that serves saganaki is a win in my book. The restaurant is a little nicer than I expected. We got the gyro, which was good. The saganaki wasn't as seared as I prefer but still tasted good. It's a nice place and when in Joplin I'd come back for sure. read more

So this little surprise sits off Rangeline, about 2 miles north of I44 on the west side of the road in Joplin. You can't miss the big blue beautiful neon. And you won't forget it either! Service is well managed and trained. This is a group that deserves big fat tips. The menu is diverse so if you're not sure what to order, there are standard restaurant eats. I had the crab crusted salmon and a wedge salad. There was a wonderful risotto and asparagus nibbles below this lovely chunk of flaky goodness... I boxed half of it for lunch tomorrow. I didn't get dessert but I should have just to lock in the 5 stars. They get 5 stars because they earned it. I will be going back. I recommend this place. They have a beautiful dining room and lobby. Loved the tank of fish. The place filled up pretty fast at dinner time - you might make a reservation. Prices are higher than expected for this area but the food is worth every penny. Visiting from out of town for the holidays. Made a reservation for 12 guests at 6:00 pm on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday. The entire party arrived at 6:00 on the dot. The host said, "We are preparing your table for you." Ok. Fine, for the the first few minutes but we were not seated until 6:45 with a reservation for 6:00!!! No apology. No explanation. Totally unacceptable. When we were finally seated, the waitress forgot my husband's drink order. Eventually, he just went to the bar to place his order. Again the waitress did not pick it up and the bartender had to serve it to the table. Dinner meal was simply ok. Beef tips were over done...ordered medium but cooked well done. Too salty and seasoned. The restaurant comped us the beef tips. So, that's a positive. Yet, we will not return when we are back in town. read more

What a pleasant surprise to have find this place in Joplin Missouri. This place is not your typical steak house. If you enjoy to dine with class and has a quiet and welcoming atmosphere, then I'd most definitely recommend this place. Had the tomato cream soup, which is a smooth soup that is made to perfection. You've got the sour creamy taste but it is not too overwhelming, and it is something that increase your appetite. Had the medium rare Ribeye steak. Mine gawd! This is some delicious steak. Unlike the typical steak you order at a steakhouse that tends to be dry and hard to chew. This steak is the best steak I've had in this area. According to my Bartender Dana, who is very helpful and has great knowledge about the food here said that the steak is cooked differently. Something about it is being cooked by placing on a plate on top of the boiling water, and then finish with the grille which gives the steak a nice pattern with charcoal flavor. Overall the service, food and drink are above and beyond my expectation. If you're a Carnivore who enjoys a hearty meal, then you do not want to miss this place. read more

This is a great place to get authentic Greek food. My wife and I ate supper here recently and enjoyed every bite. My wife had the Mousaka and I ate the beef vesuvius and we both chose the house Greek salad instead of soup. First came the rolls. They had a crispy crust on the outside with light fluffy, warm bread inside. What made the bread was the oil and basalmic vinegar that came with it. It was the tastiest vinegar I think I've ever eaten. The salads were next and were a traditional Greek style salad. The entrees were outstanding. I didn't try the eggplant but my wife loved it. Her plate also came with Gyro meat that is the best I've ever tasted. It was very tender and lots of flavor. My beef was cooked perfectly to Medium Rare and the caramelized onions and glaze topped it off perfectly. I gave the restaurant only three stars because of our server. I don't think ours was typical but it seemed like we got a server straight out of Applebees. When we sat down (for the very first time in this establishment) we both looked completely over the menus and decided what we wanted prior to our server arriving. When they arrived we were greeted with "Have you all decided what you want to drink? I'll be your server." We didn't fret much at the time but it was a pattern. We waited for the drinks to come as another server brought them to us and auctioned them off. "I've got a water... ". We ordered our meals when our drink order was taken. A couple across from us was seated approximately eight minutes after us and received their appetizers before we ever saw our salads. We actually asked about them and he went to check. Amazingly they came right out after our inquiry. While we were eating our server asked the lady next to us, who was drinking a martini, if she wanted another. She replied that she had a girls day out with her friends to which he replied, "Oh, so your pretty doused already". I felt embarrassed for her. We got and thoroughly enjoyed our dinners with the occasional "is there anything else I can get you". After taking our plates I was asked if I needed more tea which I agreed to. Again, I believe I was forgotten until the ticket was brought and I was asked if I wanted a to go glass. As we were given our check we were told that they hoped everything was good and that we liked it all. This too was a pattern as our server said this with every table. This wasn't asked shortly after getting your meal to ensure proper delivery and correct order. I guess it goes without saying with food this good. Although we had what I would call a substandard server given the upscale nature of the restaurant, I would highly recommend it to anyone. The only other issue that I had was the level of light in the restaurant. Mood lighting is one thing but this was just a bit on the dark side for me. All that being said, I can't wait to visit again for another amazing meal. read more
