Absolutely my favorite place to eat. Admittedly, I do not eat here as often as I'd like because it is definitely on the pricier side. That is not to say that their prices are too high. In fact, the prices are perfect for the quality of the food and the amount you receive. I simply mean that it costs more than what I would usually get to spend on a family of five with the budget I have. The food is out of this world and the staff is incredible. It is a very romantic atmosphere that is dimly lit. I have seen families in the restaurant before, but it seems more suited for a romantic night out between couples, or for a nice sit-down meal that complements a business meeting. The restaurant is pristine, relaxing, and very inviting. I felt like royalty sitting down with my husband and brother enjoying a meal for my birthday. we got there and we're told a 15 min wait. continued watching other people get sat, that had the same # of people in their party that did not have reservations either. well about 30 mins go by and still nothing. tons of tables were open and just not cleaned. we ended up having to tell the hostess that we're going to leave if its any longer (it had almost been an hour). she then FINALLY sends us to a table. the waiter then messed up our order. We ordered a soup and salad. it says it comes with a bowl and he got a cup. He asked the waitress about it, and she said "Oh wow you caught that. You're one of the few that noticed that." Basically meaning they try to rip you off And give u less than you order/pay for. i Also got the medallion pasta. There was NO sauce on the pasta. The steak was also supposed to be med rare and it came out medium well. They checked on our table maybe once? We never got refills on drinks, etc. I will NOT come back here. we used to love going here, now I don't know that we will ever be back. read more

Really good place for Greek food in Joplin, Mo. I have always enjoyed their selection! Really good salads and steaks as well as unique appetizers that you can't find anywhere else around the area. Mythos has amazing service with food that goes well with it. The first time I've ever gone here was for me and my hubby's first anniversary as a couple. I ordered the Surf and Turf and he got the Gyro. There was bread for munching while we wait and a choice of soup or salad that came with our meal. The second time we came we ordered chicken and pasta which was decent. I would say unless you're adventurous, go with their steaks! I actually had them cater to my wedding and I cannot speak any more highly of them. I didn't know anyone who did not enjoy the steak or the service they brought! read more

One of the best meals and service I have had inside the United States. First the food was to die for, every thing we ordered was a 10. I am a very picky eater and normally do not like eating out but this place is worth the 3 hour drive from OKC. Our waitress was Nicole who was perfect and very attentive even thought she thought she was having an off night she was still a 10 for us. At one point either the owner or the chef came to our table and shared a laugh with our group. It has been almost a week since I was there and I am still talking and thinking about the food and staff. Cant wait to go back. read more

Fantastic meal! Started with saganaki (flaming Greek cheese), it was great. My wife had a gyro platter and traditional Greek salad (with lettuce). Opa! Definitely the best Greek in SW Missouri, perhaps the entire state of Missouri. The menu is large, the food is excellent, and if you order the Saganaki, the flames will reach the ceiling. The best dining experience in Joplin, no doubt. A word of warning however, this is a true Greek dining experience, so the service is slow. Deliberately. Don't be upset if dinner takes longer than you expect, they're not off their game and your waiter/waitress didn't go on break, they're just giving your American palette a little time to recover and enjoy the a proper meal. It should also be mentioned that Mythos is a few dollars higher in price than most other Joplin restaurants. If you want cheap, try elsewhere, but you get what you pay for, and this place is definitely worth it. read more

Husband and I chose this place on a whim while driving through Joplin. It was much nicer inside than we expected; dim lights, formal table setting. We were impressed with the ambiance and would probably dress up a little bit for a later dinner just for funsies if we had the chance. (A note about the dim lights: it was a little TOO dim...am elderly gentleman at a nearby table had a mini-flashlight out to read the menu. Not necessary for us but it really was dim) As for the food: I ordered the Mediterranean chicken with tomato cream soup, husband ordered the gyro platter and Greek salad. The tomato soup was SO GOOD. I mean...it was tomato soup, so you wouldn't think it's something you can rave about. But I'm raving. It was thick and creamy and awesome. Also the presentation was beautiful but I didn't have my phone to snap a pic. Husbands Greek salad: his words were, "I've never thought to myself 'this salad is great!'...but this salad is great." The entrees were very good. The presentation of gyro platter is much prettier now than in pictures (they updated 3 weeks ago from what our waitress said) and the chicken was perfectly moist with delicious orzo and artichokes and beautiful presentation. My favorite full-service restaurant in the area. Only reason it wasn't five stars is because I've spent the last 11 years in NYC eating Greek and Mediterranian food at least once a month, and of course it's hard to compete with Manhattan. And therefore, this Greek restaurant doesn't have as many traditional Greek options as I'd prefer. The menu is great, but a significant majority of the menu items are not actually traditionally Greek. The Greek stuff (salad, tour) is great, just limited. It's also fairly expensive for the area (not as expensive as NYC, but not far from it, actually). But the service here is tremendous, both the drinks and the food are wonderful, and we'll be returning frequently. read more

Important fact, I'm from New Orleans. I walk into the door of Mythos and the interior is swankier than the exterior. The set up is very nice and the overall mood is good. but, the special of the day was a CAJUN FILET. I thought this was supposed to be euro Greek.... I was hoping for an emphasis on the Greek. Figuring they already left the Greek drama by a few thousand miles I felt it proper to ask if they had humus. NO HUMMUS... ok, I get it, hummus is not Greek cuisine, it is truly more of an eastern Mediterranean dish. I had the gyro plate: pros - decent flavor on the meet, pita had been taken out of the bag recently and was still "fresh". cons - served with peperoccini and some steak fries, fries were good but not what I expect when eating gyro and pita bread. The ceaser salad had an overall good flavor to it but the dressing was slightly heavy on the dijon. I basing my rating off my experience with restaurants and the 2 stars should not reflect this restaurants quality when compared to the surrounding area. This was the best food I've had since arriving in the Joplin/Carthage region. read more

My date and I went to Mythos on a Saturday night at 6:00. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. We were waited on almost immediately and our server was friendly, personable and helpful. We each had a glass of house reds (Cab and Pinot) and both were served at appropriate temps. We placed our food order a short time later and our salads arrived (house Greek and Caesar). Both salads were ample and delicious. For entree's I ordered the Mediterranean Chicken and she ordered the Mythos Pickilia. Our entree's were served at the appropriate time (i.e., not 2 minutes after our salads). Both dishes were hot and quite tasty and rich in flavors. I tasted the Pickilia and almost wish I'd ordered it instead. We had plenty of leftovers to take home. All in all a very nice experience. And despite what others have said about the decor, I didn't find it too cheesy and certainly not a distraction. On the night we were there, it was obviously prom night and quite a few tables were occupied by teens in their finest. Despite the obvious rush on the staff, service was excellent. read more

Despite the name, Greek cuisine is not the bulk of what Mythos serves; their menu is more a combo of Greek, European, and American. My SO ordered the sampler platter of small bites including dolmas, skordalia, and spanakopita, all of which was tasty and authentic. It was served with a small Caesar salad--quite good, but personally I would have preferred a lighter traditional Greek salad. I got the gyro, which is served with fries and tzatziki. The gyro meat was incredibly tasty and plentiful, the onions and tomato fresh; it was definitely among the best gyros I've ever had. Apart from the food, the service was fantastic. Our waiter seemed very knowledgeable about the menu and ready to answer any questions, but not pushy or in a rush for us to finish. All in all, solid and better than I would expect from a restaurant along a business loop in Joplin. We had a appetizer blitz. Spicy feta dip was tasty and the pita chips were fantastic. Stuffed grape leaves were decadent. Rich and melted in your mouth. Seafood saganaki was delicious... especially the mussels. Spanakopita was good... but a little small and lacking spice. On a recent visit to Joplin I went to dinner with my mother at Mythos and was very impressed with the service and food quality. First, our waitress, Sarah, was excellent! She knew the menu and wine list; and provided us with tips on how the food was prepared. Her flambé skills are above reproach. I ordered the Kasseri Saganaki appetizer which is flambéed right at your table. The cheese was delightful and a perfect start for our dinner. For an entrée I ordered the Mythos Pickilia - a wonderful combination dinner with several dishes that represents some of their Greek offerings. This plate included gyro meat, moussaka, and pasticcio. The food was flavorful and well presented on the plate; absolutely delicious! I will definitely return to Mythos next time I am in Joplin. read more

I've only been once but had a great time. It was for my 21st birthday, and they accommodated about 15 of my family and friends. It was a dressy but informal atmosphere, the server we had was excellent, the appetizers were great, the mixed drinks were made with precision, the ouzu was disgusting but fun, and I had a fillet mignon that could be cut with a sharp look. My memory of the food and the atmosphere is wholly positive. Also, I have a friend who works there now, so if you are a good tipper ask for John lol. read more

If you have ever had authentic greek food. This is as close as you will get in joplin. This is a charming restaurant with friendly, happy staff. And as a full service restaurant, they make you feel very welcome. The food is amazing, and very well presented. And the daily specials are always worth a try. I highly recommend either the lamb chops, or the Sea bass, that just melts in your mouth. If your looking for something more traditional, try the tour of Mythos. With a selection of pastries, and dips to try, as well as some great tasting dolmades. And a shot of ouzo to wash it all down with. If you looking for a wine pairing, they have a good selection, and the staff are very knowledgable on this. With a full bar you are sure to find something to wet your whistle. I ate dinner here last night and went in with zero expectations. I had heard this was a place to try and leading up to this for a week of business meeting (visiting from out of state), I wanted something lighter to end my trip. Greek salad was awesome to start off with. Wonderful dressing and the veggies were fresh in this. Very good! Then I had the Mediterranean Chicken as my main dish. Chicken was cooked perfect and the rice/pasta under it was very flavorful with the lemon sauce. I recommend this dish! This place doesn't get 5 stars because I need to try something more adventurous next time to see how the more technical dishes are. I will come back for sure! read more

Stopped here and placed a to-go order during a road trip to KC. Pretty disappointed. I ordered the gyro platter and it is the worst gyro I've ever had. lamb is the driest and grossly overcooked. The lamb should be juicy! Tender! This lamb is totally not fresh and wasn't worth the price I paid. They also got my order wrong - I substituted the fries for a side salad and they gave me a whole salad AND fries, and I was charged the price for a whole salad. Didn't realize it until after I had already left. Whomp. Saganakia was ok - nothing special. The bread was good, though. 2 stars for the bread and ambience. Wouldn't recommend this place. read more

Overrated. It took over an hour to Get our food. The Alfredo sauce had so much garlic cloves in it that it gagged me. Alfredo sauce traditionally does not have garlic in it. My sons medium rare steak had so much char on the out side it tasted burnt. The best part of the meal was the rolls. They were delicious! Not somewhere I will go to again. read more

Went for lunch and did the usual...some form of a sampler + moussaka. Mythos' sampler is one for the ages...The Tour of Mythos will give you everything you could think of, and it's all good. This restaurant exceeded my expectations! We had a party of 25 and booked a reservation on Saturday for that night and they accommodated us exceptionally well. The wait staff was attentive and on point, even with our somewhat rowdy bunch. When I first booked the restaurant I was a little worried because my boss and his friends are used to 5 Star accommodations wherever they go. This restaurant and it's staff DID NOT let us down. They brought their A game! The food was PHENOMENAL and the atmosphere, table settings and presentation were FABULOUS!! We had just about every appetizer they had to offer (which were all terrific, you can't go wrong with any of them) and every main dish got nothing but praise.
