I'll start this off with an admission. I have pretty much perfect vision. So I don't have a history with prescription glasses, eye doctors and the like. Sure I've had maybe four eye doctor visits in my life... very infrequent visits. My 20/20 has always been 20/20 (actually 20/15 in one eye) and I'm damn proud of that. As if I had anything to do with it. Well, I did drink a lot of carrot juice growing up. But I digress. I decided that it was time for me to utilize my often overlooked vision benefit on my insurance plan and take advantage of my annual checkup. Also I recently found out that I have some folks in my family with macular degeneration, which is something that can affect people later in life and wreck vision. So armed with these two things, I saw Dr. Kim, who is pretty awesome. He recommended that since I stare at computer screens all day (and the blue light is a direct contributor to macular degeneration) I might benefit from some glasses with a blue blocking coating on them. And maybe a slight scrip to sharpen things up. Sure. Why not? I have some FSA money to burn. Let's do this. What impresses me about this place is not just the "bedside manner" of the staff, but the high-tech equipment, the fantastic selection of niche-brad frames (Moscot, SALT, Mykita, Kilsgaard, Masunaga and more) as well as some more stylish major brands (Paul Frank, Maui Jim, Toms) and the quality of service. I was able to find quite a few frames I really liked, and the process was easy and straightforward. There was no up-selling on unnecessary add-ons. And I got my lenses within a week. Now I get to enjoy the transition as I get used to staring at a computer screen through slightly adjusted lenses. I'm not used to this. But if it can lessen eyestrain, protect my maculars (is that the right word?) and keep my eyes healthy with all the small electronic text I look at, then rad. I highly recommend Myoptic. Dear lord, this was an easy experience. Scheduling was a breeze, insurance processing was smooth, and pricing was simple to understand. I can see why they have such a great reputation. I came to Myoptic for a contact lens appointment, and was in-and-out within 30 minutes. The doctor was friendly, thorough, and probably a few other positive adjectives. She gave me a tester pair and we scheduled a second appointment in a week to make sure all was good. Second appointment was similar to the first. Easy breezy. I actually showed up early, and they got me in early, too! We made a slight adjustment to my prescription (hooray for that 2nd appointment!), and once again I was out the door. It looks like they have plenty of nice frames, but I wasn't in the market for glasses. If I were, I'd have no hesitation in visiting Myoptic to pick some out. This place is the best. read more

It's rare that you can say you love going to the eye doctor's office, or that it feels like you're seeing friends when you visit, but that is exactly how I feel at Myoptic Optometry! It's like going to the Cheers of eye doctors! From Lisa at the front desk who always greets me with the biggest smile and remembers my name, and that I meditate, to Dr. Allen Kim who is genuinely friendly and caring, and knows not only all about eyes, but also about the best, delicious food in the area, Myoptic Optometry is amazing. It feels like being welcomed by good friends who also happen to be helping you check your eyesight, choose a pair of glasses, or get fitted for contacts! :) They also accept my insurance, have great rates on contact lens exams (not covered by my insurance), a wide selection of frames, the latest and most comfortable equipment (no more air blowing into my eyes test!), and an eye pad that will make your eyes feel amazing!!! The staff are compassionate and extremely professional. They gave me many options for my lenses, and thoroughly explained the pros and cons of each. Dr. Hibbert was thorough and listened carefully to my concerns. The frames range for $150-$650, and there are many unique frames at those price points. Lovely and welcoming environment. Extended and weekend hours are a huge plus for me, and definitely worth a little extra cost for frames. They were quick and efficient, and I've never enjoyed a pair of glasses so much. The staff were incredibly accommodating to my indecisiveness, and helped direct me to options within my budget. This review is for the Myoptic Lab. The store front locations have always been amazing, but an employee at the lab was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I arrived on time but, while I was waiting, heard him loudly complain about me, stating that I had called three times and then didn't show up. In reality, I called once to see if they had any cancellations (which is a pretty reasonable question), and then arrived a couple minutes early for my scheduled appointment. His behavior would be rude regardless of circumstances, but it was especially frustrating because this was my second trip to the lab due to a defect in my first set of lenses. He emailed me after realizing I heard his comments, but his behavior was unacceptable. read more

Literally Jessica deserves 10,000 STARS, I truly have never had such great customer service in my entire life! In all seriousness, she is thorough, responsive, kind, and has gone out of her way to make sure my glasses were 100% up to my expectation. I had an issue with the lenses feeling off prescription so she sent them back and had both lenses completely remade to make sure any in-factory error was corrected. Also, I moved to California so she even offered to ship them back at no charge to me, as well as state that if anything still feels off to contact her ASAP so we can fix it together. The manager here is incredibly rude. Poorly run, I've been told lies on two separate occasions by her. One of those lies ending up costing me hundreds of dollars and contacts that I was never supposed to have, which resulted in further damage to my vision. In the other lie, I found out MONTHS later that they never contacted my insurance as she told me they did. It's pretty clear that she values making sales more than taking care of her clients. I've had a handful of problems with my glasses (self-inflicted; not a quality issue on their part) and they've jumped through hoops to help me out. Last year I went to a different eye doctor, but got my glasses at they Myoptic in North Portland. I enjoyed the experience overall (despite costly frames), so I figured I'd cut out a step and get my eye exam at the Myoptic nearest me here in Southeast. The good: I like the frame styles, even if they are expensive. The receptionists greeted me by name after only being in there a few times! Very friendly and helpful. The bad: Everything else. Where do I begin? The speed of the exam seemed too good to be true. Didn't really seem to test my near vision, which seemed strange since I'm far sighted. It took two weeks to get my glasses, which confirmed my suspicions; the prescription was terrible. But it takes time to adjust to a new prescription (I've had seemingly terrible prescriptions turn out to be great after an adjustment period). I've also gotten incorrect prescriptions once before elsewhere, so I realize it does happen. But I was getting headaches, and my work performance got so bad that my boss even called me out on it, and I literally almost walked in front of a car one day because I just didn't see it. To make things worse, since I had them replace the lenses in my old glasses, I couldn't even switch back to a good pair. Two weeks later, when things weren't improving, I got a re-exam and a new prescription. I was told that it would take 2-3 weeks to get the new glasses because they were moving their lab to the Selwood location. So I waited patiently without hearing anything back. Exactly 3 weeks later, I called them to ask what was up. "Uhhhh, I will need to call you back" was the response. I was called back the next day to be told that they had lost my order and that they'd rush process the glasses, but it would still take yet another week. For my trouble, they said they'd give me a $50 credit. For those not doing the math, I'm already at 5 weeks with glasses that are making my day-to-day a living hell and told it'll be another on top of that, but great, thanks, $50 I guess. Woo. A week later I finally get glasses that are... fine. I'm still not happy with them. I don't think they're accurate but they're close enough that I'm not going through another 2-week adjustment period for glasses that could be better or could be worse. When my yearly vision benefits kick back in I'm going somewhere else to put this whole ugly chapter behind me. read more

I came in for an annual eye exam per recommendation of my mom. Best medical examination experience of my life. They offer drinks upon entrance; reception is very friendly. Their examination rooms have state of the art, modern technologies, thus making the appointment as noninvasive and comfortable as possible. While I haven't seen too many eye exam offices, this office was more up to date than any other one I've seen. Dr. Kim was great, too. Very polite, friendly, and engaging, he explained every step of the check up and answered questions well. Would definitely come back and would recommend for everyone else. read more

I will never give them one cent of my business again. I have purchased glasses here several times, and I know that everyone is struggling with the pandemic, but this business has gone out of their way to make it hard to shop for frames. They insist on scheduling store visits, which is fine, but they more often than not do not answer the phone. You book an appointment with your spouse (or anyone) so they can see your options and give feedback and then you arrive only to be told that the store didn't note you'd have someone with you and they can't come in. I take the risk seriously. We are all wearing masks. Not touching things. It's a bit over the top. They should assume all booked shoppers with have a guest to provide feedback since most of us cannot see clearly when trying on glasses that don't have our prescriptions in them. read more

I had such a great experience at Myoptic (Laurelhurst) last year that I am back this year for my annual eye appointment. Turns out my prescription changed a lot, so I needed another pair of glasses. To be frank, my tired old eyes could no longer read and do computer work with my -6.00 prescription. But I was in denial. Nobody wants to find out she needs the dreaded BIFOCALS, or progressives, or whatever they're called. Yuck. Or so I thought. Immensely grateful for the help, support and comedic relief Myoptic eyewear specialist Lisa gave me. She answered all my questions, gave me her candid opinion and made the whole process so much less painful than I thought it was going to be. Lisa helped me find amazingly fun frames, and she figured out all the insurance issues. She did not pressure me to spend money on stuff I didn't need; but rather she assessed my style, needs and budget and got me the lenses that work best for me. Average experience for a contact eye exam, but frustrating overall. I wore my current contacts to the eye exam and the doctor or assistant examined them in my eyes. When the doctor suggested I try a type of contact that I had used years ago, she told me I could call in the future to finalize the prescription. I quickly remembered why I had switched away from that brand, but when I called back to say that I wanted to stick with the brand I had come in with, I was told I would have to schedule another eye exam and come back in. I explained that that's difficult for me, but the doctor stood firm that I would need to come back in to get the brand of contacts I have been using for the past few years that the doctor saw in my eyes. I'm not looking for a routine contact renewal to become the focal point of my week. I won't be going back. read more

This is the first time I have ever had a "fun" experience in an optometry clinic! The receptionists were so sweet, accommodating, and very helpful. Dr. Hibbert always had a smile and listened with so much patience and care while I shared any issues I've noticed in my vision. She took those concerns seriously and never made me feel silly about it. Even though I have 20/20 vision, she worked extra hard and took more time to do further testing and made sure she did all she could do to help me out. She ended up finding the perfect prescription for me, and Tristan did such a good job helping me find the right frames for my face and personality- he made it fun too! I just picked up my frames last weekend, and every time I put them on for work, my eyes feel so relieved. And my frames are so cool! Summy, the owner, happened to be there to help me make sure my frames fit right. She was so welcoming, kind, personable and showed she really cared about the service she was providing. I was introduced to Myoptic Optometry through Dress for Success in the early part of 2016 and I was thoroughly impressed by the service received the care given during the exam and after to explain the results (I saw Dr. Allen). The choice of frames are very hip AND the opinion I was given when I was weighing the options between two frames was spot on. I ended up choosing the purple ones...and yes...I look hot in them! Btw, I was complimented on my then new glasses as I was leaving the shop on the corner of Burnside and 28th on my way to Whole Foods...then again in Whole Foods (two totally different people). This place has far surpassed any eye exam I have ever received. Not only were they very nice and open to my relentless questions, but they also worked with me to try to get me in the right contacts (something I have struggled with for years). Additionally, the woman who helped me pick out my glasses must have spent over an hour with me going through each style that I may or may not like (probably like 50-60 pairs of glasses... believe me, I am VERY picky). In the end, she helped me pick out a style that was absolutely perfect for me. It was something a little bit out of my comfort zone that I probably wouldn't have normally chosen but it was absolutely what I needed. I have gotten so many compliments on these glasses since then. Once all was said and done, and she sat me down to work through my insurance stuff, I was also offered an IPA! How delightfully Portland! This place is top notch! And the icing on the cake? They sent me a handwritten thank you card about a week after I picked up my wonderful, shinny new glasses.
