I have been a patient and customer at this location for years. Before this winter, I would have given then 3-4 stars. However, it is always the crisis that shows the true character of a person or business, and this was true for me. I awoke with changes in vision that were concerning enough that I called them to ask if my upcoming medical eye exam should be moved forward or if I ought to be concerned. I was asked to come in for an immediate exam in 2 hours. This is the busy time of year for Foster vision, with everyone trying to use their insurance before the year runs out, but they got me in and tested my eyes in ways I had never experienced before. They fit me in, amongst all the hustle and bustle, because it was an emergency. And, when they were concerned about the results, they called an eye surgeon for me and I had an appointment there on Tuesday. In other words, they took a medical concern seriously, made space for me in a day crowded with others, advocated for me with another provider, and generally made sure I was okay. And, in the end, that is what I want from Foster Vision. When it really counted, 5 stars. read more

I like Foster Vision. They allowed me to stay after their closing hours to make sure I got what I wanted. The first eye exam went well during Covid with thoughtful protocols and communication. The second exam went smooth too. You clearly get to see and sign off on any extra services as accepted or denied. When it came to giving me an insurance quote for my prescription sunglasses they double checked to be most accurate. I wish there was more parking and more space in their interior design, but they are working with what they have efficiently. read more

I want to share my experience with this business so you can make an informed choice if you're considering going here. I went in for an annual exam and contacts. I have been wearing contacts for fifteen years and have been to many optometrists over the years with no issue. Usually I go in for an exam, and order some contacts. That's it. Here's what happened with Foster Vision: -At my first appointment, the doctor was moving a mile a minute. It was clear I was her last appointment of the day and she had somewhere to be, the exam only lasted a few minutes. She tells me a bunch of weird information about my eyes that has never been mentioned in years of annual visits to various eye doctors. I keep telling her my left eye is too blurry, her solution is to make it blurrier and blurrier. Even though the contacts she gave me felt awful, she tells me to give them a chance. I agree because it was clear she wanted the appointment to end and I was very uncomfortable -I tried to give the contacts I left with a chance, but within a few hours I had a horrible headache and my eyes were straining. I scheduled another appointment to adjust the prescription because I literally couldn't wear the contacts they gave me -I go in for another visit with the same doctor, she still can't figure out my prescription. I tell her again that my left eye is too blurry, it seems like a simple solution that we would just make the left eye a little stronger. For some reason, she refuses to do that and just can't figure out my prescription. Once again, I leave with contacts that aren't right -At this point I decide to cut my losses. I tell them I'm just going to go somewhere else and they beg me to give them one more chance and tell me they will have a doctor with more experience give me another exam. A third exam seems insane, but I just want to be able to see so I agree -At the third appointment, I bring in records from my last annual eye exam. No doctor has ever needed records to figure out my prescription before, but at this point I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get it right. The second doctor figures it out! I was thrilled. The contact lens order was placed -The order arrives and the contacts are completely wrong -I call the clinic to tell them they have given me the wrong contacts, they confirmed the order matches what the doctor wrote down, so the doctor wrote it down wrong. I speak with the manager who blames everything on her untrained staff and says she will give me trial contacts to see if I can figure out what the right combination is, since at this point I'm just guessing what my own prescription is -I try every combination of contacts they gave me, nothing is right. I'm not an eye doctor, I don't know how to determine my own prescription. I email them to tell them the prescription is still not right. They decline to send me any more trial contacts and instead promise to send me a refund as soon as they receive the packs of contacts back. I mail them out and track them to make sure they arrive -Ten days after the contacts arrive at the clinic, I still don't have a refund check. I email the clinic, they're vague and try to push me off. A few days later the owner tells me they made a typo and the check was sent to the wrong address. She blames her staff. At this point I have been dealing with them for THREE MONTHS over this when I was just supposed to go in one time for a routine visit. The owner apologizes and promises to resend the check in the mail to the correct address. -Even though I live less than a mile away from the clinic, it takes another ten days for the check to arrive I went in for my first appointment with Foster Vision on 3/9/22. It took until 6/1/22 for this mess to get sorted out. For a basic annual eye exam and contacts. As bad as this all seems (and is it!), please understand that this is only a fraction of the trouble I have had with this business. The rest wouldn't fit within the Yelp review character limit. Just know there are many other eye doctors out there. read more

If you are a patient at Foster Vision and they are insisting that you come in twice a year for a Glaucoma test, go to another vision specialist and have the tests done. Their equipment is outdated and I do not have any indication of Glaucoma from another vision specialist. read more

This place is an absolute joke. They're horribly unprofessional and will rip you off. I'm surprised they don't require you to sign over your firstborn before they let you leave. I was there the other day and the woman who checked me out was shouting at various employees about how they overwatered her orchid. Then, when she told me how much my contacts would cost--$780 for a pack of 90-I about blew my top. I told her no, I would get them elsewhere, and she started shouting at me about how I had to get them there. $800 for a YEAR'S worth would still be steep, but nearly $800 for three month's worth of contacts is absurd. I'm absolutely kicking myself for paying it, but the woman was so aggressive that I handed over my credit card just to get out of there. It sounds like this is one of their sales tactics, as numerous other reviews on here mention similar behavior during their visits. (At least I feel a little better knowing I'm not alone in being treated so badly here.) All in all, my visit ended up costing $1,050 just to get replacement contacts for three months. My prescription hadn't changed since the last time I had my eyes checked, and all they did was a quick vision test, which apparently costs $250. Horrible, horrible experience. Avoid this place like the plague. I'll be reporting them to the BBB (not that that'll do anything, but might make my feel slightly better). read more

Very strict COVID practices- I loved it! Yo give your insurance details over the phone so you fill out minimal paperwork when arriving. You check in your your car via text, too. The optometrist was efficient, friendly and likable. The service was quick and they gave me a paper receipt of my prescription so I could shop frame prices on my own time, instead of spending more time in their lobby to find frames. I had a good experience getting my glasses and eye exam done with dr. Caroline Tong. I felt a little rushed getting my frames but I'm still overall happy with what I picked. Unfortunately, I recommended this place for my mom and she had to come in for a follow up visit. We weren't aware they expect payment for the medical exam right away. I thought we would get a bill later. My mother stated their staff called her several times after we left the visit demanding payment for her appointment. This wasn't disclosed to us prior to leaving or prior to scheduling the visit. Luckily, we had the funds to pay but my concern is for other patients who do not have money right away to pay for their bill right away. I'm not sure if their manager or owner reads these reviews but I recommend having a clear policy posted for patients and future customers to see what your payment expectations are. Terrible customer service, they never are on time for appointments, they will check you in, preform part of the service and then move you back to the lobby to wait and then be placed in another room to meet with the doctor, then back to the lobby to wait. Just awful service, feels more like a factor than a customer service focused establishment. Not to mention it takes weeks to obtain trials, staff is untrained (and seems to be a rotating door, I have yet to see the same person twice, including the doctor) and will provide you with incorrect information, they don't know how to use the technology they force their customers to use, they don't know how to answer the phone so you will get hung up when you call, their reminder system is a nuisance that is an all-or-nothing system.... The list goes on and on..... Don't waste your time, take your business elsewhere. read more

I just had a very positive experience at Foster Vision. I had a hiccup with my first appointment and decided to contact the owner directly first instead of going on-line to voice my concern. Something I wish everyone would do, give the owner a chance to make an issue right. I'm grateful I did, because Dr. Kwon was very receptive and responsive to my issue. I'm saddened that my son's insurance only allows a few vision providers and this is one of them. The optometrist strongly cautioned that my son needed consistency of vision exams and to modify his prescription to help with some poor vision. After making the appointment months in advance i had a different optometrist, with no background on my son. She said she had good notes but was clearly unprepared at the start of our appointment. This was a waste of time. On one prior visit they told me which glasses were approved and then after selecting our pair, I was told that they showed us the wrong sets of glasses and my son had to go through this all again. read more

I really tried to like this place but in the end I regret ever setting foot in their crowded, noisy and very busy office. I don't have insurance and I was looking for my first pair of prescription glasses. It took them three tries to get my prescription right, and even then I feel it was barely acceptable. The spring hinge broke on one of the arms and it fell off in the first year. They reluctantly ordered another and put it on for me. six months later the other arm did the same thing but this time they said I only get the first one free and it would cost $55 to order another arm, which is almost half the cost of what I paid for the frames to begin with! I paid extra for free replacement lenses due to scratching but when I asked to get them replaced they were very reluctant and made me feel like I was taking advantage. My experience with Foster Vision was stressful and time consuming. They were very friendly at first but once they had my money they seemed condescending and impatient. I passed on the $55 arm. I'd rather pay someone else who I feel good about doing business with. I'm overdue for my next exam. I'll be trying someone else. Probably Costco. read more

This was the worst service that I have experienced. The receptionist was being very rude from the beginning (The lady with the glasses). I remember her glaring at me rudely where I had been sitting. I plan on taking all of my family members elsewhere. I don't think that any person should experience this kind of treatment, especially from the receptionist. My son had told me many times that he had been treated very rudely by the same person. At first I did not believe him, but yesterday I had experienced it myself. My first visit to Foster Vision was in July of '16. Had my entire vision tests done and decided to go with a wireless pair of glasses. After what's been 6+ months and the frames breaking now for the third time, I have to say that the team at Foster Vision have gone above and beyond to take care of me and make it as painless as possible in repairing my frames. This most recent experience, Mykayla, found a way for me to get away from these fragile frames and put me in something longer lasting. My thanks to the Foster team and for going above and beyond! I will continue to bring my service and recommendations to your store. The experience continues... It's been about a year since I last needed any eye health/help and at this point in my life money is a little tighter than it has been in the past. I mention this because there tends to be a "Us vs. Them" mentality when we, as consumers, go into a businesses these days. We're continually looking out for the best deal and just hoping that customer service comes along with it. Often enough, it's about the dollar.... I chose this clinic because it was advertised as a specialist in low-vision prescriptions by my insurance network. The staff obviously did things by algorithms and did not understand the HIPAA documents well enough to explain why the permissions were overly broad, and sought to refuse me care unless I signed the documents as presented. While the optometrist was kind, my prescription was heavily skewed towards distance vision, despite my repeated insistence I did not and have not ever driven a car nor played a sport, and spent most of my time reading. Now it is a misery to read using my glasses, and impossible using my contacts, which has rendered my contacts prescription pointless. I can't even read something at arm's length. I cannot emphasize how thoughtlessly cruel and inconsiderate I find this situation. To add insult to injury, they would not give me my prescription, but insisted I had to install an android or iPhone application in order to view my prescription. I did not have an android or iOS phone, and I asked them to mail me the prescription. It took nearly two weeks to receive the prescription by mail from a clinic a little over a mile away from my house. These people would have been more kind if they had simply blinded me. As it is, I will never avail of their services again. read more

I don't leave reviews often, but I can't say enough good about this place. Ellie was amazing and efficiently managed my visit cleaning everything and explaining everything as we went. Dr. Hailey sp* was wonderful and thorough. I left the office able to see in my new trial contacts and my Versace sunnies will be ready in around 2 weeks. Never had a nice pair of progressive lenses let alone sunglasses. Ellie worked with me on getting my bill squared away and went through all the options to make my purchase cost effective through my insurance. I went to a national chain with low prices and then came back to Foster Vision. Dr. Kwon got me fitted with the latest in bi-focal contacts. It came to a point in my life where I needed to decide on bifocals or go with progressive lenses. Dr. Kwon took her time, thoroughly explaining to me which option would best fit me and my lifestyle. Great for vision- Poor for elderly, sales tactics and confidentiality This place left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The sales tactics on older individuals is borderline fraudulent. Keep elderly people away from this place. More money is due each time you walk in and aggressive sales tactics have to be fended off with such awareness that elderly customers or those unfamiliar with the lingo are left confused. They used an emergency contact to collect a 20.00 bill after customer paid hundreds more than was originally quoted. Somehow all of the other eye glass establishments I've been to are able to give firm quotes on final cost, yet this business is somehow unable to figure out insurance? First year in business, sure. 2 year patient of Foster Vision checking here. I've been in a few times now for exams and new glasses/contacts and I have always had a memorably awesome experience each time. I have VSP insurance and they are preferred provider, so I always recommend this office to my coworkers, as well as any friends who have VSP coverage. The staff are all extremely kind and patient and I am very satisfied with my care. They go above and beyond my expectations to help me and others during my visits. They also have a great selection of frames - both designer and standard brands. The first time I visited, I was prescribed some eye drops for bad dry and and ended up having an issue with the cost pharmacy on Saturday after they had closed. The staff made sure to call me back on Monday and get me a cheaper alternative and let me know about an app to find cheaper prescription costs. Super helpful! Dr. Kwon overall has outstanding and professional business here and I am happy to have it available right here in our Lents neighborhood. read more

I had an exam at Foster vision, but I purchased my glasses somewhere else. I ended up having an issue with my prescription, but when I emailed the Foster vision team I was delighted by the quality of customer service. Someone went out of their way to quickly resolve the issue. I did have to wait quite a while to be seen for my scheduled appointment, and the waiting area isn't very accommodating. Despite these shortcomings I am impressed by the integrity of the staff members and would probably go back again. read more

They are on top of their game! I had no idea how much I've been suffering with the brand of contacts I used to wear until this gal started asking me about my experience with them... an eye doctor that actually cares! Who knew?! She switched my brand and holy crap... I can actually see and they are so comfortable. I was talked into getting my first pair of prescription sunglasses - I should have them in a week or two, so I'll try to remember to update this review once they're ready. The only reason I'm not rating with the full 5 stars is that they wouldn't give me the measurement between my pupils - I get why they wouldn't want to (online purchases of glasses), but, ya know, they are my eyeballs and I should be allowed to have all of my information. Overall, great place with a super friendly staff! -------------------------- EDIT I am now giving them the full 5 stars... the sunglasses are perfection and they ended up giving me the pupil distance measurement after all.
